Red Fine Hardwood Floors - Hallway, finished product! Floors are seamless and so soft!

Red Fine Hardwood Floors

(20 reviews)

Coconut Grove

Many things come to mind when you think of beautiful hardwood floors: the form, the sheen, the…read moreluster, and even a bit of history. But what does not come to mind in the daunting task and small miracle that it takes to keep them so beautiful. Having recently moved into a 1925 Old Spanish, my wife and I felt it was time to strip that old and poorly applied shiny lacquer and bring new life to those floors. Here is where we had no idea what we were getting into. I had done many online searches and read about all floor refinishing, it seemed very straight forward. This was obviously not something I was going to attempt but I just wanted to be informed, I was off to get a quote! When Ramon and I met up, he was prompt, professional, and knew exactly what he was talking about. I asked many questions and found out that he, and his company, uses an extensive multi-step sanding process that really makes the difference, other than the products used of course. He came, he saw, he measured, he explained, he answered, and then he left. Armando sent me the quote the next day and even called me to follow up and if I had any questions, which I did, obviously. At the price point, I was taken aback but I already knew it was going to be expensive. In the end, it is a VERY specialized process. My wife and I continued working on more pressing renovations and decided we would give it some more time. We waited and waited. Ramon called me to let me know they were getting booked up very quickly, but I told him we were still on the fence. One day, I see a request for wood floor refinishing on NextDoor and two people quickly recommend RED. I got nervous. When we finally had a concrete move-in date, I spoke to Ramon and he penciled us in. I told him that we will be going with the satin oil-based poly instead of the water-based simply because of the price. He said, "no problem, I totally understand". Before they started, Armando and Ramon came by to drop off some replacement boards they needed to acclimate to our home's environment, yes, they even think of that as the pros that they are. Obviously, my wife and I asked even more questions. We made it very clear that we were against the yellow undertone from the previously applied lacquer. They quickly recommended the water-based polyurethane to get the wood color and matte look we were looking for. We said we would think about it. The day came and the crew quickly got to work. Ramon kept me in the loop for everything. He asked me to come by so I could see the progress myself. After a single day, the floors looked completely different, so smooth, so rich in natural wood color, that was not even half of the process. Ramon explained that the wood had been resurfaced many times before and had very little life left. He showed me many examples and explained why we could see the nails in some area, he even explained what that does with the finish, very glad he mentioned it. He assured me that we will get a lot of use out of them but next time, it will have to be a very light sand and recoat. They sanded, ripped out bad boards, laid new ones, sanded some more, and then, you guessed it, sanded even more. The process was extensive. The dust. The dust was everywhere. But not like you would expect. Ramon and the crew worked with the upmost thoughtfulness and picked up a ton. He did warn me there would be dust, but their machines picked up most of it. This is an inevitable consequence of the process, but it really is not that bad, it was easy to clean up. NOTHING like tile and drywall work. I called Ramon and said we wanted the water-based coat and he told me we would not regret it. He was right. During the coating process, Ramon and the team are VERY strict with people being in the house, the A/C off, and only necessary movement to prevent anything from sticking to the coating. When it was all done, the floor looked completely transformed. My wife and I could not believe it, it was beautiful and natural looking. What wood floors are supposed to look like. The photos do NOT do it justice. Ramon also supplied us with Bona commercial cleaner, applicator, and felt furniture pads, yes, that is a very fine touch. We followed all the recommendations: kept shoes off the floor for about 2 weeks, only dry cleaning with the applicator, no rugs for 30 days, and felt pads on EVERYTHING. Ramon seriously warns that the first 30 days are crucial in keeping the finish undisturbed as much as possible. In the end, it is probably the best dollar spent because it is something you see and use every single day. Not to mention that everyone loves the floors. We even had them take the Florida Pine handrail and refinish it so it could all be harmonious. IN SUMMARY: RED is phenomenal, they are professionals, take their work very seriously, know what they are talking about, guide you in what is best for you and your budget, and are worth every penny. They definitely under promise and over-deliver.

The only inconvenience; they advised on their first day working I should "leave it to cure" for 3 weeks. That means limited movement of anything on the floors! I was looking to put "crazy pavers" into my newly screened in patio. Jessica replied quickly and helped me set up a meeting the next day. Gio came by at the promised time and looked at the space, understood my vision and provided great advice. I wanted to source the tiles myself and he and Jessica were understanding and helpful, guiding me on which would work, and offering to help with pick up. After patiently waiting as I searched for the perfect stone, Gio met me at someone's house to look at some marble they were selling. He was helpful in evaluating the stone and getting an amazing deal, and he helped load it all and deliver to my house. He even made two trips to get all of the stone. Gio was true to his word, showed up on time, and finished the job in three days. He is committed to excellence and made sure everything was to our expectations. He has forty years of experience and it shows. If you want a true professional who takes pride in bringing your vision to life, choose the Floor Clinic! I'm glad I chose Jessica and Gio. I feel I got incredible value for the amount I paid. My floors are timeless and will increase the value of my home. Their communication is very strong. Gio delivered exactly what we were looking for, going the extra mile to ensure everything was perfect, even coming back to fix a hazardous step a few days later for free. Thank you! We are looking forward to enjoying the beautiful floors for years to come.

Gio was not the least expensive option, but he was more knowledgeable than the other service providers I spoke with about the repair. One area of improvement could be better communication on matching grout color prior to installation. Other than that no real issues and I would use his services again for any tile project.

The pricing practices of the company are a bit questionable, they had an advertising of up to 40% off for Presidents Day but in real life there was not applicable. He set us up for a measurement and took $100 deposit. After the measurement, Vince called us with a quote, $4,220 for approx. 500 sq ft. He would call us for scheduling within a week. Sounds good. . We found a higher quality carpet on their website. We went back to Dolphin Carpet and Tile. Same deal. One car in the parking lot. They had the upgraded carpet. Great. The quote went from $4200 to $5200 for under 500 square feet. We picked the best padding and the best carpet they had. We agreed. Get it right! We were all eager to get the ball rolling on the carpet job. We paid 1/2 of quote up front. Vince called back. Saturday, morning. They will call before they arrive. Great. We moved everything but the heaviest furniture. A husband and wife team showed up 9:00am. They made me sign and initial several agreements and pay the total $5220 before anything got started. That seemed shady. They laid the carpet on the road out front to measure and cut. Everything was going slow, but still ok until we noticed that they were measuring our couch and then splicing a 3ft by 3ft piece of carpet in the first room, which is our living room. We took pictures of the installer doing his splicing job and called Vince, and sent the picture. Vince's tune changed from that moment on. He treated me like I was stupid and didn't know anything about carpet installation. He didn't acknowledge the mistake of not bringing enough carpet. Their measurement was 3 feet short. After that conversation, Vince stopped communicating with me. I emailed him and told him I would haul the extra carpet, in my van, needed for completion ,without having an obvious patch in my living room. Silence. Vince has not responded to my requests for some sort of compensation for their mistake. No apology. No repair. No anything. They got the total $5220. We have an obvious patch in our living room. Sloppy work for $5220.00 We believed Dolphin Carpet and Tile when they say "get it right". They got it wrong. The following we
