I have a love-hate relationship with this apartment complex, and unfortunately, the negatives are…read morestarting to outweigh the positives. For starters, the complex has parking rules in place, yet there seems to be little to no enforcement. I have reached out to the leasing office on numerous occasions regarding vehicles consistently parking improperly next to mine, making it difficult to access my car and now resulting in visible damage to my vehicle. Each time, I'm told the concerns will be passed along to security, yet I rarely, if ever, see any actual security patrol or enforcement. On top of that, my boyfriend's bike was stolen, residents constantly leave trash throughout the property, and there seems to be a general lack of accountability when it comes to maintaining the community. For the amount of money residents pay to live here, I would expect a much higher standard of property management, security, and overall upkeep. I understand management cannot control every resident's actions, but they can certainly do a better job enforcing the policies they have established. It's disappointing because there are things I genuinely enjoy about living here, but the ongoing issues and lack of resolution are becoming increasingly frustrating. At the end of the day, residents should feel that their property is protected, their concerns are taken seriously, and the community standards they're paying for are actually being upheld.

My husband & I lived here for 3 years and it was horrible…read more Here's the highlights: 1. our car got hit& run by a trailer in the parking garage, when we asked for video footage, we were told our parking space is in a blind spot and they couldn't help us. 2. A man jumped from the balcony of Main & Nine, fell, and died and we saw the aftermath (dead body, horrific scene) while pulling into the parking garage. 3. Another resident at Main & Nine attempted to run us over while driving drunk. We reported it to the police and Main and Nine staff. 4. Our apartment wasn't cleaned prior to moving in. 5. Our neighbor got trapped inside the elevator. 6. Electrical issues throughout the apartment. 7. The elevator & parking garage gate constantly have issues - elevator has been out of service for weeks at a time. Parking garage gate has been stuck open & closed a dozen times. The elevator being out of service is horrible if you are elderly, disabled, pregnant, or hurt. My mother with stage 4 cancer had to walk up and down the stairs (five flights!) after chemo & radiation appointments because the elevator was broken. So think about that if you have children or sick people in your life that plan on visiting you. 8. Multiple appliances broken - washing machine, dryer, dishwasher. This building is "new" I believe built in 2019 or around that timeframe. Appliances should also be new and not have issues but they do. The unit below us flooded twice due to a pipe leak. 9. Homeless & theft. Have seen hobos sleeping in the hallways, stairwells, and blocking the parking garage gates. I have had packages stolen from the mailroom and in front of my apartment door. The staff is nice enough. Main & Nine and IHL (sister property, Imperial Hardware Lofts also downtown) say they're luxury apartments but they're cheaply made. It's evident how cheap the apartments were made because they're falling apart. The homeless are everywhere. The alley & parking situation is substandard - the alley is constantly blocked via trucks, photo shoots, and homeless. I lived here for 3 years because the location was convenient for work. If I had to do it all over again, I would look harder & choose somewhere else to live. I've never experienced this many issues with a rental before & I would not wish these frustrations upon another human being. The elevator always smells like rotten garbage, I assume it's because Arcade Coffee (in the same building) uses the elevator to access the business storage (2nd floor). The Festival of Lights (annual, 3 month long festival) causes insane traffic congestion in the area & the alley being a single point of entry/exit feels like an accident waiting to happen. I've never seen people evicted before moving here - I've seen multiple apartments with police tape over them. The noise from bars & clubs downtown is constant - also the trains, fire station & church bells. The benefits of living here: -freeway access -close to Mt Rubidoux & Santa Ana River trail (for walkers, runners, bikers) -club house, pool, and gym are fine -nice views from top level apartments

The gate is still broken and anyone can get in the complex though the gate and that is not good since we are right next to Pomona and a very high homeless population which i have had to call the police about a few times. Secondly, parking is a joke. They issue permits and tell you that parking is being enforced and that you must have a permit to park inside the gates. BS!! I purposely left a car parked in the same spot with no permit for 2 weeks and not once was there ever a notice or a warning. The parking permits are useless and just for show.

There is a strong sense of community here, which makes it an enjoyable place to live. Our apartment was nicely renovated and feels modern and well maintained. The only minor issue we noticed was that some areas of the flooring are not perfectly level, but this has not caused any major concerns. One of the standout aspects of living here is the maintenance team. They are always quick to respond, informative, and professional. Any issues we have had were addressed promptly and efficiently. The leasing office staff has also been friendly and helpful especially with our kids . While I did have one truly negative interaction, my overall experience has been very positive. The team has been kind, understanding, and transparent about any limitations they may face. The property itself is consistently well maintained, and both the management and maintenance teams are highly responsive. (Also, many AMC staff live on-site and are probably the only residents that Live Happy paying less and terrorizing the rest--so don't trust the positive reviews.) The James decided to not provide any quality service and made my tenancy unbearable. You might think I am exaggerating. I'll give two examples. You decide. Once, I smelled gas leaking from the oven. The maintenance worker came and detected a leak. He turned off the gas and we were unable to use the stove and oven for 7 days because the manager claimed the soonest would be more than a week out after initially stating next day service. Intentional. The other occasion, The James failed to properly notify residents they were entering residences. I was literally naked after showering when they entered my apartment. The maintenance worker explained I should have received an email. There was no email. When I brought this up, management shrugged it off. There were many instances of The James hanging up on me, delaying repairs, not fixing problems and profound hostility whenever I needed assistance. To expound on my original Yelp post, in addition to hostility for posting a review, The James proceeded to not fix issues and harass us. For instance, they sent a notice stating items were not allowed on the balcony. Hello discrimination. When I asked why bikes were not allowed on the patio, I was informed it's a visibility issue. Huh? The James does not provide bike racks. The office told me to put the bike inside my apartment. I ignored them. They treat tenants like college co-eds they can boss around. One summer The James kept changing the pool rules. They constantly limited the hours (10 PM to 8 PM). Claimed the pool was out of service for multiple days around July 4th. But the complex is too cowardly to actually enforce the rules and check the pool. You can't enjoy the spa because children will likely be splashing / not being watched. Then there is the sub par tiny gym. Definitely don't cancel your gym membership. The James records the area (weird and creepy), yet issues persist. The James claimed residents could use the Recreation Room when it was not in use, but they keep it locked at all times. You would need to go to the office and get a staff member to open it for you. Lies, again. The James is still ghetto. The utilities are a sore spot because residents are getting shafted. Parking went from bad to horrendous. They use these green stickers to chastise you for various "violations." See picture of sticker. Other violations they will threaten to tow your vehicle: expired tags, parking in same spot for 2+ days, other DMV related issues, etc. Reason we finally moved out: ROACHES! and more ROACHES! The James moved in a ghetto family into the apartment we shared space with (floor/ceiling)--no issues with two previous tenants/families. The family had kids that yelled constantly, played music loudly 24/7, dog poop smell prevented us from using outside area, and SMOKED outside. When we complained about the smoking, WE RECEIVED a notice stating the property was non-smoking. A couple months into their tenancy, we started seeing roaches. We tried to handle the issue ourselves, but it soon became an infestation because our neighbors were clearly disgusting. I DIDN'T COOK FOR OVER 6 MONTHS (until we moved into our new place). Eventually, we informed The James and they sprayed, but nothing helped. We couldn't take it so we found a new place and moved. (I will post the numerous photos of the infestation.) Oh and the kicker, those same neighbors were evicted the week we gave notice (apparently, when you are evicted they place an orange paper on the windows and doors warning against trespassing). Also dealt with hornets/wasps and ant infestations. The James also said they wouldn't raise the rent, but raised the high rent about $250 dollars exactly 1.5 years in--they were going to raise it again before we moved. Lies, again. It was a nightmare and in the end I will never rent from AMC Management or recommend AMC/The James. Worst apartment I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Will post the pictures of the mutant roaches we killed. Not to be dramatic but I had PTSD from the infestation and am only now recovering--months later. We also threw out so much stuff, especially kitchen ware and groceries--literally THOUSANDS of dollars worth of appliances/goods/equipment. Everything seemed tainted and dirty. I'll never forgive The James/AMC.
