The Inch - Seafood Risotto

I almost had to give a one…read more.. But I think because of the professionalism with the service and the decor and what not, I didn't think it was a complete miss. I have had way worster experiences and I feel like these reviews are more for the hotel itself rather than just the restaurant itself so I do want to be somewhat fair. With all that being said... I can't confidently recommend the restaurant here. The Caesar salad was literally the only thing that was somewhat edible. I had been in Scotland for almost a week at this point and it was also the first time that I had ever been charged for water. That was something I kinda wished they would have mentioned to us if they were going to do that. That's not cool man. It really comes off as shady. For food I ordered the Seafood Risotto and there was practically no flavor. When I asked my friends how they felt about their dishes, it was unanimous around the table. Maybe the chef just quit the night before and they were trying to make do with what they have and know? It's just weird right? You see the pictures and see how cool The Inch looks inside and out and just figure if they have a restaurant that it's going to have at least "some" form of quality to the food. But there was none to be found unfortunately and you are left just feeling like this place is a tourist trap. So yea can't recommend the food here. Then again it is a small area. Maybe that's just all the people know? It'd be really sad if that was actually the case. My only hope is that the staying there for the night is an actual 5 star experience.

When we checked in the lovely girl came outside to greet us. It was the sweetest hotel check in ever!! Our room was lovely. There's a huge living room with a fireplace that they lit downstairs. That was my favorite place to hang out. There was also chairs outside overlooking the lake and it was so quiet and peaceful at night. And there's a little hike behind the hotels to the waterfall. It was absolutely beautiful and peaceful. The food in the restaurant was superior. They rent out the whole place for weddings and I'm trying to talk my best friend into getting married there it was so great.

I can't say enough about how excellent our stay was here! Everything was wonderful - from ALL of…read morethe staff to our rooms to the food and views. We would definitely stay here again! Paul was especially wonderful to us - all the staff were really - just lovely! And the location couldn't be better - right in the heart of the busy part of Inverness on the beautiful River Ness- everything is super walkable. And Inverness is a most excellent base to explore the Highlands from - and there's a wonderful tour company that has tons of tours departing from right down the street (Rabbies - they're phenomenal)!! We spent 8 out of our 10 nights in the Highlands here. They have 2 types of rooms - regular room and a "premier plus" room. The regular rooms are smaller with less "amenities" - with the Premier plus rooms you get much larger rooms, "unlimited" WiFi, larger showers with 2 shower heads (one is a rainfall type!!), a mini fridge, unlimited restocking of coffees, chocolates, and still or sparking waters, as well as some other nice little touches. Totally worth it imo - as this is a "budget" type hotel, the prices are VERY good! The first 2 nights we had a Premier plus room on the 1st floor. Our room was HUGE!! With a whole seating area and couch and everything! And we had incredible views of the River Ness, the castle and some of the historic churches - it was so lovely! The last 6 nights we were on the 3rd floor in a Premier plus room - and while it was still excellent with the great views, it was considerably smaller than the 1st floor room. You have the option to pay just under £10 per person for their daily breakfast buffet and it's worth it! They have a ton of items - all delicious and fresh cooked daily - and you definitely won't find anything like that for that price elsewhere. They have several meat choices, fresh eggs, tons of bread and pastry choices, fruit, yogurt, 5+ cereal choices, and more. They'll also make you anything on the menu you'd like that isn't already out on the buffet. And they have a huge coffee machine that makes anything you could want - from espresso to americano!! As well as hot teas, hot chocolate, & a selection of juices. We also ate here for dinner quite a bit - the restaurant scene in the town is challenging due to staffing issues and you almost always need a reservation everywhere. And there were several nights where we could only get a reservation at the in house restaurant here - kinda crazy - but it was fine bc they have really decent food! They have quite a large menu and good prices. Everything we tried was excellent (see my photos)! One dish that especially stood out was the Chicken Makhani Curry - so good we ordered it several times lol! Their salads are good too and their sticky toffee pudding was very yummy. The internet/WiFi worked very well almost our whole stay. There was one night when it went down but the staff were all wonderful and got it fixed as fast as they could. I can't speak to the parking bc we didn't have a car but I didn't see a lot anywhere - only street parking. I highly recommend staying here - we will definitely be back. Tysm to Paul and all the wonderful staff for making our visit so joyful!

They have a restaurant attached that was a nice spot to eat when I checked into my hotel late in the evening. They have a bar in the hotel as well if you want to stay in for a drink. There are also snack and drink vending machines in the lobby if you get hungry and need a late night snack. The hotel felt safe for me as a solo traveler and required you to use your hotel key to get on the elevator. The room and bathroom were spacious and clean. The shower had good water pressure and was hot. There was tea supplies in the room if you wanted to make tea in the room. The bed was comfortable and the blinds were excellent at blocking out the light was the street. It was a lovely stay and within walking distance of many popular spots In Inverness. I would stay here again.

HARRY POTTER FANS, listen up: This hotel is WALKING DISTANCE from the Harry Potter Bridge here in Glenfinnan. You know the one. FLying car, chamber of secrets, Hogwarts express? Yeah, that's right!! NOT ONLY THAT, but it is right on Lock Shiel which, in addition to being absolutely stunning, is the lake that Hogwarts is on. Compare pictures to this lake to photos from the second task(mermaids) from Goblet of Fire....you will SCREAM! Enough about Harry Potter. This hotel is quaint, homey, and incredibly warm and lively. The entire staff goes above and beyond to make sure that your needs and desires are met. From the included breakfast every morning to the offering of packed lunches for your daily hikes the team here is a cut above the rest. The rooms are large with beautifully updated, modern washrooms and showers. The tea kettles and assortment of coffee and teas(in room) are brilliant and the perfect touch. The main dining area/restaurant is delicious with terrific daily specials. The bar area/casual dining area is just as great and features traditional, Scottish, live music some nights. This place will remain at the TOP of my list not only for myself but for recommendations to anyone that may ask. Thank you to the brilliant team behind this beautiful hotel.

I really loved this hostel!…read more I paid about 19 quid a night, which included breakfast (2 pounds). And it was delicious. They also serve dinner there, but it's like 6 pounds. I was in a five-person room with my friends. The room was clean and smelled nice. The staff was friendly. The walls weren't paper-thin, so I wasn't hearing every noise my neighbors made. I wasn't scared for my life when I went in the showers (quite the opposite). Guys, this is not normal of some of the hostels I've been in at this price. It was in a good spot in Ft. Augustus, although there's not a whole lot to do in that town (that closes at 5 pm :) ). I was with a tour, so we just stayed there at night and I got driven around in the morning, fun times. The place serves free hot chocolate, tea, and coffee (!!), and has a great little kitchen with a bunch of dining supplied. They also make an attempt to be environment-friendly. I can't remember if they have a place to store your luggage, but since their doors locked and all the people in the room were friends of mine I didn't mind either way. The only thing was its location was a little out of the way, and unmarked from the main road (no signs leading to it). So I had to wander around alone in the rain. Loved it. It is the hostel to which all others are failing to compare. Edit: Forgot to mention the bar on-site, with a roaring fireplace. And the free internet (there's also free WiFi but I didn't bring my laptop).

There were covered areas for locking up our bikes, and reception was smooth and friendly. The only slight problem was that their credit card processing machine was out of order, and we had to pay cash. The rooms were great! Ours had 2 bunk beds for 4 people and did NOT smell like a petting zoo. Actually clean and fresh. The sheets were clean and comfortable, and our room had its own dedicated bathroom and shower, so we only had to share it with a maximum of 4 total. The daily cleaning was on time and diligent. Only downside for us was that our room was a bit far from the router, so WIFI didn't exist in our room. The hostel itself had a great vibe. Lots of people of all different backgrounds, although it seemed to be heavy on the American and Scottish side. The shared kitchen was not spotlessly clean, but pretty damn clean for a hostel and well equipped. The fact that they have a constantly ready hot water boiler for tea and coffee was a special plus! The common areas were clean and tidy, although the raucous-ness from the bar area tended to spill over quite loudly in the evenings. The bar area seemed great fun if you are under 25 and into toga parties and horrible karaoke. Not our thing but it definitely seemed like people were having a blast screaming "I'M ON A BOAT MOTHA F****ERS!!! YEAH I'M ON A BOAT" into the mic.
