ignore my feet! Such a cozy sitting room. Very spacious.

I will start with this, this is not a hotel but an experience. Yes this experience is off the beaten path but isn't it true most things worth doing require a little research and word of mouth. So I will say you MUST have a car while staying here. It took a 3 hour drive from st Andrews to the Glencoe house, hidden in a small village in the Highlands. we pulled up and the sight of the house was amazing, we entered and were greeted by James. James is a wonder and what I consider to be an expert on Scottish history, not to mention he was wearing a kilt and Harris tweed, which I knew nothing about but I do now! James got us all settled in our room, explained everything and how everything worked, got our luggage and settled our car for us. 5 star service. That evening we had a delicious dinner in our suite, suite 1, dinner was great and service was a wee bit slow for our NJ/NY taste but was lovely. Our entire stay was fabulous down to breakfast in the mornings. If we return to Scotland it would be to visit Glencoe house again.

Could not walk around the bed if someone was standing or sitting at the bottom. The chair was hiding behind the bathroom door. If the overhead light worked we would have seen it earlier. The safe was triggered open and could not be used. In order to use the suitcase caddy, we had to put it in front of the room door. Only place that it would fit. When we brought the issue up to management, their answer was "It is an old hotel and the rooms are assigned at the time of booking and it is the luck of the draw. REALLY!!!! The larger room had 3 large windows whereas the smaller room had a single 14" window. Be careful when booking this hotel. Lots of stairs and the room is "The luck of the draw!"

The staff is accommodating-the room was nice (no view though) and clean. However, the place was understaffed. When visiting their dining room, it was a frantic mess. Not enough wait staff to care for everyone. Long waits to get service, even with a reservation. The food was ok but not worth the high prices. I had the Sea Bass and it was overcooked and dry. When speaking with the staff, they shared their frustration with not being able to give good service due to being understaffed. The hotel manager was serving?! Again, not many choices in the area so you are kind of forced to eat/stay there. Overall we were happy with our stay.

Staying at the hotel for 2 nights, so booked our first dinner at the hotel restaurant. What a huge…read moredisappointment. To be clear, much of the food was quite good, but the service was so exceptionally erratic that it detracted from almost every phase of the meal. Arrived on time for our 7pm reservations, and we were seated immediately. 15 minutes passed without even being acknowledged, so we hailed a waitress from the bar area and asked for some service. She sent over a waiter about 5 minutes later. We ordered everything: wine, appetizers and our mains. It was another 15 minutes before a single glass of wine appeared. The table next to us sat down 10 minutes AFTER us and ordered the same appetizers (steamed mussels), and got their food in less than 10 minutes. Another 15 minute wait and we had to ask about our appetizers before they came out. Mussels were EXCELLENT, which is the only reason this isn't a 1 star rating. My wife had the trout, which she loved. I ordered the duck breast, which the waiter emphasized would come out "red" which is very much how I like it. The duck was grey. Good flavor, but very tough and dry. The vegetables and barley were quite tasty, but the duck was a disappointment. After dinner, we passed on dessert, but I wanted to order a whiskey. The waiter seemed quite flustered, and said, "If you order whiskey from me, I'll have to go to the bar to get it, so better if you just pay your bill and order from the bar yourself." I told him then that the service had been "terrible" and he said, "I know." and walked off. We won't be eating here our second night, despite very few options in the Glencoe area. This was eating out at a fine dining price, with the service of a motel. Very sad.

Rooms come with a small bottle of local gin + snacks to enjoy - all free. The direct view of the lake and snow capped mountains from my room was stunning. Sunrises and sunsets from this vantage point are hard to beat. The hospitality provided at the restaurant and bar onsite were terrific. Breakfast is a generous offering with plenty of sweet and savory dishes - plus haggis and black pudding for those brave enough to try! Rooms are well sized and comfortable. Bathrooms have built in towel warmers - a nice feature. This property sets itself apart by being modern enough yet maintaining its character and showcasing the natural beauty of the outdoors. If my travels bring me back to this area of Scotland in the future, I definitely hope to return to Isles of Glencoe for another stay.

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of our hike of the West Highland Way, and had the best time here! The staff was wonderful (although it's obvious that they were all horse thieves, pirates and highway men in an earlier life, they were so friendly and helpful, they made us feel very welcome). The food was great (I'm still dreaming about that delicious steak and Guinness pie). The atmosphere made you feel like you'd stepped back in time-- lamp light and muskets and stuffed puffins and a bear in a Drovers t-shirt and kilt. OK, maybe not TOTALLY historically accurate, but history mixed with wit and a sense of fun. They tell me this inn is haunted. It must be by friendly, fun-loving spirits. On our first night there was live music at the bar. We enjoyed the singer/ guitar & harmonica player very much, but it all kicked up a notch when he got the whole room to join in on the singing. Everyone was clapping, stomping and pounding the table, while belting out a rousing rendition of "The Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond". I can't remember enjoying a meal more. On our second night there, the power went out (thank you, Hurricane Amy). The staff showed that although they are retired horse thieves and pirates, they take their current jobs in hospitality very seriously. They could not complete cooking of the evening meals, so it was a quick pivot to sandwiches for all. They handled it with professionalism and grace that made the inconvenience part of the adventure (as one staff member quipped, it was all part of the haunted experience). Breakfast, too, was pulled together with what was available and ingenuity, as they made instant coffee and tea with water heated on the wood stove, and we feasted on cold cereal and granola bars. But as the staff met the challenges with good humor and made the best effort to make it a good experience for the guests, we walked away with an abundance of good memories and an enduring fondness for the Drovers Inn (and its resident horse thieves, pirates and highway men).
