I made the ultimate decision to embrace my true color (white) and stop coloring it it's 20-something color -- brunette. At 59 this is a big deal, but I wanted to be authentic and own my hair color. Carline has been instrumental in getting me there. She is a master. It took time and patience, so I made sure to bring some reading, but as Carline says, if you're going for speed, you'll fry your hair. My hair isn't fried. It looks and feels great. It has dimension and a multiplicity of colors. I truly think its a work of art. I have a lot of friends who are getting their grey roots dyed every 4-6 weeks. They're tired of it and want to know how they can change their hair color without cutting it all off and seeing what comes in. Carline did it and she did a great job. I have had compliments from other hair stylists who said, the stylist who did this knew what they were doing. This is not something that gets taught at stylist school. Went to see Carlene on Monday to get a full head of color, not too sure what I wanted. She took the time to help figure out what would look best and made sure it was something I was on board with. She kept the conversation going the whole time I was there and was super hospitable! I recently moved back from California and needed a new hair salon. I wanted to go somewhere that wasn't another Adam Broderick's and have a stylist who cared about my hair, what I was interested in and give great recommendations without feeling pushed out after an hour. Thankfully my mom recommended that I check out Illumination Salon and it was the best decision I ever made! I came in with very fine, damaged hair and was in need of help to grow it back, get it healthy, and make it look nice. Carline listened to all of my concerns (without any judgment) and recommended some great products, treatments and created a plan to get my hair back in shape! Now, my hair is SO much stronger, healthier, fuller and the color is beyond gorgeous. Every time I leave the salon I feel like a million bucks, but the best part is my hair stays looking amazing and feeling great until I have my next appointment! I am extremely disappointed in my hair after getting it done here. I asked to keep the length and my hair was chopped off, I can't stand looking at myself and I've never felt this way before. I know hair grows back but I am absolutely miserable. My family and friends are trying to be nice about it but it's not genuine. I'm constantly hearing people tell me how they liked me better with long hair which only makes me more miserable about it. I can only hope that in a year my hair will grow back to where I wanted it to be originally. read more

I have been going to Illumination since the salon opened in July 2015. Carline has carefully tended my dried out, over-processed hair and she has educated me on the best products to use to make the most of what I have. By far the BEST haircut and color I have ever had. The salon is comfortable and lovely, with many special touches. Carline treats her clients like her friends, and I always feel like a princess when I leave. Had my cousins wedding this past weekend in which I was a bridesmaid and my hair came out awful. She (the owner) was late for my appointment and didn't even try to do my hair the way I recommended. I am not a fussy person but my hair came out horrible. It looked like I partied the night before and slept on it. Oh and I failed to mention this was after she tried to give me an up do twice and couldn't succeed. After my hair was "done" I had to re do everything, which made me late for my cousins wedding. These are photos I will see forever and have to regret going to this salon. I recommend you go somewhere else OR do your hair yourself. Carline cut my hair nearly two months ago...an absolute disaster that destroyed my hair, the fallout from which I'm still trying to deal with. She talks a good game, spent about 15-20 minutes with me talking about my hair, looking at photos that I brought with me of cuts/styles I like as well as ones I don't (which I included to avoid any chance of miscommunication) & then proceeded to ignore all of it and completely shred my hair. Carline used a technique I have since learned through other stylists should never be used on my type of hair (thick, coarse, curly, short hair), leaving it looking flat, damaged, frizzy, & frayed and completely unmanageable. I almost wrote this review right after I left the salon in shock and tears, but decided to wait until my emotions settled, to make sure I wasn't "over-reacting" in hopes that maybe it wasn't as bad as I thought. Unfortunately it was even worse, and after 7 weeks of struggling with my hair and knowing it looks awful regardless of what I do, I decided I needed to write this review in hopes of saving somebody else the nightmare I'm still hoping to wake up from. read more
