Ordered once before, it did not go well, since I had spent over $100, I figured I let mgr know, he pretty much brushed me off...I did not go back cause I have other Indian restaurants on my side of town...he now posts an ad that there will be no more buffet cause there were not enough customers, I wonder why?? They are now offering thali's instead...so I thought to try out once more, stopped by, there was not a single customer at about 12, a red flag...I wanted to order 3 vege thalis, the problem I had was, he was short staffed & had a construction person/service person with paint or something all over his shorts at the counter & each time I had a question, he had to make a call....when I was kind of ready to order after some hesitation, I was told I could not do a take-away...wow, another person walked in, into the kitchen, picked up a dough rolling pin & walked out?? & cudnt help me either...only saying cause the guy taking the order was not Indian & had difficulty explaning..I drove that far & all restaurants offer whats on menu to go/door dash etc...so I left an unhappy camper & I will never go back...we have choices & if you don't want my money, totally fine, I will move on...I see the mgr argues back with people instead of taking constructive critisism.....again perhaps why you are slow!! read more

I'm a regular customer at Vijay's Kitchen in Sacramento and have been coming here for a long time. Normally, I enjoy the food and service, but today's experience was completely unacceptable. I ordered the Paneer Tikki Burger. When I was placing my order, I asked the employee what came in both the Paneer Tikki Burger and the Masala Burger. He said both come with patties. I specifically asked what each patty was made of -- he told me the Paneer Tikki Burger has a paneer patty and the Masala Burger has a veggie patty. I even asked if it was a garden patty, and he said, "No, it's a different veggie patty." He then asked me, "Paneer Tikki Masala?" and I said yes -- because that sounded like a mix of the two burgers I had just asked about, both of which he said came with patties. When I got home and opened the burger, there was no patty at all. Just lettuce and tomato -- nothing else. I checked the receipt, and I was charged for the Paneer Tikki Burger, so where's the paneer tikki then? I called the restaurant to explain the situation, thinking it was a simple mistake that could be fixed. Instead, the person on the phone argued with me, insisting the Masala Burger doesn't come with a patty -- even though I clearly stated I didn't order the Masala Burger. He completely ignored what I was saying. When I asked for his name, he refused to give it and continued to argue. I said I called to see if they could fix the problem, he refused. At that point, I had no choice but to hang up. For a place that I've supported as a regular customer, this was the worst experience I've ever had here. I had been here previously under a different banner. There is additional decor out side. The inside is very nice with an upscale flavor. The kitchen layout is fast foodish. The attendant greets you as you enter, same guy as before. I ended up selecting Chicken Tikka Masala. There was a dish I wanted, but forgot the name and I did not see it on the current menu. As I placed my order the waiter asked naan? Did he know my secret weakness?... Yes garlic naan. I entertained my self for 10 or so minutes watching the Hindi music videos. I was served modest portions, esp the rice. Good thing I ordered naan lol. It was good and flavorful. Above average experience. It doesn't seems to be a popular spot for some reason. read more

I've been going here for a very long time. The new owners did great by bringing back the buffet. The however, have missed the target on variety. This is the second time I've visited since the change in ownership and the buffet options are limited and unchanged. The owner did say they change it up but I did not get that. The quality of the options was pretty good. I'd give it a 6.5 of 10. The service was very friendly and the atmosphere felt authentic. I'll probably go back and hope for some different options. It was hands down the best indian lunch buffet in the sac. area (that I knew of), and a nice atmosphere as well. I went here again, It's now under new management. There's not as many dishes. The food is spicier. And thinner. Some of the (hot) food dishes they put out were cold. Some of it dried out. It was obvious that it had been made the previous day(s). Back then they had gulab jamun, now it does not. It's not nearly as good as Ruchi was. "Memories of days gone by..." Maybe it was an off day for this place; maybe due to being christmas day. I've been here a few times since it has been under new management (I drive all the way from Rocklin to eat here) I have always had a great experience with the food and the service. You can tell that this establishment is big on family because there are always groups of families spending hours eating, laughing and just enjoying themselves. This restaurant definitely provides that kind of ambiance. My absolutely go to is the spicy shrimp with rice. They do have different spice levels so that's nice. I dream about the shrimp!
