We did the small group freedom trail. Our guide Shawn was amazing. He is so knowledgeable and his enthusiasm made the entire tour very entertaining. I feel like we got to see more than some of the larger tours you see. I highly recommend.

Loved our Freedom Trail tour with Zoe S. She did a wonderful job bringing history to life. She was very knowledgeable and a great storyteller. She was also great about finding our group some shade whenever we paused at a stop to learn more. The tour was 2.5 hours and perfect! Pace was good. We went on the tour with our two teenagers who also enjoyed the tour. Highly recommend.

Our tour was fantastic! We could have done the Freedom Trail on our own, but it would have been tedious to look up the historical facts that our tour guide, Jon, was able to share with such knowledge and authority. He really knows his stuff and didn't have to refer to notes or a script. He was fun, easily answered questions, and made the Freedom Trail come alive. Highly recommend!!

Cal was our tour guide and she was amazing. She was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. She seems very passionate about her job and made it very enjoyable. The best part for us was that she knew a lot of different locations to get better pictures than other tour companies. Thanks again Cal!!

Excellent tour! Kaitlin was a walking encyclopedia and should be on Jeopardy! I HIGHLY recommend this tour. Well done!

Kaitlin was phenomenal. I'm a retired teacher and she knew more than I did! I highly recommend this tour. It's beyond informative and well worth the price.

Rosalie did absolutely amazing retelling history and keeping all of us tourists safe while we navigated Boston's Freedom Trail tour. It gave me a lot of appreciation for our country's history and founding! Also loved the food recommendations that locals go to.

Great tour of the Freedom Trail. Our guide Maura was fantastic, So enthusiastic and informative, and she really connected with our 14 year old daughter Natalia.

guide - Drew - was great! He managed to cover a lot of history in a short amount of time. His narrative was fun, energetic and educational. I liked that the group was limited to 16 people so that we could all hear him without the need for earbuds and we were able to ask questions easily. So glad I chose this tour!

It's a dynamite experience from a guy who is not only a local, but I am pretty convinced he's the unofficial mayor of the neighborhood based on the number of people who said hello (and other stuff unsuitable for small children or church) to him as we walked the narrow streets. Now this tour may not be for everyone, as the title of the tour alludes to.. but if you don't mind the random swear word and aren't easily offended, you'll be like me... cracking up for 3 hours straight. And there was one thing I noticed about Anthony that he doesn't advertise, and may try to track me down for saying on here.... But beneath the gruff exterior was the sweetest guy that seemed genuinely interested in sharing his culture, stories, and amazing food with everyone! We started off at a pizza joint where we got a slice of pizza and an arancini ball. I expected the pizza to be good... and it was fantastic. But I am not a huge fan of arancini and this one had peas in it... also something I am not a huge fan.... But hey, I was on a food tour so I was going to try everything! Thank goodness I did, because this arancini was the stuff of dreams. How in the world could something be THAT much better than what high end Italian restaurants advertise? The last time I had an arancini ball was at a restaurant in Hawaii that won "best Italian food in Hawaii".... And it was only so-so. This arancini ball would make me fly 5,000 just to eat it again! Next up was a deli sub, a coffee shop, ravioli, a pastry shop and lastly an affogato (or gelato if you didn't want coffee that late in the day). Based on the food I received, before factoring in all the stories that Anthony shared, I feel the tour was really underpriced. I wish I hadn't done this the tour on my last day, I would have gone back for another round of everything we tried, as well as everything that was recommended. Heck I may have signed up for the tour again just to experience it all over again!

Our guide, Jake, met us a bit early in the appointed spot. He handed us the ghost plushies we bought (a nice souvenir) and the EMF meters we rented, and since there were only four of us on the tour, he began early. I didn't find him very engaging and felt he was going for "jump scares" when telling the stories. Since it was evening, we could only stop outside or across the street from places we visited (except for the Boston Common, where we met). I did like the three extra stories on the extended tour. I recommend not renting the EMF meters, as we weren't really encouraged to use them. It seems Jake forgot about them as soon as he gave them to us. I turned them on a few times, but didn't get much of a result. It is a fairly short tour; we began around 7:45 and were done by 9:15. Wear comfortable shoes. You will be doing quite a bit of walking, including up a hill (that Jake joked was the scariest part of the tour). Whether or not you take the extended tour, you end up in a different location, so be mindful of that. It's not a must-do, but if it works with your schedule, it's a nice way to spend an evening.

The tour is inexpensive ($5) and the house is gorgeous, with period furnishings mixed in with modern recreations. I would presume that the tour groups are typically small because it's not one of those "must-see" locations. Even so, it's right next to the Common (across from the Frog Pond), just a couple hundred feet from the State House so the location is very easy to find. Take the T to Park Street, for example, or park in the garage under the Common. The tour itself was led by a very friendly guide. Most of the tour seemed to focus on architecture or, more specifically, how the home changed over the years. I was not entirely interested; what usually drives me to visit a historic house is the person (or people) connected to it. In this case, I heard very little about William Hickling Prescott (a well-respected historian who was nearly blind) - up until the end. Inexplicably, there also was a focus on the American Revolution and how Boston was made up of landfill (neither aspects were relevant to this house). My guess is they were catering to the out-of-towners. Ultimately, I wouldn't call the Prescott House a hidden gem. But, it's worth a visit for folks that don't mind taking a few steps off the Freedom Trail (after all, there's more to Boston than a red line).

Was investigating Boston…read moreFreedom Trail tour options online and was given a link on bostonusa.com after being redirected from thefreedomtrail.org site, while preparing for our first family visit to Boston, MA. Apparently COVID-19 has suspended all Freedom Trail Foundation led tours at the moment (summer 2021) so was looking for something to engage our kids' interest while we walked Boston's Freedom Trail. Let's face it... just walking and looking at the Freedom Trail will be absolutely boring to most kids. Tour guides in normal clothes & just talking to us... PASS! Donning historically accurate clothing and talking with an accent, and website claims of "good at engaging young people"... HUZZAHHH! Winner, WINNER! Setting up the tour over the phone was not difficult at all. Phone calls were returned promptly. Donald Watson was the point man for organizing the details of our jaunt on The Trail. We were even allowed to alter the start time to facilitate additional commitments later in the day. Flexibility! Thank you!! When the Freedom Trail day arrived, we finally met Mr. Watson in person, and he was quite the cheery chap! Donned in clothing that was circa 1776 and sportin' an accent that was easily understood. He took the role of Sons Of Liberty member James Otis. Allowed us some time to finish our on the run breakfast too, before starting our tour at the Boston Common Visitor Center. We confirmed everyone was COVID-19 vaccinated, so... Everyone ready?!? YES! And off we went! Good pace to the walking tour, never felt rushed, always waited for everyone to catch up before talking, answered all questions with an obvious depth of knowledge! Had us all yelling "FIE!" And "HUZZAH!" throughout the tour as we hit 11 of the Freedom Trail sites. We finished at Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market, all VERY happy our experience, all exuberantly saying "FIE!" when Mr. Watson announced "We've reached the end our tour." HAH! All the families wanted to get pictures with Mr. Watson, cuz we "kinda" enjoyed our jaunt with him way too much ;) VERY EASY RECOMMENDATION! As a comparison, we also took the Boston Duck Tour and this was FAR MORE enjoyable for our party of 12, age range 12-52. Enjoy! We sure did! :)
