So, I've been going to inbound since shortly after their opening of their North Loop location, and have always been a fan. That being said, as of late I can honestly say that my appreciation of, and desire to go there, has dropped sharply.
Let me tell you why.
In the past, Inbound constantly put out new beers, and reworked previous batches. There was an ever-rotating tap list and it was always exciting to try the new offerings. Lately, however, it seems as though Inbound has started to turn the page to the next chapter that a lot of smaller breweries suffer: they became too popular too fast and only do the same flagship beers and nothing else, save for the random trendy offering that isn't done well.
Maybe they're focusing more on canning than anything else right now, but where as their catalog in the past had so many incredibly done beers of all different styles, now the only new offerings are the truly not-well-made milkshake beers (come on, guys -this trend is already dead. Move on), and the poor versions of goses. Admittedly, as a brewer myself I think that milkshake beers are gross in the first place and have no place in the industry, but if it's a well made one then who am I to complain. These just aren't that, though.
The beer list is fine enough. It's just boring and very uninspired from where it used to be. I honestly don't ever think about coming here anymore when I want a beer, which is a fall cry from the days when I was here numerous times a week.
Inbound: please stop with the trendy shit, and go back to some of your earlier beers. I get that you need to sell beer, but the flagships shouldn't number that high on the menu.
Which brings me to my next big gripe. You are not a club. You are a brewery where people go to talk and enjoy beer. There really seems to be a case of "What the hell is our identity?" going on with the slew of live music and DJ stuff. The music is INSANELY loud, and if I wanted to have a beer where I have to shout in order to talk I'd go to an actual concert. If you insist on having live music (BUT, WHY?) please turn the volume down. If you ask your bartenders, or look around at the patrons there during these strange nights you can surely see the annoyance and confusion as to why the hell you seem to enjoy having the music at a deafening level. I can't even begin to count how many people I've seen get up and leave because it's so irritating.
Future patrons: if you want fine beer that won't blow your mind, don't mind concert level volume music go here. As it stands, though, I can't fully recommend Inbound anymore because I sadly remember what it used to be and how much better it was previously before they only had the same stuff every single day. With so many other options in the area that are putting out good beers and rotating their tap lines, choosing Inbound out of anything other than convenience seems to be far off for now. read more
