I'm torn in this one! Yes, it is the biggest Ikea in Canada, therefore it's obviously huge. I will lay out the pros and cons: Pros: -Great prices, some dollar-store deals on small items -Super-yummy and CHEAP cafeteria -Lots of parking Cons: -it's literally a maze, be prepared to walk a lot -the checkouts are slow Well folks, that's all I really have to say about that! read more

Alright, alright - the place is ginormous. So much so that I'm always exhausted after I leave and feel like I've accomplished some great feat (Andrea - you just dropped $200 again - that is NOT an accomplishment). As Tanya said, I'm sort of thrilled that they finally have all the catalogue items in stock, I remember being disappointed a lot in the old location. I'm one of those people that really loves Ikea food - especially their chicken and fries, hot dogs and fro yo. Now that I think of it, it's probably good it takes me so long to walk through this place. I really like the underground parking - it's much less stressful than the old parking lot. I think it's really cool that they have preferred parking for hybrids (even though I don't have one), and families (do Finn and Cory count?). If you're looking for inspiration this location is fantastic since the second floor is literally ALL showrooms. If you're like me and have gone through the catalogue enough to have most of the inspiration you need, you can head straight to the first floor to the warehouse and checkout area. Don't come here in a bad mood - it will get worse. People can be pushy (hey, they're not all from Ottawa), and it can get super crowded. The best time to go, if you can swing it, is mid-day during the week, or right after work. Avoid weekends if you want to keep your sanity. read more

Who doesn't love IKEA? Sure, it's easy to lose a few hours in here, but if you know what you need, it can be a fun place to tour through on a Saturday afternoon before picking up what you came for in the marketplace. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the restaurant has a few gluten-free goodies on hand; I tried the almond and marzipan cake and it was a great mid-shopping snack! Everything in this IKEA is in great shape; things are easy to find, staff are helpful and the self-checkouts are actually pretty simple to use. My only suggestion (and this really applies to all IKEA locations everywhere) is that I wish the swedish market came before the checkout as I hate having a cart full of items ready for the car but still wanting to grab a few jars of lingonberry jam! read more

I used to go the old IKEA store quite often and could find many things to buy. The new one is much bigger, but it is hard to find something good. e.g. I bought many hand towels from the old store for my business, $49c each. Now the price is the same but its size gets small and the quality is really poor. I would like to see higher price for the same quality as before. The food court in IKEA is still good though. read more

There's this awesome story line from 30 Rock where Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) and then beau Criss (James Marsden) have to go shopping at Ikea, disregarding the warnings that all couples who enter will leave in a fight. I have this story in mind pretty much every time I enter the Ottawa Ikea which due to its large size and maze-like layout feels a bit like a social experiment meant to generate couple frustration. I think because I realize how this can be a terrible shopping experience, my husband and I plan accordingly. We got at off peak times such as 8pm on a Tuesday night. We come with a list of things we need and know to check the store layout for where things are. We're flexible knowing that things such as scented candles will often magically make their way into our cart. Yes, the cashier lines are always long, so we'll aim to do a self-checkout and as we wait we'll play with all of the impulse items. Finally, we end our trip with their frozen yogurt, which is actually pretty good. Also, I find it difficult to be mad while enjoying frozen yogurt, I'm not an animal! read more

My family and I have spent thousands of dollar shopping at Ikea. That will no longer happen and this is why: Last December I purchased a futon to use as a sofa. After TWO months the wooden slat is split. I contacted customer service, emailed them a picture of the defective futon, and they determined that the damage was "as a result of undue pressure having been applied to the slat". I assured customer service that this futon was used under normal circumstances and it was clear that this product was defective. (Surprisingly they have not defined what undue pressure was applied.) It is disappointing that when you spend money on an item that you expect to use for several years, it turns out to be defective. It's so easy for retailers to sell consumers products, yet when there's a problem, their return policies make the consumer feel like they've committed a crime. This must have been an omen in December: During the check out process, I requested assistance to load this futon into my mini-van. The cashier assured me that someone would be there to help me and my daughter. Since there were no Ikea staff as promised, my daughter and ended up loading our purchases into my van by ourselves! I will definitely not be shopping at Ikea in the future! read more

If I could put zero for stars, I would. This is the WORSE experience with any retailer I have ever experienced. We ordered our products, set a delivery date, not once, not twice, not three times but waiting get this resolved a fourth time. They set dates and delivery times and not only don't show up, they don't even call or contact you to follow up. When this gets resolved, I will not be buying from Ikea anytime soon. When you do get through on the phone, they put you on hold and then hang up!!! This is customer service???? read more

I have to say - Ikea is not the easiest place to shop. Can't believe that their recent change where you can't just pick something (in my case a small table) off the shelf anymore as some items can only be picked up at the "furniture pick-up" after you pay for it and then wait in a cue for it to be brought out. This "efficient" new procedure added a good 25 minutes to my Ikea "experience" (from the time I had to track down an Ikea staff and have them place the order, to going through the checkout and then waiting 10 more minutes for the small table to be brought to the desk for pick-up. You can likely tell from my tone that I did not appreciate this royal waste of time. What a ridiculous system. It might make sense if it was big items that someone would then help you with in terms of taking them to your car but nooooo. As I waited in the cue for my number to appear on the screen, other people were picking up small items as well. Absolutely a waste of time. Luckily this is the last item I was waiting for and will not have to go back to Ikea in the near future. read more

When you're walking through IKEA it's like going through a maze did you don't know where anything is if you going to go through everything do you definitely need to make sure you have time and not in a rush. The food in the restaurant area is very reasonable price and very good. I Kia is very clean inside and it makes you feel like you're in mini little parts of houses to give you an idea of what you would want in your place. Some prices are reasonable but definitely look around read more

I like thIs store bbt the Returns area is a major fail. Especially on Saturday. I realize its generally a busy day in retail however I'm sure IKEA reAlizes that too. So why don't t rhey have more cashiers to return purchases ? It's mid day and there are 1/3 of the cash counters closed for returns. This isn't the first time I've experienced this situation .... and today I've been here almost 40 minutes and still not served. There are approx 50 people waiting. IKEA could you please please make this a better experience for customers by putting on more staff for returns during busy times ie on Saturday.. read more

Okay... so my experience here wasn't the greatest. There was a lamp I really wanted... but no selection on lamp shades! My sister told me as I was picking out my lamp that you can only use ikea light bulbs on some of the lamps. So I asked a employee if the lamp can take normal everyday light bulbs. The employee looked at me as if I was crazy for even asking and told me the lamp takes normal light bulbs not just ikea ones. My sister and I were still arguing about the stupid lamp till we got in line at the cash. Lol. So we asked another employee can this lamp take normal every day light bulbs? The employee hesitated then said of course! And handed me a box of normal light bulbs. I opened the light bulb box while waiting in line and guess what... the light bulbs didn't fit the lamp!!! Yup! Two employee's pretty much lied to me so they could sell the item. Or they just really dont know anything about the products they sell. I was also looking for a specific mirror and couldn't find it. I Tried to get more then one employee to help me find it. But they kept pointing me in different directions. Then one employee said sorry but we must be out of stock. When it said online they had 11 in stock at that location. But not one employee could find it. So... I called back the next day to see if they have any in stock. They said they had 25 in stock but couldn't put one aside for me. So I go back the next day with my friend and he found the mirror in less then ten minutes. Even their own employees couldn't help me find it... lol thank god my friend saved the day! So long story short... they have nice products... but don't count on the staffs help. read more

I bought some furniture (e.g. sofa-bed, queen-size beds, chests of drawers, book shelves, mirrors, etc) for my two bedrooms and for my basement. It is a mid-class or below store. The display room is a maze with many paths, you easily get lost and confused. Some furniture are stylish, some are not looking good. The customer service there looks good. The delivery is quick, and the return service is also good - I have return several items with little explanation. To save time, it is best that you do homework at home with your computer, i.e. shop IKEA online first, then go to IKEA store get the items on their stock shelf. read more

Had to do some furniture shopping and spent 2 hours in IKEA store today. The new one inherited the maze layout from the old one; it is nice to browse but time consuming to shop what you need. Our main concern: the moth infestation. We would refrain to buy any upholstered furniture there. The second problem: they do not take Amex cards. The cashier said "they are not popular with us" - how could they be popular if you don't take them? The exit signage from the parking lot is confusing. As usual, they have some good meals. read more

I have recently moved to Ottawa, and needed furniture for my condo. Back in August, I went Ikea shopping (I have always loved going to Ikea). I picked out my furniture, and a polite (though technology slow) woman helped me sort out my home delivery and assembly dates. She told me my delivery would come on Sept 3rd, between 9 and 12 (when I had my elevator for my building booked), and the assembly team would come a few days later. I left Ikea content that everything was booked. Fast forward to September 2nd, I had specifically come to Ottawa to accept my Ikea delivery the next day. At 10pm, I received a text message that my purchase would be delivered between 12-4 the following day. Confused and concerned (because my building didn't allow deliveries outside scheduled elevator times) I called Ikea. I was on the phone for over an hour, to be told that the woman who had took my order originally had messed up the application. There was no way for my delivery to come during my elevator time, so I rescheduled my delivery for another week, when I had already had the elevator booked for another delivery. Of course I was upset, because I would be living in Ottawa for a week with no furniture, but there was nothing I could do to fix it. (The following day at 2, I received a call from the delivery people saying they were on there way, but told them the delivery got rescheduled to the following week.) The following week, my mom flew into Ottawa for the night to ensure that the deliveries I had planned for that day ran smoothly. It was 3:15 (my elevator was booked till 4) and I still hadn't heard anything from ikea. I called, and became concerned when they didn't have my reference number in the system. They transferred me to someone else, who called the delivery company, and turns out that the system was never rebooted and my delivery was not on the way, nor would it be able to arrive for at least a few days. I am now going on 2 weeks without any furniture because of the delivery service of the company. The people on the phone have been very helpful throughout this entire situation, but I can't believe that my furniture is still not here. They haven't even offered free delivery, even though they have messed up the delivery twice. It is doesn't arrive the next time, I will be very angry and very disappointed because of the amount of time and money I have wasted. read more

I recently had a large order of items delivered from ikea (I ordered online). The delivery staff were pleasant to work with, but due to the poor labelling of the boxes, were unsure of what was in them - this made it frustrating and difficult for me as well as the delivery men as I was unable to direct them efficiently. I do not blame the delivery men for this. Perhaps the labelling of items needs to be more clear. read more

Always a fun place to be. I enjoy underground parking and the kids area. The lay who often works at the kids area never smiles and is always bitchy. But I've never had a problem with that. I used to love the restaurant at Ikea, the food was good and so affordable. Yesterday I had the butter chicken it was good but some pieces were really chewy, the pieces were pink, they looked uncooked. even my husband and daughter agreed. my husband took it back and the lady serving food said it was impossible as everything is steamed to a certain temperature and those pieces must have been dark meat. she wouldn't replace it! Come on now what happened to costumer service! I ate the rice and left the chicken behind. I don't know if it was coincidence but it was a very gassy/uncomfortable shopping experience. read more

I love Ikea, just not this IKEA in Ottawa. It's the same general layout as IKEAs in other areas, but somehow it felt chaotic and confusing. And unkempt. The store flow was not straight forward - where are the carts? Where am I going next? Where exactly am I? It seemed understaffed and disorganized. We didn't see many employees on the sales floor, couldn't find anyone to help in the linens/textile department and despite signs to the contrary in the pickup area, there was no one to help pull heavy boxes off the shelves. Thank God my daughter and I come from sturdy farming stock and can handle really heavy boxes - it just would have been nice to have some assistance. The cafeteria is a good value, and the staff was proficient and friendly. The seating area wasn't clean though, and I didn't see any employees wiping tables off or tidying the drink station. We did purchase what we planned, but it wasn't a pleasant, enjoyable experience. Not sure I'll be visiting this particular location again. IKEA has always equaled "happy" for me. The Ottawa store was not a happy experience at all, very sorry to say. read more
