We stopped in for lunch while in the area as my son wanted some Indian food. Our waiter was ok - not overly friendly. We ordered the lamb biryani, punjabi chicken curry and the prawn vindaloo. We asked for the curry to be hot and the vindaloo medium spicy. We also ordered some nan. The food was just OK. The vindaloo was more on the sweet side - not your typical vindaloo. The prawns were fresh so that was good. The Punjabi chicken curry had a bit more spice and flavor. We thought this was the best dish. The nan was rather thin. The biryani was just ok. Spices were rather mild. Nothing really stood out as amazing but was edible. The view from the restaurant was just beautiful so maybe it made up for the mediocre curry? My usual spot for local Indian food was closed tonight, so we decided to give India Beach another go. I'm a local and first tried them when they opened years ago; I'm glad we returned because the food has significantly improved since then. The standout was the Baigan Bhartha--smoky, spicy, and silky. It was exactly how the dish should be, and I'd definitely order it again. The Butter Chicken had great flavor, though the sauce could be stepped up with a bit more cream. We also tried the Punjabi Chicken Curry; while the flavors were good, it lacked the "slow-cooked" depth I was looking for. Sadly, each of the chicken dishes had 5-6 small, lonely pieces of chicken swimming in a container primarily filled with curry. Accompaniments were excellent--the Onion Kulcha was the perfect balance of crispy and chewy with just the right amount of cooked onions generously stuffed throughout. The Rice Pilaf was very well-executed. I'd be open to trying them out again when I miss my mom's cooking, but don't have an entire afternoon to spend in the kitchen to devote to the time it takes to create authentic North Indian cuisine. But I hope they take this review as honest feedback and consider adding a reasonable/standard amount of chicken to their dishes. read more

Wow This place is near me and I finally decided to dine here tonight. I must say everything is tasty, flavorful , and yummy. I was surprised to see the business is not as crowded as the restaurant offers such delicious Indian cuisine. I like the decor and the restaurant is spacious and clean. Favorite date night spot. They have floor seating in a booth or regular seating as well. The food is all delectable and personal favorite is the saag paneer. What a great find on our vacation! We stumbled in after a long day of tourist sightseeing, and this place felt like a calm balm. I had some hot Chai and we ordered the Butter Chicken and the Tandoori Chicken. I have issues with seeds and can't digest them, so they were kind enough to make me some plain white rice instead of the usual which has (? cardamom) seeds in it. I give India Beach 4 stars overall for its extensive variety of vegetarian, chicken, lamb, and seafood entrees, ambiance, and service. The entrees were like a really solid cast while, surprisingly, the staples (rice and bread) were the weak supporting actors and were a far cry from what I've experienced at most Indian restaurants. The winning dishes included... Cheese pakora appetizer: Though lacking in presentation, this fried cheese in a crispy, non-greasy chickpea batter with tasty side sauces was excellent. Tandoori chicken: Tender and tasty Butter chicken Fish tikka masala Navratan korma: Though different from most other dishes by this name, it was nicely seasoned in a creamy sauce with vegetables and chopped nuts. The staples that were not up to par were... Basmati rice: This was surprisingly dry and seemed slighly undercooked, but was ok when covered in sauces from our entrees. Assorted nan: This included plain, onion, and garlic nan. All three were quite dry and needed to be dipped in sauces to be edible. Saag Paneer: 2.9/5 Doesn't have much flavor, but when you combine it with garlic or goat cheese naan it can taste pretty good. Lamb Byriani: 3/5 The meat was pretty tender and the white sauce made of yogurt gives it a nice touch. The sauce is good, but could be better. The rice itself lacks flavor. Cheese Pakora: 1/5 Ours were super dry and didn't taste like cheese. The goat cheese naan was my favorite. Kulfi: 3.9/5 Pretty creamy, and nutty when you eat it at the restaurant. The only reason India Beach has a 4+ star average rating is that there are no other Indian options in the area. This pales in comparison to pretty much any Indian restaurant in any more urban setting. Dry rice that has been sitting in the rice cooker too long, stale naan, some dishes slightly overcooked, yet the tandoori chicken was literally served raw, we pointed it out and they cooked it again. The saag paneer was quite a strange taste and consistency. They also were a bit annoying trying to upsell us on more food and dessert. This is a family just working to make a living, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't rate accurately. Mediocre food and an experience I wouldn't repeat. read more

I've been coming here for a while and the taste of this Indian food feels like home to me. Uncleji and Auntyji are always kind, waiter service is very kind, and we always have an excellent time here. This is my favorite Indian spot on this side of the bay and the one that I crave the most. From the samosas to pakoras to daal, raita and curries this place hits the spot and flavor is unmatched. Uncleji was kind enough to give us some free kheer and what he did not know is that I am missing my papa very much and my papa loves kheer.. a wonderful gesture I saw as coming from the Divine. The people and venue were nice enough, but this is the worst Indian food I've eaten since the cafeteria food in college. The pakoras were unbearably salty, the daal had no flavor, and the naan was hard and crunchy. I'd be embarrassed to cook this badly on a first attempt with a new recipe. read more

Great food and hidden gem in the Coast. Always on point and it's my go-to place for late night food since they are open till 10:30pm most nights. Did takeout here on a day trip 11-24-24. Was not crowded at all, only 2 people in there when I showed up, but the time I ordered until it was ready was about 30-40 minutes so not fast. I figured it would be worth the wait. When I ordered online, there was no way to order plain basmati rice so I had to order the rice pilav over the phone which is 4 dollars each in addition to the dish. They do not accept apple pay (or any tap), so best bring cash or plastic(or just order online and pay that way, unless you are eating there). They didn't provide any eating utensils I had to ask. They didn't provide any napkins I also had to ask(do they even do "to go" a lot)? There also wasn't any room in the to go containers to mix rice and the curry/tiki masala we ordered so we had to use makeshift containers in the car. Onto the food: From reading reviews I was under impression it was be bomb and yummy. It sure did smell good but my son and I were thoroughly disappointed. The Chicken tiki masala tasted like bland spaghetti sauce. Shame on them for making it flavorless. Even when getting something mild I expect Indian food to have some freakin flavor. My Veggie curry was ok. It also lacked flavor and reminded me of something that I can cook. The vegetables in it used were like soft mushrooms and I think eggplants which I'm not a fan of cause it doesn't have much substance. I ate it because I was hungry and so did my son but we saw a cat in the parking lot and offered it some of our chicken tiki masala and he went for it, which was good, so i hope it made his/her night more than it made ours. I would avoid this place and try somewhere else like the bbq place down the road or maybe the chowder house across the way. This place needs to step up their game and offer plain basmati rice, not some expensive pilaf with veggies in it, upgrade to touch ID(even Home Depot finally has that now!), and add some damn seasoning to their food which is supposed to be full of flavor! I'm a local and have had the chance to visit this restaurant on two occasions. The food was good the first time, which prompted me to return again. However, the service is lacking. On my first visit we'd made a reservation and arrived on time but was kept standing and waiting as there was only one front staff and he was busy taking a takeout order, which took quite a while to complete. During the entire time he was taking the order, he did not greet or acknowledge us at all. Today I made another reservation and arrived timely as well. We walked in and there was nobody around, except for one of the cooks standing outside the door, talking on his cellphone. Nobody came and greeted us so I rang the bell that was on the counter. I rang it 3 times; the 3rd time was with a double ring. Still nobody came to greet us. Finally I saw a staff entering at their back door and he glanced at us, but still did not acknowledge us. Until I spoke up and said hello. Finally we were seated and our order was taken. My husband and son ordered a Coke each and the waiter returned to ask if it was Diet Coke they wanted. We were the only table there :0! Then the waiter announced that they had only 1 Coke. Ok, so we had to change one to a Fanta instead. Both drinks arrived in a glass with no ice and I had already asked for ice for my water so I had to request for ice again. Finally the waiter arrived with a carafe of ice for us 3. See attached photo of how much ice was given to us. I work in a restaurant as well and can understand that it can get busy at times and staff may not be able to be as attentive, but we were their only table today! At this point it is hard to say if I would dine in the establishment again. The food is good so I may just opt for a take out instead. read more

After a nice hike on a beautiful day at whale Beach Cove, I wanted to take my friend to have some good Indian food. So of course I looked this place up on yelp and decided to try it out. Right off the start as we walked, we were greeted by a very friendly host. A gentleman approached us and suggested a very tasty Indian beer! Definitely delicious for both of us, and light on the alcohol content, lol. We ordered veggie pakora , veggie biryani, goat cheese naan, and chicken tikka masala. All delicious, and all of it within enough leftovers for us to take home. Definitely a nice location and we got to see the sunset over the marina while we ate.
