My two boys, ages 8 and 12, have been training at A-Team for the past three years. Master Ali, Coach CJ, and Coach Luis are great mentors, not just to my boys but to all the kids there. Master Ali and his coaching staff go beyond teaching BJJ. They teach discipline, self-confidence, communication skills, and life lessons like how to deal with bullies. When demonstrating a technique, they ask the kids questions about it to keep them engaged and make sure they're paying attention. Everything at A-Team is earned, nothing is given. Stripes and belts aren't handed out just because you pay the monthly fee. When a kid makes a mistake, the coaches correct it; when a kid performs well, they get a compliment that reinforces their confidence. The coaches run a tight ship and don't let the kids run wild. I would highly recommend A-Team to any parents who want to help their kids learn self-defense and build self-confidence and discipline. read more

This review is long overdue, but this school deserves it. I have nothing but great things to say about the school, the coaches, and the environment here. Everyone is extremely welcoming and friendly, and the teaching style is detailed in a way that really helps you understand and grow. Often times, I struggled with certain moves, and would walk me through it. I have nothing but love for this school. This has been my one and only school, and I'm grateful to be a part of it read more

I started my BJJ journey when I was 42 years old, about a year and a half ago. I was skeptical about starting at such an older age since I'm not nearly as athletic as I once was, and my body takes a lot longer to recover from intense exercise. But after a year and a half training at this gym, I can honestly say it's been an amazing experience. The coaches are outstanding: highly technical, patient, and great at explaining the details that make a real difference. The camaraderie here is incredible too -- it's a supportive environment where everyone helps each other improve, no matter your age or experience level. I feel challenged, but never out of place. If you're looking for top-notch instruction and a true community, this is the place. read more

They break down techniques clearly and give personalized feedback to ensure you're always progressing. The teammates here are equally amazing. From day one, I've felt welcomed and supported. Everyone trains with respect, and higher belts are always happy to share tips and guidance. Rolling is both challenging and safe, with a great balance of competitiveness and camaraderie. My 2 boys ages 7 and 10 have been taking Jiu Jitsu at A-Team for about 5 months now. The coaches works hard to make this place the best of the best in OC. They spend a lot of time to ensure the kids are learning proper techniques. You can tell the coaches care about what they do and that they care about the kids. So far there has been no complaints from my boys. They love this place and we can see ourselves being part of the gym for many years to come. Thank you A-Team for being amazing! read more

Unsure if your child will like Jiu Jitsu? Nervous about which gym is the best fit? I was there too. Try a free private lesson and class at A-team and you won't regret it. I've wanted my 8-year-old son to do Jiu Jitsu for years but he was always shy and timid about it. I've known about the stellar education the kids receive at A-team from three of my nieces that have been training here for years, and one day I simply decided to finally force my son to try it, haha :) Once we met with Coach CJ and took the free private lesson, I could tell my son felt immediately comfortable with him and was having a blast. After the first free introductory class, we immediately signed up for a membership and for the past 6 months, my son has been working harder than I've ever seen him work, and non-stop smiling through it all. My son asks to go every day and hates when we occasionally can't make it to class. As a pediatrician and father of 3 kids, I like to think that I know how to deal with children, but A-team probably deals with the kids way better than I ever could! Master Ali, Coach CJ and Coach Luis are the regular kids' coaches and they are amazing with them. I love their very DISCIPLINED yet FUN approach. The Jiu Jitsu education is meticulous. The kids classes are not dumbed down at all. There's so much attention to detail combined with regular sparring, so it's no surprise that the kids here do great at tournaments. The kids love sparring so much that at a recent class, Master Ali announced they were doing a practice tournament that day and all the kids cheered! They groom some extremely competent and confident kids here. In addition to the Jiu Jitsu, Master Ali or Coach CJ regularly sit the kids down at the end of class to teach them life lessons, how to concentrate, how to be respectful, and how to deal with bullying. My son listens to everything they say, and quote them regularly at home. Starting my son in Jiu Jitsu at A-team has been the best life activity I could've done for him at this age, and I'm so glad I finally forced him to give it a try! :) read more

I've been training at A-Team for almost 10 years and there's great things I must say about this place. Whether you're a hobbyist or a competitor, A-Team will be the right place for you. Through the last 10 years of my life, I've gone through different stages in my jiu jitsu career. At the very beginning, I was attending college which provided the luxury of training everyday and allowing me to compete. During this time, Master Ali and Coach CJ prepared me physically and mentally for competition. Extra time is spent after normal scheduling to help everyone who was competing ensure we were in prime shape. Techniques and competition strategy were always a core component. Master Ali and Coach CJ's coaching and expertise has helped me and others win many tournaments! And during times where my professional career was more time demanding (I was only able to train 1-2 times a week) I turned into a hobbyist. The same amount of attention and care was provided to myself and other hobbyists even though there were others actively competing. This still allowed me to grow with the team. Other schools typically avert more time competitors instead of hobbyists. Teammates here are always willing to help and they do not mind when you ask them to share those moves. We all elevate each other. Nobody here has ever tried to physically harm teammates. They are careful and mindful when rolling with other partners. I've had 0 major injuries since my team here. Maybe a bruise or two every other month but that's it. A-Team also provides structure and cleanliness which some other gyms unfortunately lack. Staph infections are quite common at other gyms. The class structure and curriculum help build a strong jiu jitsu foundation. Exploring other techniques are encouraged, and the coaches will be there to help refine them. There's more I can say but I'd rather have anyone that is willing to try jiu jitsu come and visit the team and see the experience themselves. You won't regret it! BIG OSS!!! read more

There's not enough good things I can say about A-Team so I'll tell you about my favorite things about the school. Master Ali and all the coaches are very knowledgeable and always open to questions and breaking things down so you can understand a move or position. Whether you're looking for self defense, competition training, or just trying to be healthy everything taught here covers all of those aspects. The biggest thing you'll also notice is everyone's willing to help everyone, and no one's afraid to teach their technique or a move to make you better. The last thing I love is that the mats are always cleaned daily and the school is very big on hygiene to make sure no one misses time because of staph or ring. read more

Instantly felt comfortable enrolling both of my boys at A-Team! Coach CJ and Coach Luis were extremely responsive to our initial questions before and during sign-up. The complimentary introduction class was very inspiring for my boys and all of the students were so friendly, welcoming and ready to help them on day one. The facility is large and clean with plenty of sitting room for parents. The coaches are professional, extremely well-trained and GREAT with kids. A-Team for the WIN! read more

Very friendly and professional. My boys were instantly comfortable with the instructors. Highly recommend!

My children and I have been coming here for a little over a year now. Let me start by saying, if you are even remotely interested in you or your family learning a martial art, physical fitness and/or self improvement, stop in and meet the instructors. You will not be disappointed. Master Ali, Coach Cj , Senor Luis and all the other staff are phenomenal. Their kids program is top notch. Master Ali and his staff teach lessons that your child will take with them outside the school and keep with them throughout their life. The school is clean and they provide a safe environment to learn. Aside from the above, your fellow students will quickly become friends. There are no egos here, just confidence, respect and camaraderie. Give the trial period a try and you will want to become a part of this family! We are all waiting for this pandemic to pass and get back to the school! read more

My sister and I joined in April. We had no experience with martial arts but were looking for a great way to exercise and learn self defense at the same time. From the first day we stepped into our private lesson with coach Luis we were immediately met with smiles and a positive attitude. That same day we signed up for the whole year as we knew we would fit in with the rest of the class. Each lesson is broken down into steps that are easy to learn and retain. Master Ali always teaches us life lessons, real life scenarios, and makes us feel included in every class. Coach CJ and Luis are always willing to work with us if we don't get a move correctly, they provide us with great feedback, and motivate us every single time. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to learn martial arts and exercise! read more

A-Team Jiu Jitsu - Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Near Me - Garden grove, California

A-Team Jiu-Jitsu is a great place to train in BJJ. As a female who has trained not just as an adult but as a pre-teen and teenager under Master Ali, I highly recommend you try out a few free classes at A-Team. They are very family and detail oriented. I see so many fathers and sons training together. Mothers and Daughters training together. Couples training together. Everyone works together as a team to grow and improve. All of the coaches are patient and encourage questions. At the end of every class, we sit and the coach asks if anyone has any questions. They break details and concepts down to the simplest of steps and tinniest of details you never thought needed to be considered to improve your game. As a woman, I feel safe to train with any of the men of any size and rank. We are taught how to flow roll, which allows both students to practice techniques, not just smash and go hard all the time. Though once you feel more comfortable rolling and want to, for example: get ready for a tournament and train harder, they will put you with people that can push you. My Jiu-Jitsu journey started with Master Ali when I was 11 years old. I got my blue belt when I was 16. Unfortunately, when I was 18 life pulled me away from Jiu-Jitsu. Over a decade later at 29, my wife wanted to get into Jiu-Jitsu. She brought me back into the sport and back to my Jiu-Jitsu family. Now she is addicted. I joke its hard to get her off the mat now after class because she wants to continue to review and prefect whatever technique or concept she is working on that day. When I was younger Ali was able to keep things light and fun but also still very focused. In middle school and high school Jiu-Jitsu was my outlet. I didn't do so well with school but on the mat I felt like I could actually learn something and achieve the goals I was reaching for. It taught me discipline and focus. I'm glad my parents decided to start me young. Later when guys would give me a hard time often times, I didn't even have to do or say anything. My friends would just say something like "Hey you don't want to mess with her. She knows Jiu-Jitsu!" They would scoff or whatever and walk away. There have been times someone grabbed my arm. I was able to break the grip, step back and create space. They get so surprised by me just being able to do that they backed off. I could go on with more examples... because of those experiences even off that mat, It is my opinion that every female should have at least a blue belt in jiu-jitsu. read more

You will not receive or find better instruction and care of BJJ than A-Team. There is no gym that teaches JJ in more detail and competency than here. I have trained at many gyms across the US and under many world champions and no one compares to what I have learned in such a short time and continue to learn at A-Team. As a brown belt joining this gym in 12/2020 I immediately realized that I have never been taught precisely why I do the things in JJ. I felt not only like a white belt again but also that I had to truthfully relearn JJ fundamentally or else I would not be properly prepared for a black belt one day. The team holds nothing back from its students; you receive decades of JJ knowledge and mentorship that feels like it should come at an extra cost but is given freely every day. Many places withhold their full potential from their students for various reasons, along with the lack of care and personal investment into them. Every class at A-Team feels like a seminar where everyone is on the edge of their seat trying to make sure they pay attention to all the details. If you miss something the team will routinely provide help before you even know you're doing something wrong. Too many gyms ignore this and just allow their students to create bad habits. A-Team however, takes JJ very seriously and is not there to just collect your gym membership. Their goal is true investment into their students and the art which you will notice immediately. A-Team is a hidden gem in the mass of so many JJ gyms in California. Even after visiting some of the "famous" bjj studios that SoCal has to offer A-Team is without a doubt the best I've seen and been a part of. read more

The BEST place to learn Jiu Jitsu! They always have at least 3 blackbelts at each practice walking around, making sure everyone is learning the moves together correctly. My first day was a 1 on 1 lesson with Luis, he made me feel welcome and was very excited to welcome a new member to the team. Everyone here is passionate about this sport and loves doing what they do. They break down each move you're learning, step by step and they always answer questions to help you learn. They offer private lessons and some no gi classes as well. I've been here for 4 months and nobody is rude. Everyone is friendly and wants to help each other learn. A great environment with great coaching. 10/10 read more

I've been addicted to A-Team Jiujitsu for about 3 years now... I'm about 120 lbs (male). Most people know jiujitsu as the great equalizer for smaller fighters (or smaller people who get caught in a fight). But after trying countless reputable jiujitsu gyms around the world, I noticed many of them do not make it easy for smaller students to stay, learn, and grow. A-Team Jiujitsu is different... I feel comfortable here because more than anything else, Master Ali -- owner and head coach of A-Team -- stresses the importance of being a team. What does it mean to be a team? All of us are taught to be kind, helpful, and considerate. We don't leave anyone behind. Everyone learns jiujitsu differently and even applies each technique differently. As a smaller practitioner, this was important to me. Most people could smash me or pin me, waiting out the round timer and claiming a dominant victory. In fact, that's how it was at most other schools... Not at A-Team. Training partners at A-Team are willing to slow down and get technical so that in the long run, we both get better together. In the end, being a team means having partners to improve with every day, minimizing injuries, and having lifelong friends after all of that. The coaching and mentorship from Master Ali and Coach CJ are world-class. Every day starts with a level of enthusiasm unmatched by any other school that I've been to. They love jiujitsu and love teaching it, and it shows. There's a lot of focus on reliable, foundational jiujitsu movements that work regardless of size or experience. Plus, Master Ali and Coach CJ will notice and adjust every small detail, which would be the difference between hitting the move here at A-Team and not hitting the move trying to learn it at some other gym. If you have any interest in jiujitsu -- for fitness, for mindset/confidence building, or for self-defense -- don't hesitate to give A-Team a call. They'll take care of you, and I'll see you on the mats! read more
