Joey was our tour guide this past Sunday and he EXCEEDED our expectations. Very rarely have I encountered a tour guide who is so invested in what he does. The tour was a little confusing with multiple colored routes (same price for hop on/off?) and overselling tickets in the rain. People had to sit on laps and on stairs to avoid "standing", which is against the rules. The driver kindly explained to people he was full and spent a lot of time trying to convince existing passengers to "make room" by piling on top of another, which is unpleasant when we clearly paid for separate tickets. It's not our fault you reduced your service to every 30min in the rain? Also, the trolleys have no windows, which means in the rain they have these plastic flaps that come down and zero ventilation. this meant the plastic fogged up from the heat and we could not see anything. Some of us struggled to breathe inside with no air circulation, and with no umbrella bags we also sat in puddles of water while getting soaked. I feel with the amount of rain Boston sees, the trolley tour should have a solution or not operate. read more

Very fun tour! Our guide was well-informed and very funny.We also enjoyed chatting with the ownet and ticket-sellers beforehand. Very nice, friendly people! Their new multi-lingual app was a godsend. Save your time and your money and just go to the other great business ( trolleytours.com) the ones with orange and green trolleys instead. The salesperson charged my card twice because he kept insisting along with the manager that the purchases didn't go through and they would clear from my pending charges but of course, they completed a few days later. Along with the weird comment the manager made "Ugh! Our machine costs us $150 dollars" (referring to me and my two coworkers) as if we were just dollar signs and no apology whatsoever. Contrary to popular belief, most people won't trust you or your companies POS system if it clearly charged your card twice but it keeps "freezing" and you keep insisting the purchase didn't go through but anyways, now i'm left to deal with two $50 charges and I didn't even get to ride that trolley lol. read more

My husband and I live in Boston, and we brought my parents from out of town on this tour. Joey D was our guide. His tour was informative, interesting, and accurate. There was a parade happening the Old State House/Faneuil Hall, which really backed up traffic (worse than it already is in Boston, which is saying something). He was forced to detour off course, but he found the shortest route to get back to the route. He even picked up a family with younger kids who were walking to another stop because theirs was being blocked off by the parade. All in all: good driver, good guide, nice guy. Ok some of the tour guides were awesome, super interesting and funny, and some were totally rude. They ask for tips a lot, which would be so expensive if you tip at each spot. We tipped but not each one each time. One even chastised us for not tipping and we could hear him going on about us after we got off the tour. I'm glad I didn't pay full price for the tickets but damn dude. Left a bad taste in our mouths. I guess pay your tour guides better so they don't have to ask us for tips. We bought a Groupon for 3 people and redeemed for a 4:30 ride. The ticket taker seemed hesitant for us to redeem but didn't deny us. Once we got on board the tour guide said it would be a bunch of traffic & he isn't even sure why they sell 4:30 tickets. Despite the traffic we had a great time. There was no hopping on and off due to the time but we wanted to just ride and learn anyway. Joe our driver was great. He was very witty, funny and informative! 3.5 stars. Our driver/guide was very informational and passionate. He did keep telling our trolley to whisper since the group was loud I guess. Additionally we asked to be dropped off near the Children's Museum as we wanted to go to the Seaport District. He said he was going to drop us off closer but forgot and drove back to the aquarium. Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! The driver talked so much and said nothing. He shushed passengers. They only allow one trip around, so it's not dependable. Worst of all it takes forever for a new trolley to come if you hop off. We ended up taking an Uber. Very disappointing. read more

Overpriced and learned nothing! We were unaware that there were two hop on hop off companies and thought we were purchasing tickets for Trolley Tours with double the stops. We saw a hop on hop off ticket booth near Faneuil Hall and assumed it was the same company. We paid almost $90 for two tickets and learned nothing. We planned to take the trolley for a complete loop and circle back to our points of interest. Our first driver was horrible, so bad that we got off half way through because he was more interested in talking about dogs and making stupid dad jokes verses telling you any history. Our second driver was a bit better. He did tell us a few history facts, but nothing you didn't learn in school. He preferred talking about his childhood in Boston and how safe Boston is now compare to the 80's and 90's. Don't waste your time or money on this tour. Buy a 7 day ticket for the T and do the freedom trail; you'll likely save money and learn more. read more

Glad I didn't pay full price. I'll start with that. One of the bus drivers had a bad attitude and chastised a lady for making a brief comment to her friend. I didn't see a sign that said " no talking". I also didn't see a sign that said " asshole tour guide". It was one of those hop on, hop off buses so we did that a few times. The other tour guide didn't point out too many things. Kind of a bummer. Take the other buses. The red ones. Their buses came by the stops regularly so there is obviously more of them. I always appreciate hop on/off buses when I'm traveling. I think it's the best way to get an overview and "feel" of the city. I personally purchased the groupon and processing was super easy. Yes you can purchase it at their kiosk which I hear that they always have some promotions so I'm not sure how much you're really saving. As far as the tour, the 2 different guides we had were both very informative and entertaining. My only concern was that the trolley's were a lil older and our first car had some brakes issues which was a lil concerning but eventually it worked. I appreciated that our tour guide even took us right at 4pm when they're closing and offered to do the whole route. Perfect for jumping on board from the cruise port. Biggest bang for your buck. Jump on and off from any of the nine convenient stops or just go for the entire ride. They touch a lot on the same stuff the freedom tour touches on because it's almost entirely along the same route. Every stop has trolleys passing through every 3-6mins. We never felt stranded throughout our experience. Eddy was our absolute best and favorite out of all the drivers. The guy simply shot out machine gun speed facts throughout the entire ride and is comical even by mistake at times. The man was absolutely hilarious. Really made you feel like you were with a close friend learning about the city and all the amazing history that has taken place there. With a groupon promo code we paid $28 total for two. But it generally runs for $35.00 without groupon $17.50 per person. read more

Seats were very uncomfortable. We had one tour guide during the day who was a complete jerk. He yelled at the passengers for talking softly to each other then went on a big long speech about how disrespectful people are. I would definitely NEVER use this service again. We got a bit of a deal on our tour, buying the tickets on Groupon instead of direct. That saved a few bucks. Boarding at the Aquarium stop, we rode the train a good bit around downtown and through the North End. The tour guide was interesting and humorous, providing a good detail about some stories I'd not heard before. For our first stop, we disembarked at the USS Constitution and reboarded about two hours later. We could see the trolley leave and then another one arrived almost ten minutes later as promised. Cityview does not have as extensive a tour as some of the other trolley tours. It's A-OK, but not awesome. read more

Trolly guides were friendly and informative but wait between trolly at stops is very long compared to Old Town trolly. We saw many of these go by as we waited for ours. Waited between 20-40 minutes at stops. At one stop driver says trolly was full. Only 4 of us waiting to get on (we had waited at least 25 minutes at this point.) We saw space on the trolly. Ppl could have moved to make room and a stroller took up a whole row. Plus a bench near driver. One couple just left and walked to their hotel. We considered getting an Uber. We took a walk and ended up at another stop. Waited there a long time too. Once you're on its nice just be ready to wait! read more

STAY AWAY EXTREMELY RUDE. It was My wife, my 2 year old and my six year old. After about 4 stops the driver forced us off the trolley. He said my kids were ruining everyone else's tour. My kids are not saints but that type of behavior towards a family is not ok. The company did issue refunds but were once again rude and accusatory towards my family. Dear Mike, I am the "young adult" who the driver was referring to when she lied to you. I am 43 years old and was on the bus with my 13 year old daughter, older sister and veteran brother in law. Attached you will find the picture I took of the car that I gave a thumbs up to when we passed. My arms were no further out of the trolley than any other time I took a picture. You can see in the attached photos that they are taken at the same distance as any other photo that I took. Clearly not a safety issue. I, in no way, was yelling out the side of the trolley either. As for interrupting her "tour" my daughter was excited to see the converse building and turned around to say she just got converse sneakers. Again, not yelling. No other patron complained. Your driver was so loud, it was hard to miss anything she said. Including when she then said, clearly to my excited child "Well now I've completely lost my train of thought. I can't remember what I was going to say. Keep it down. Conversations should be kept to a minimum". Which I found entirely rude. She took a fun family day and made my child uncomfortable in a moment of happiness. So tell her thank you. Also, the "snickering and laughing" happened when we were stuck at a detour where she said "there's a detour because there was a tragedy here yesterday" to which the whole bus said after a few moments of her silence "what happened?" Because we thought she was waiting for us to ask. The ENTIRE BUS asked 3 times...so yeah, I laughed because it was kind of funny and uncomfortable her ignoring an entire bus of paying customers. I have a nervous laugh, so her unprofessional behavior around my daughter kind of set it off. Which she then directly called me out saying "are you laughing? It was a tragedy!" A tragedy which again she still hadn't told us what happened. Only after her publicly "scolding" me for my nervous giggle did she tell us there was a fire and no one was hurt. This hop on hop off is horrible. We used their service today. Twice we had Hugo as our driver. He was so unprofessional. He did not know his history of the area and was more interested in telling jokes (sometimes off color) about wherever passengers were from. He ran multiple red lights and at one point cursed over the microphone. I am glad that Groupon had a coupon and I didn't have to pay full price. If you actually want to learn about the area around you, do yourself a favor and use their competitors. read more

8/26/18 at 4pm Trolly Driver that goes by name coach was extremely rude to families with kids. Mom and Dad has a 2 year little girl that was talking to her mom. The Driver kept saying it is rude to talk in a narrative trolley where he should be the only one talking. He asked if anyone had their CDL because he was done driving and wanted to get off. I think he should get off and find a different job. He kept telling the family they should get off the bus and when they were getting off he told the family they were rude and to never go on the bus again. I video taped his conversation and thought what if that was my child or grandchild and was told that. I hope the owner of the cityview reads this and have a talk with that driver if he wants to be in public service. He was RUDE!!!! read more

Cityview Trolley Tours was truly a disappointment. This is the silver trolley bus tour not to be confused with Old Town Trolley the orange and green trolley bus service. We thought we had purchased a Go Boston Card through groupon featuring on and off Old Town Trolley...it was not it was Cityview. First this trolley's seating was so narrow my wife and I had to sit in different seats. Secondly it was cold and windy so the clear plastic canopies were down to keep us warm. Problem: you could neither see clearly or photograph through it. Stops / Points of Interest comparison between the two tour companies...sadly Cityview only offered about half as many stops as the better competitor Old Town Trolley. We got off at the New England Aquarium stop only after 15 minutes and used Lyft for the rest of our day trip. I do believe that this company somewhat misguides you on the groupon offer because we both thought we were on the other trolley tour until we arrived. Disappointing. Do your own research. But look closer at the fine print than we did! read more

We bought a deal for two at Groupon which I thought was great. It says unlimited hops on and off throughout the day. I was with my husband and my 4 year old daughter for our first time visit to Boston. We completed the tour without getting off the bus then once we got off at the last stop, we decided to hop on again so we can get off the next station to explore the North End. The guy checking the tickets didn't let us hop on again, he said that once we got back to base that was it for the day! I tried to explain but he won't even listen. This is such a scam! I wasted my money on this thinking we could do unlimited hops on and off. We ended our day trip pretty quickly because my 4 year old got very tired from walking! We had family in town and were looking a good tour around Boston. We have done a few in the past that were ok. We happened upon this tour and could not have been more pleased! EJ was our guide and honestly is the reason we did not get off the tour bus. He was very knowledgeable, funny and entertaining! Well worth the price of the tickets! They claim they come to every stop every 15 minutes it's been an hour and there's been 2 buses that have come. They have no room to pick us up so we are waiting on the side of the road instead of enjoying a tour around the city. Do not take this trolly, it's worth $15 more to take the Old Town Trolly which has stopped 4 times as often. We walked 20 minutes to the next stop instead. This is unacceptable and enraging to be lied to and scammed of our money and wasted entire afternoon waiting for empty spots on a bus that were promised to us (called in to headquarters) and then weren't available for us. I live in Boston (born& raised), therefore, have never been on a tour. While I was crossing Charles st this afternoon, I was still in the crosswalk (with 2 toddlers, my 5 year old daughter & her friend) when the driver began rolling toward us. He was within 5 ft of us & kept rolling. He had a bus full of customers!! He then berated us for not teaching our kids the "right way" to cross the street!! Don't use this service!! What a fun way to see the city! Great price on Groupon. Nine stops, clean trolley. We had three different drivers because we hopped off and on. All drivers were great, but two of them were spectacular. The drivers are smart and witty, making the tour fun. A harbor tour was also included, and that was my husband's favorite part of the trip.
