The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was great. My husband and I went for the lunch buffet around 12:30. It looked like the food had been sitting awhile. I'm not sure how often they change out the food. The butter chicken and garlic naan was really good though. The sauces were fresh and so were the vegetables. The curry chicken tasted a little watery. Next time I won't come for the buffet but order off the menu. I do recommend the butter chicken and the garlic naan. read more

I haven't been here in a long hot minute, Well actually about a year ago. I dropped in recently for the weekday all you can eat lunch buffet. It was pretty good! Nice selection of dishes. Located near the corner of 19th Street on Capitol Ave. The buffet was priced at $20.99. Some of you may ponder if that was worth the price. Well let me tell you the buffet options were diverse. The food was tasty. Competitive pricing with neighboring eateries. Considering all of that, I thought the value was there. The gentlemen working there were gracious and welcoming. I asked if the restaurant had new owners, which they replied yes. They've been opened under new ownership for the past several months. They provide plain or garlic naans. They prepare it fresh and serve it directly to the table. I choose the plain. It was fantastic. It was a bit different than traditional naan. Delicious! Crisp bottom, with a slight prefect chew and softness. Gorgeous crackled top with kiss of melted ghee. The food trays were fully stocked and options were plentiful. My faves were the naan, potato dish, butter chicken, papadam, cheese curry, and dal. All were mildly spiced and nicely flavored. Tasty! Will return for another dosa. I think the dosas are better than some of the more typically ordered curries. Chicken was a little dry but the sambar is incredibly spiced and flavorful. Coconut chutney was half frozen. Service was friendly despite me showing up minutes before closing. I was informed of what time they close the dining room (9:20 pm) for a 10 pm restaurant closure. Bollywood on the tv with the music on added a nice touch, but I could see some not enjoying that. I'm sorry.... I actually feel guilty leaving only a 2 star review, as the people running the restaurant were quite nice and attentive. This may have been easy due to me being the only patron in the restaurant, but I digress. The food was typical of an Indian lunch buffet. I was excited to try the chicken korma...and....it was....ok, I guess? Kind of like a cream sauce covered chicken tender/nugget. The Tikka masala chicken was not that flavorful, perhaps some more seasoning needed....but it was also cold, even though eaten right after leaving the steam tray. The goat pieces in the curry were almost all fat....so I couldn't eat it. Disappointed, as I like goat. The naan was fresh, so that was a bright spot. Now then, the price. For a not great buffet with a CAN of soda, I paid $26 before tip. I don't know if I am paying for the midtown location, but definitely not for the food. New spot near the Capitol. Was craving butter chicken and some naan bread. Instead I got their buffet special during lunch. Absolutely amazing. I got their delicious butter chicken along with their lamb and tandoori fish. All perfectly made and balanced. The surprise was their their fish tikka masala, so good. They served table side freshly made garlic naan and it was perfect. I enjoyed a few cups of their fresh chai, great to sip on after that meal. Ambiance was on point and excellent for a solo lunch break. Service was top notch. They are really attentive and work hard to make sure you enjoy your experience. Incredible Punjabi style food. I've reviewed the comments and for those leaving bad reviews, truly don't know what they're talking about. I've traveled twice to Punjab and eaten a lot of homemade food. This restaurant is the best in Sacramento for the ingredients available! I have eaten both for the buffet and dinner dine in, it's amazing! For a buffet with so many meat options, it's a reasonable price and very flavorful. Of course, with all buffets (the few that are left) you cannot expect the food to be piping hot... it's been made in bulk and sitting there. Yet, it's still delicious! So please stop complaining about the buffet as this is exceeds the mediocre buffet in the area. Lastly, the costumer service is exceptional! Punjabi hospitality at its finest. $20 for AYCE buffet -- run over! If you like endless amounts of chicken, this is gonna be your favorite place! They also give you endless naan: plain, butter or garlic. There are lots of standard curries and of course plentiful vegetarian options too. I was surprised to see a fried fish option even. My favorite hack is to glob lots of tikki masala sauce over the tandoori chicken! Check out my video and pics for all of their dishes. I was able to find parking within 2 blocks arriving on a Sunday around noon. There weren't too many people dining here. The ambiance is cozy and the service was super friendly. Stopped in at India Gate Cuisine for a very early dinner (coming from the East Coast). Since it was 4:00 P.M. I was one of the only people there, but the server took care of me answering my questions, and providing a hot meal quickly. I got the Lamb VindaluThali. It's the Lamb Vindalu with a lentil dip, a garbanzo bean dip, a yogurt dip, naan along with the Lamb Vindalu with rice. I also got the Spiced Salt Lassi which was different (it is milk with a salty yogurt mixed in). The Lassi was okay, but the Lamb Vindalu was very tasty. A nice place. I would try it again. read more

We were very excited to try this place in its current iteration. We had some Uber Credits and they had a promotion on Uber Eats. We ordered the Rolls, fried cheese curds, the veggie pakoras, samosas, butter chicken, chicken biryani, and garlic naan. We loved how the containers were all wrapped in plastic wrap so there would be no mess, however, they forgot the garlic naan. Navigating the UberEats app to report a problem was quite the ordeal but eventually we sorted that out. The aps were a little greasy. The spring rolls were a little bland. The veggie pakoras and the Samosas were good but nothing to write home about. The chicken biryani and butter chicken were ok but nothing to write home about. We heated some flower tortillas to replace the naan. The whole experience was underwhelming and easily forgettable. This is a place with high prices and in my case high expectations. It's last iteration as Preethri ( unsure of spelling) was it was amazing but no one could pronounce their name and they kept a menu different in person vs delivery which was always confusing. 4/5 Came here twice for a team lunch and it was overall good for an AYCE lunch. It's about $20-$30 plus tip and meal. The AYCE menu has a varieties of India dishes and all the naan you can eat. Garlic naan...yes please. The food is pretty good from the chicken tandoori, samosa, tikka masala, butter chicken, saag paneer and much more. However, it was pretty warm when I dined in and the restaurant didn't have the AC on which made it somewhat difficult to enjoy the food when you are sitting there sweating. They welcomed us in a bit early. While we waited for the buffet to start, the lady served us hot chai. It was delicious. When the buffet started, my husband and I ate a bit of everything. The served fish and vegetable pakora, veggie biriyani, goat and chicken curry, spinach and lentil entrees, dessert, salad....they had a good selection. It was all delicious. The tables and chair setting were cute...not crammed. They played nice music. The lady and gentleman were very friendly. The lady checked on us a few times. MY GOODNESS! I don't live in Sacramento but if I did this would be my go-to Indian spot. This unassuming tiny storefront is hiding one of the very best Indian buffets in the country. Such unique flavors. Even in staple dishes like butter chicken and naan you can tell their chef is working some magic back there. We were on a late evening walk and I was hangry when we stumbled upon this jewel of a place on Capital Avenue. What a happy surprise! The place was empty as we came in about 30 minutes before closing on a weekday. Staff still welcomed us warmly and gave us our menus. What an epic selection! To start, we tried two sides. Papdum is very thin wafers made from ground lentils. Wonderfully textured and served with hot mint and sweet tamarind sauces. We also had Paneer Pakora with house made cheese served with lemon and onions. Incredible! All of it. We went with the Chicken Korma to get some protein. My husband said it was the best version of it he's ever tasted! I have to agree. The chicken was so tender it melted in your mouth. We will lose sleep over the chicken! Still, I was in the mood for tandoori chicken and garlic naan, so I decided to order à la carte. No regrets at all. The tandoori chicken was massive--fresh off the grill, still steaming, and packed with flavor. You could really taste the spices and the heat. It was perfectly cooked and served hot, not dry like at some other places. The garlic naan was just as good--soft, flavorful, and went perfectly with the chicken. Service was great--friendly and quick, but not rushed. The place wasn't too busy when I went, so the atmosphere was calm and quiet, which made the whole experience even better. I have been to this restaurant for around three years. Their seems to be a recent management change, and it went way donwhill. The food is tasteless. Rice seems like just reused of last night. They have a policy to reuse the plates. So, even if your plate is dirty, you have to get it back to buffet counter, yikes !! And if you order it as a thali (combo), you'll also get their secret weapon: a lentil daal with depth and richness that's immensely comforting and could rightly stand on its own as an entree. With a chickpea side, rice, and naan, the thali is tremendous value. Chicken Korma, with a creamy cashew sauce, is another strong dish. I'm surprised more people haven't discovered India Gate.
