For two years in a row I have used ACIS for my anual Senior Spring Break trip. This year, we went to Barcelona-Provence-Paris. First, our guide, Matteo, was outstanding. He kept us on our feet all day. We walked miles and miles and saw all the sights. He was incredibly knowledgeable, stayed with us until we went through the gates at the airport, and was an excellent resource for planning what to do during downtime. The food was outstanding. ACIS did not cut corners because we were traveling with students. We had paella in Barcelona, escargot in Paris, and wonderful breakfasts each morning. ACIS made all dietary accommodations we needed and our kids were never hungry. But meals were also a cultural experience. We ate at local restaurants and learned about the various cuisines we were eating. Each day had a packed itinerary, and by the time we were back at our lovely hotels, students were beat. We really did as much as we could every day and didn't waste a single moment. ACIS does cost a little more than other companies. But you certainly get what you pay for. Liz Rees from this company told my daughter that she was "not a candidate for group travel" due to her disability. Of course, this is a school trip, my daughter's 504 plan accommodations are in full effect...but Liz has never heard of a 504 plan, and is quite sure it doesn't apply to her company. Liz likes to tell all sorts of stories about traveling with her company is like, but the details of those stories change from one sentence to the next. If you are surprised or dismayed by what she says in her first sentence, never fear! Just wait for another sentence or two, and what she says then will be the complete opposite. If you decide to go on one of these trips, you are making the biggest mistake of your life. This was one of the most disfunctional, disorganized, infuriating, and enraging experiences ever. Throughout this trip, I found myself constantly wondering what they did with all the money I paid for it. To give you a few examples, the dinners we attended we're unbelievably awful, I found a bug in my food, and somehow they managed to find a restaurant in Sevilla Spain that fed us chicken nuggets for dinner. Another example. A majority of the trip was spent attempting to find our bus, trying to gather our group, and mainly just waiting around. I am appalled that this trip was thousands of dollars, because based on our daily activities, restaurants, and hotels, this trip should have been not even half the price. The only thing they seem to have spent money on was the plane tickets, which by the way, no one was sat with the group at all and almost everyone was in middle seats. They robbed us blind with the amount of hours alluded to travelling when the itinerary explicitly stated we would be in each city for 2 days, when in reality it was about one day and 2 hours each. For many many hours of the day, we had free time so me and my friend just wandered around alone for a long time, wondering what happened to the packed itinerary we were supposed to have. I would really love to go on about the 500 crises I experienced on this trip, but it would take forever and our group is currently been walking around for an hour and a half, searching for the bus in 92 degrees, making us near 2 hours late to the palace of Versailles, completely limiting our time there. The saving grace of this trip was solely the beautiful countries we went to, and nothing else. I am in high school and 100% I could plan out a better trip. I truly wish I could rate this 0 starts, but unfortunately I cannot. You literally could NOT pay me to go on a trip with acis again. read more

This time last year I was returning from a trip to France with my daughter's HS. Ah...the memories! About 20 years ago I went to France with my mom's French class with another tour company, not quite this caliber. ACIS, our guide, bus drivers, and it helps to have a good teacher that is leading the trip. After reading some negative reviews I feel that someone didn't share the proper information or someone didn't read the details. Our trip was about $4000 for 11 days in France - Paris, Loire Valley, St Malo, Rouen, and back to Paris. The level of hotels were wonderful, only one without AC, but I enjoyed the window open with a breeze. Showers were nice and great breakfasts. Limited elevators at one, but only two flights of stairs. After all the walking we did, a couple flights of stairs isn't a problem. The guide, Sonya, was magnifique! We followed a schedule everyday and we saw as much as possible. She had heard me mention Fragonard and ended up finding some time to stop by. WOW! By my fitbit measure, we walked about 12,000 steps each day. Bus drivers were fabulous with getting our luggage off and on the bus, getting us through crazy busy streets and super friendly. If you are going for relaxation...this is not it. This is a GO GO GO way to travel, but we saw so much. Would I do it again? You bet! We have a wonderful French teacher to lead them again. My #2 daughter and husband are going June 2019. This company is misrepresenting the tours. It is a clear case of bait and switch, promising admittance to certain attractions then cancelling them once you are there. They provided another "experience" in place of the one being cancelled-the Louvre visit in Paris was cancelled and a virtual reality tour of Notre Dame was provided instead. What a joke. This is NOT an equal experience. We had a horrible time on our trip and I would NOT recommend using your hard earned money to line the pockets of this corrupt business. I went to Spain with this agency and it was a horrific experience. I do not recommend this travel agency to anyone, it's a waste of money. Our tour manager, Almudena, was incredibly disappointing, unfriendly, and undeniably inflexible. The itinerary's are packed and "free time" to explore the city on your own are incredibly limited and non-existent. If your looking to explore a country, and have a great experience, this is not the agency for you. Our group was additionally abandoned by the agency following the airline cancelling our flight home. Customer service is also incredibly difficult to get ahold of; I complained in June and didn't hear back until August. I also felt my complaint was completely brushed off. My trip was canceled due to the pandemic 2 years ago. They refunded some of my money, not all of it, then gave me a voucher with $1,000 credit. This year I tried to redeem the voucher. They never pick up the phone. Only once have they actually picked up so that I could talk to a live person. I began exchanging emails with a representative. They wouldn't let me choose my own tour, I had to pick a fixed date tour. The one I chose turned out to be full and the only option left is the most expensive one. They said I'm already late for registration and that I have to pay in full ASAP. I tried to call them and they won't pick up, and I know they're not closed yet! read more

I don't recommend this Tour company. I purchased the 100% Refund policy and had to cancel my daughter's trip within the timeframe given. When I cancelled, I was told it will be "within 45 days to receive my refund". I was ok with that. But it ended up being a refund that was piecemealed. A portion to my checking account. A check sent in my daughter's name?? And then beyond the 45 days I still was outstanding $1,900. I kept getting emails with push back and excuses that didn't align with what was on their website. If you run into problems, contact the Attorney General's Office of Massachusetts and open a complaint. (AG's office told me they had multiple complaints filed against them; they were ultimately resolved). They stepped in and helped me retrieve my money. Good Luck! read more

We had to cancel our sons trip, at the appropriate cutoff date, due to COVID-19. Today has been exactly 2 months before any refund began in no less than 10 transactions at odd amounts, not even the amounts we paid at ANY time. Not only are they still short $1,189 from even showing up they are not honoring the insurance revision of everything refunded with the exception of $50. No one will return your call or communicate with you but they have specific deadlines when you have to pay them. I would not recommend anyone I know or don't know for that matter to do business with this company! We had the ultimate plan and should have been refunded all but $50 yet they are keeping $370 for whatever reason they have yet to explain! I was made to choose a rating star otherwise it would not post but in reality I would give them NO STAR rating! read more

ACIS refused to refund the deposit for our tour when Covid hit. They offered a travel vouchers for later use. We contacted them to confirm the expiration date of the voucher and was told a different date that what was printed on our vouchers (we misplaced our vouchers with a lot of things going on). We told us it was Dec 2022, but when we later found our vouchers, late this year, the actual expiration date is Dec 2023. It was too late to do anything, We contacted them with the email trail of their rep giving us the wrong date, but they refused to accept our request of extending for 12 months so we can plan. They don't even accept the fact that their representative made the mistake. I understand that it was printed on the vouchers, But not to even considered the entire situation does not show that they are good people to work with. There is no person to talk to, just a chat line and they just disconnected me on the chat line when I discuss the issue. My son was due to travel to France at the end of the month. We had paid $4200 dollars for the trip. We have been told that we would be penalized $1500 for the trip leader canceling the trip. We were further told that we would only receive $1700 cash back on the $4200 we originally paid plus a voucher for $1000. My son is a senior and the voucher is of no use at all. So out of the $4200 ACIS is pocketing $2500 of our money. Now students who are rolling over to take the trip next year have all of their funds intact, while it is baffling since they are not being penalized at all for the canceling. I suspect that ACIS is doing all it can to retain profits. I can under a 20% cancellation policy but frankly 60%. We are contacting legal counsel and will be contacting the FTC. read more

I used ACIS for the first time last year after running tours with another company for 15 years. I will never go back. Hotels are truly central, the meals are substantial and the guides are excellent. The pre travel support I received from my Tour Consultant, Jeannie, made the planning of our trip so much easier than their competitor. But here's where ACIS really stands out to me. We were in country in March 2020, two days before the Covid travel shut down. Long story short, things changed within days after our departure. You can tell a lot about a company by how they respond during a time of crisis. ACIS shined. We had our new flights within hours and we all got home safely. Even with all of this, my travelers had a life changing travel experience. As a matter of fact, I just received a text message from a graduated traveler thanking me for her travel experience and how much it changed her life. There are other travel companies out there, many probably cheaper. Please remember this - you get what you pay for. Are you really in London if it takes two train rides to get into the center of the city? How much time do you lose in the city because you have to catch the last train? They waited until international travel was suspended before holding our money hostage for another few months then started citing their refund policies. The airlines refunded everyone. I'm glad they didn't because knowing what I know now, I would never let my daughter travel with a company that treats their customers like this. They changed their vaccination policy 7 months after signing up, and then if you didn't get your child vaccinated, they canceled your trip and won't fully refund your money. They blamed the country we were traveling to for the reason for vaccination, but at the time, and currently, the country doesn't require vaccination. Needless to say, they are refusing to refund the money stating that in the terms and conditions, which 1) I did not 2)there is nothing in the terms and conditions that allow them to change their own policy for travel. I am about to take my 21st trip with ACIS. I am loyal to them because they have always delivered a quality experience. The very FEW times that something has gone awry, they have overcompensated to make things right. I have never had a problem getting in touch with a real person in an emergency, via their 24-hour emergency line. Once the President himself even answered! Excellent hotels, above average food, experienced and fun your managers...I can't say enough good things about ACIS. There are cheaper options out there, but they are just that. CHEAP. So go ahead, trust your educational travel experience to a company that will take good care of you no matter what! read more

ACIS is a great educational touring company that my wife and I used to take some of her German students on a tour to several cities in Germany and Czech Republic this past March/April of 2017. We've done a couple tour companies that we never had anything bad to say about, but now experiencing ACIS, it by far was our favorite of the 3. We had a small group of students so we didn't get to do our original tour but got grouped with another school who had a mostly German agenda. We knew this going in so it wasn't a surprise. ACIS was by far the easiest to work with by getting back to us promptly, keeping us informed at all critical stages of pre-trip and during the trip. Once we arrived in Munich, our tour manager, Libby Brown, was fantastic. She was super personable, had a great sense of humor, and was extremely well organized. She has been with the company for a long time and touring with her was a true delight. She was very knowledgable of the areas we went to and was interesting to listen to. The students really liked and appreciated her as well. The touring company picked great sites/activities to see/do in each of the cities and in most of the cities we had a local tour guide who did some bus touring and lots of walking touring. Our hotel accommodations were really nice everywhere we stayed in Germany. There was a hotel switch in Prague (not the fault of ACIS) which the hotel apologized profusely and tried to make that up to us. It wasn't our favorite hotel on the trip, but still provided a decent breakfast and a comfortable place to sleep. It was also located very close to the old town of Prague which the original hotel was a bit further off. The restaurants they chose for dinners and meal selection were also thought out well and gave a good sense of food in the area. Our tour was Munich-Nuremburg-Prague-Dresden-Berlin and was an interesting and exciting itinerary with each upcoming destination. I had been to Munich and Berlin before, but the Berlin tour was exceptional compared to other times visiting the city. These tours do cost quite a bit but it does involve round-trip airfare, all ground transportation, accommodations, breakfast & dinner, admission/entrance fees to the places you are taken to, local guides, and chaperones. You will have to tip the tour manager and bus driver daily. They tell you this amount long before the trip and generally its given to them all at once. They also will work with you if you have airline points you want to use, etc. All of the students we took on this trip were very excited by their experience and the only complaint we received was that it would have been nice to have more free time as they really keep you busy. It's a bit of a shock to me that others have had hardships with ACIS. We plan to use them for upcoming educational tours. read more

My daughter's France trip was cancelled due to COVID. Told we could roll over to a new trip in 2021. My daughter is not comfortable traveling nor do we as her parents feel it will be safe so we cancelled. We were told $650 of the almost $4,000 paid was non refundable. We were told this was due to the many expenses they already incurred. Maybe ACIS needs to rethink their business plan or at least it seems like they are the ones that need insurance to cover these expenses they said they incurred and weren't refunded. Instead they are keeping the money of many hard working families. Money paid for an experience our children NEVER received. So sorry I ever agreed to this trip and will NEVER consider another tour from this company for any of my children. These companies should not be allowed to practice business in this manner. Recently took a trip to Peru on ACIS. The trip was really incredible and was the first group educational trip I had ever taken. There were 19 of us in our group and we had a full time tour manager who went way out of his way taking care of everyone. The hotels, restaurants, tour busses et al were great. The itinerary was fast paced and included knowledgeable local guides that really new everything about the sites we were seeing. The staff went out of their way helping us when some had issues with altitude sickness, the flu or other issues. I think the entire group enjoyed the trip immensely and learned a great deal about all the varied places we visited. It was an incredible trip that I would recommend to everyone that loves travel and really wants to have an educational travel experience. read more

Now that I am back from my trip with students to cities in Spain and France, I can honestly and positively say I still absolutely ADORE ACIS! After many years of planning, I finally took a trip to Spain and France with 39 students and 7 adult chaperones. I was a first time group leader and everyone has told me this was a HUGE group to take, especially for a first timer, but ACIS made everything awesome. Our Tour Manager on the trip was excellent. She was with us 24/7 and spoke Spanish and French (French I'm good with, but Spanish.. no). She was very familiar with the cities, people, cuisine and sites that we encountered on our trip. She lived in Barcelona for six years and spent a few in France, as well. She was really friendly, straightforward and happy. Our students really enjoyed her, which is very important to me. All of the accommodations in every destination were as promised: top-rated hotels, comfortable beds, recently remodeled and always had WiFi. Each hotel also had an in-house restaurant, nice bar and great lounge area for hanging out. Students and adults alike took advantage of the lounge areas to mingle, talk and use computers. All of our excursions were as promised: full of great, local, knowledgeable commentary and as in-depth as possible for our travel time frame. My FAVORITE part of the excursions were the "Cultural Connections". Included in the price were: Flamenco dancing lessons, paella cooking class, bike tour of Barcelona and horseback riding in Camargue. These are things that most people who live in these places will never experience and I feel so happy to have been able to introduce my students to these one-of-a-kind cultural experiences that they have learned about in class. I recommend every aspect of ACIS to new and experienced teacher travelers and group leaders. For me, ACIS was the best because I was always in communication with someone, including a local Chicago office. They answered all 242233 of my pre-departure questions without seeming annoyed and they explained everything ahead of time so there were no surprises leading up to or during the trip. Our price was quoted accurately, everything that they said was included was included and we had a ton of fun, which no one can put a price on. I am already planning my spring 2015 trip. read more

ACIS is a HORRIBLE company to do business with. My child was scheduled to leave for a trip to Italy, during the Coronavirus Pandemic and ACIS refused to work with us. We had travel insurance as tried to cancel 29 days prior to the trip. They offered a voucher to go on next year, but my child is a graduating senior and would be in College. They refused to give a refund. They kept $2500 of our money that was paid in the trip. ACIS waited to cancel 2 weeks prior to leaving. They were willing to take our children to a country that wasn't safe and did not cancel until the Government put Italy on lockdown. The entire ordeal was TERRIBLE. ACIS is keeping almost half the money we paid even after there was a government ban on travel so we could not take this trip. They are stating the trip was not cancelled within a certain time so the customer is responsible for not following the refund policy. They are choosing not to do the right thing and offer full refunds. They are doing this to multiple schools and families and are making money for services that were not provided. I traveled with ACIS in the summer of 2016 on the Toujours in France itinerary. My group of 20 had a phenomenal time! This was my first time taking students abroad and I have no regrets going with ACIS; I'll be going again in 2018 on the same itinerary...that's how amazing it was! From the beginning, I appreciated that ACIS was not high-pressure like the other companies are. Throughout the pre-departure process, I was provided with excellent resources and timely responses to all my questions. On tour, we had a simply wonderful time. From the moment we landed in Paris, everything was taken care of and arranged for us. All we had to do was enjoy our trip! Our hotels were centrally located and high-quality, and we always were in safe neighborhoods. The rooms were quaint and comfortable. Our group couldn't stop raving about the quality of our breakfasts each day...croissants, pastries, meats, cheeses, yogurts, breads, fruits, café au lait, chocolat chaud, eggs...it was always a great way to start our day! Our dinners were quality and authentic - we got to sample local specialities and never had American-style food. My students loved getting to try escargot one night in Paris...they still talk about it in class to this day! Even the hungriest boys on my trip left stuffed after every dinner, so I never had to worry about kids being hungry. Our tour guide Servane was engaging, fun, and responsive to our needs. Servane was full of historical info, stories, and even taught us a few songs on the bus! Each evening, she would give me the rundown of the next day's plans, and also ask for feedback on how things went that day. I appreciated that Servane ran the show and I could enjoy the trip alongside my students! Our activities were thoughtfully organized and allowed us just about the right amount of time at each stop. My group particularly enjoyed the slower pace in the countryside, especially the city of Chartres! I highly recommend that you use ACIS for your educational travel needs; this is a quality company that will take care of you and your students from beginning to end. You may pay a few hundred more than those budget companies, but the experience and total peace of mind will be more than worth it! read more

Unfortunately, this company has provided me with the worst customer service experience and endangered my group members' health by not cancelling our trip after I literally begged them to. ACIS, disregarding a worldwide pandemic, flew my group, the last group from United States out to Europe and has put us through great struggles in four days. The tour was supposed to take us to London, Paris and Barcelona and the duration of the tour was supposed to be from March 11- March 19. On March 10th, with most of the governments worldwide making major changes about traveling and the rapid increase of the COVID 19 cases, I contacted ACIS customer service to inform my concerns about this tour and in some sort of compensation, I asked for the cancellation of this trip. However, my concerns were completely ignored and I was told that there will be no refund. Having to go through incredible hard time paying off this trip, I did not want to throw my money out so I had to go to the trip. ACIS, not only cancelled two destinations on this trip, they have also shortened it to four days which included the traveling as well. However, most importantly, ACIS, RISKING my health, ignoring the WORLDWIDE PANDEMIC, has put me through incredibly challenging, psychologically damaging, and very stressful four days. I now am seeking psychological assistance after this trip and still have incredible concerns and stress. ACIS is responsible for a huge damage both financially, physically and psychologically in my life. After putting our group through hell, they gave us $450 back from a $4000 trip. This company is not trustworthy, not caring and most importantly not honest, they valued the financial factors over health and they gave us the most troubled experience of our lives. I booked for a trip for my son, but have to cancel. Unfortunately they are charging a $350 cancellation fee and the trip is only over spring break of 2018! I have also been advised that there is a 45 day waiting period for the funds to be refunded! Not happy! read more

Clearly no concern for student safety. My daughter was supposed to be on the April 6th trip to Munich, Prague, and Krakow. When the war started in Ukraine, our travel group leader asked ACIS to alter the itinerary to avoid Krakow. The company would not alter the schedule, siting "nothing had changed in Poland and it was completely safe." Krakow is 150 miles from the Ukrainian border and the country has taken in over 3 million refugees. There have been news reports of NATO troops stationed in Krakow directly. I hardly believe that "life in Poland is going on as usual." We were faced with the hard decision to cancel and lose a large portion of our paid trip, which we did. ACIS policy is unless a country is on the US do not travel advisory, they will not waive their cancellation policy. It is clear that ACIS has no concern for the safety of its underaged travelers. The fact that that they would not reroute a bunch of high school students away from a war torn area is mind boggling! read more

WISH I HAD NEVER SIGNED UP!!! It's essentially a pyramid scheme, your group leader is just someone who's getting a free trip in exchange for acting as a customer service blockade, they don't know anything more than you, but you have to go through them. When they can't solve your problem (which they can't because they're just another traveler) ACIS says they can't do anything because you didn't contact them soon enough. They have fine print detailing that they can change anything and you're on the hook! They make whatever decisions will improve their profit margin. They weren't going to make enough money from our group, so we got added to another group, with different dates. We were given our flight details late, and I realized that I was scheduled to fly out of the wrong airport, my registration said Washington, DC - turns out that they have fine print that "Washington, DC" also includes an airport that is an hour outside the city with no public transportation. When I asked to have my flight changed to the DC airport, I was told that I would need to pay a $300 flight change fee (United Airlines charges $200, so ACIS just wants to make some more money there) and that the $222 dollar flight from DC is $136 more than, what apparently was a $86 flight? - either United gives ACIS a worse deal than the general public, or they're just trying to get more money. Now, I am being told that if I miss that flight, my whole trip will be cancelled...that's not how airlines normally work (I have missed a flight before). THEY WILL SAY ANYTHING TO GET MORE MONEY. They don't have anything resembling customer service. I will go on this trip because I've already invested significant time and money - but I will tell anyone who will listen to never travel with them! read more

Fees kept being added on during the registration process. The hotel was dirty, the restaurant menus very unhealthy and limited, very few itinerary details were given to us and the few we were given kept changing. When I asked for information about what was happening I was ignored or humiliated. One of the venues was very physically uncomfortable for the kids. A disappointing experience. read more

I have taken three student trips with ACIS. This company is the gold standard of student travel! I went to Spain once and Costa Rica twice. Amazing! I would definitely recommend going with ACIS especially if it is your first student trip. They take care of EVERYTHING. Great company to work with! Be very careful. Even though the coach backed out of the tour, ACIS is tyring to hold on to our money. The cancellation policy is onerous. With our 180 days left prior to the trip, our coach cancelled. ACIS tried putting us with another team, but this is not what we signed up for. As other reviews state, they will keep some of your money even though it was a 180 days out for the cancellation. Watch for "bait and switch" tactics. read more
