I ordered the kebab wrap, friend ordered the kebab sandwich, and we split a large fry (which was too much for us to finish!). Both had the same well seasoned tasty meat. Mine came pre-loaded with sauces, hers let you choose what sauce (mayo, catsup, hot sauce or garlic yogurt sauce) to add. The place was convenient, clean, friendly guy behind the counter. Situated between a couple pot cafes, so I bet there is high turnover in food, and busier late at night (we went around 8 and it was pretty empty). Wide selection of food and non-alcoholic drinks. Would come back.

And then... There is the epic Kapsalon. Jups, look it up this time G translate is pretty accurate: 'Hairdresser's'. What on earth? Drowning fries in mayo since Pulp Fiction now this? Why tell me why. Well there was this neighbour of a friend and his uncle said that a guy running a hairdresser's in Rotterdam ordered this dish on a regular basis. Mmm, what to do... No name for the dish, name of the guy unknown, just this guy who ordered this dish. The hairdresser's was born. A dish with french fries, kebab, cheese, garlic sauce, sambal and some lettuce & tomato to fluff it up. To further increase conscience, it is completely spelt, gluten, anti-oxidant, vitamine free but does offer value for money, 7 Euro for a whopping 1,800 calories on average. Jamjamjam, gimme some. Back to the gist, ah. The thing about a Kapsalon is that it does take a chef to prepare a good one. This fine balance easily crapped up with too much of this too little of that. Things. Yes, I am a connoisseur when it come to Kapsalon IMHE (E = Experience, so non negotiable) So, there I am sitting behind my desk as usual at Haarlemmerstrasse thinking how I could be more like Charlotte Crosby and monetize the sheize out of everything and ooops, late again. 03:41 hours. Kebab House 42, a 3 minutes walk without interruption. Biggest hurdle, is Newman (see Seinfeld) working or not... Then no kapsalon and if lucky a little mediocre. If lucky, Master Chef is working and even at this hour, just before closing he just might prepare me this epic Kapsalon. Yes, because he truly is the Kapsalon Master Chef. On my way, in the distance lights still burning Joehoe. Ha, can I have one Kapsalon please. Well, actually we are closed. Aaargh what to do? Master Chef there in front of me ... Kapsalon so close and so far... "Hey, I will make one for you." Thank you kind Lord. He lit the stove and minutes later, there it was. My sweet Master Chef did it again, put a smile on my face. Because of a great Kapsalon when hope was fleeting. Yet, mostly because of some empathy at this hour and most important: Service Level. Service so many businesses lack (in Holland IMHE). People without responsibility: tomorrow another day, ah well what do I care, daddy days, x-factor und so weiter. Then there is Master Chef at Kebab House 42. Who does care about his work, what his products are, how to prepare to perfection and everytime he delivers an Epic Kapsalon, even at 03:48 hours. With a smile. I don't speak Dutch so I don't know if that rubbed them the wrong way- but they asked me if I wanted everything on my wrap and I said "no onions, but everything else would be great." one of the guys whispered something to the other, and then they immediately put onions on my food. I hate onions and this completely ruined the food for me and made it disgusting. But the even bigger issue for me was that it was a blatantly rude, and disrespectful thing to do. I definitely would not recommend anybody going here and I certainly would never come back even though it's the closest fast food restaurant near my hotel.

It was definitely filled with lots of lettuce, chicken, and onions and a nice sauce, but it was nothing I would go out of my way for. The person behind the counter was nice enough to cut it in half and plate each half, so we could easily share it. All of it sat on some mixed greens and a side of fries. Talk about stuffing my face in hunger! The whole plate was totally filling, and pretty much put an exclamation point to my eating night. As for dining, there were larger tables in the rear of the restaurant, and tables meant for two in the front. Service, I had no issue as the manager (possibly owner) presented my plate and made sure I was fully attended to. He came back several times to check if I needed anything. There really wasn't anything super fancy about this place, but I didn't mind it. It was fast, simple, and filling to say the least. I totally recommend giving these guys a try. They even have other plates, grilled chicken, falafels, and various wraps. as well. Something I'll try on my next visit.

They offer pieces of bread as if they were free of charge - but when you are about to pay they add it to your bill even when you have taken only a small sample of the bread. And with their fries, they will offer you some sauce (as if it was included in the set price) - only to be billed $1.95 for a very small packet of sauce. Too bad Netherlands got them as immigrants -- these people should not be allowed to exist as they only give amsterdam a bad name.

The combination of these factors made us go here. The place is nicely decorated, great for a multitude of reasons. Good wifi available, good beers both bottled and draft, and god yes those pizza's. De-lish. They were very nicely done and even though it's called Gierige Maandag, they definitely were not Gierig with the toppings. Great mozzarella, lovely crust, not too much cheese (god I hate too much cheese), very nicely balanced flavors. We switched halfway through our pizza's and I can confirm that both were amazing. They have a number of specials depending on the day, so I'd recommend trying out a few of these days. But the pizza they serve are what hooked me and I'm sure it'll get you hooked, too.
