I have been here many times and it's great each time. I ordered the hot chicken ramen and it was very tasty. The service is pretty fast as well. There is plenty of seating and ambiance is fine. I like that it's close to the hospitals.
One of my favorites foods and service is always excellent pleasant kind, patient ambience university wayne state .. type café always enjoy it.
I choose a neutral recommended dish called Shoyu ramen with sesame chicken. The dish was flavorful but didn't get all the ingredients advertised such as the buttered baby corn that comes with the dish however it was still good.
After attending dalley in the alley my friends and I decided to get dinner at Ima. There was about a 30 minute wait but there is great people watching in the area lol Once seated we started with the endamame and the miso cucumbers. Both were good. The cucumbers have a peanut butter aftertaste which was weird but good (if that makes sense). I ordered the Teri-yaki udon with the seafood melody (shrimp, clams, mussels and crawfish). This was my first time ordering this and I think it's my new favorite! All of the seafood was cooked perfectly, the noodles soaked up the broth and seasoning so well. I almost want to go back tonight and get it again.
I got takeout with some friends on a Monday night, and I have to say that the curry udon was not up to what I usually like. The broth was quite thin and spicy, whereas I typically like a thicker, milder curry. However, I think the fried tofu bites were delicious. I'd like to try something else, such as regular udon, the next time I come here!
Stopped into Ima while in Detroit for a work trip and really enjoyed it! It's also a really great spot for solo dining if you're exploring the city or traveling for work. I started with the pickled appetizer plate, which was a great light starter with lots of flavor, then ordered the spicy Tori chicken ramen. The broth had a really nice kick without being overwhelming, and the chicken was super tender. Definitely a cozy, satisfying stop after a long day. Would absolutely come back next time I'm in Detroit!
It kind of gave a generic ramen feeling. There weren't many ramen options to choose from. This was my 1st time at Ima, but not my first time having ramen. I was there with my boss and another team member. If I'm being honest, I'm happy I didn't pay for it. My boss treated us and I was hungry. I didn't give 1 star because our waitress was good and our food was hot. I don't think I'll be back
We walked in on a Friday night and waited maybe 10 minutes. They quoted us a bit longer, but we got seated after a quick loop around the block. Started with the togarashi fried tofu bites. They marinate these in something that tastes like a Japanese broth base - really delicious! The tofu has real flavor before you even add the citrus. Best thing we ordered. The Tokyo street fries work well. They drizzle eel sauce over crispy fries. Who knew this would be such a strong combo! I got the unagi don. Ima loads this bowl with eel and pairs it with avocado. The avocado adds a creamy fat that balances the glaze. Not overly sweet and good textures throughout. Although this paired with the Tokyo street fries can be a bit much on the eel sauce. I wouldn't recommend ordering both together. My wife ordered the shoyu ramen. It hit the basics but didn't do much beyond that. The chicken needed more flavor in the broth. Still really solid. Ima always has a chill vibe without being too hectic or too slow. The wait staff were great and super attentive, which we always appreciate!
This ramen spot is cute on the inside, however lacks some key menu items. I really wanted a creamy tonkotsu broth which is a pretty common menu item at ramen shops, but this place did not have it. I am also used to having pork belly with ramen, however, they only offer pork loin or chicken. The food is pretty good, just not what I was looking for. I was also disappointed because I wanted to try their mezcal cocktail but the server came back later to say that they were out of the ingredients, but didn't offer any sort of recommendation or comparison.
My friend and I were on a little road trip and asked a local Michigander where to grab lunch. He recommended Ima and since we both love Asian food it was an easy choice. We came at lunchtime, ordered at the host stand, and the food was brought to us. The space was such a vibe with fresh plants, natural light, and locally made fountain sodas in unique flavors. We shared the spicy tuna with rice crisps. We thought it would be crispy rice but it came with little rice cracker chips that were so good and had the perfect crunch. The tuna flavor was spot on. I ordered a side of rice noodles with shoyu broth which was great, but the glazed broccolini was the real star. Great vibes, great food. We will be back next time we are in town.
Ima Midtown immediately caught our attention with its inviting curb appeal, so my friend and I decided to pop in -- and I'm glad we did. I started with the Spicy Chicken Karaage Bites, which lived up to their name in the best way possible -- crispy, flavorful, and packing just the right amount of heat. For my main, I went with the Tori Paitan Ramen featuring smoked pork loin. The broth was rich, layered, and bursting with flavor, with the subtle hint of sesame oil adding a perfect finishing touch. The generous portion of tender smoked pork loin in the bowl was an unexpected (and very welcome) surprise. Overall, Ima Midtown delivers both on presentation and taste, and I'll definitely be back for another bowl.
Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon with a reservation and was seated immediately. The hostess informed us that they were short staffed that day, but our service was so good, I wouldn't have even noticed it. Started with the Japanese pickles and spicy togarashi tofu, which were the perfect combo. The curry yaki udon was perfectly delicious, especially with the addition of the soft egg and pork belly! The yuzu ginger hard cider was another delight!
4/5 Tried Ima and ordered the buttery udon. The noodles had a great texture, but it was very salty. It didn't come with any meat or protein, so for around $18 for just a bowl of noodles, it felt pretty pricey. I added a few sides, which were about $2 each including canned baby corn and that definitely added up for pretty simple add-ons. I wasn't too interested in getting the ramen as it did not seem very authentic. We also got the karaage, which was really good while it was hot and crispy. The sauce that came with it was tasty and paired well. Service was good, especially considering it's in a busy college town. Overall, decent food and good service, but the price for what you get makes it more of an occasional stop for me. Bonus points for brining me a side of lemon and ambiance was cute.

Let me just tell you this place is a MUST!!! I stopped at this location for lunch with a friend and we went all in on an amazing lunch. Before I get to the food let me just shoutout the incredible staff. The restaurant was super clean, COVID-19 safe, and the team was so fast and efficient without making us feel rushed. Here's our menu from today: Karrage fried chicken bites. - think of the perfect chicken nugget, paired with amazing house made dipping sauces! Totally awesome. Spicy tuna toro chips - this was my favorite app. A huge portion of fresh sushi grade spicy tuna with taro chips and fresh veggies. So fresh. So light. So good. Spicy tori ramen bowls with pork - we each got one of these and it was simply perfection on a chilly fall day. The broth, the pork, the soft boiled egg, and the ramen combine to make your dreams come true. Unreal good. Expect to pay $5-$12 for apps, $12-$18 for entrees. Honestly we loved every single thing about the meal. We're big fans of Ima and will absolutely keep coming back. This place is legendary for a reason! read more

Just tried the Midtown Ima this weekend and discovered that IMA does not in fact stand for inferior mesenteric artery (block me). I was saltily satisfied with my forest ramen. The miso without egg also seemed like a great ramen option. My boyfriend enjoyed some ramen that had chicken and stuff but honestly don't remember the title. The portions were appropriate, but not absolutely gut busting like the ramen places I've been to before. There were so many options from udon to ramen to rice dishes I would like to come back and try some more. Lots for vegans and omnivores to feast on. For desserts they had a couple offerings involving vegan soft serve, about which I overheard a woman at the table next to us saying "this is so good you wouldn't even know." read more

I will continue to be amazed by the Midtown location. And during the pandemic, I intend to keep supporting the business and passing along the word. GREAT Business!! Takeout process is healthy and EFFICIENT. You call them and they walk your food out before you've hung up. Lol! They've translated food quality very well to takeout. Chicken sandwich, ramen, even Japanese curry are properly separated so you can reheat and reassemble. read more

I pulled up right before they opened and placed my order on DoorDash so I could get 15% with Cash App boost. I waited in my car but I didn't know there was an inside waiting area. The food was amazing. I got the Spicy Ramen with Potstickers. No complaints at all. I will definitely be back when I am craving Ramen. read more
I was really excited to try ima after my friend highly recommended their ramen. Parking was relatively easy to find on the streets adjacent to the restaurant. It was a really rainy day so I was really looking forward to the meal. We were seated with no wait by the hostess and our waitress came promptly to give us water and give us our menus. We ordered the spicy karaage chicken and the spicy tori ramen with gen-maicha & ginger green tea. The spicy karaage chicken came out first and it was actually pretty spicy, coming from a person with a high spice tolerance. It was crispy, slightly fatty, and had good kick of heat. The ramen came out right when we finished the appetizer, and it was also very good. I felt that the noodles were very average, especially compared to other ramen shops, however they did give a large quantity. It had an amazing broth. The toppings, especially the pork belly, were also very delicious. The flavors and textures complemented each other very well. Overall, I would definitely come again for the appetizer alone but the entree was a very close second. read more

Wow, this location is amazing! Much bigger than the previous one so ideal for a last minute dinner - we had no problem finding a seat even though the restaurant was crowded. We got the tori ramen + chicken katsu bowl, as well as dumplings to share and an ice cream sundae. Everything was amazing and arrived super quickly. There's lots of options for non alcoholic drinks, which is really cool, and all of the desserts are vegan as well. Our server Dakota made sure to ask us about any allergies, which I really appreciate. The cocktails looked good but it was freezing out, so I had tea instead. The sundae was a standout - ima is always good but it was one of the best desserts I've ever had. Definitely will be back. read more
Delicious addition to Midtown Detroit! Had the curry cauliflower which was pretty good. A little salty but I added the spice mix so not sure if that affected it. Family had an array of ramen noodles which they all enjoyed. Cocktails eres interesting. Had a whiskey drink and a gin drink, good but both a little too sweet for my liking. Service was good. if Ima won restaurant of the year, it definitely wasn't because of their Ramen. You guys know this..... a shop that focuses their attention on loaded toppings, usually neglects the two stars of the bowl, soup and noods! My gut was telling me, go for the Udon and per usual I should have listened. I couldn't make it halfway through. I ordered the Shoyu Ramen which came with a choice of chicken or smoked pork loin (diced?????? whyyy), roasted chicken shoyu broth, a soft egg, sesame garlic oil, chili threads and "buttered baby corn" aka babycorn from a can. (All ramen noodles include: menma, wakame, scallion, nori, crispy garlic & chili thread) After I spent the first half hour digging and picking off tasteless toppings, I finally made my way to a mess of anemic, soggy noodles. Super let down. Where are my soaking up the liquid gold I craved? Not handmade, these are purchased from Sun Noodle. However! broth is definitely homemade and cooked for hours I am told :) You guys. Their redeemer was the edamame, which i'm going to say it, the best i've ever had! Other critiques, they gave my eating partner the wrong food and the table next to us as well. read more

I love this establishment. I'm a Wayne State student living on campus and I probably come here once a week at least. I always get the same thing and they are so consistent. Love the music and it makes for a great study spot. Vegan options are a plus. I always get the Spicy Szechuan Yaki Udon with tofu. Great service. Great atmosphere. Great food. read more

Went here with some friends while I was in town visiting. We each ordered ramen along with the spicy tuna to share. Let me first just say that you must try the spicy tuna!! It is so tasty and the taro chips are perfection. I ordered the miso ramen and added scallions and bamboo. My friends both got the spicy tori ramen. We all agreed the ramen wasn't bad but it also wasn't life changing. I really liked the tofu and the mushroom though! If I were to come back, I think I'd get something other than the noodle soups. Looks like they have other great options on the menu. Also we had a weird interaction with one of the staff. My friend ordered green tea and was told it would be brought to the table but it never came. We forgot about it until we were about to leave so we let someone know that we ordered a tea, it didn't come, and we'd like it to-go. The person we talked to seemed confused for some reason and a bit rude about the request. Eventually we got the tea and the to-go cup. Overall food and experience kinda left us all with a "meh" feeling about the place. read more

Another great eatery in the heart of midtown! I'm always excited to have great tasting food that feels authentic enter the city. Our dinner for two was a bit pricey when I checked the bill, but the portion sizes alone make up for it. I had enough for dinner and a sizable lunch the next day. The environment was clean and staff seemed to be following all COVID safety procedures. Will be stopping in again soon for some delicious soup and ramen during these cold winter days. read more

I gave this place a visit after it was referred to me by a friend. It's conveniently located in Midtown with tons of street parking available. I highly recommend to Wayne State students. Okay, let's get to the good stuff. I was pleasantly pleased with my experience at Ima. The staff members were amazing and were very helpful. The food was DELICIOUS and was served quickly and very fresh. The only thing I didn't like as much was the fact that I had to order prior to finding a seat. I don't know about you, but I don't like spending too much time looking myself a table, especially when I'm with a group. Luckily the wait time wasn't bad. The set up of the restaurant is cute and intimate. Rather quiet space with beautiful natural lighting. Very laid back and chill. Great place to grab a great lunch for a great price. read more
First time here. Ordered the spicy tori ramen and the shrimp scallion dumplings. Delicious. I did add more spice to the ramen. The broth was rich and satisfying and it was very full of toppings. I was not super impressed with the chicken cubes that are described as "sesame chicken" on the menu but taste like nothing. And the noodles are not the Japanese ramen noodles but more reminiscent of the Korean ramen or grocery store ramen. I didn't mind the noodles. They were not over cooked. I enjoyed it overall. The dumpling filling was soft and the dumpling was slightly crispy. So wonderful. I'd go back to try the udon and then maybe the pho. read more

this restaurant was amazing! They were really quick and taking orders and they were really clean and the restaurant looks really nice on the inside. We got our food very quickly after ordering and the staff was very friendly. The food was delicious! The Ramen was so good and savory and had lots of great different flavors. The pho was really good and the lime that came with it was such a great touch. The chicken sandwich was absolutely delicious and the chips on the side were a great addition. The restaurant is located very close to Wayne State (perfect for college!) and the view is really nice. Will be back for sure to try lots of other delicious looking items on the menu :) read more

I went for my fifteenth birthday and it was a really fun experience. The employees were really nice and helpful. One lady even gave me two boxes up Pocky because it was my birthday and she paid for half of my drink. Now about the food. It was really good. I've had Asian noodles from different places and this was by far the best. I ordered the Beef Pho,Forest Udon and spicy tuna spread. Delicious *chefs kiss* it had so much flavor and it was enough for me to eat for lunch and save the rest for my dinner. One blow is about 14 or more dollars and I think that was a good price for what you get. Also very aesthetic environment. read more

Yes. They are noted on the menu with GF. My friend had one of their rice bowls and really enjoyed it
