Our guide, Jake, met us a bit early in the appointed spot. He handed us the ghost plushies we bought (a nice souvenir) and the EMF meters we rented, and since there were only four of us on the tour, he began early. I didn't find him very engaging and felt he was going for "jump scares" when telling the stories. Since it was evening, we could only stop outside or across the street from places we visited (except for the Boston Common, where we met). I did like the three extra stories on the extended tour. I recommend not renting the EMF meters, as we weren't really encouraged to use them. It seems Jake forgot about them as soon as he gave them to us. I turned them on a few times, but didn't get much of a result. It is a fairly short tour; we began around 7:45 and were done by 9:15. Wear comfortable shoes. You will be doing quite a bit of walking, including up a hill (that Jake joked was the scariest part of the tour). Whether or not you take the extended tour, you end up in a different location, so be mindful of that. It's not a must-do, but if it works with your schedule, it's a nice way to spend an evening.

Signing up for the tour was easy enough though I don't really like the idea of paying the (optional) fee via PayPal. For some reason when I did that in New Orleans, it automatically created a new PayPal account for me, based on the email address I used. (Even though it says you don't need a PayPal account...) But this time when I attempted to use the same email to pay, it just wouldn't go through despite resetting the password and what not. Ended up asking hubby to pay with his PayPal. Quite a hassle. Other than that, our guide, Brian, was hilarious and passionate about educating us and I had a great time. We took the tour on Mother's Day and half of the 25 or so customers were from Europe. I think maybe there is a little language barrier as not everyone laughed at Brian's jokes. Plus it was a super windy and cold day and some just wanna go back to bed I guess. The tour was about 1 hour 45 mins. It really didn't walk far, maybe 1-1.5 miles. But I truly enjoyed the story telling. Highly recommend.

David's appreciation for food made the tour that much better. We were definitely ready to eat some great North end food by the end of the tour. Best F&@king Tour Ever…read more.. Anthony's the Man. Too many tours are polished and feel like they were written by someone sitting in an office in another city. Anthony would hate those guys. From the very beginning, Anthony makes you feel like you're on a ride along with a guy from the neighborhood, and the tour is great because of that. His humor, his observation, and his experiences in the North End give the tour character, and damn is it fun! The food is fantastic: every stop was local and fresh; the Italian Sub at Monica's is a work of art. Thanks to Anthony for a a real treat! Book this f$&king Tour!!!

Now this tour may not be for everyone, as the title of the tour alludes to.. but if you don't mind the random swear word and aren't easily offended, you'll be like me... cracking up for 3 hours straight. And there was one thing I noticed about Anthony that he doesn't advertise, and may try to track me down for saying on here.... But beneath the gruff exterior was the sweetest guy that seemed genuinely interested in sharing his culture, stories, and amazing food with everyone! We started off at a pizza joint where we got a slice of pizza and an arancini ball. I expected the pizza to be good... and it was fantastic. But I am not a huge fan of arancini and this one had peas in it... also something I am not a huge fan.... But hey, I was on a food tour so I was going to try everything! Thank goodness I did, because this arancini was the stuff of dreams. How in the world could something be THAT much better than what high end Italian restaurants advertise? The last time I had an arancini ball was at a restaurant in Hawaii that won "best Italian food in Hawaii".... And it was only so-so. This arancini ball would make me fly 5,000 just to eat it again! Next up was a deli sub, a coffee shop, ravioli, a pastry shop and lastly an affogato (or gelato if you didn't want coffee that late in the day). Based on the food I received, before factoring in all the stories that Anthony shared, I feel the tour was really underpriced. I wish I hadn't done this the tour on my last day, I would have gone back for another round of everything we tried, as well as everything that was recommended. Heck I may have signed up for the tour again just to experience it all over again!

Maria was our tour guide and she was fantastic! He was able to carry on a conversation with her about random details and thoroughly enjoyed himself! The other members of our group who weren't as big of history buffs still really enjoyed the tour with all the little touches! We are traveling with my mother to celebrate her 70th birthday and her first visit to the East Coast, so this trip is especially meaningful to us. From the moment we met BJ, he understood that this wasn't simply about seeing Boston's famous landmarks, it was about creating a special experience and memories together as a family. BJ was absolutely fantastic. His knowledge of Boston and its history was impressive, but what truly distinguished him was his personality. He was warm, funny, patient, accommodating and genuinely interested in getting to know us. Within a short time, it no longer felt as though we were spending the day with a tour guide; it felt like we were exploring Boston with a friend. He tailored the experience to us, never made us feel rushed, and shared stories and details that brought Boston to life. Eight hours together could easily feel like a very long day, yet ours seemed to fly by. By the end of the tour, BJ had made us fall in love with Boston even more. What impressed me perhaps most of all was that his hospitality didn't end when the tour did. After dropping us off, BJ continued reaching out to family members to find restaurant recommendations for us, including Chinese food and ramen, simply because those were things we had talked about during our day together. That kind of thoughtfulness cannot be taught from a tour guide handbook. It comes from genuinely caring about the people you're hosting. BJ has a natural gift for connecting with people and making them feel welcome. We look forward to reconnecting with BJ the next time we're in Boston, and I will gladly recommend him and Boston Hidden Gems to family and friends visiting the area. If you're considering a private tour of Boston, ask for BJ. You won't simply see Boston, you'll experience it with someone who genuinely loves sharing it with you. Thank you, BJ, for giving us a day we'll always remember. Big bear hugs from San Francisco!

We were so lucky to be the only two people who kept our reservation despite the rain, and honestly? It made the experience even more magical. Paula customized the tour to our pace and preferences, and it felt like we were exploring with a friend who knows everything about the area. One unforgettable stop was Ristorante Saraceno, where we met Franco--the owner--who is an absolute joy to interact with. His warm hospitality, legendary food, and impeccable service made us feel right at home. Buon appetito, indeed! I've done food tours in several cities, but this was hands down the best one yet. From the cozy mom-and-pop spots to the authentic flavors and stories, it was a feast for all the senses. You can genuinely feel Paula's passion for this historic neighborhood and its people.
