I had reached out a few days prior to our trip and got in contact with professor Magno via phone to set up my visit. I was able to catch three 4:30 AM classes a 1 no gi and 2 gi classes. Coach Kevin teaches the early morning classes. Class is structured in a light warm up, flexible technical workshop style back and forth with a partner, techniques, then free rolling. Coach Kevin does a great job of teaching. The early morning crew are a great group of guys: I felt welcome the second I walked into the gym. Thank you everyone for the rolls and hospitality! Master Ali and his coaching staff go beyond teaching BJJ. They teach discipline, self-confidence, communication skills, and life lessons like how to deal with bullies. When demonstrating a technique, they ask the kids questions about it to keep them engaged and make sure they're paying attention. Everything at A-Team is earned, nothing is given. Stripes and belts aren't handed out just because you pay the monthly fee. When a kid makes a mistake, the coaches correct it; when a kid performs well, they get a compliment that reinforces their confidence. The coaches run a tight ship and don't let the kids run wild. I would highly recommend A-Team to any parents who want to help their kids learn self-defense and build self-confidence and discipline.

This is the most kind and understanding owner around. He teaches all the meta in jiu jitsu while still being a good person. The gym feels like home and everyone in it is extremely kind and accommodating for people of all level. Oh, and the level of instruction is top notch. Edwin has a great explanation of every question or idea you have. I came back to the gym despite moving further away. You will definitely LEARN jiu jitsu while also being in a very good environment. Before joining, he would get easily distracted and often gave up quickly when things became difficult. Over time, we've seen a big improvement in his focus, resilience, and patience. He now sticks with challenges instead of giving up, and he's learning how to stay calm and manage his emotions better when things don't go his way. These are skills that have helped him not only in Taekwondo but also in everyday life. The instructors and masters are very understanding, patient, and supportive. They take the time to guide each child and provide the encouragement they need to grow both physically and mentally. I find that the way the average martial art is taught usually doesn't translate to sparring and fighting. Training and fighting become two different things. I think Paul has transcended that and shares his discoveries with you from a the fighter's perspective. He also addresses the mental aspect of fighting as well. In my perspective, he's a true martial artist and a warrior not just a teacher that rehashes curriculum in a set of patterns that may not apply in the real world.
