India Bistro is the highest rated Indian restaurant in this area, so of course, I had to check it out. Heads up: Be sure to go to their actual website to check for hours and see if takeout might be your best option. They have limited staff right now, so their hours are limited and they're limiting dine-in service. I was kinda nervous about this so I almost didn't come, but I'm so glad I gave it a shot. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like family. The mother took our order and I think we were checked on by two of her daughters. I overheard her saying that her husband is the owner/chef/cook. We had the samosas, garlic naan, butter chicken, chicken saag, and a mango lassi. My cousin loved it all and so did I. tl;dr - Long wait times for dine in but amazing food. Recommend take out. When my husband and I were in Plainfield for some errands we wanted to make sure we took the time to try this place - we had heard some really good things! When you first pull up you aren't even sure if it's open...and it's the same way when you walk in. The place was empty and no one was behind the counter. Someone finally came out and had us sit and took our order and then the wait began. From what we could see it seemed that there was only one employee who was working both the dining room, the phone, and the deliveries and we didn't hear back from her in so long we weren't sure if we were even going to be served. My husband finally asked and a few minutes later delicious and steaming how food was put in front of us. The malai kofta was super delicious. It was my first time trying it so I don't know how it compares to other restaurants but I would definitely recommend it. My husband had the lamb biryani and he said the lamb was very tender and flavorful. He also ordered his "hot" and he was so thrilled that it was actually spicy! Many times he doesn't even feel that Thai Hot is hot! We will definitely order from here again but probably won't dine in. read more

I can tell you I've been to several Indian restaurants over the years in multiple cities, and this one is one of my favorite places to eat. The food was well packaged and thoughtfully protected for travel. We have never had their vegetable pakoras and they are off the charts. They are like onion bhaji, but with veggies. Think an amazing hushpuppy/fritter combo. Their onion chutney is incredibly crisp and fresh. Aren't familiar with Indian flavors? I promise you will love it. If you are not sure what to order, look to samosas, chicken tikka kabob, veggie pakoras, and/or chicken tikka masala. If you don't want it hot, ask for "no spice/heat." Flavor doesn't mean heat. I was in the area for a meeting and looked up the nearest Indian Restaurant. India Bistro came up so I paid them a visit. Upon walking in the first thing I noticed is that while it's a sit-down restaurant it's counter ordering. Unique but thats fine. I ordered my food, paid my bill and waited. A little while later the food came out and was pleasant...not the most amazing Indian Food I've ever eaten but certainly above average. What set this place apart for me personally is the service and the people ( owners ) working there. I literally felt like family and the greeting and conversation I received while there was some of the most genuinely kind and warm interactions I've ever received in a restaurant. I always each lunch here anytime I am in the Avon/Plainfield area. I love simply everything about India Bistro. First, I really like that this buffet is served behind the counter. It is neater, cleaner, and so much more sanitary than the traditional buffet. I almost never go to traditional serve-yourself buffets, I don't like all the hands touching the serving utensils, kids touching the food items, etc. This style of serving also eliminates the huge amount of wasted food you see at other buffets. The servers pleasantly answer questions about ingredients so diners don't pile entrees onto their plates only to find out they don't care for something and end up wasting it. The plates are perfect! Large school cafeteria style trays with deep partition dividers so that your entrees stay separate and don't mix together. The food is excellent! I love everything I have ever tried here. I must admit that I don't know the names of all the different entrees but the servers are very helpful when I point out which ones I would like. Hurry Curry is a perfect idea for a quick lunch. Today they had six vegetarian entree options. With Hurry Curry I can try a little of each, and then go back and get more of the ones I like best. I have never been able to do that however, one trip through has always filled me up. The fresh, warm Naan bread is brought directly to your table. It is so good that I would come here for the Naan alone. Hurry Curry is also an excellent value. At $8.99 it is only slightly more expensive than a fast food value meal. I've sadly moved too far away to make it here often, but I have literally had dreams about their lamb saag with chili naan. The best people, a cool relaxed space to eat in, and, food I dream about. I still can't believe this place is hiding away just off US 40. It's hard to find a place where I am now that comes close to India Bistro. It's become my family's go to special occasion place whenever we're all in town because we love it so much! And despite there being a lot of us and usually having very big orders, they're always happy to see us and have things ready before we even get there for pick up.
