1. Despite my daily phone calls to Ikea, their contracted delivery company, Dynamex, has continuously failed to contact me to complete a job dated June 5 and schedule a pick-up. 2. Dynamex's policy that furniture be wrapped prior to pick-up is not stated on the Ikea service order: -Ikea did not verbally give me instructions to do so when I arranged delivery at the Richmond Ikea store; -Dynamex personnel did not state these instructions when they were in my home on June 5. They simply said they did not have an order for an additional pick-up, and left; -I suggest that pre-pick-up instructions be clearly printed on Ikea invoices to prevent future problems. 3. I personally called Dynamex twice and talked to an employee, Will, to attempt to schedule a pick-up: -he never mentioned that the delay was due to my failure to wrap the furniture; -he maintained that he was waiting for Ikea to contact him; -when I expressed frustration, he actually said: "No need to get snippy." 4. My schedule is complicated: -I work varying 12-hour shifts (days, nights and weekends) with non-scheduled breaks and go to class every evening: -Dynamex's limited timeframe is not easy to work with, but I arranged this seemingly straightforward and simple job on a day agreeable to all 3 parties involved. 5. This pick-up should now be done at a time compatible with my schedule: -given that I have waited almost 2 weeks for a scheduled and paid-for job; I have been reasonable, but have passed my threshold for patience in this situation. Every time I suggest a workaround, e.g., direct call to Ikea supervisor, direct call to Dynamex, I am faced with obstacles from both companies. While I have received some helpful information, I am largely appalled at the lack of accountability, sense of apathy and obvious unprofessionalism generally displayed by staff, especially at Dynamex, so far. Additionally, I urge Ikea to reconsider its contract with Dynamex. read more

IKEA Richmond is exactly what you expect from a major IKEA location: busy, massive, and full of both chaos and treasure depending on how you navigate it. The layout is classic IKEA -- a full showroom maze up top, marketplace and warehouse below -- but the Richmond location handles the traffic surprisingly well. Even on weekends, the flow keeps moving, and staff are visible enough that you can actually get help when you need it. The product selection is strong. Whether you're hunting for furniture, organizers, lighting, or those random little gadgets you didn't know you needed, this store usually has stock. The warehouse section is well‑organized, and the signage makes it easy to grab your flat‑packs without wandering around forever. Richmond tends to get new seasonal items earlier than some other locations, which is a nice bonus if you like staying ahead of the curve. Service is generally solid. Staff are friendly, patient, and willing to point you in the right direction even when the store is packed. Checkout lines can get long during peak hours, but they move faster than they look. The self‑checkout area helps a lot, especially if you're just grabbing smaller items. The restaurant is a classic IKEA experience -- affordable, consistent, and surprisingly decent. The meatballs, salmon, and desserts are always reliable, and the seating area is kept clean despite the constant turnover. It's a good pit stop before or after the showroom run. Parking is the one area that can get frustrating. The lot is huge, but Richmond traffic plus weekend crowds can make it feel tighter than it should be. If you go during off‑peak hours, the whole experience is much smoother. Overall, IKEA Richmond is a dependable go‑to for furniture, home goods, and the full IKEA ritual. It's busy, but it's efficient. It's chaotic, but it's organized. And it consistently delivers the value and variety IKEA is known for. A strong 4 out of 5. read more

I advise not to shop at this location. Their customer service (especially cashiers) is at worst. I shopped at this location few times, buying some furniture. Of last two visits, I was disgusted at cashiers' manners. First, when self-checking out, there was some errors with my credit card. It was approved and cancelled maybe three times. I don't think it was credit, or chip error. Then, one cashier came, who was east asian, to help, and took my credit card off my hand. Surprised I looked at her face, and she was looking at my credit card, then was having conversation with another cashier for, like, more than 5 minutes, which wasn't related to the problem I was having with. I asked her if I can have my credit card back politely. Then she said rudely I will have my card back after she will do check-out for me herself. O my god! Then I got MY card back. Visits before this, I never had any problem when checking out. Of last visit, which happen to be today (Oct 28, 2015) same problem. I bought a couple of things. When self-checking out, I didn't have any problem, until the check-out machine said I need cashier's assistance. Then one cashier came, who also happened to be an east-asian, to help, and asked me to have my credit card. Then she asked me to see my id to check my signature, before I can sign on my payment??? I don't know if she was serious, or if she was setting me up as credit card thief, and she was playing undercover cop for nonsensical reason. I don't think this location is for anybody who is expecting normal customer service. read more

Terrible customer service and a "NO REFUND" policy for shipping wrong items. I purchased a desk & paid for delivery at the store, and I received the wrong item, which was mislabeled and packaged in a box as though it were the item I wanted to purchase. Ikea has offered a "potential" partial refund for the value of the item (which they have informed me will take at least a month to process because I have to wait for the item to be shipped back to the warehouse and then shipped back to the store it came from before the store "checks and approves" to give me the refund for the desk). While they *may* be giving me a refund for the item they have advised they will NOT give me a refund for the associated shipping costs for this item, which was +50% of total purchase costs (this was the only item I purchased and paid delivery for). I am appalled that Ikea does not take responsibility for an error that they made on their part. I am shocked that Ikea will not offer a full refund when they sent me THE WRONG ITEM. Shipping costs in this case were +50% of the product value. Also, they cannot offer an exchange because the item is out of stock (not the wrong one sent, but the very popular and cheap desk that I thought I was buying). While the ease and "low" prices hook you in, a series of terrible customer service experiences have proven it's actually more expensive in the long term than getting similarly priced items elsewhere. Unfortunately this has marked the end of my era using Ikea. read more

The most frustrating experience ever trying to place an online order. It refused to take any of my four credit cards. No reason given, it just wouldn't work and then would tell me to try paypal. I don't want to use paypal, get your damned website to accept credit cards. Called and spoke to someone and they were no help suggesting I was on the US site when I wasn't. Thought creating an account with them would help. Bad idea. It worked fine until I had to enter my email address for the second time. I tried to copy paste and that didn't work so I tried to manually enter it but for some unknown reason it entered everything in reverse. This annoyed me so I refreshed the page and tried again. This time every time I clicked in the box for the second copy of the email address it would wait until I started typing and then jump up to where I had entered the first copy of the email address and fuck that one up. So basically their website can't accept the most basic form of online payment: credit cards. And their website fucks up the most basic data entry elements known to man: typing where I tell it to and following the top to bottom left to right convention that the English language has followed for hundreds of years. I was trying to place a large order, but it seems that is not possible. read more

We finally decided on the Pax closet storage system when the sale was on. Took the ferry from Victoria to Vancouver to make the purchase. The young fellow picked our boxes for us. And.. picked the wrong system. And... we did not notice this until we put together the second frame and thought...this isn't right, something is wrong, we measured and then freaked out. Too small. Called IKEA, they could not help just said we will have to come back. They could not send the right one and do an exchange. Back, we go, we took a day off work to make the exchange. So now the ferry ride is up to $400. NOT IN THE BUDGET. We do our returns and ask if they are going to honor the sale price and they said NO. Image that!! We asked at the cash desk also, and she said NO! We are now not very happy about IKEA and tempted to just return it all. The instructions are horrible, pictures of two round oversize people. No instructions on line either. Buyer beware. The instructions should come with divorce papers. We like the products but the service and the instruction are bad, bad, bad. read more

I always leave here swearlng that I will not buy another piece of furniture from here but then in just a short while I'm back. I really wish that they would employ more staff members as there is rarely anyone to help. Ikea is a great place to pick up nondescript item like Riba picture frames and dishes for the cottage but I'm not a fan of the self assemble furniture, not only for the obvious reason of self assembly but also that I just can't justify spending money on press board dressers and night tables. The screws strip easily and the boxes are often missing important pieces. I have friend who swear by their kitchens but I've never used their kitchen design services. read more

The store is always great as everybody knows. I love walking through and imagining that I live in some of the amazing rooms that they put together. Man do they do a great job of that!!! Anyways, I wanted to review the restaurant. I usually order pretty well - and get the meatballs, or a hot dog on the way out and am usually satisfied - but this day I got the crepes, and that was a mistake. I couldnt' even eat them, and I suggest that you stay away. They were mushy and unedible. NO CREPES FOR YOU! read more

I have a problem with IKEA at Richmond and its mainly caused by those lazy workers that are on strike! Come one guys, we understand you are upset on the company, but taking your frustration on the customers is not fair! Eventually you have to wake up and realize you do live in a capital country, not Old School China! If you are really upset, just go live in Cuba! read more

They have locked out their union workers for 6.5 months already with no end in sight before Christmas! They are trying to cut their workers pay and the hours guaranteed per week. I will not be shopping at EITHER IKEA until they stop treating their workers so terribly. I hope everyone else reading this will too and tell IKEA to start negotiating again. read more

I admit it, I'm impatient. This place is terrible. I wanted one quick thing. Ten minutes to find it through the maze, 20 minutes to get help to write it up, 5 more minutes to find the register, 30 minutes to have it brought from the warehouse. An hour to buy a sink. 5 minutes tops at a hardware store. I hate the maze. read more

Company should be proud of having a union like that. Thanks the union taking care of these employees, rainy or sunny, day or evening, cold or hot all these months. It supposed to be done by a company to the employees. No wonder these employees love their union. Will not shop the company til this dispute is over. read more
