We were delighted to try this new establishment on opening weekend. Enjoyed a filling lunch with…read moredazzling cocktails. Such an amazing experience! Attention to detail in every dish was apparent. The whole menu was tempting but we settled on the following 5 sharing dishes: - Yellowtail sashimi salad with spicy sauce (my companion's favourite), super fresh and flavourful - Beef tataki salad with such bright colours in the pomegranates, lettuce, coriander, garlic chips and ponzu soaked onions - Fried Jerusalem artichokes, new for me and such a tasty pairing with the aioli - Miso-grilled black cod tacos were a great texture with crunchy taco shells and tender fish, lightly balanced - My absolute favourite, the fried chicken that had the most flavourful, tender (fall off the bone) meat with Chinese five spice and a deliciously spiced peanut sauce with pickles Scott and staff were a pleasure to speak with and enjoy a fun shot. The Freak Scene cocktail is their take on a mojito, fruity and fresh. Sipping on it reminded me of summer. We can't wait to return for the seasonal delights. There will soon be a queue down the block, so get here now!

We came for our first dinner in London, and booking was easy to get less than a week out. Though it was sparsely populated when we showed up around 8, it was getting busy when we left an hour later; this is definitely a party spot, though it's too small to truly be a clubstaurant. Freak Scene's head chef worked at Nobu for years, as evidenced by both the buzzy, theme-y atmosphere and the theatrical Westernized menu. Expect dishes like sashimi pizza and wonton bombs, washed down with tropical shooters. Dishes run in the low teens and are best split between two. Drinks are wide-ranging, from sake to wine to cocktails, and reasonably priced if not particularly intellectual. I had a citrusy rum drink, while my boyfriend took on the indignity of ordering a Slippery Nipple, some layered shot concoction, alongside an Asahi. Miso-grilled black cod tacos (11 pounds) tasted more Tex-Mex than Tokyo, with an admirable but overpowering salsa and a salty shell that made the well-prepared sushi rice redundant. They're pretty, but logistically difficult to eat. Jerusalem artichoke was not quite what we expected, fried into a thin stick like an elongated egg roll. However, it ended up being one of our favorite dishes and very flavorful with the aioli, though the portion is just silly for the price. Beef tataki salad (12 pounds) was standard, nothing special but a good way to round out the meal. By far, the winner was the lamb, two juicy and substantial chops with a simple sweet-and-spicy sauce. Service was spotty, though food did come out pretty quickly once we managed to place our orders. We spent about an hour here. The space has cool old propaganda posters, but feels a little too slickly designed. Prices were middle of the road for this part of town-- the final bill was about 70 pounds for 2, with a drink each. If you're looking for somewhere fun in Soho for a drink and a bite, this will do the trick, but for savvy customers used to Momofuku and other elevated fusion spots this may come off as juvenile.

Duck & Rice, Soho, London, England -- April 5…read more Our family of four with two kids ages 9 and 10 made our way to Duck & Rice after walking through the Chinatown area, which was absolutely packed and fun to explore, and we were looking for something lively with shareable dishes, and the overall experience felt energetic with some real highs and a few misses. Arrival and First Impressions The space has a strong personality with a mix of pub and restaurant energy and it felt busy from the moment we walked in, matching the chaos outside in Soho, but still relatively well controlled with a steady flow of service and a constant buzz that made it feel like a place always in motion. The Highlights Food came out quickly and leaned into that comfort style Chinese menu with a mix of dumplings and larger plates, and the soup dumplings were the clear favorite for the table with both kids fully on board which is always a win. The crispy duck with pancakes was also solid and more in line with what we expected, and overall the variety kept everyone engaged even if the kids stayed mostly in their comfort zone. The Challenges Portion sizes were a bit tricky for a family of four with several dishes coming in sets of three which meant ordering extra just to share evenly, and a few items missed the mark including shu mai that felt a bit dry. The duck and rice being served closer to room temperature was intentional to keep it tender but still felt a little off from expectation, and surprisingly there were no chili oil or similar condiments for the dumplings which would have helped quite a bit. The overall noise and energy level can also be a lot after a full day out. Final Thoughts This is a lively spot that fits right into the Soho and Chinatown energy and works well if you are looking for a fun fast paced meal with shareable dishes, but it is not without a few quirks and inconsistencies. We are glad we tried it and there are definitely things worth ordering, but with so many strong options nearby we would probably explore elsewhere next time, making it worth it for the experience but not a must return.

It's definitely a young crowd/scene haha plenty of people on Friday evening and luckily were able to get seating upstairs Beautifully decorated but it'll be hard to hold a conversation since it's pretty noisy lol Pretty good variety of menu items, lots of Asian fusion dishes SO and I opt for their Crispy Aromatic Duck, Prawn and Chinese Chive Dumplings and Scallop Siu Mai Their Crispy Aromatic Duck was 5/5 -- crispy and not overly fried, great flavor too, SO and I really enjoyed it, funnily they bring it to you for display... then take it to the back to deconstruct, and then bring it back to you for grubbing afterwards haha Scallop Siu Mai and Prawn with Chinese Chive Dumplings were great too, a good filler for dinner, wishing it came with 4pc vs 3pc but I get it haha A pretty penny (or rather, pound heh) but it's London Worth a try if you like Crispy Duck!

Service - absolutely top notch, from the time we entered, to our amazing waiter who was so good at suggesting dishes, and recommending desserts. Ambiance - very cute place, super central in London, easy to get to from subway. Food - omg, the food was so good!! We had Crab Dumplings (!!!), Black Pepper Prawns, Chicken Satay and Spring Rolls, to start. Lovely Negronis for drinks, and then great bottle of white wine. And my main course was Char Grilled aged ribeye, with a side of crispy baby potatoes. There was nothing left when we were done. Amazing meal!

I ordered the Modern Thai set menu and it came with 3 starters - a spicy mango salad, chicken curry puff and black bean shrimp. All were tasty and moderately spicy but nothing was a stand-out. Entrees included truffle fried rice, curry chicken and grilled sea bass. The fish was perfectly cooked, I'm sad I didn't get a photo. Dinner ended with mango and sticky black rice, which was only ok despite its moniker. Not the best Thai/Asian food I've had but it did the job. Decor is beautiful - stunning wallpaper, Asian decor and tableware. Restaurant is quite large and seems to go up forever. Service was slow, we asked for the last few dishes to be brought together and dessert to be boxed up. Again, this is more our fault than theirs and they were more than accommodating which I appreciated.
