We were shopping at IKEA and decided to have some dinner here while we were at it. Our daughter got the poutine with some garlic bread while I had the Falafel balls meal which came with couscous. Afterwards we had some of the plant based strawberry ice cream and frozen yogurt for dessert. I did a search on Google and discovered that the gravy for IKEA's poutine is vegetarian so I might try ordering the poutine myself next time. Although...truth be told, it wasn't the most appetizing looking gravy so...maybe not. Cilantro...my mortal enemy. There was cilantro in the couscous that came with my falafel balls. the falafel balls were just OK. Nothing to write home about. The couscous probably would have been decent if there hadn't been any cilantro in it. Uggghhh...why would anyone put cilantro in couscous? Why would anyone put cilantro in anything for that matter? (That second question is coming from the cilantro hater in me) The frozen yogurt and plant based ice cream were the highlights in my opinion. Ikea had a promotion during the summer where certain entrees were 50% off after 11am. Additionally, they had a secondary promotion going on where if you spend $75, you get $25 off. I got the FÖLJSAM oven dish glass 9.6" x 9.6" for only $3.99 and the PRICKIG microwave lid for $1.49. I would love it if it came with a lid option as well. After taking the glass dish home, I noticed a long scratch at the bottom of the dish, so I had to go back to the store to exchange it. I found that most of the stock in store, unfortunately appeared to have minor blemishes. The microwave cover has holes on the top to help steam food better. I was worried this might be an issue with food splatter, but so far no issues yet. My old microwave cover that I bought from somewhere else had a handle at the top. However, Ikea's does not, and I find that at times it can be harder to get a good grip on the cover. Both products are a great deal, but have some things that I would like to see improved. read more

It's a ikea, I did find that some items like shelving units that were long since discontinued in the USA is still being sold here in canada. Obviously the food court had items that were not available yet in the US like samosa's, too bad because they need to take queue from tj's which sells alot of their frozen samosas. Ikea is great when you are looking for something that is not too pricy but average good quality items. The only complain I have here is the layout. The way the store is laid out, they basically forces people to walk around the entire store. Parking is not bad at this location. It is less crazy compared to the Richmond location. I have a feeling that this Ikea is bigger than the Richmond location or maybe it just has much more better selections. I dropped by the pick up some plates and hot pads for my belated Canadian Thanksgiving dinner. Paid $0.99 per plate and the hot pad for 3 for $3.99. That is not bad. Majority of this review will be based on the restaurant as that has the biggest room for growth given the companies lack of care for it and it's staff. on a Friday night during dinner time (600-730) the restaurant was PACKED. there was a line up to the stairs heading down to the market. We've been when it's been busy before (I mean when it isn't) but the problem seemed to be lack of staff. With that being said - the staff were very kind and courteous it just seemed severely under staffed (I appreciate there is a shortage so this is said lightly). The food was good and the poutine was delicious. They only had one cashier on and there were a couple people asking for a refund (me included) to which she told us that there wasn't one on duty and she was trying to get a hold of one. Aside from waiting - we went to grab a drink since we bought a glass - unfortunately the one drink dispenser that everyone was hounded around was broken/no syrup and only water was available. In my opinion this wasn't well maintained as there were many customers upset about it, and a lot of stand around staff not doing much to address this. So much to the point the one cashier had to go to the back to tell someone to add syrup. While we were told it would take a minute - in the half hour I was there nothing was done. I don't blame her because again she was the only one working the till, I blame management for their poor planning and staffing. The manager that finally did come upstairs to process 5 refunds looked like she was off shift and just in the neighbourhood as she came in regular clothes, in a rush, didn't address anyone and had her two kids with her. The store itself was clean and filled with lots of eager customers or window shoppers. There were some staff available but not necessarily readily available. With that being said, we had shopped on our own and didn't require help so assistance wasn't needed on our end - this was just a mere observation of those around us. read more

My experience was pleasant and easy. I was able to find what I was looking for and some... There were some staff around, but it was kind of hard to track them down. Lucky I didn't require any assistance. Value to price, I find IKEA's products to be fair. Obviously, the more you spend the better the materials used. I've been buying from IKEA for many years and I haven't had any major issues besides paint scratches. I've been able to enjoy my furniture for many years. Another disappointing IKEA store. The restaurant is not good at all. My wife's lunch was burned. My haddock and chips were obviously frozen and not well prepared. The food at the other Vancouver IKEA is poor as well, so we'll avoid eating at the Vancouver IKEA stores from now on. The store is large and well laid out, but has no atmosphere. I feel like I'm shopping at Macy's or some other department store that I'm just not interested in being in. My experience of shopping in Portland IKEA was that it was fun, forward thinking, engaging, challenging. The Vancouver stores seem drab, plain, conservative. The food is bad, the people serving the food seem resentful and unfriendly. I know IKEA has great designers, and is capable of having engaging stores, so it must be local management. Normally I go to IKEA Richmond but as the item was sold out at there, I came to Coquitlam. Glad I made. They had lots. But on showroom floor, they didn't display it. Therefore I straight to warehouse to pick up one in the box. I don't like to buy without seeing but I came here all the way and didn't want to go home with empty hands. It's like a gambling. I have visited twice within the last few months and I am disappointed with the cafe for snacks. Every time that I visit this location they have the vegan ice cream option on display but it is not available for order when I try to buy it. I don't understand why it it advertised when it is not available at this location time and time again. We also discovered that multiple items that were on display in their showcase pieces were not available for purchase. I would highly recommend you search online to see if there is the product you're looking for in store before you make the trip so that it makes it worth your time. We did grab some cinnamon buns and 2 were just over $3, which is a great deal. I highly recommend their vegan hotdogs as they're a great snack or light meal! Their food is always pretty good we just hope to see an improvement in the advertised items being in stock. An over-sized maze! Ikea is a swedish company that sells more affordable. You have to assemble the furniture yourself and it can be confusing. Lunch at Ikea means waiting in line for 20 minutes, in my experience. Crazy huge, over sized store with a lot of parking underneith and beside. There is no in and out in this store. You must go the distance. Even if you spend an hour here, there is a good chance you will walk away with little more then a lamp. The housing accessories are cheap and simple. This review is specifically for the vegan burger sold at the IKEA Foodbox. I dropped by the Foodbox truck 10 mins before they closed, eager to try the vegan burger that I had heard so much about. I ordered it with cheese (not 100% sure if the cheese is vegan), and it was made very quickly. The patty itself wasn't that bad! Good flavour and texture but not as hot as I would've liked. It didn't taste like beef which I wasn't expecting anyway. The bun was straight up cold and the cheese wasn't fully melted because of the lack of heat. The veggies were super fresh and crispy though! I want to come back and try this burger again during a better time because I'm not sure if I just came at a bad time since they were about to close the truck up. read more

For furniture, come on ahead, there have tons, and tons of furniture, and other items you may be looking for, like cutlery, plants, paintings, and food, yes, I am here to write about the restaurant upstairs. If your looking for a cheap solution to your breakfast, lunch or dinner, and you have to go out, and maybe you have one of these around your corner, come in, and you will be surprised at the selection of dishes they have for very affordable prices. The restaurant area is set up like a cafeteria, you pick your food, get your food on a trey, pay the cashier, find your seat, and eat. On a sign, it reads, they keep there low prices as you clean up your own mess at where you sit. So after your done, please put your tray in the rollers provided. On this day I had the pasta special, which was vegetarian tomato sauce, and noodles for $1.99, and I added meatballs to it, which was $1.49, and also a piece of garlic bread $0.49. It was filling, and I was stuffed. They have other specials too, like $1 breakfast, and many kids meals, too much to name, but definately worth the eat. If you go to the downstairs market area, they also have 50 cent hotdogs, they aren't big, but at that price, it really doesn't matter. read more

You know Vancouver is awesome when they build not 1, but 2 Ikeas here. Parking is plentiful. I really like the "parking lot directly under the building" approach, which reminds me of the Superstore in Richmond. Their products are designed with practicality in mind, and it really shows. I like how you can buy a $30 lamp here instead of a $100 lamp elsewhere, for example. They are moving into everything from light fixtures to kitchenware to prepackaged food. Almost anything from your home can be found here. Of course, the best part is the cafeteria with the hot dogs. Yes I'm still choked at the fact their hot dogs now cost 75c instead of 50c (damn you, inflation!), but the $1 frozen yogurt cones help dry my tears a little bit. I make it a habit to waste a little cash here every time I'm over. One last thing: be sure to swing by the "As Is" (aka Clearance/damaged goods) section which is near the checkout area. They'll be selling things such as leather sofas with a small nick (on the back where you can't even see) for 30% off, for example. Many good deals to be had if you want to save even more. Hopefully the people of Coquitlam don't feel so left out anymore after so many years of having to drive to Richmond. Oh wait, Richmond now has an even newer store, oh snap. read more

Well first, they had exactly what I was looking for. Thank you IKEA :) It's impressive to me, how the bug stores are stepping up their game to stay relevant. The cafeteria section of the store, opens 1/2 hour early and serves a value priced breakfast, within a very clean and modern setting. The bathroom was meticulously clean and offer dyson hand dryers. The store even has courtesy phones, lockers and diapers for customer use. Overall I don't feel as though IKEA is keeping up with the Jones, I think the Jones maybe trying to keep up with them. read more

Let's be honest. You don't go to IKEA for their build-it-yourself furniture. You go to drop off your kid(s) for some free babysitting while you indulge in their cheap food. Coquitlam IKEA's cafeteria had a 10 minute lineup on a Wednesday noontime. I tried the organic/free range chicken Caesar salad and an "ethically raised" salmon wrap. Also ordered their fish (haddock) and chips and a slice of caramel cake. The chicken was very moist, tender and tasty which was unexpected as it appears as if it was prepared hours earlier. The salmon wrap, on the other hand, was all soggy and limp as the wrap had absorbed all the moisture from the fillings. The salmon tasted rather bland too. The fish and chips were horrible. I'm used to either cod or halibut at the local fish and chip establishments. The haddock was flavorless and texture-less. The breading was thin, and soft rather than thick and crunchy. Fries were cold by the time I paid and got a table. The cake was okay, but did not make up for an otherwise weak dining experience. read more

I am usually a HUGE Ikea fan, having shopped a lot at their stores in every city I've lived in (which is many!), and I particularly love their holiday wares, so I make it a point to visit at least once in late November or early December, to stock up on inexpensive and cute holiday decor, gifts, wrapping stuff and Unicef cards. I also love their cafeteria deals (LOVE their Swedish meatball meal!) and their foods-for-purchase. Since moving to Vancouver a few years ago, I've been to their Richmond store at least ten times (LOVE that store!). But last week there was a specific holiday item I needed, and I verified online AND by calling Ikea's centralized number (for their customer support), and found out that this item was not available at the Richmond store, but the rep on the phone and online verified that this item WAS at this Coquitlam store. So despite it being FAR away from me, and despite the fact that I've never been there and had NO idea how to get there, and despite the fact that it was pouring rain out, I decided, what the hell, I'm adventurous, right? So, much like the Pioneer Woman, I forged ahead, jazzed for my adventure, excited to get the prize (the object of my quest)!. What a disaster. I won't comment on the "lovely" commute on the "lovely" Vancouver highways in the "lovely" weather, surrounded by all the "lovely" passive-aggressive drivers. No, it's no Ikea's fault that the drive there was a horror show. But I WILL ding Ikea on all the dismal factors that WERE its fault: -their system is such that you can't call any one store directly. You need to call a central number (1-866). The wait on hold for me was 27 minutes. The rep was super nice and she even checked the availability of my item at Richmond, before telling me it was available at Coquitlam, and she even told me the specific item number and the aisle and bin number, where to find it. She was very helpful. -their system is such, when you look up various items online and check their availability in the store in question, they won't let you purchase the item online and hold it for you. (For some larger items, you can do just this, as with their furniture. But for smaller items, there's no way to buy them online or have the store hold them for you). -when I got to the store I immediately made my way to the aisle and "bin" where my item was. And I couldn't find it. I walked up and down the area repeatedly, to no avail. I found an employee who wandered the area too and then checked on a computer and double checked with his supervisor on his walkie-talkie: the item was NOT IN STOCK. It was sold out. WTH? I had spoken to the rep on the phone AND checked availability at this very store online less than one hour earlier. It's a flawed system, that this could happen. -I might add that the layout of the parking lot must have been designed by someone who never drove a car in his/her life. SO BAD. I can't comment on this particular store's various departments, café or other features; I was so wrought out and disappointed after my "adventure" here, I left without buying one thing. A first for me, at any Ikea. (At least I had visited the Richmond store two weeks earlier and got a ton of things). So much for my Pioneer Women days. I really miss the 50 cent priced hotdogs which now costs 75 cents. The $1 ice cream cones seemed smaller than what they used to be as well. However, I do like the fact they offer a swirl cone which McDonald's has long discontinued. These cheap items used to be my favourites during my poor student days. I rarely get the hotdogs now but I do still occasionally get a cone and try some of the other items. The seating/standing section is usually a mess. I made a purchase over $1000 at Ikea and paid to have it delivered. The delivery company came the next day to drop off the items at my home. AND DAMAGED MY BASE BOARDS. A whole chunk of the corner has fallen off. Did I mention I just moved in a couple of weeks prior, and this is a BRAND NEW space? Did I also mention that I made my purchase on July 27th, 2013? Yes, that's a whole month ago. So what have I been doing for the last month? Well first, I contacted Ikea and was advised that they'd file a claim for me, and also advised I called the company they use for deliveries - Dynamex to let them know. "They should get back to you within a few days - they'll send a contractor out to take a look and then fix the damage." Okay, great. One week passes. I call Dynamex again. No one. I call Ikea. "Oh I can't help you. Because this is a different company, you'll have to contact them. They are they only ones that can fix this." I get it. I work in the retail industry. I get it. I do. So I contacted them. Again. Nothing. So I contact Ikea again. "I'm so sorry. I'll try to contact them for you. Oh, I've only gotten to voice mail. I left a voice mail for you. Let me try another number I have. Oh voicemail. I left another one. They should call you back soon." And Dynamex should right? How many messages do they have now about the same situation? 5? 10? 15? Within this past month, I have contacted BOTH companies repeatedly. At this point, I'm pissed. Ikea just keeps leaving me voice messages telling me they can't help me. I have to contact the delivery company. I GET THAT. BUT THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIVE! And if Ikea can't get in touch with them, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO? Really, you can't escalate this to management? No one knows how to contact them? You don't have an account rep or anything? That's great - sounds like an awesome partnership! Dynamex has completely ruined my experience with Ikea, and Ikea obviously doesn't care. By the way, when you call Dynamex with the number Ikea provides you, you get the voice message "thank you for contacting the Ikea delivery department!" And Ikea's telling me that they are a completely separate company? They have absolutely no responsibility or connection to them? Inflation must be happening even with Ikea. The $1 beakfast is gone. It is now $2......booooo. This is my second breakfast at Ikea. Anyhooooo, I was in this store to buy a specific toy for my daughter because it was not available at the Richmond location, so breakfast it was. I gotta be honest, for $2, you cannot expect much. Cold powdered scrambled eggs, hash browns that were tasteless, and mystery meat that was likely sodium infused fat and bread crumb filler that pretended to be sausage. The meal was on the ummmmmmm...... meh side. However, for $2, I cannot complain and act like I didn't know what was coming. I got what I expected. That said, I could have spent $0.95 + tip more, and went to Bon's! Surprisingly, the coffee was decent. I even went and bought a bag. We'll see how it turns out when I make it at home. I won't lie, I'm a big fan of IKEA. I always start off each visit with a stop at the restaurant for meatballs, soup (sometimes) and lingonberry​ drink. There's nothing to knock about their food, you get a decent amount for a low price. And there's always plenty of seating so even when it's​ at its busiest, you will be able to get a seat at a table to enjoy your meal. Now on my most recent trip to this location, I did notice that they were in the middle of renovations​/changing things and so it was a little bit of a mess getting around the showroom. But being such a fan of the store, I'm used to this. Just wish that things were a bit more marked cause I did get slightly confused as to which way I had to go and I know a few others did as well. read more

I've been an Ikea customer for a while now and I have to say that a lot of the older furniture and decoration I have in my place is still holding on well thats why I was a loyal customer for years but not anymore. I recently when to Ikea to buy some dishes to replace my older Ikea set, the only reason I decided to get new ones is because couple of the plates from the old set broke. I was scammed by Modus Enterprises. IKEA has a service through Modus Enterprises where you pay $250 for a 4 hour in home kitchen consultation. If you end up ordering your kitchen from ikea you get this amount credited towards your kitchen. I set up an appointment. She arrived on time but couldn't figure out her software. She was onsite for an hour. I had to sign that I was happy with her service which was also ridiculous because I didn't receive anything yet. A few days later I get a poor design and an invoice asking for more money. I had to involve the manager to get her to finish the design and quote. It was such a hassle. I felt held hostage as I wanted the ikea quote. I ended up going with a Merit kitchen and just wrote off the $300 I spent for a crappy service from Modus. Stay away from Modus. Regardless of the price you do not stick hot wieners into cold buns. I mean took them right out of the bag cold. I enquired if they could heat the buns, they said no. I noticed they have a steaming trays they put the buns but it does not appear to get them warm or keep warm. In the world of low budget hotdogs, IKEA is the worst. Since then, I've been going to Ikeas all over Canada even when I graduated to buying my furniture in more "grown-up" furniture stores. The Coquitlam Ikea is close to my home and has a nice covered parking lot for those often rainy days. I just wish the check-out had direct access to the parking similar to the Etobicoke Ikea in Ontario. Ikea still has a good selection of furniture and some of them are actually made with hardwood. Nowadays, I head directly to the Marketplace downstairs as they have a great selection of housewares (very important to me who just moved across the country.) Beyond the check-out is their Grocery area where frozen meatballs, fish, Lingonberry, Glog, ginger snaps (the best!) and Daim chocolates are sold. The cafeteria is my favorite part of Ikea because it offers some decent fare and oftentimes for minimal price. My favorite is the Swedish Meatballs eaten in their dining room above the parking lot overlooking Hwy 1. I can see people just come to Ikea to have coffee because it's peaceful. The cafeteria folks just need to be quicker in cleaning-up the general eating area. read more

A+ for Design Model and Concept. Ya know, I thought IKEA was the coolest as a kid, and in more recent years avoided it at all costs because it seemed like every furniture-piece I saw in friends/fam homes was from IKEA! I haven't been back for about 3 years until most recently. So, my thoughts now: total appreciation for the creative concept and design process. Crafted for the optimal consumer experience, IKEA's layout walks consumers through a methodical process from showcase to warehouse checkout while selling experience and interaction. Plus, it's designed to be enjoyable for all ages and offers good stylish pieces at a remarkably low prices. Lol, you probs already know this, but just bringin' it to light! Plus their infamous $1 breakfast ... who knew a buck could go so far?! I didn't realize it before, but it's model is truly brilliant. Can't speak for the furniture quality though as I don't have any big pieces from here. Also, not sure how their behind-the-scenes global operations, manufacturing and production side of things work, but if it's been well-thought out like they've done for the consumer end, totally understandable how they are one of the leading design companies of the world. read more
