The atmosphere, service and food was excellent. We ordered the meal for 2 to share which included 2 samosas as an appetizer. We chose the butter chicken as the meat dish & paneer with peas as the veggie curry. Upgraded to the garlic naan which was so hot, fresh and tasty which complimented the mains perfectly. Stayed at the Waterfront Hotel Burlington a few months back for work and wasn't entirely feeling the hotel restaurant's menu. Did a quick Google Maps view of the local restaurants, and decided to give Amaya Express a try. The reviews were quite good across the board (4.5/5) so I had a feeling that I'd be happy with the choice. I called in for a takeout order, and the guy answering the phone put me on hold for what seemed like 5-10 minutes. I put him on speaker and stayed on the line. He came back on after and apologized profusely for the extended wait, because he was being swamped with in-house orders. I called around dinner time, so it was an entirely plausible excuse. Most restaurants won't even apologize, so the fact that he seemed genuinely sorry about it went a long way. I ordered palak paneer, steamed basmati, and a lamb biryani. I skipped lunch because I flew in from the West Coast, and I was without food since the morning. The walk over to the restaurant was quick, and the food was ready when I arrived. He thanked me and apologized again for making me wait on the phone. You get a lot of food! Everything I ordered was packed to the top, so they definitely don't skimp on the food and make sure you're getting your monies worth. The food was piping hot, even when I got back to the hotel, and absolutely delicious. I ended up saving the other half for the next day. I'll definitely be returning to Amaya if I'm ever back in Ontario. read more

Ive had a lot of different indian food experiences from living in brampton, 'ssauga, Toronto and burlington. The decor is sleek and modern; the food the freshest and most balanced indian cuisine i ever had. The curry chicken was just right.. Spiced and sweet... The lamb even made my non-mutton eating spouse comment on how tender and flavorful it was.... The service was excellent and friendly... Amaya was a serendipitous discovery for us this evening... Update: Went again and tried the Chicken Tikka Masala (my benchmark for rating Indian restaurants) and this was probably one of the best I've ever had! So, I've upgraded my review! I'll be back for more! You'd think by the name that this is a "fast food" style Indian, sort of like the food court type restaurants in a mall. Thankfully, it is not! Located in downtown Burlington (which is a real plus for me since I can walk there), Amaya Express is a casual dining, modern restaurant. So, no tacky Taj Mahal oil prints, gold embellished everything, or crushed red velvet in sight! Although it looks like a "self-serve" go up to the counter and order your own food kind of establishment, it actually has exceptional table service. I ordered some wine (yep, licensed for beer and wine) along with the samosas, palak paneer (Indian cheese and spinach) and chana masala (chickpea masala). The samosas came out cut in half and already drizzled in the delicious tamarind sauce (although I would have preferred to "sauce" my own). It was very tasty. The one mistake our wonderful server did make was not asking us what spice level we would prefer for the curry. The palak paneer was very mild, but delicious (and could have been seasoned with salt a little more). The chana masala was a little spicier, but I would have preferred to ramp up the heat on both of them more. So was it my mistake for not stating, or the servers mistake for not asking? Who knows, but either way it was a delicious meal and I will definitely be going back for more. read more

I love Indian food and I really don't eat it often enough. I also love quaint downtown's and but don't venture out often enough. I ended up at Amaya's because of a work dinner, and our VP ended up choosing a bunch of things for the table to share. I was a little hesitant about this, but I guess he's VP for a reason. Everything we tried was great. Because I didn't order, I'm not quite sure what all we got, but I can say that EVERYTHING we tried was great. Service was good, they had a few beer and wine options. There is also a nearby parking lot, which is fantastic. I'll definitely be back out here soon. read more

The restaurant decore is simple, clean and casual -tasteful. Mood music played in the background which provided an uplifting atmosphere. The samosas arrived quickly and appealingly presented with an interesting twist in the drizzled tamarind and mint sauces. We ordered the Amaya Curry Shrimp, Black Pepper Chicken and the Green Beans. All of the food tasted great but the dish colours were too similar as were the flavours. The staff were friendly and I would definitely come back to try different things on the menu. read more

Best butter chicken I've ever had! I went in last night to grab an order to go. When I arrived at the cash counterI was immediately greeted by an extremely friendly young man, and then another gentleman was right behind him to take my order. He too was very professional and friendly. I placed my order of butter chicken (came with rice) and naan bread. There were 4 flavours of naan to choose from. I chose plain. The gentleman advised my order would be about 10 mins and that if I wished I could take a seat at a nearby table. Once seated, I was asked if I'd like a glass of water while I waited (wasn't forgotten or made to feel invisible like I've experienced at other restaurants in the past) I got home and took my dinner out and I was pleasantly surprised to see my rice was not white but delicious looking and smelling saffron with veggies and awesome other spices. The butter chicken looked as expected but WOW! It tasted amazing! Lots of big moist chunks of chicken and ample sauce. The portion was so big I had a large serving of both chicken/sauce and rice left over for lunch. I would absolutely return in the future. read more

This is a wonderful little spot in downtown Burlington. We ordered take out saag paneer, black pepper chicken, and like lamb and each dish was delicious. My wife and I have ordered pick-up from Amaya twice now and have been impressed both times. The black pepper chicken was delicious as were the vegetarian mains. Stopped in with my family on the way back to Toronto from a bike ride in Niagara. We ordered butter chicken, saag paneer &madras curry. Everything was great especially the saag! We've been twice to this place . First time was amazing and we were so pleased . Second time and ( first time using the washroom ) and it was deplorable . Absolutely deplorable. We tried the lunch for 2 with 1 veg starter- pakoras, 2 veg curry- asparagus kofta and saag paneer, 2 garlic naans and rice. Pakoras were different from traditional ones but were really tasty. Went to this place with my husband for our dinner date. We ordered and was told it would take half hour which was fine for us...time went by and it was almost an hour later we asked when our food was coming and we were told shortly waited another 10min finally it came. we ordered prawns and a full chicken and naans. he served us prawn and naans then 10min later or more our chicken came and it wasnt a full chicken as we ordered. the guy said thats half and left so thought the other half is on its way we finished most of our food and asked the other half the guy said they dont have full chicken! now we should have been told that at first! very slow service ,long wait, dont tell customer if something cannot be made.. it was very upsetting. the food was ok nothing so good. wouldnt be going again thought. read more

A favourite place of ours to eat in Burlington. No sloppy buffet, only well prepared and tasty food from the menu. At this particular lunch time the restaurant was very busy and the single server/busboy/host was run off his feet. Yet he was able to remain in good spirits, check all the tables as he went by and answer questions from new customers. Although the service was a little slow, it was not an issue. Fish Biryani and Butter Chicken were excellent. Well seasoned and left our mouths singing happy tunes. Naan, which can be a measure of quality at an Indian restaurant, is very good. We were a large group of runners who had reserved post the Chilly Half Marathon. The restaurant was warm and clean and the waiter was friendly and welcoming, he was also helped us order a wonderful mix of very tasty, nicely prepared dishes! ( one of my friends is ceiac so the gluten free dishes were all pointed out for us! ) We relaxed took our time eating the delicious food and chatting. I can't understand the five-star ratings. The food is mediocre at best. We ordered take-out of butter chicken and the chicken tikka masala. And side of 1 nan and 1 garlic nan. The butter chicken was nice but the chicken tikka masala was below average. The nan was a bit stretchy. The garlic nan was much better - the only item that we liked. The portion sizes were really small - only 4 medium pieces of chicken in the butter chicken floating in lots of sauce. I didn't enjoy the meal and found it overpriced. read more

I'm only giving them a one star because the food is mildly enticing. This is the WORST place to get food for so many reasons: 1) It is QUITE overpriced. You could go to way better places and get quality food without the snarkiness of the staff who stand behind their ridiculous prices and the fact that their menu is superbly unclear...like that is normal? 2) The dishes are 4 chunks of dry chicken and a whole lot of sauce... some people might like that but the catch is they don't include rice or naan with ANY of their dishes. So if you enjoy spoonfeeding yourself curry sauce out of a sad plastic container then this place is for you. If I am paying you $50 for three dishes, you can probably afford to throw in rice that costs you 50 cents to make. 3) They took over an hour to deliver to an address that is literally within walking distance and they charged a $5 delivery charge and expected a tip- to the most unfriendly man who scouled at my door and handed me a sad folded brown paper bag. It's awful. Don't do it. read more

Every time I visit home, my sister and I make a point to have a meal here. The pakoras are delicious, the butter chicken melts in your mouth. We've never had a bite that wasn't perfect. DW and I were in Burlington from Niagara and having been to Amaya in Toronto, were happy to give this one a shot for lunch. Modern decor (no pictures of the Taj Mahal!), clean and sleek. We had pakoras and samosas to start (brining some home) followed by Butter Chicken and Lamb curry, with rice and naan. The food was excellent, well cooked and well presented.
