AN ABSOLUTELY MUST DO 4 & 1/2 STARS. A SIGHTSEEING TOUR ON WATER OF BOSTON ON A PIRATE SHIP!…read moreGoldstar has Discount Tickets for this Water Adventure. If you are a Fan of those Pirate movies then you've got to experience the Real Thing! The tour combines fun interesting facts about the history of Boston plus they show you many points of interests both past & present still standing in the city. They even throw in some Pirate stories as well like Sam Bellamy & The Widdah. The crew is all dressed in Pirate attire so you really get the whole Pirate experience. We had Captain Mckinnon & Captain Mead. Both Kids & Adults will like this nautical adventure in the 7 Seas. They even let the kids help hoist the sails. This is Great to put on a future resume - Yup I helped sail a Pirate Ship. LOL! It gets chilly on the seas so bring an extra jacket. They also have Free Blankets they pass out if you're cold. You'll pass by The TD Garden, The Zakim Bridge, The Old North Church, The Seaport Area, Legal Seafood, The Rebook Headquarters, Logan Airport, The Charleston Navy Yard, The USS Constitution & many other sites. You'll definitely get heads a turning cruising in the Pirate Ship by other boaters along the route who will give you a wave. There is a rest room below the deck. It used to be, you had to have mega bucks & be really rich to have the Good Life, not anymore. The Game has changed. You've been Upgraded. Now You Can Live Like a King on a Limited Budget!

The trip alone is worth more than $55, so the additional food was just a bonus. Based on the menu I saw online, I was expecting a 3-4 course meal, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the dining experience was buffet style. This meant we got to sample a lot of the delicious food! My favorites were the salmon and the chicken, and for dessert, I really enjoyed the peach cobbler (not pictured) because I couldn't resist devouring it before snapping a photo. When the buffet first opens, people rush to the line and it gets a bit crowded. My tip: let the hungrier people go first to avoid the claustrophobia. We also purchased a margarita for two, which was so huge that the three of us couldn't finish it! We even got a margarita mug with the City Cruises logo as a souvenir. There was a DJ playing cool music while we ate, and the servers were fantastic, bringing us drinks and quickly removing empty plates. The best part was undoubtedly the nearly 3-hour cruise around Boston, where we got to see a lot of landmarks. My family loved it, and it will definitely become a tradition whenever they visit Boston.

The boat itself was very big and had three levels. The inside of the boat felt a little on the older side, but I don't think that mattered much since I was outside looking at the water most of the trip. I found the people onboard incredible knowledgeable about the different species of whales and locating the whales. I was able to see multiple whales or see them jump out of the water multiple times. It was really exciting each time a whale was spotted and there was always a rush from one side of the boat to another when one was spotted. I didn't try any of the food onboard, but they had the typical snack foods.

For starters, I upgraded my experience and paid for priority boarding and a window seat. It would have been ideal for them to have a priority boarding section. Instead I walked to the front of the line and ask the staff member how I should board and he said to just wait there. It felt a bit weird making it look as if I was simply cutting in front of everyone else who had been waiting in the cold for a long time. But honestly, I didn't feel too bad because, heck, they could have paid for the privilege too! Once onboard, the yacht was nicely decorated and having the window seat was worth it for the views. They put tables a bit too closely together for my liking, but it didn't make a major negative to the overall experience: The crew were all very nice and the service was pretty good. The drinks were delicious, from the after hour coffee and whiskey beverages to their spin on the old fashioned (added kola sugar and rum for a Caribbean themed variation). The crab and shrimp dip I ordered was also fantastic and I wished they provided extra bread or perhaps some chips to go with all the leftover dip in the bowl. I got champagne too as a part of a romance package, and that too was very nice. As for the thanksgiving buffet? Meh. The stuffing was bad, the macaroni and cheese was okay, the turkey was fairly good albeit a tad dry, and the salmon was solid. And when you were finished with the mediocre-at-best meal, there was time to take in some line dancing with the live DJ. Overall I really enjoyed it and will take another cruise with them some day. I just will temper my expectations relative to the meal!

Thank you again to everyone that made that night so perfect! We want to give a special shout out to our event coordinator, Kaitlin. We initially had two separate venues for our wedding. We planned to have just the reception on the Henry Longfellow, while the ceremony takes place in Boston. It was only a month out from our wedding day, when our ceremony venue fell through and we had to scramble to find an alternative solution. During that stressful time, Kaitlin did an amazing job working with us to combine our ceremony and reception on the Henry Longfellow. She was comforting, accommodating, and a joy to work with. We couldn't have planned our wedding without her! The absolute best!!! Sincerely, Brian & Katy

a BYOB Brews Cruise around Boston Harbor?! Yes, please!…read more Cycleboat Boston, based in Charlestown, is a family-owned company providing both public tours and private charters for up to 20-26 guests. Each boat has a central table with ice-filled coolers that is surrounded by 12 bike seats for passengers to pedal to power the boat but don't worry! You don't have to pedal, there is an outboard motor. And if pedaling isn't your thing at all or there's more than 12 of passengers, each boat has a comfy lounge area in the back that is set up for conversation, sipping on your drink and drinking in the views! All cruises are BYOB (cans only and no hard alcohol - a craft beer lovers dream) and you can also bring food/snacks on board! For our cruise, we enjoyed charcuterie cones from Kured.co and Scuba & I obviously had to bring along some on-theme beers including Cushnoc Brewing's 'Can't Buy Backbone' IPA, Wormtown Brewing's Summer Ale and a pounder of Montauk Brewing's Summer Ale (all purchased at Dion's in Waltham). As someone who is happiest in/on/near the water with a beer in hand and has so much pride in my city; this was a dream! I am actively looking for any excuse to get back out on a Cycleboat!

Turns out the Duck Tours were tours in semi-aquatic buses that mix history, jokes, and sightseeing. We also got to go into the water and folks took turns driving the duck boat. What was delightful about our tour was our captain who entertained us with magic tricks, punny jokes, dad jokes, and history. We quacked at passerbys, other duck tours, recent graduates, kids in hi-vis vests. He pointed out the marines organized in a park with the Osprey and other planes. I left my knowledge of American history in elementary school, so everything was super fascinating to me. I thought my honey would enjoy this being a historian and all but he didn't care for the jokes, which I thought were the best part. Oh well. Worth a tour when you're in the Boston area!

When I took my kids on the tour in 2019, I was so impressed with the professionalism of the attendants who help out beforehand. They were all wearing khakis, had their shirts tucked in, and there were no phones in sight. I remember one lovely young man who was wearing a Vineyard Vines belt and my son was obsessed with it, and he graciously told me what the print was called and I was able to purchase it for him for Christmas that year. This time around, it was shocking to me how opposite our experience was pre-tour. I recall in 2019 receiving a warm welcome walking up to the boarding location, but not this time. They were all huddled in a pile by the umbrella, and no one greeted us. I approached an employee who identified himself as a driver and instead pointed me to an attendant who could "better assist". When I asked which boat to board, we were rudely told to "Just wait here until we announce it", which felt like a big departure from the friendliness of a few years ago. The attendants themselves just looked messy, and it seems the standards went down significantly. We had so much fun on the tour itself, but the end to end of an experience is really what makes or breaks it, and the bad customer service before boarding left a sour taste in our mouths.
