The Artsgarden is special to me because my daughter was married in the Garden seven years ago. This week, my granddaughter was part of a choir concert held in the Garden. The glass dome is beautiful, with the city bustling outside. Winter is my favorite time to be in the Garden. The Garden, built in 1995, connects Circle Center Mall with the Conrad and parking garage. Circle Center is currently undergoing renovations, so foot traffic is low through the Garden. The Garden spans over the famous Washington Street in the heart of downtown Indy. A historical plaque describing Washington Street is located on the east side inside the dome. A sculpture hang from the roof, a small mural is on one side and plants line the central atrium. A few benches and tables are scattered for visitors to sit and enjoy the tranquility of the space. The Garden is managed by the IndyArts Council. The Council sponsors art, concerts and also rents out the Garden for events. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. City parking is available in nearby garages, although the adjacent garage was closed during my visit this week. I found free parking in the Circle. read more

I hadn't been here in some years and was immediately reminded why I enjoyed the space so much. The acoustics were amazing, the views were awesome and I was in creative happy space. We we there to support a dear friend doing a creative art installation ans the space still has charm and character. I always enjoy coming and will definitely have to get back more often. I needed a camera but I pulled out my phone and rook some really nice shots. If you are looking for a space to maybe have a concert or display art or something of that nature. The Indianapolis Artsgarden celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2020, though interestingly enough it wasn't technically done until 2012 when a final connector allowed for tourists to access the Artsgarden from the PNC Center, Conrad Hotel, and Circle Centre. Did you know that it took 32,000 square feet of glass to make the Artsgarden? I don't think people realize just how immense it is because the space primarily used for performance is really only a modest portion of the entire facility. If you look carefully inside the crook of one of the stairwells, you'll find a 2" Buddha-like face. It's such a tiny piece of public art that even Yelper Ken N. hasn't found it yet. :) The presence of it baffled the Arts Council for years until local artist Dominic Sansone acknowledged placing it as part his an exhibit he did called "Hidden Monuments" placing smaller art around downtown Indy. Fun facts: In the past 13 years, the Artsgarden has hosted around 300 weddings. Former Pacer Rik Smits symbolically signed the first steel beam before it was placed - it happened to be exactly as tall as Smits (7'4"). The Artsgarden has a maximum capacity of 600 (standing room only) and has hosted acts like American Aquarium, Josh Kaufman, Penn & Teller, Chris Isaak, Cirque du Soleil, and the Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra. The Artsgarden is owned and operated by Arts Council of Indianapolis. It's 7-stories tall and hosts more than 250 free and public events annually. It also has monthly visual arts exhibits and can be rented for private events, weddings, receptions, and non-profit events. The Artsgarden also serves as what they call a "cultural concierge." They have a desk that is staffed during the hours the mall is open to share information about local arts. The Artsgarden is wheelchair friendly with ramps into it. The performance space is fairly easy to adapt. The Artsgarden does not have public restrooms, though the mall itself does have them. I work at the Indiana Government Center and the Artsgarden can even be reached from the government center without having to go outside. On particularly stressful days, I can often go over and enjoy music inside the Artsgarden on my lunch break. I also periodically have friends who perform in the space during lunchtime concerts. The structure itself is quite beautiful. In terms of performing in it or even renting it, they offer technical/AV support and security. The Ritz Charles and Conrad Indianapolis are the exclusive caterers for the Artsgarden. When the facility is really decked out for a formal event, it's quite remarkable. The best part of renting the space is that you're also supporting the Arts Council. read more

I was so looking for to a lovely evening at the Artsgarden for an event. I've been sitting here trying to come up with reasons to give them a better review, but I really can't. The Artsgarden is connected to the mall and hotel and is not a private location. They block it off for weddings, receptions, etc but people still walk by and peek in to your event. There were also no restrooms just for our group so we had to use the public restrooms out by the food court. The elevators were also public mall elevators that everyone else was riding. Just be warned this isn't an exclusive venue. The reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because it's really pretty with the 360 degree views of downtown and the balcony area. Maybe this place is great if you're walking through the mall on a normal day, but I was not impressed with this place as a venue for an event. Womp womp. read more

This is a nice, unexpected area adjacent to the Circle Centre Mall. Apparently it's a venue that you can rent for events, but when we visited, it was empty except for dozens of tables, chairs and a stage. The kids we brought loved just running around inside and peering out of the huge windows that overlook the bustle of downtown. There is also a huge staircase that is fun (for kids) to go up and down, because kids like to climb stairs for some reason. There are many windows and natural light flowing into the space, and real trees strung with twinkle lights. In various display cases set up around the Artsgarden, you can see artwork from different local artists. It's a very pleasant place. read more

I attended a holiday concert here. The setup was beautiful and the holiday lights were a nice touch. It was easy to find and the door attendant was friendly. Following the performance we had to exit through the closed mall. Right outside the Artsgarden entrance there were many questionable individuals hanging around. Mall/Artsgarden security should be more diligent at keeping this outside. read more

I've seen a number of reviews from folks who have held events at the Artsgarden and yes, they do have some legitimate criticisms about restrooms and access to a space suspended above the intersection of Washington and Illinois Streets. But my review is based upon the main purpose of the the Artsgarden: To showcase the local artists through a series of public performances and visual art exhibitions. It also serves as a "cultural Concierge" providing information about that arts and cultural activities in the area, making it possible for visitors to take in the events when time and money allow it. The Artsgarden is run by the Arts Council of Indianapolis. There is a lunchtime music series several times each week called "Garden Jams". Local professional musicians are scheduled to perform for the lunch hour Noon to 1 pm for no charge to the public. So, whether you are just passing through the facility from one building to another or have grabbed a lunch and decided to take a seat, there is frequently music/entertainment available. The Arts Council website has a list of performance dates and talent schedule for the month. Each month, there is also a new visual exhibit, not limited to professionals, so you may find works from emerging artists, students, and different cultural and social organizations. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention this amazing physical structure soaring seven stories into the downtown sky. Lots of glass makes excellent viewing for a birds eye view of downtown. We spent a while sitting here with drinks from a local coffee shop- it's a lovely place to study, read, or rest your feet during a day of walking around downtown Indy. read more

I went to the Artsgarden for Midwest Fashion week Indy and if I am rating off of the location. It was nice. It was perfect for a fashion show with the perfect space and natural lighting to help really make the show pop. Small enough venue to have a reception or fashion show. The location is inside of the mall which did not interfere with shoppers but the set up of the fashion was confusing including the placement of the marketing team that sat directly in front of the show. Not sure how shows are supposed to be ran but it was a little confusing and visually unpleasing but that would probably have to do with those that put the show together and not necessarily the Artsgarden. I would look forward to seeing other events at this location to see how it goes but for what I went to, it was a nice location. read more

I worked and attended an event last night at the Artsgarden for my current internship. Although our event was a huge success, the venue had its flaws. Since the Artsgarden is connected to other buildings, including the mall and a hotel, the room can get filled with outside chatter. They tried to accommodate both our organization's event and outside walkers by putting up curtains to separate the walk area from the venue, but people were still able to look inside and talk openly. Not only did outside chatter disrupt the intimacy of the event, but also the restroom situation. Guests had to use the mall's public restroom since the Artsgarden doesn't have its own private bathrooms. Overall, there was just a lack of intimacy and exclusiveness. Even though the venue had its flaws, it was still an amazing event. The caterers and event planners were extremely helpful and awesome to work with throughout the planning process and the actual execution. They made the overall event run very smoothly. The building is in the smack dab of downtown, so you are able to look at the beautiful city through the all-glass window building. So, the real question is should you or should you not have your event at the Artsgarden? My answer is yes but just be aware of the cons. The outside noise can be distracting and the restroom situation is annoying, but the venue is beautiful and the Artsgarden planners/caterers are fantastic! read more

This is a very interesting place! It's smack in the middle of downtown Indianapolis located in Circle Centre Mall. It is also connected to The Conrad Hotel, Embassy Suites and the Skywalk connects a few more hotels. You can come here and have an impromptu piano concert (we did this day) or some other musical event, or art showing to entertain you. Many people were here eating lunch while we were touring the Artsgarden space looking for party venues. We were here in the middle of the day, so I would really like to see the venue at night to see how the lighting looks. The Artsgarden hosts many events and you are able to rent it out for your special event (wedding, holiday party, company party, ect.). I noticed two things.....You could hear sirens pretty loudly as they went underneath the Artsgarden and the skywalk and secondly even though they put up partitions for the public to walk around your private event, I would still be wondering if anyone would be trying to get into the event because it still is a public place. read more

I definitely like this place....It is located in downtown Indy city and has four connections to hotels, shopping places. Visitor center is also here. There are some performances going on almost all the time.....you can buy lunch from Circle Center and come here to enjoy city view and music! read more

I am the center of the universe! --- well, at least that's what I like to think to myself when I'm lounging about in the Artsgarden like a Greek goddess on Mount Olympus. The beautifully symmetrical glass vault rests above the intersection of E. Washington St. and N. Illinois St., offering an all-encompassing view of downtown Indianapolis. Watch the world pass you by in this sanctuary, above all the madness that is downtown Indianapolis. When I first moved to Indy, my first job was close to downtown. On my lunch hour, I would drive down and simply walk the streets to familiarize myself with my new home. Before I knew it, I found myself on a corner looking at what I would later come to know as the Artsgarden. I wanted to know what that thing was up there. SHINY! Must. Touch. Shiny. Thing. I made my way through the Circle City Mall and found myself in a small lounge area with tables and benches, surrounded with artwork, indoor trees, a small stage area, and a desk filled with brochures for free exhibits and shows in the Artsgarden. Oh, did I mention it's free? Yeah, over 300 free lunchtime concerts and exhibitions throughout the year. That's a lot of free stuff. Ever go in here when it's raining? I like gardens ... well this was just a cute little mall ... not much the way of art or gardens so I was disappointed. The glass vaulted ceilings are pretty .. cute frog fountain. You might pass right through this on your way to the mall or hotel or other offerings in the area, but you might not realize it's actually a venue! There are lots of different events that go on in here. Most recently, I saw a friend perform a show for her album release. The venue is very pretty - the trees, lights, and sights outside of the venue. If you're looking to make it a private event, they will close it off so that it's as private as it can be using temporary walls and/or curtains. It's a good venue, not the best, which is why I'm giving it a four stars. Ps - look in the trees! You'll find butterflies made out of book pages. So cute! read more

This garden was right next door to our hotel, Conrad. Well, we took the skybridge and walked around the stores and garden. We were amazed that there was an indoor garden which they have concerts and events. Anyways, there is a super helpful visitor desk where they have maps and brochures on things to do at Indy. I came here for the Indy Eleven Kickoff Ball and this was my first experience attending an event here. What a pretty venue right in the heart of downtown! My only complaint is that at least the way I came in was through the mall and it was somewhat weird leaving the event and walking out to the food court. It was nice the elevator and restrooms were close to the space even though they were in the food court and once you were in the space you would not think you are at a mall. read more

I am in love with the ArtsGarden. I can still remember seeing it for the first time, and just how cool I thought it was. The views are phenomenal-not in a height aspect, but just walking around and seeing the street views from one floor above is cool. I have seen many private events being held there, and I always love the holiday decorations. I love to get a pretzel from the mall, and go sit at one of the tables on the little upper level. It's also a great place to people watch. read more
