I beaten in hundreds of Indian restaurants, and many have their own distinct charm. I love the food and ambience at this restaurant. It's big enough to go alone, with friends or with a group of friends. The food is vibrant looking. The flavours are delicious and inviting. Tonight, I am having the Murgh Irani, and the Dal Makhani. I have had these dishes before and have never been disappointed. A Murg is a chicken dish with cashews, cream, mushrooms and black pepper. They provide a handsome portion of white meat, and the sauce is velvety rich. It is by far my favourite dish here. I have never had it h this way at any other restaurant. Dal is a staple to many, but with the addition of red kidney beans, it becomes a hearty meal all in itself. It is made with black Dal as opposed to the milder yellow dal that appears on most menus. The best part for me is that I can eat such a meal and they can make it gluten free. Please be aware to ask about the pakoras if you have celiac disease. Even though they are listed as gluten free, and are made with chickpea flour, they share a deep fryer, so are not suitable for people with Celiac Disease. read more

I enjoyed every item we ordered... lamb biryani hit the spot with the right amount of spice, tender chicken tandoori... could feel the yogurt in the marinade so yum and delish, paneer was heavenly and all time kids favorite butter chicken was delight d the assorted nans , mango lassis and chai were great add ons to the meal. Had been meaning to come to this place for a while now, since it is known as one of the few good places to get Indian food in Hamilton. Came here with a group of friends who have already been to Sagarmatha a bunch of times (I still haven't). India village is a small, good-looking place in the downtown of Dundas. The aromas from this place are incredible, we were able to smell them a block down on the opposite side of the road. Between the four of us, we got 3 curries, one with the rice and salad platter, and some naan. We decided to get the Punjabi tadka masala which sounded like something unique and ended up being absolutely amazing and it was definitely as unique as we hoped...similar to karahi chicken but with more tomato. The saag josh (they don't have rogan josh) was also very good, with not as strong of a spinach flavor as one might think. For the third curry, we went with a safer choice, the shahi paneer, which was too sweet but reasonably flavourful. We asked them to make it spicy for which they added a whole bunch of green chili...strange way, but it did the trick. The naan was soft. Everything was served hot and tasted fresh. As someone who spent five years in the UK during grad studies, where eating Indian is the only way to eat well on a budget when dining out, I was ecstatic when India Village opened a restaurant in Dundas to complement their well-established hub around the corner in Ancaster village. I've enjoyed run-of-the-mill Indian fare in Wales and finer fare in some of the more posh places in London town and I have to say that India Village consistently ranks amongst the best. i can honestly say that I dashed in there to feast on opening night and have visited them at least once every week or two. There are several things that make India Village stand out. First, their naan is second to none. Unlike many other Indian restaurants in the Toronto or Hamilton regions, India Village has their own tandoor oven. The piping-hot naan goes straight from oven to table--moist and flavourful on the inside and oven crisp on the outside. Personally, I prefer the plain naan to savour the simple goodness of the bread although some of my Indian friends swear by the richness of garlic or butter naan. Second, their main dishes--I speak mainly to their meat dishes as I'm not a vegetarian and generally avoid things with cheese--are simmered slowly from scratch to fall-off-the-bone perfection. Seriously, whether you order their beef madras or lamb shahajani, which are probably my two favourite dishes with butter chicken coming in third, you can slide through the meat with a spoon or just pinch off tidbits with your naan. And, because everything is slow-cooked from scratch, the food has a genuine complexity to it that you'll never find in most other places between Dundas and Toronto (or London for that matter). Third, everything at India Village is customizable in terms of heat. While I personally prefer my dishes somewhere between "medium" and "hot," some of my other dinner friends are from .... how should I put this .... less diverse upbringings and thus prefer their dishes to be at a lower heat level. Thankfully that's not a problem for the helpful kitchen staff at India Village. And, as someone who has also dragged rather trepidacious Indian newbies to the restaurant, I can attest that the spice balance that they strike, while unquestionably authentic, is geared towards a more worldly palate than their name suggests ;) Oh, and fourth, they just got their liquor licence last week! That, of course, won't appeal to those who don't care for the odd dram or tipple. But, while I'm not a big drinker myself, I really do prefer a cold beer as an accompaniment to my curry over water or the sugary/fizzy stuff. Enjoy! read more

The restaurant is on the main strip in Dundas and there seemed to be a lot of parking around. I have not been here for dinner yet but friends say it a really treat. When I moved to Dundas, after living in Toronto for 13 years, the only thing I missed was the variety of ethnic cuisines that the big city offers. Around Christmastime, I saw that a new Indian restaurant would be opening up downtown right on King Street - I was elated! Being super pregnant and prone to serious food cravings, good Indian food needed to be easily accessible for me. Alas, this was not to be. I've given this place two chances, each time tasted 'off' and not very homemade tasting. The butter chicken sauce was very 'red' and didn't taste like any butter chicken I've had outside of a food court mall. Even a frozen entree made by President's Choice tastes better and more authentic than this version. Why were there raisins in this dish, I kept saying all night. The saag paneer was okay, nothing wrong there and I was fairly pleased with it. My second visit to this restaurant, I explained to the chef/owner that I was disappointed with my previous experience and that I was giving it another shot, hoping for the best. He seemed to be very concerned with my disappointment and was eager to win me over. The butter chicken was again not good and he ended up making me some dish that I've never heard of before (by accident) shahi paneer? when I really ordered saag paneer - perhaps he misheard me, but this shahi paneer was not my cup of tea. It was sweet-ish tasting and it had a lot of raisins in it as well! I hate raisins and I have never in my life had raisins in my indian food from anywhere before. The naan bread was not fresh and he insisted that I get the garlic naan because the butter makes the naan keep better for when I took the food home (I got take-out). The garlic, I suspected, was supposed to disguise the fact that the bread was not fresh or made in a tandoori oven properly and was supposed to disguise the fact that the dishes I ordered did not taste that great. I was ticked off that I had wasted $30 - again- on a take-out meal that I couldn't enjoy eating. Raisins??? NO. Food court level taste and quality. It made me miss Toronto so much. read more

So far in Hamilton right now, India village is the best Indian food experience I've had. The atmosphere is small, inviting and comfortable and the service is good. It is pricey so expect to pay well for this experience. All the dishes I ordered were very good. I tend order the same dishes at every Indian restaurant I go which gives me a point of reference to compare. Nice to come with friends, excellent to bring a date, would likely be okay to go by yourself as well if you're that kind of diner. This is my go to Indian food restaurant in Hamilton at this point that I am proud to bring other people to. I read another's review about the butter chicken being not very good. It looks like they use less cream in their sauce then perhaps others however I found it very good. Although being very full when we left no one felt that the meal sat heavy in their stomach which tells me that they perhaps use less heavy ingredients in their preparation. Yum yum read more

Tried india village in dundas for the first time. We were a party of four and ordered Butter chicken, saag paneer, chicken vindaloo, and lamb korma. We also ordered vegetarian pakora and samber lentil. The food was amazing. Ive seen their other reviews on foodpages and then saw this review from yelp and dont agree with my fellow diner. Our butter chicken was excellent as was everything else. Our naans were to die for. We had the butter and garlic naan. We also had the mango lassi and it was fresh and tasty. Ive been to many restaurants in Toronto, Montreal, and being from London, this restaurant is among the top ones. The service was excellent and presentation was exquisite. Simply the best restaurant in little ol' Dundas. The quality is top notch and the manager Nick goes the extra mile to prepare your food just how you like it. The menu is varied and not just your standard Indian fayre, the breads are magnificent, the Hula chilli starter to die for and now he's recently got his liquor license, what's not to like? We are regular visitors here and are always made to feel welcome, the portion sizes are huge and we often take home a doggy bag and enjoy it the next day. Best of the best! We love the Shrimp Tikka Masala and the Chicken Korma with side of Palao Rice - Perfect food. I always get hot sauce on the side and it is a bit on the expensive side for a small container of sauce ($1.25!) but it's still worth it. If they could lower the hot sauce price to (.99) then I think it would make more sense. Other than that - fantastic and highly recommended. Thank you India Village! read more

I work nearby and I pretty much go here weekly for their lunch specials. Their food is great and the service is very friendly. For dinner you get some pretty big portions so you really get some good value out of it. My only minor gripe is that the spice level can be a bit inconsistent sometimes. A medium spiced dish one day might be a bit more spicy on another, though personally I have a fairly decent spice tolerance and I don't mind this as much.
