If you want authentic homemade pasta, and pastries head on over to Il Pastificio. Let's start with the pasta for five or seven dollars per pound you have some of the best homemade pasta on the East Coast. The pasta is displayed in airtight sealed packages so you have the utmost freshest pasta possible when you go home. I've tried different styles of their pasta, and each one was better than the last. I definitely give High praise when it comes to pasta making since I do not have the patience for the time consuming process. I would suggest everyone come here and try the pasta at least one time you will be hooked. Magnificent.!! Now for the pastries. What can you say all the crusts are light, soft when needed, crispy and crunchy on the others. I mean it's basically cookie and pastry perfection here. The cookies are sold by the pound you can just ask for a mixed batch or pick your own mix and match. I am not sure how much per pound the cookies are my last purchase was 1 pound of cookies and two grapefruit waters and it came to $29. This is a freaking bargain for the quality of this pastry. The only downside about the pastry is that you can only eat so many cookies and at this location, you want every single one. My only advice is to come multiple times a week and grab a pound and see if it lasts you a day or two. Unfortunately, the pastry is so delectable that you want to eat them all in one sitting. Grab a pound and see how long you can make it last. Approximately two hours at my house. With everything said above, you think that would be it but there's more! Homemade gelato you heard that right homemade gelato. Already scooped into beautiful cups with fruit, different flavors and yes, 100% homemade again! Coming into this business is like taking a flight to Italy and walking down a small alley with local shops. There is too much going on for my taste buds in this store. Everything is amazing. So not to extend this fabulous review, but there's still more.... I haven't had the opportunity or the need to purchase a jar of sauce, but with the quality of every single thing that is sold under this roof, I am sure the sauce is amazing. They have jars of sauce so you can go home and make a pasta dinner in a few minutes just boil up your pasta and warm up the sauce. I definitely will try a jar one day. But I already know that it's delicious. Yes, there is more... I haven't had a chance to indulge in a sandwich at this location however it is on my agenda. I know they have sandwiches because there's actually a sandwich sign out front when I drive by once in a while that says they have sandwiches. I will save that for another day. I can only foresee a fabulous fresh sandwich with amazing taste coming out of this location. I look forward to this adventure in the future. The location is always clean. Well kept organized and set up super cute. There is always some kind of little display going on in the main lobby. As for the service, you can't get any better service than at this location because the people serving, you are actually the owners. Sandra is one of the most happiest, beautiful young ladies. I've met in so long. She is so upbeat, polite, happy and beautiful that you almost forget about the pastries when you speaking with her. And her dad, he is the master creator of the pasta.. and I'm sure most of the other things in the store. The both of them make your experience so pleasurable that it is amazing that you get the quality the taste the personalities of these two all at one location. I would say this is my favorite pastry/pasta shop 100%. The only negatives I see about this business is of course trying to get a parking spot on Broadway Everett, make sure you don't bypass make a few circles or go down the side street because you definitely need to go in here and give your taste buds the pleasure of everything inside this shop. Secondly, if you are handicapped, FYI, there are about 8/10 steps to get up into the shop. And the last which is not a negative it's just more of an anticipation one of my favorite cookies that you can't get anywhere is homemade here. I've been eating these since I was a kid and they are extremely hard to find. Nobody makes them unless you have an aunt or grandmother that actually makes them. If your around Il Pastificio during the holidays, you definitely want to come in and try the homemade Fennel Taralli. Next time I see them I'm grabbing three or four bags. I'm gonna hoard them!!! If you made it this far in the review, God bless you, go buy some some pastry, some pasta or just stop by for a sandwich or a gelato definitely support this business. Not many left like it. Great assortment of baked goods, gelato, and even pasta! We got to try the amaretti, biscotti, and some other cookies and they were amazing. My boyfriend especially loved their hazelnut gelato, and I really enjoyed it as well. It was creamy but also not overly thick. One of the things that really made our experience 5 stars was the fact that the man who helped us was very kind and helpful! The prices were also very fair and not too expensive. I'm a little bummed that we didn't try the homemade pasta this time around because it looked so good. But we're hoping to come back again in the near future--definitely give Il Pastificio a try if you're ever in the area and support local! It's a cute shop that deserves more attention. read more

Amazing bakery! I found Il Pastificio on Yelp when I was looking for an ice cream cake for a birthday; it was one of the few places that delivered ice cream cakes to Cambridge that also had good ratings. I saw that they offered gelato cakes (an upgrade from ice cream!), but Mercato, the delivery site, only listed a couple of flavors of cake, while it had many more types of gelato. When I called to ask if the bakery had other cake options, I spoke with Sandra, who explained that they make their cakes fresh so not all of them are listed. (So definitely call to check if you don't see what you're looking for on their website; they have an amazing variety of flavors!) She was super nice and helpful--she walked me through the cake options, added the specific cake I wanted (bacio--chocolate and hazelnut) to the delivery site, and made sure I knew how to specify the cake message on the delivery site. We were all amazed by the quality of the cake--it was really beautiful, topped with a cute flute of sugar sparkles, with dark chocolate rose decorations around the circumference of the top and bottom. And in addition to being enormous and pretty, the cake was delicious! The cake was largely composed of chocolate hazelnut gelato, which was really thick (someone analogized the denseness to that of liquid nitrogen ice cream) and creamy and had strong, balanced flavors of chocolate and hazelnut. A further plus was that it was not too sweet, as ice cream sometimes is. The cake did not melt or get messy while it was sitting out, which was great. (Gelato has a higher melting point than ice cream, which makes gelato cake better than ice cream cake!) There was a small pat of yellow cake that did not span the bottom of the cake but served as the base. It was moist and really tasty--we wished there was more, but the gelato was so good that it was still a big hit. Thank you, Sandra and Il Pastificio for making our birthday celebration a success! Totally hidden gem. I almost don't want to write this to keep the secret. :) The family who I believe own it are so warm and friendly. Their prepared pasta and the frozen ravioli are delicious. And the pastries and gelato are amazing! I don't like pastries overly sweet. The cookies are totally amazing and made with almond flour. All sorts of delicious flavors unlike anything I've tasted at other Italian bakeries in Boston. I love cannolis and have had my fair share of them from places all around New York City and Massachusetts, including La Fiorentina (Northampton), Gerardo's (Shrewsbury), Wholly Cannoli (Worcester) and Mike's Pastries (North End). While I've loved them all, nothing beats the ones from Il Pastificio. NOTHING. You can taste the love that goes into their cannolis, like your Italian grandma made them from scratch especially for you. Can't get that anywhere else. The cookies are amazing too. Love this bakery! The fresh pasta is top notch! We frequently stop here to buy a few pounds of fusilli and they never disappoint. Last Christmas, I purchased their panettone that they make themselves and then they place them in decorative sacks and top them with a lovely ornament. Gorgeous! Not to mention, the panettone was so fresh and delicious. A few months ago, I ordered two cakes, one for my husband and one for my son. I ordered a cassata cake with Marzipan on top. This is a Sicilian specialty and it can be very difficult to find a bakery that makes this outside of the North End (Modern). The cassata cake was so moist and ricotta filling was just right. They topped the cake off with marzipan fruit that looked so real. Everyone loved it. The other cake was an ice cream cake and was decorated so nicely. The kids loved it. Everyone has their personal gripe about the North End: too crowded, too car hateful, too yuppified, too touristy, too expensive, too guido-y, too Paul Reverey, blah blah blah. Skip the hassle the next time and create your own North End ambiance in the comfort of your own home, blah blah blah: check this place out instead. It's a pasta shop/bakery/small Italian grocery. The fresh pasta prices are slightly more expensive than your standard freezer case-variety Buotoni, but here's the catch: Il P's pasta uses high-quality semolina flour, so the pasta is dense. You open a package of Contadina fresh tortellini and it's easy to eat three-quarters of the whole thing. You'd have to be nuttier than Christopher Moltisanti to do that with this stuff. For real. The leftovers last for a couple of lunches. My fave sauce so far is the boscaiola--smoky, salty tomatoey goodness. They sell cookies pies, cakes and assorted decadent pastries too. Even Nutella, but disappointingly enough, it's the Canadian version, not the far superior Italian version. Oh well. Be forewarned that the guy who runs the place will glare at you like you're going to shoplift something. It's nothing personal. At least, I don't think so. read more

I've lived next to this guy since I was a wee toddler. Tony (the owner) and my father are close friends, and every now and then we buy some pastries or other Italian goods. Let me tell you now, YOU WILL get the urge to come back for more, the pastries are always made fresh and are to DIE FOR! They make cakes for all occasions, weddings, birthday parties, graduations, and are always made-to-order. The gelato in the summer is thick and creamy and is fairly inexpensive. Overall, this place is just awesome. No wonder why it's been in business forever, the customers here are loyal and stop by all the time for their pasta and so on. read more

I have been coming to Il Pastificio for several years now. I order a Rum Cake (Italian style with rum pudding) every year for my B-day and it is always DELISH!!! The also have great homemade pasta; ravioli, spaghetti (etc etc.). My favorite is the Basil Marscapone Ravioli (SOO GOOOD)! I have also tried their Cheese Cake, Tiramisu Cake, Homemade Sorbet and all were excellent. Some people swear by the North End. I personally swear by Il Pastificio. Not only do they have great deserts, but they have great pasta too. Also not only have I seen Italian people shop there, but I have seen them place their orders in Italian. With that said Il Pastificio is a VERY authentic Italian Bakery. I grew up in Malden, MA but now live in New Hampshire where there are no Italian Bakeries. I have been to il Pastificio about half a dozen times now. The pastries are fantastic. I love the rotolo di noci, which is not too sweet and rich with nuts. The pasta is also very good, and so much more affordable than what the new gourmet producers (like "nella pasta") are producing. This last visit I tried the mozarella, which is made right there. It was incredibly delicious, soft and smooth. They are not licensed as a coffee shop, so you have to get everything to go. They make a perfect espresso though, and I always get one. read more

Hands Down the best bakery/pasta shop I have been to to date! Living in the area for a while i had yet to experience this amazing place and I am glad I stopped to check it out. For me to write a review it has to be something that blows me away. Not only is the customer service outstanding, experienced and helpful the food is what set me over the edge. Being part Italian I have had many types of pasta cooked homemade for me over the years. The type of pasta that you know you can't go find at a grocery store because the comparison is not even close. Well GUESS WHAT FOLKS if your looking for that same quality Italian homemade pasta that your Grandmother, Mom. Wife. Fancy Italian Restaurant, etc.. makes, than look no more Because I know I'm not!!
