Holy shit, what a gas... As part of our social engagement…read morefor work. We were designated to go on a bus tour of the Boston scene. Not necessarily the usual Boston, the underground Boston. Mobsters and Lobsters is a mafia story laden trip that ends up at the south shore popular lobster eatery. Although Mother Nature and the traffic in downtown Boston decided yo play games with us the owner who's name actually is Tom Collins, started off with a quick quip yo get the folks settled and the first round of beverages were begun. Tom brings us around to the spectacular locations and spots where specific mobsters from the years past were doing their cunning and not so cunning work. Tom's knowledge for this thoroughly interesting topic is unmatched. His serious knowledge of the history of other significant historical places and events speckled with his dry "Bastan" humor. Made this trip extremely worthwhile. The duration was four hours long which also included a Lobster dinner at a local eatery on the south Boston harbor. I haven't laughed this hard in a long while. If you are in beantown for a spell. I highly recommend you and you motley crew join Tom for an interesting alcohol added trip back in time. I am positive your jaws and cheeks will be sore from laughing so hard. Be aware this is an "R" rated trip! But very worth it. Thanks Tom for making this a great memorable evening.

The private tours were great because we could request customized information. For example, learning the fascinating Black history of Salem. The tour guides have a wealth of knowledge and experience. I've learned lots on every tour. The guides go into different angles of history. Last time, I learned about why the Puritans came to the New World (now the United States) in the first place and that they were very different from the Pilgrams who arrived before them. Giovanni, in particular, has always given me tips for more activities. He is active in the Salem United which had a free exhibit at Hamilton Hall about the Negro Election Day a couple years ago. I've appreciated that the guides are all conscientious about climate comfort too. It rained on the first tour and our guide made sure that we could be covered when he was speaking. The last time was a hot and sunny day and our guide found shaded spots for us.

We did the donut food tour in Cambridge…read more Our tour guide was a student and very nice, a bit quiet but she shared a good amount of interesting donut history. We lucked out with a very amicable group. We went to 4 different spots. They made a point (a few times) to highlight local businesses which was great. The tour was designed around going from the earliest history of donuts to the future of donuts, plus a side bar on churros. The tour was very short and the only feedback I would give for improvement would be to include a bit more walking between stops, although I get that the shops are all very close together, it would have been good to have a bit of time to digest. And I would recommend bringing water/a drink to wash down all the donuts. The cost was about $48 after fees and we got a good amount of donuts samples plus a Greek coffee. A couple of the businesses also brought some nice treats for the people on our tours whose birthday it was which made it extra special. This was a really nice way to explore some local businesses, eat really delicious donuts, and learn a bit about the history of the donut. Overall I would recommend.
