Board & Brush - Completed project

Board & Brush

(38 reviews)

Yeah! I was sooo looking forward to this class with Board & Brush and The Fancy Marshmallow Co. The…read morecollaboration of the two Cedar Park small businesses has been all I could talk about. Greeted with excitement, owner Rochelle of Board & Brush had me check in on her iPad. Showed me to my seat where we chatted for a bit. I saw my project in its raw form. I'm so excited to tackle this project. This is actually my second time coming so I know a little of what is expected. Rochelle does an amazing job taking you step by step and helping you. Even if you're not a crafter, never even handled a paint brush, Rochelle, and her staff are very patient, and very helpful. You start off with a raw board of pine. You're given a couple minutes to release your stress on the board. Hammering marks using chicken wire, a hammer, a mallet, and a large screw. You'll sand it lightly, and then stain it. Then it's time to stencil. Using a semi dry brush, you'll dab your brush on the stencil. Give it a minute under the fan to dry and peal the stencil off. And you're pretty much done. You get an official Bb logo sticker to complete your project. I recommend signing and dating your project on the back. Viola you're an artist! The Fancy Marshmallow Co. owner, Tina, she is such a sweetheart. She set up her beautiful marshcuterie spread. All made from scratch. Soft, fluffy, and flavorful treats. She has the cutest treats. All kinds of shapes and sizes. My favorite is the strawberry champagne. Trust me, they are amazing. Tina also brought in her hot cocoa mix ingredients and we all got to make our own bag of hot cocoa mix to take home. And we got to pick our goodies from the marshcuterie and box them up in the cutest boxes with heart printed tissue paper. Such a sweet touch to a fun class. I highly recommend coming to Board & Brush. Such a fun girls night out. They are BYOB, so it's a great group celebration. The Fancy Marshmallow, such a cute boutique, I've been several times. Tina comes up with the most delicious home made treats for all holidays and celebrations. Her boutique is the girliest cafes in Cedar Park! So darling. Check them both out. 5 stars!

It's free so don't expect anything mind-blowing. However, it's a nice addition to the rec center grounds. It's an activity you can do with kids. They can run around and you get to look at art. There's a little playground for kids as well. Very limited -- a web swing, a slide, and a climbing dome. If you want to keep walking, the trail loops around the pond. I think it's about a mile. Nothing scenic but nice to have the option nonetheless. The art varies -- there were pieces I liked and others, not so much.

The total length around the pond was about 0.8 miles, not long but paved. We had our dog with us, and we were happy to see a couple of poopy bag stations along the trail. However, they were in random places and weren't near the recreation center. When we went, few people were on the path, which made for a pleasant time. Bikes can use the same trail, so be sure to yield to them to let them pass. For the sections of the trail that dip towards the water, there is an alternate, higher dirt path you can take whenever the water of the pond rises from rain and light flooding. The trail extends and passes by Costco and a Marriott hotel. Along the way, there are a couple of spots where you can see a small waterfall when you pass under a bridge. We saw several people fishing along the banks, though we're unsure whether or not a fishing license is required. This trail isn't too bad if you don't mind the car traffic noise from cars entering and exiting the Costco parking lot.

Austin Aquarium

There are so many creatures to witness at Austin Aquarium: sharks, several fishes, jellyfish,…read morestarfish, anemones, various stingrays, crustaceans, and even others like different species of lemurs, birds, and reptiles. There are small stations to purchase food or drinks, and a huge gift shop with so many cute items to choose from. Is it the grandest venue with state of the art attractions? No!! But it has character and charm, and their animals look taken care of, which is (to me) more important than it *looking* fancy or high tech. A cool thing about Austin Aquarium is that there is educational material everywhere you look, AND almost every animal has an extra add-on ($$) you can take advantage of if you have a favorite that you want to interact with. I've never see that as an option before! It's so important to preserve nature, educate fellow humans, and appreciate the other animals that we share the globe with. If you're looking for a fun activity to fill the day with, this wouldn't be a bad idea. The kids running around were all having a BLAST! I can't think of a single good reason (within reasonable expectation) to give them less than 5 stars. They're all doing their best, I got my moneys worth, and I had a great time!

This place is so disappointing! It's dark and so dirty. The place should be shut down. The cages…read moreare so small for the animals and they are filthy. Even the fish tanks are cloudy and nasty. Literally took 10 minutes to walk through for $60! Do not come here!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Freedom Fun and the incredible team they sent to support…read moreour event. From the very beginning, working with Nina was an absolute pleasure. She was incredibly accommodating, responsive, and genuinely invested in helping me find exactly what I needed for our event. Her professionalism, flexibility, and willingness to help made the planning process seamless, and I truly appreciated how easy she was to work with. What really sets Freedom Fun apart, however, is the quality of their people. While setting up for our event, I suffered a very serious accident that resulted in a significant injury and severe bleeding. In those frightening moments, Isaac, DJ, and Adam immediately sprang into action. They did not hesitate for a second. Remaining remarkably calm under pressure, they took control of the situation, did everything they could to stop the bleeding, and stayed focused until emergency responders arrived. Their quick thinking, composure, and genuine concern for my well-being made all the difference during one of the scariest moments of my life. What impressed me most was not only how capable they were, but how compassionate and caring they were throughout the entire ordeal. They stayed with me, reassured me, and handled an incredibly stressful situation with maturity and professionalism far beyond their years. Freedom Fun should be extremely proud to have employees like Isaac, DJ, and Adam representing their company. Their actions demonstrated outstanding character, teamwork, selflessness, and a level of care that I will never forget. Thank you, Nina, for being so wonderful to work with, and thank you to Isaac, DJ, and Adam for stepping up when I needed help the most. I am deeply grateful to all of you and would highly recommend Freedom Fun to anyone looking for a company that not only delivers great service but is staffed by truly exceptional people.

I was especially in awe of the incredible pinball machines, including The X-Files, John Wick, Aerosmith, South Park, and more. A big thank-you to Allie for being so sweet and taking a video of us on the bumper cars! There is so much to do at Pinballz and so little time. I definitely need to come back for another visit!

We were in the process of leaving the second time. Every time we would go, multiple games wouldn't work but it's part of the pinballz experience and we just wrote it off as no big deal but the losses do pile up. I was there today and it was busy and more than half of the games didn't work. When they did work; they had glitches. I found an employee which is tough and they saw what I was saying and apologized and said to go to the counter and they can credit me back. The woman at the counter wasn't as nice and told me she wouldn't be crediting me back for games that didn't work and said it with a huge attitude. The way people treat people there is wild. I've literally spent thousands of dollars and when telling them I was having issues with 5 games and would like to be credited back for the games that didn't work; they seemed to take satisfaction in telling me no. I won't be back and no one there cares. Broken games and counter people with superiority complexes aren't a great match but they will still make their money. The last thing this place is is fun.
