Run down facility, poorly cared for animals and thoroughly unpleasant staff. Just drive a little further north for better barns

I love Paige! I've been taking lessons for a few months now and love it. I moved out to the area from Western mass and was happy to find a barn that felt welcoming and similar to the one that I was at before. Indian Rock is an amazing place with amazing people! It doesn't matter if you're a beginner or advanced the trainers and people are amazing. A couple years after I started riding my family wanted to get me a horse Paige Benson my trainer was amazing helping me find my dream horse. When we finally found my dream horse, Paige helped me fix the flaws to get us prepared for show season together. Me and my horse achieved a lot together. Paige has a good eye for horses that is for sure! Me and my horse made a special bond. My horse passed a couple months ago, Paige has helped us a lot since then. She is now helping me find my dream horse again. I can't say enough good things about Paige and Indian Rock Stables. I know that without the people and trainers at Indian Rock Stables, I would not be as good a rider as I am now. I love Indian Rock Stables! read more

I boarded my horse here for a handful of months in 2012-2013 -- and I am embarrassed to admit that. Despite paying for "full board", my horse's stall was not cleaned every day, and given that he was rarely ever turned outside, it was a very unhealthy situation for him. Maintenance on the couple, small turn-out paddocks they had was non-existent and broken boards were the norm. I cannot strongly enough recommend looking elsewhere. This is a very unhealthy barn for horses. The care is substandard, at best. read more

IRS is a friendly relaxed place for competitors and trail riders alike. My horse was given to me by the owners and I boarded there for two years; I still visit frequently. The facilities consist of one large barn, a smaller.barn, and about ten "shedrow" type stalls. There are three small and medium sized turnout rings and two round pens, one small and one large. The trail system is on the Lynn Woods reservation and is one of the best in the state. The barn's lesson horses are friendly, well cared for, and absolutely bomb proof. Lessons are offered for both Western and English disciplines, as well as in hand showmanship. The barn does have a show team that is very successful.The stable also has a very enjoyable, safe, and educational summer camp program. The boarders are a mix of racehorse owners and (for the most part) private owners whose horses are pampered pets. Staff and owners are on property 24/7; the owner's house is 20 feet away from the barn. I think this barn is a nice friendly place to board and ride. The instructors in particular are very kid and teenager friendly. I would encourage.anyone who enjoys the outdoors and who has a multi-discipline equestrian background to give IRS a try. read more

Shifty place with aggressive attitude from staff. Not easy to get in contact with. Wondered why they were so sketchy and after a quick google search found that they evaded taxes for a while in recent years. Nice. read more

I usually don't write reviews, but felt our experience was worthy of a review. I visited Indian Rock Stables with my two kids, 6 & 9 years old for the first time this week. My kids had one of the BEST riding lessons with Paige and John. Contrary to many of the (out dated) reviews out there about this stable, it was well kept and the crew was hard at work. Some of the reviews seem to be personalized (i.e. the reviewer once worked there, etc.). For the reviewers that mentioned that it is gross, etc.. remember that horses are very large creatures with lots of maintenance. I have high sanitary expectations, however, when you enter an environment as such - have SOME tolerance people! There are 30+ horses (many privately owned) to maintain and Paige seems to be doing a great job at maintaining this stable! Also, it is SO close to the city, I am happy to have discovered it and glad that I didn't have to drive 35+ miles outside of the city. Paige is very friendly with an out going personality, good with kids and she gave my kids GREAT instruction. It was a very positive experience for both of my children. John has been at the stable for couple of years and showed a natural love for horses and was great with my children as well. They look very forward to their next lesson soon! read more
