Silly me: I thought in the era of covid, this IKEA would have staffed its Click & Collect service properly to be able to process orders correctly and in a timely manner. I was so, so wrong. I ordered 2 bookshelf systems on Saturday morning, figuring that IKEA would be like most stores, where your order is ready in a couple hours. Haha no. On Sunday morning, I got an email telling me that half my bookshelves had been canceled and would (someday) be refunded but the rest was ready for pick-up. I didn't think much of the email's claim that my order was canceled for 10 systems because they'd refunded roughly the correct amount for one. So off to IKEA I go to pick up the remaining half of my order which... is not ready. Is still in the "picking" stage. This is 24 hours after the initial order, which means IKEA's Click and Collect system is not about speed. When will I get my bookshelves? Who knows. So I figure I'll cancel this order and start over (possibly with Container Store, possibly by coming back in person). Except at the corporate level, there's no way to cancel an order. The order tracking page that is supposed to have a cancellation option doesn't. If I call, the voicemail system tells me the system is too busy and nobody can take my call. So, 24 hours after ordering, I don't have my shelves, I don't know when (if ever) I will get my shelves, and I can't cancel for a full refund. So much for a simple weekend home improvement project. [Edited: I finally sent them an email requesting cancellation, which they say takes 6-8 business days to process, and the order was cancelled instantly, so I'm not sure what happened but at least it's cancelled.] My assumption is that IKEA must be one of the companies doing so well out of covid-driven home improvement that they feel comfortable in abandoning customer service entirely. It's still possible I'll buy shelves there (there aren't a lot of options for affordable, deep, modular, flexible shelving) but if I ever so much as look at Click & Collect again, the entire internet should slap my hand away from the computer keyboard. read more

I feel like IKEA is pretty much the same no matter where you go. There's a one way path that brings you to every area. There are elevators that you can bring your cart into which is convenient. There's a food and drink area (meatballs are always my go-to with the pear water). The store is clean and there's always something to find. I especially love the candle and plant area, though the plant area gets a bit tight. I bought a lamp awhile ago but threw away the receipt. They accepted the lamp and gave me store credit which was used immediately on more plants ha! Overall, great store. Parking can be tricky during busy hours and with busy hours means long lines (reason for 4 stars). read more

One knows not to expect 5 star experience at IKEA especially during COVID. I arrived with hubby who hates shopping!!! Hates it!!!! But I needed man power. Line outside was already enough for him to say let's leave, but with some convincing I managed to get him in. I know the store well as I personally LOVE coming here. We managed to get Krystyna's attention and she designed our wardrobe just how I had imagined it looking in about 10 min. She is amazing! Got the item list, loaded up and then the register line.....oops forgot to tell my man about that. But I made him happy with a bottle of water and some candy. Some items were not available, but we got the big heavy things on this trip so I am happy. The grumpy man recovered quick when we returned home. In the two homes I have owned (a condo and currently a house) - I have used Ikea products to decorate my home. Although I don't love putting the pieces together I do love their products and am currently in the process of using them to create a new walk in closet. Everytime I head down to Ikea is an experience - I know it is never going to be a quick trip (I mean the store has a map for people to use) and you have to go in there caffeinated and ready to go. Their website is great for ideas but what I love about going down there is that their have design stations available. This past weekend Mark C and I headed down with measurements in hand and spent several hours designing the layout of our closet. Adding not only the main pieces but the shelves and drawers was great because at the end - we were given a full color printout of not only the space but where to get all the "parts". I know that saved us time when we got to the warehouse. It always amazes me how they can put so much into a flat box (I just wish it came with someone to put everything together. My one main grip - the shopping carts - I can never get them to go straight - please fix this! It's always busy so just be prepared for a lot of people, especially on the weekend. read more

Superlative in every way. Amazing selection -housewares, furniture, decorations, kitchen stuff, sinks, faucets, lights, linens and towels, stuff you never knew you needed, let alone you even knew existed. Plus a dirt cheap cafeteria, plus an incredible food section. We came here specifically to look for a three drawer locking metal file cabinet and found a very nice one for $99. Not cheap thin metal but pretty heavy stuff, we could barely lift the box into the car. My son's pretty handy and he had the thing built in a half hour and it looks terrific. If you've never bought furniture at IKEA, it takes a bit getting used to. You have to write down an aisle and bin number for your product (see photo), then you go to the warehouse to find your stuff. We had an afternoon snack - a fish and chips for $2 and a side of 5 Swedish meatballs for a buck - that's quite a deal. We hadn't been to IKEA in ages, so I truly enjoyed my visit. Just walking around and soaking in all the amazing sights and atmosphere is a fun experience. Because we spent $100, we could get any of their food products for half price and we took full advantage of that. They have a market on the first floor with just about everything they sell in the cafeteria and a whole lot more. IKEA rocks !! read more

I LOVE going to Ikea! You can look around my house and see IKEA items, furniture and decor at every turn. The sales are great and the regular prices are super reasonable anyway. Today's trip was to help get some things for my daughters first apartment. We bought a dish drying rack, dish towels, twinkle lights, an assortment of candles (all sizes), succulents, a mini cactus, plant pots, batteries, pot holders, napkin holder and napkins, picture frames... you get the idea! How much did I spend?! Exactly what I budgeted for $100! Being an IKEA family member (free membership) gets you additional deals and discounts, too. The reason that prompted me to finally review it is because they UPDATED THE BATHROOMS!! That's a huge deal for me because when you spend at least an hour walking the 2 miles, I'm going to need to use the ladies room. So thank you for that! read more

To all of the negative reviewers of this magical place let me make something clear: this is IKEA. You come for the low prices, excellent variety and full knowledge that these are DIY pieces of furniture. To everyone complaining about "poor" customer service and the "confusing" maze set up, I say get over yourself. There are maps set up quite clearly all over the store, there are huge arrows showing exactly where to go, and plenty of employees always on the floor just waiting to help out. I have found IKEA to be a great place with more variety than any other furniture place around, great prices, and overall an awesome place to shop when you are willing to do the work of putting together furniture together at home. I thought for sure I would hate this place due to the lay out (basically forces you to walk through all their show rooms and get caught up in impulse buys or stuck behind slow walkers). However, the style and variety of the products they sell is unmatched. The furniture is decent to good quality, not great but consistent. You know what you're getting for the price. I like being able to pick from different styles and piece together my own looks. The children's section has everything you'll need from linens to toys and accessories for bedroom/playroom. We recently bought a tv stand to complete our breakfast bar. We love it and it was easy to put together. Although one of the drawers doesn't seem to match up completely, it looks great and really lends itself to the aesthetic of our kitchen. read more

I purchased this chaise from IKEA today. When I got home and began assembly I realized I didn't have the arms. When I called customer service I was told I had to purchase the arms separately, but while at the store I wasn't told that the item came with or without arms. And as you can see from the photo, it looks completely unfinished without the arms. I asked the customer service rep if I could pay for the arms, but have free shipping and was told no because it was a backorder. He told me that I would have to drive back to the store, which is a two hour round trip drive. So basically IKEA made a mistake, and they don't care, nor do they care about offering an acceptable solution for their mistake. just had a bad experience at New Haven IKEA. was to buy a pillow cover that was on sale along with other misc things that I picked up wandering through the maze like aisles only to finally get to the check out and find that the pillow case did not ring up correctly. I checked with the female staff member who asked me if I took a picture of the sign. I did not (who does that) and was told the only thing that I could do was to go back and take a picture of it. so I winded back through the rambling maze to take a picture of their sign and was so perturbed by the fact that I was asked to do this that by the time I got back to the register I showed her the picture of their sign and told her that I was not happy about having to walk all that distance and she replied "I hear you". I said to her "I hear you" and that i would not be buying the pillow cover or anything else there for that matter. it was my first and last time being in an IKEA. never again! stay away. very poor customer service. Customer service representative told me there is nothing they will do since I do not live in CT. if I have a problem call the main Ikea number and then hung up on me. I bought furniture from Ikea for a non-profit organization where I volunteer. The sales staff was 5-star and extremely helpful. Because there were several pieces of furniture, we decided to have it delivered and paid for it. That has been a nightmare. Their delivery people couldn't understand that this was a business, running 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on weekdays. They wanted to schedule a weekend delivery that would perhaps run to 9:00 p.m. It took a a few phones calls and quite a while on home to explain that this was a non-profit business organization. Our delivery was supposed to come on November 3, 2022, and after tracking it all day, our office manager got an e-mail saying the merchandise was not even on the truck. She was told that it would come on November 10, 2022. So far, we haven't had any word that it is actually coming. We have spent more time on this than is warranted, in terms of tracking the shipment for our items. Delivery service has been abysmal and is not worth the money!!! read more

Oh noooooooooo - lesson learned. Never opt for online order pickup here. I love me some IKEA and had an event in New Haven last night, so I ordered two pieces of furniture ahead of time (a dresser and a small storage unit with plastic bins) for a quick pickup on my way home before the store closed. Initially thinking this would be a seamless process, I came in with my husband at 8:30 and presented my order confirmation email, then the employee wheeled out our cart full of our purchased items. Amazing! Except, after loading the car, my husband realized there was a box missing, so we tracked down the employee who assured us he was sending someone in the back to retrieve it. We waited. For. An. HOUR. An entire hour. I get that they were short staffed at the end of the night and there were lots of people coming and going around the customer service area, but it was downright ridiculous. After going up a few times to remind them we existed (and being waved off and assured someone was looking for our item), we finally got it. We'd also offered to get it ourselves from the warehouse but since we'd already paid online, that couldn't happen. Turns out, obviously, nobody had lifted a finger for an hour and it took them 30 seconds to get the damn box. read more

You get one star from me just because I cannot give you less. In IKEA New Haven I received the most disrespectful and unprofessional attitude. I bought a sofa on a Saturday, the delivery was promised for the next day until 2pm. the next day (Sunday), at 3pm when delivery didn't arrive, I called IKEA customer service and was told it would probably only be the next day between 9-12 AM. The next day (Monday) we were called by the delivery company and said they would provide the sofa later, until 7 PM. around 4 PM they send a text that they will arrive within half an hour. I waited and no one showed up. I spent another day sitting at home waiting for them. At 6 PM, I called the delivery company to make sure they were still coming, but was told they were at the address, even called and no one answered. Of course it wasn't true. So I arrived with my husband to the IKEA New Haven store at 6:30 PM half an hour before closing, to check what was going on with the delivery but the services customers at the IKEA store gave no answers and said that until they checked with the delivery company where the sofa is, they can't help us. We asked for a refund. We were told that this would be only possible the next morning and that they would call us first thing in the morning (until 10 AM). On Tuesday morning, no one called us. So, we came again to the IKEA New Haven store, and after a long explanation of the whole situation to four different representatives agreed to give us a refund. But then it turned out they didn't know how to do a refund because half was paid in cash and half on credit. We spent a whole hour at the shop while four representatives tried to plan how they can give us our money back. In the end it happened and we got a refund. It was a shocking and unpleasant experience. The customer service in this store is very low level. I'm very disappointed, because I like IKEA's items, especially the furniture. I've done fairly well with IKEA over the years. I've bought bedside tables, coffee tables, really nice wood folding chairs, and a desk. I've also bought lights and small miscellaneous items like baking sheets and pans. In general quality has been good. Even the new furniture I bought has assembled pretty easily and gone together properly. I especially like my new Malm office desk and sofa side tables. They've used aircraft construction techniques to make the furniture strong and light. Quality has gone down on electrical items. The first lights I bought there a decade ago are still going strong, but one of the lights I bought recently had a switch jam and another shorted out after a year. Some of the other lights I looked at in the store, especially the low cost ones, were flimsy. Customer service is good when you can find them. My delivery to my car went fine and had only a short wait. In-store it can be hard to find someone to answer questions, especially during slow hours, and they need to man the grocery section more often. The cafeteria there is good and also cheap. Where else would you spend under $10 for a salmon dinner? Hours have been a little erratic at the cafeteria since COVID with some unexpected closures (like closing at 3 when they were supposed to close at 7). The overall store itself has always been open during scheduled hours. The store is fun to walk through. The displays in the store are really well done, especially the ones showing what can be done with a small square footage apartment. read more

Inefficiently run, worst customer service and wasted my time. They like to sell you stuff they don't have. Bought over $500 worth of furniture, was forced to use the pick up area instead of just claiming in the aisle as past practice was. The people in that area made me stand an hour to bring out 42% of what I bought and paid for. Since what they brought out was unusable, I had to return it. 3 separate transactions to return it- 1 for the stuff they had, 1 for the stuff they didn't have, and 1 for the 1 item I had to find on my own. If I was the only one this happened to I'd say isolated incident. Nope, same thing happened to a couple next to me. They too had to stand an hour to be told IKEA doesn't have the stuff they sold you. I went to Ikea in New Haven today to get a 3 draw dresser for my mother in law. 1st it took over 2 hours to find what we wanted. We had to go to the second floor of the building and search for the one we wanted. Not one person we passed that worked there offered their help. 2nd it was like 99 degrees in the building so by the time we found our way out which took at least 20min or more to get down stairs and to the self help area to get the item we wanted we were quite over heated. Then to check out there was only the self check out and one cash only cashier. There was a lady directing the next person in line to an open terminal and from there it all went down hill. I have been doing customer service for over 15 years and I have never been treated so badly by any one. Then I did by this person. She was very combative with our discomfort with the so called store policy of giving out personal information just to purchase a dresser. Iwe will never step foot in that store again. When it's been just too darn long since that last time you fought with your spouse/family member/roommate/self, IKEA is the place to go. Alternately, if you feel like you have a little bit too much faith in humanity and need to kick that down a few pegs, feel free to stop on by! There's a reason that carts aren't available upstairs. The aisles are too narrow and there is nothing upstairs that can't be found downstairs. There's a reason arrows are on the actual floors and there are maps every 10 steps -- so you go WITH the flow, not against it. If you can't follow those basic instructions, please find an exit and use it, because you will not be able to assemble even the simplest of items here. As an ex-IKEA employee, I still get tics and hints of PTSD even though it's been a decade since I last wore a yellow polo. Much of my household furniture is IKEA, because I know the difference between their bottom-priced chipboard furniture and the better stuff. It isn't the best and it won't last for your kids or grandkids, but it won't disintegrate on the ride home. Their kitchens are pretty darn close to 100% custom-made and have an unbelievably long warranty that holds up. Much of the better furniture has a long warranty period as well - just make sure you photocopy your receipt since the paper is biodegradable. We drove from Queens NY to this IKEA in Connecticut for a children's work desk and I wasn't the only one. The desk we saw online was the MICKE with the top shelf. We checked on a Friday and it was practically sold out throughout the United States. Only 2 or 3 locations in Texas had them and they appeared available in Connecticut late Saturday night. There were only 22 in stock. I took the drive Sunday morning and arrived roughly an hour after they've opened. When I arrived at the self furniture area, the bin for the MICKE desk was completely empty. I almost lost my mind for driving all the way here for nothing. I double checked with a inventory rep and he was shocked because he said he just brought out a pallet of it not long ago. He checked the system and saw a few more left and brought out another pallet. As we were waiting for the MICKE, at least 4-5 other families were looking for the exact desk and by the time it was restocked, people swarmed over it. By the time we got home and finish building the desk, I checked the online inventory at IKEA Connecticut and it was sold out! Only 2 locations in Texas had them. My overall impressions of this desk... awesome desk but pain in the ass assembly. Not difficult to assemble, just tedious. We also picked up a children's desk chair with a foot rest. Excellent and comfortable chair. Highly recommend this child's desk for remote learning at home. The shelves, storage, and drawers are great! read more

The perfect place to take my old roommate who needed inexpensive furniture for her new place. End tables for $7.99, bookcases $19.99, laptop desks $21.99. I enjoy looking through the Market Place where I bought 2 surge protectors that I didn't need for $3.99 (2 pack) and some spice canisters that I absolutely did not need. It's a busy place so you have to overlook the crowd walking up behind you following the arrows. However, it's a fun environment. We forfeited the Sweedish Meatballs and visited the Food Trucks at the Wharf. IKEA is always a fun place to walk through. read more

Have been to several IKEAs between Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Connecticut is considerably smaller than the others, but it's fun to walk and get ideas from the displays. Have purchased many furniture and furnishings from them over the years, even purchasing our daughter's first apartment furniture for her graduation gift. And there are times when the cafeteria is low on items and choices are spare, and there have been times when the food is lukewarm, but overall, it's an inexpensive meal in New Haven, and beats the Roach Coaches on Long Wharf. But I have found that the items hold up, even after a decade or more, and that there are things there that are difficult to find elsewhere at a reasonable price. read more

Ikea is exactly like every large box store. They mKe quality products you need to put together yourself. I find their items to be good and solid, the directions not too difficult, the food in the restaurant is reasonable. I love the meatballs, with Loganberry sauce! Bought a lamp Saturday. Got it home and fo7nd it was damaged. Went back to swap it out Sunday morning to be met with a more than 2 hour wait. Uad to leave. Went back Monday night to jo wait, however was told they could only refund me the lowest sale price. Problem is i wasnt returning it, i qas simply exchanging it for a non damaged one. Associated only credited $12 of the $17 dollars. Then I had to go get a new one, wait in line, and then pay an extra $5 becuase they wouldnt credit the full amount. This 2nd lamp was damaged also. I would normally give Ikea five stars. Because what's not to love?! Wander aimlessly, get ideas for home renovations, Swedish meatballs, I mean seriously! HOWEVER I just left and my cashier, Sean, was terrible. I had a cart with heavy items and glassware in boxes. I put all of y small things up on the belt and the rest were in my cart, with barcodes facing up for wast scanning. And there were a lot. He told he every single piece had to be put up on the belt. It took me more than ten minutes because every single piece was single glassware in a box. THEN he slid it all down the belt and JUST STOOD THERE WATCHING ME put it all back into my cart. The woman behind me started to help me- he still just watched. Seriously?! Even at Walmart they help you pack your cart! I didn't swipe my card until I was finished packing my cart simply because I was so upset. This IKEA seems pretty standard. I came in August, I suppose right before college kids were coming back to school, and some of the items we wanted were not available. Layout is relatively logical - though we got caught between the exit and the children's area once. They were nice enough to let us through a back-door exit. Cafeteria area has lots of seating. Gotta love the Swedish meatballs and princess cake. Their pantry/food item shopping area is very well stocked. Pick up some elderflower syrup (tell us how to use ours, please!), some frozen salmon (great value!), and some frozen meatballs (value pack!). Don't forget the lingonberries berries! I will say, though, the people checking us out were some of the most sad, unhappy people I've met in a retail experience. The days I went this past summer were not even particularly busy, but their sadness and lack of enthusiasm stick out in my mind. I guess I would expect that given how positive of an experience it is for consumers - simplicity, good prices, etc. - this part of their culture would be different.
