This place was gross! We just moved to Roslindale and wanted to check out the Chinese food. This place was close so we gave it a whirl. I always measure my take out Chinese by the General Tso's Chicken, or General Gau's as you Bostonians call it. For starters the white rice which came with it tasted at least two days old. It was u set cooked, dry and mealy. The chicken was cooked far too long and it was chewy. Almost impossible to chew. We ended up throwing more than half of it away. We also ordered an appetizer combo. It came with Peking Ravioli, teriyaki Beef, Crab Rangoon and Chicken Wings. The chicken wings were fantastic! Crisp and tender. The crab Rangoon was just cheese wrapped in a wonton wrapper. Why can't I find a good crab Rangoon?? The beef was pork and the dumplings tasted like thanksgiving stuffing. If I were rating this greasy spoon Chinese take-out place in comparison to all of the dining experiences I've had in my life, I'd probably give it two stars. However, compared to other greasy spoon Chinese take-out places . . . it's a solid three. I bought a Groupon for this place on a whim and after reading the Yelp reviews I was a bit frightened to redeem it, but figured I'd have to make the plunge eventually. For two people we ordered the Honey Chicken, Sweet & Sour Shrimp, Scallion Pancake, and yes, the infamous mozzarella Crab Rangoon (I had to use up the Groupon and I wanted to find out just how bad it was). For the most part, everything was fine -- standard Chinese takeout. The chicken was actually nicely barbecued with a bit of caramelized crunch and the fried foods were all crisp and not too oily. The sweet and sour sauce was maybe a bit too sweet, and yes, the Crab Rangoon were filled with mozzarella cheese . . . it was unusual and not something I'd ever crave, but it wasn't particularly bad. In all fairness, it probably means that they make their own Crab Rangoon in-house instead of dropping some frozen dumplings in the fryer. Aside from the food, the guy who took our order was incredibly nice. He seemed genuinely concerned about whether we liked the food (maybe he's been reading these reviews?) and he helped us wrap up our copious leftovers. If I were craving standard Chinese takeout in Roslindale, I'd definitely try this place again but avoid the bizarre Crab Rangoon. read more

Well I live in Roslindale and always avoided this place for some reason. However after a pretty sad meal at Dragon and too lazy to go to Triple Eatery, I decded to give it a try. But what really got me was the cook squating outside the back door of the restaurant smoking a cigarette on the street. It made me think of Chinatown. I avoided all the items mentioned by Yelpers and got the chicken wings, spare ribs and singapore rice noodles. Wings were good, better than those from down the street. Spare ribs had a nice fresh taste, but were a little tough, 15 minutes in the toaster oven solved that. But the noodles were pretty good, a little more curry than I have previously encountered in this dish (but it was ok because I like curry) and the noodles were a hair over cooked, but full of baby shrimp, pork and veggies. Inedible food and just bad service. I ordered General Tsao chicken for delivery last night, and not only was it overpriced for the portion you get, but they did not even include white rice with it. And when I bit into the chicken, it just split apart into a stringy mess. Runny sauce too, just awful all around. I threw the whole thing out. I ordered of Postmates twice in two hours. The first time I ordered I got two plates of food one for my boyfriend and one for me, when the food gets here. Only my boyfriend food in the bag. I ordered the second time they gave me ribs and some sauce. That's not what I ordered. I was skeptical about the second time but my boyfriend told me to do it. $30 waisted down the drain. I love this Chinese take out!! The husband and I are very particular about our Chinese food-- him about the wings, me about the shrimp fried rice and spring rolls. High fives all around. Nothing is to oily, the wings are crispy and well done the way we like, the rice is delicious. Not oily, not dry.. the spring rolls are huge and full of veggies and the crab Rangoon actually has bits of crab ( maybe fake..lol) instead of just being stuffed with cream cheese. The portions are plentiful and they don't skimp on the duck sauce. Worth a try on a Friday night with your favorite white wine on the side. read more

It was my first bad impression. I ordered Beef with Green Pepper, and it costed me $6.25. However, I can spend 20% less and get a similar beef dish at Hong Kong Cafe. It was the second bad impression. If the food was good, I will give this restaurant a 3 stars. Sadly, the food was bad, and the rice was not cooked well done. This isn't going to be seven star bistro good, but if you're looking for decent food later than 10pm and are in Roslindale for some reason, this is your place. The egg rolls here are good - giant and you can taste the 5 spice. They don't mess around with the fried rice - if it says "pork fried rice" you're getting rice with pork in it and pretty much nothing else. orange chicken? you orange chicken - they won't try to sneak any vegetables in there - and it's pretty good too. word of advice - try to avoid the americanized chinese stuff here, like general gau's or crab rangoon. You'll have better luck with more authentic dishes. read more

Last week I found myself in Roslindale sq. My wife and I were hungry and we saw the Imperial restaurant on the corner. We went in and the person behind the counter could see we were not sure what to order. So he said "let me put together a dish for you". First we had the Imperial fried rice. It was fantastic! It had chicken, shrimp and vegetables, with just the right bit of spice. We also had the boneless spare ribs, that were the same as any other Chinese restaurant. The best were the crab Rangoon. They were twice the size of what I normally get at my local Chinese food restaurant. They blend in mozzarella cheese with the regular cheese. All in all it was a pleasant experience. I have ordered take out twice since then and its been perfect. read more
