TL;DR/The Short Version: I like browsing the store and buying small items. I like the restaurant. However, buying appliances is a pain. They only deliver to inside your front door (not to the actual room your appliance needs to be) and they don't offer removal of the old appliance. The Long Version: So I do like IKEA products. I like the aesthetic, the prices and the cool Swedish names of the items. I find the store fun to browse. I also really like the restaurant. The meals are inexpensive and tasty for cafeteria-style food. What I'm not so happy about with Ikea is their delivery policy for appliances. So we bought an induction stove from Ikea. The price was amazing, as it was on clearance. Ikea gets other brands to make their appliances. We did our research. Our stove is the Tvärsäker, which is exactly the same as the Frigidaire GCRI3058AF, except lower in cost. Purchasing online and booking the delivery went smoothly. The delivery guys came within the scheduled time frame, so that was good. However, they just brought the stove to inside the front door, as that is their delivery policy. I would have been so much happier if IKEA offered delivery where the deliverers actually bring the appliance to the appropriate room. I also would have been happier if they also offered old appliance removal. I've bought from places like Corbeil, Home Depot, and Dufresne, and all these places offer delivery to the actual room in your house where the appliance will be and they offer removal of the old appliance. So I consider these places before IKEA for large appliance purchases. I'll continue to buy items from IKEA that I can transport myself without hesitation. I will continue to dine at the IKEA restaurant without thinking twice. However, I would only buy large appliances from IKEA again if the price was so amazing that it would be worth the hassle of having to bring it to the appropriate room myself and having to arrange for disposal of the old appliance myself. Sometimes, I find something cool, already built in the clearance area. I get the odd score. But I love the candles...votives and tea lights. I had an absolutely horrible experience at the Ottawa store tonight. For background, I've shopped at IKEA many times, spending thousands there over the years. Tonight, my family and I went in to buy a futon cover because our old one was getting worn out. I realized quickly that I couldn't just pick up a cover from the shelf. Instead, I had to place the order through a kiosk, pay at the checkout, and pick up the item at the furniture pickup area. That seemed acceptable-enough ... how long could it take to get a small item? Well ... after paying, I went to the kiosk and saw a screen displaying a handful of people waiting. I waited 15 minutes as that number waiting rose to 12. Meanwhile, my family, which included my wife, daughter of 8, and son of 2, had meandered over and were waiting. It was getting close to my boy's bedtime. They finally called ONE number, and then nothing. There was one young woman behind the counter, and another who brought out that item. I asked the latter if I could please get my item, as my son needed to get home for bed. She went into the back room and came back to say no -- I had to wait. Then she went on break. For the next 15 minutes (now 30 minutes waiting), no items were called. I went back up to the counter, now empty, and waited to talk to someone. The young woman stationed at the counter came back from the warehouse behind her. I asked if I could please get my item or my money back. I really had to leave. She couldn't get me my item, she said, because she couldn't leave the counter (then where was she while I waited to ask that question?). She said I could go talk to the people at the returns area nearby to get my money back. I went over there, and the man told me that he couldn't help me -- there was a line of people sitting around waiting to be helped there. He told me I could leave and my order might be cancelled and returned to my card. Baffled, but having to get my toddler to bed, I drove my family the 15-minute ride home, then drove back to the store where my item was FINALLY ready. The lack of service offered to customers who make the effort to go into this physical store was such an awful experience. They turned my happy demeanour going for a nice family outing into an overwhelming frustration fuelled by the Kafkaesque nightmare of their "customer service." I have spent tens-of-thousands of dollars at IKEA over the years. I will not spend another dime there EVER AGAIN. read more

Ordered three small in-stock items at a kiosk. Went to the furniture pick up desk. My order number was 12 down on the queue to be filled. I watched my number get closer to being filled. Then, my order began being bumped down the queue. Went to the desk, was told that orders were not always filled as received...?? waited another 20 minutes! My order continued to be bumped down the queue! Went to the desk again, he went to look for my items himself. Came out about 3 minutes later. It shouldn't matter how large your order is, you should be served as you ordered your items. I waited 1 1/2 hours for three items!! there should be more staff putting orders together. read more

Love IKEA but sometimes I wish it was possible to just walk through to the restaurant or just pick up a few things and leave. My mom and I visited recently with my 5 month old. They have a great nursing/feeding room next to the restaurant. There is a room set up with a chair, changing table, sink and children's play kitchen. There is a bathroom connected with kids pottys. The restaurant has high chairs readily available and seems to be well set up for parents bringing their babies and kids. The meal was good, we shared the plant balls (plant based meatballs) dish and the butter chicken. I prefer the regular meatballs or the vegetable balls. Overall it was a good day at IKEA and we found most of what we were looking for. Stock can be low for popular items and I have found that sometimes their online inventory is not up to date. One great change is that you can now order for pick up and there is no additional fee. If you are driving there is covered parking as well as charging for electric vehicles. read more

***** Review for the IKEA Restaurant ***** Visiting to do shopping for family who was moving to buy some furniture and accessories for home. After shopping for a couple of hours and living just on coffee since morning, we were starving. Stood in a line up and registered for self serve dining. The line up moved fairly quick and we were given instructions what do and what not to do. As usual the food here is catered to all Vegans, Vegetarians and with enough choices for meat options as well. Mrs took a veggie wrap, a tomato and cheese soup and fries to share and I took a veggie balls, with rice and steamed veggies. Of course coffee as well. All the food has the least amount of spice and salt, which is healthy for just almost all of the dietary restrictions. The spice level of the food is below what I prefer, but I thoroughly enjoy the food. I really appreciate that IKEA takes the vegetarian and vegans in mind when they set up the menu. read more

I love ikea! I always go there with the intention to buy one thing,and then come out with a cart full. I hope I'm not the only one who does this. I feel like the Ottawa location is always nice and tidy. I love the selection that there is for pretty much everything in your house. I also have to give them the five star because they are a company trying to create less wasteful packaging. Food: Now the fun part, Food is very affordable. They offer lots of selection: from salad, soups to warm meal, wraps and sandwiches. I believe everyone will find some things that they like. I also have a few vegan or vegetarian options. I have personally tried the veggie meatballs. They taste good, But my favourites have to be the butter chicken or the regular meatballs. Honestly you can have a meal with a drink for less than $10. After spending 2 hours inside IKEA having loads of fun, we came back to the vehicle to discover it had been in a hit and run (cue my sad tears) ! I was advised to push the emergency button on the column by an employee who said it would reach security. Security for the IKEA premises came within moments and helped me by taking my information and checking their security footage. By the time I got home, I had an email stating they found the car that hit mine, took photo evidence of my paint job on their car, and have saved the footage for my police report :) This security team deserved major kudos. This was my first time at an IKEA in recent memory (I apparently went when I was three). Perceptions prior to the visit were that it's a place where relationships are broken, it's Disney Land for adults, and you might get lost. Due to COVID-19 countermeasures, there was a line up outside. Unfortunately for us, there was also torrential rain. People lining up were soaked. Aside from that, staff wore masks and the cafeteria was cleaned rigorously. It's probably just my lack of perception, but I wasn't fond of the showroom being non-linear. We were searching for office desks, and we completely missed the section for them the first time around. We got ourselves a bed, end table, bookshelf, and two desks. I found the instructions helpful and somewhat amusing. Once we bought everything, we went to the cafeteria. I had Swedish meatballs, but apparently not for the first time; when I was three years old, I had some meatballs and disliked it. I argue that three-year-old me was uncultured and these meatballs were fantastic. Overall this place was, by all means, an IKEA. read more

Ok, Believe it or not, I survived a visit to IKEA! I have to admit that it wasn't nearly as terrifying as I expected it to be. Not being a huge fan of this chain to begin with, I have avoided the largest IKEA store in Canada until now. And... it was a lot better than I thought it would be! The new rendition is a lot more comfortable to browse in than the old layout was; it's the illusion of space inside! It is bright inside, and the pathways are wider and seem to be less cluttered than the old layout was. They are, after all, promoting the maximization of available space. It's funny how they had to expand to do this! I was also surprised that it was less costly than I had anticipated it would be; I even purchased a few items! I wasn't expecting to come out with anything after this visit. We just moved into a new (to us) smaller house, which is sorely lacking in storage space. No pantry! How on earth did the previous owners even survive?! Where can I hide my bread machine, and our blender?? As a result, we are looking to expand the kitchen in our current house, which contains an IKEA kitchen. The people who helped us move, walked in and exclaimed "oh nice IKEA kitchen!" How on earth did they even know that? But it is apparently so! And rather than ripping this out and putting in a whole new one (believe me - this idea was at the top of my list!) it turns out that it might be cheaper to get the upgrades from IKEA. Go figure! In any event, I will keep this review short for now, and will update it as things pan out. I'll keep you posted. So once upon a time, I totally disliked Ikea, BUT, my whole perspective has changed and I can now say I am an Ikea fan! (I know right? Next thing you know I will be raving about Costco!*gasp*) My love for Ikea started because of Pinterest!! Yes, that is right, Pinterest! I have been getting a lot of decorating inspiration from Pinterest, and decided to browse the Ikea website one day and I was really impressed. I found a lot of neat items and inexpensive items for the home that resembled my wish list off of Pinterest. I really like how you can check if your item is in stock online before heading to the store. I find that very helpful. I usually tend to skip the show room now, that is where all the slow walkers are, and people on first dates. Lord, I can count on my hands and toes how many times I have caught couples making out in the "pretend living rooms and bedrooms." I have not shopped here for furniture since everything comes in pieces and you have to put it together, but I really like their home accessories. I picked up a couple of rugs, some wicker place mats, and a table runner for 30 bucks and I can't wait to go back to get more stuff! Of course, if you dislike crowds, avoid this place on the weekend and holidays, as it is crowded and family central! My coworkers and I were able to catch the Smörgåsbord hosted in celebration of the Swedish midsummer festival. Tickets were ~$15 and with that, we got to try cured salmon, potatoes with dill, deviled eggs, elderflower juice, and meatballs with lingonberry jam. For dessert, there was an array of beautifully presented sweets including Daim cake, chocolate balls, and strawberry shortcake. Further to my post from 2017, I found the Ikea response to the COVID-19 epidemic demonstrates how poorly organized they are in any way except shop-and carry. Their delivery has always been expensive and slow, reflecting what appears to be a desire to reduce pickup options to the carry out model. My latest order has not even been acted on. It was estimated to be here on May 22. Today is June 23. I want to cancel but their "chat" is always out of order and their phone is never answered. They have made themselves unreachable. Again, the products are great. The management seems to be ill-prepared to deliver products to people. People must pick up their own things, which is fine unless you have already paid, then you are cut off from communications and cannot even arrange to pick it up yourself. Click-and-Collect Service Completely Broken Don't bother with Ikea's Click-and-Collect service. It is completely broken, at least at the Ottawa store. The people who designed it should be sacked. From a customer perspective, this service is more trouble than it is worth and ruins Ikea's brand. Here are the issues: 1. The signage at the store is absent/unclear. When you drive into the parking area, you have no idea where to go. 2. If you actually go into the store and ask staff, they are not helpful. 3. When you finally find the area in the pickup location, the next steps are unclear. Other stores, such as RONA (rona.ca) have solved the workflow pick up problem. The solution is just not that hard: 1. When the items are available, send the customer a barcode in the confirmation email. If sending a text, send a unique link that opens up a page with the barcode. 2. Provide clear instructions in the email/text as to where to go in the parking lot. One example: paint a yellow line on the pavement that leads to the pick up location. 3. At the pick up location, have the customer check in with the barcode and use it to open up a locker to prompt the staff to deliver the item(s). After this experience, I get the sense that Ikea's new tagline should be: We're Ikea. We don't care because we don't have to. Note to management: customers go away if you don't make it easy. Today we went IKEA-ing. It's like visiting a toy store for adults and when you get home, you get to open all the boxes and "play" with the toys. Then, if set up is successful, feel really accomplished when the pieces are put together. I enjoy the IKEA experience: from the super-cheap but pretty decent food, to the inspiration and design floor - I really enjoy finding deals on things I didn't realize I needed until I saw them. I think it's the promise of organization that adds to the thrill - following through with that organization is another story. This IKEA location is like most other locations: Big. Most of the time the staff here are very friendly and willing to help (when you can find them) but unfortunately today I encountered two staff members who must have been having really bad days. Even so, they helped with my requests and I got all my shopping done. When shopping IKEA, be sure to sign up for the family card - it can offer special extra savings to members and it's free. Also, be sure to check out the upcoming sales (there is always something) including bathroom and kitchen "events" or "midnight madness" during which the deals are epic. It may not be the best quality furniture, but will last a long time if careful - and it's so fun! read more

It cost me $40, however because we drove past Milestone's and decided to each lunch at Ikea for $4.99 per person........i figure the ricer was free........cause Milestone's would have been a $60 bill. Not only is it fun to come and just browse their decorated rooms for décor inspiration, their food is also somewhat like comfort food to me. Their meatballs are always a yummy choice, with mashed potatoes (add extra gravy!) Sometimes I'll just get a plate of fries (surprisingly thick and fresh)! The vegetable medallions that come with the salmon are really addictive. Even the salad is good value and you can load yours up with tomatoes, onions, and carrots. Their soup is fresh as well, I wish they would make the mushroom one more often (there were multiple varieties of HUGE chunks of mushroom in it)! Perfect when you dip the garlic toast into it. For dessert, their almond cake is delicious, and even better washed down with tea (free refills)! They should have more outlets in the dining area though. At the new Ikea, the restaurant is quite easy to find, and next to the main entrance after you ascend up the escalator. The cafe/restaurant area is huge, decked out with Ikea furniture, lighting and tableware. For a buck, you receive eggs, fried home fries and 2 small but wide sausage links. And self serve, I added 3 strips of bacon for a buck, and 2 pieces of french toast for a buck. My rating is heavily influenced by the price. The food was very plain, but cmon now. It's a dollar. Sorry folks, I did not think to check in or whip out my iphone to take a photo. The buck deal pretty well matches the Ikea stock photo, minus the parsley. read more

We waited a week and finally my wife went into the store to ask about our situation because you can't reach them by phone or email. The clerk unapologetically informed my wife that the covers for the sofa were on back order and that they would be I touch without providing any timelines. It is now mid-July and we still haven't heard from them. Worst part is we threw out our old sofa and we have nothing to sit on! Let's just all agree that the Swedes (or Ikea) should be put in charge of every cafeteria in the world. (Perhaps they could do hospitals? Cruise ships?) Also the new Ottawa Ikea is huge. Every Swedish expat in Canada could be given a small apartment in that place and there'd still be room for the Billys. The Ikea Restaurant is not just a place for tasty, super-inexpensive food, it is downright fun! Staff are chatty and helpful, tables are plentiful, and lots of amusing little Ikean touches, like kid-sized shopping carts that are actually trolleys for moving multiple cafeteria trays from one place to another. Genius. Sunday brunch at Ikea was a generous plate of smoked salmon with crispy rye biscuits, baby greens, and hot/sweet/dilly mustard ($4.99) and a tasty cheese and mushroom crepe ($1.49), with a cup of Earl Grey Tea with milk ($1). Total with tax: $8.50. Ate it at a nice big table by the window with a view of the bright blue and frigid Ottawa sky (felt very nordic did I). My only regret is passing up the butterscotch cake. read more

I love Ikea! It's the perfect place to either find things you need or wander around in on a random afternoon. The Ikea in barrhaven had enough parking for everyone and is one of the biggest in the country. Other than admiring the showrooms and window-shopping, I also love eating their food (the cafeteria serves delicious meatballs and all the food is extremely reasonable in price) and getting ice cream at the end, even in the winter. It's the perfect date spot for a cheap meal / snack & entertainment (you might think I'm joking but I'm really not, Ikea dates are fun!) Lastly, I didn't realize this until the end of my last trip, but if you get a coffee at the entrance, keep your cup for free refills at the caf & more refills at the exit. Ah, IKEA. Going there is like travelling to Mordor, but much more scenic and less orc-y. IKEA goes on forever, with all their twists and turns, hidden short-cuts, and various temptations. However the end reward is potentially worth it - new items, and food. Now because this place is huge, there are two benefits. 1) The show floor can give you lots of great ideas for how to decorate your place. Not quite sure how you can use a giant heart pillow? Take a look around and you'll probably find a good suggestion. The show rooms have helped me out a few times. 2) The other benefit is stock. If this IKEA doesn't have what you are looking for it means that it is either super popular or you made it up in your own head and it does not exist. The downsides... If you don't like people, then you will not like IKEA. Every time I have gone, it has been busy with what I feel is a representative sample of people; some are great, others are rude, and the rest look like they have lost the plot. However, I generally come on the weekends. Another downside is the size of the place. It can take a looooong time to get through the damn place. I personally like IKEA because they generally have well-made items for good prices. Yes, I know, these items are not necessarily heirloom pieces, but so what? Overall there have only been a few items that I found to be so poorly constructed that I have considered using it as some wild animal trap. The other thing I like about IKEA is that they really have great options if you want to maximize the space in a small apartment. The good thing is that this IKEA is pretty much like other IKEAs. Overall it is a great experience, especially if you need inspiration. If you are going in for a specific item and you don't want to pack a picnic, look it up on the web, check availability, and wear blinders. What isn't to love about Ikea? It's a simple concept, convenient, relatively well priced, and always an adventure! There is no real hassle of carrying large boxes throughout the store as you shop, you just write the number of the item you want and pick it up in the self-serve warehouse right before you get to the cash! Find it tedious walking through the massive store? Try this next time you go: Every time you enter a new section, go through every 'room' and find your favourite! I most thoroughly enjoy finding my favourite kitchen and trying to plan how it would look in my future dream home! Ikea's got a little something for everyone. They have many different styles of every type of furniture, decorations, and even some weird Swedish food! Speaking of food, you can't go wrong with a $0.75 hotdog! (Although I am still appalled by the 50% increase from the previous $0.50 it cost.) Heck, they even have an alcohol license now, so once again - a little something for everyone ;) Now, some of you are probably thinking that it's such a hassle to put your purchases together because they come unassembled. All Ikeas are the same, but I had a hard time in self serve (furniture missing, not enough staff on hand). I also used the self checkout and not everything scanned well but there was plenty of assistance on this end. Only Ikea in the area so enjoy... but... I RECOMMEND: Checking stock availability online before going to location. If it's 2 or less they won't necessarily have your item on hand. read more

They're too cheap to pay someone $10.25 and hour to run the cash. The self-checkouts don't accept cash. I never buy anything there anymore, except for eating in their cafeteria. Stop being greedy and give more people jobs, because it's absolutely chaotic in there. read more

IKEA - Furniture Stores Near Me - Ottawa, Ontario

It's the biggest ikea store in Canada! It's a maze in there. You have to follow the tracks on the ground or you'll get lost. It has everything for your house. From beds to kitchen appliance to sofas to light fixtures and everything else you can thing of. The staff is extremely helpful. Especially if you get lost. They are pretty knowledgable on where everything is. They have a wicked play ground for kids. And the food is pretty cheap and decent tasting. read more

I'm torn in this one! Yes, it is the biggest Ikea in Canada, therefore it's obviously huge.
