The store was bright and clean, with nicely staged products, but the store layout can be rather problematic if you are only looking for one item, since it is necessary to walk through at least one level unless you see the shortcuts (see the store directory I posted). This is not a quick in and out store. Plan on spending 30 minutes just waking around. They do have a huge selection of furniture and house hold goods. They also have a helpful staff that will guide you through the shopping process. With most pieces you have to go to the self serve section to get your furniture. Be sure to pick up the cinnamon rolls at the restaurant. For $4 they are delicious. I was happy with the chair I purchased, it did take awhile to put it together though. read more

I've known IKEA for awhile as cheap items that don't always look cheap. This was a trip I came specifically to order chair legs since hubby bought the chair back but legs were out the day he came in. I went straight to returns/ exchanges & lucky I saw the number puller because they go by numbers and there was a lot of people waiting on a Saturday holiday weekend. In that area there was Home pick up, and a tv screen which shows the order number then a column for processing and last column to show which orders were ready for pick up. For another visit I wasted some time because after getting a number for customer service I was told to go to home pick up to resolve my shipment issues of the chair legs. Upon waiting at home pick up who was also busy with a line the gentleman told me customer service had to help me that he couldn't because it was a shipment issue. Basically if you order anything or have issues make sure the representative can and will help you, it seemed I couldn't get much help until the manager took care of the transaction and the manager of the 4 times I went there went above and beyond and was great. Example Situation since I can't recall the exact quantities: ordered say 20 chair legs which were not in stock. Upon shipment receipt I only received about 6 but the delivery slip didn't notate the shortage. I got a manager help me find some in another location and order them for me to replace my missing pieces. read more

I hate to rank a store based on their clientele but... I'm going to do it anyway. The motto of this store is: Walk in the middle of the aisle like nobody's behind you. And why does EVERYONE have to get their SLOW MO going on here? I swear the only people who shop here must have no life. And no other errands to run. Ever. IKEA, I love your stuff. But damn, your store is unnerving to shop in. I even know the short cuts to get to the middle floor without meandering aimlessly through the top floor and how to get to the back half of the middle floor without going through the front half. Sensory OVERLOAD. IKEA is huge and while I did see things I needed not sure I wanted to commit to a long a line. Last few times I only went in for their kitchen supplies however its still a trek to check out. Their smoked salmon is pretty good for being a cafeteria dish. The desserts served are way too sweet and a one note in flavor. At check out they do have a little supermarket area, had a gluten free blueberry tart for 6.99 that was killer. Lot's of options if your playing host to a party and need quality but not bankrupt. Not a fan of the one direction through the store. It's not like no one is there to tell you your going the wrong way but I did get the irritation vibes. What is up with their carts it's like they had one too many shots and can't be steered in a straight line? Good thing I like walking and you should too if your planning a visit, from your car, to get lunch and than to check out it's a trek. I definitely couldn't handle their holiday shopping, some weekends aren't bad and I might like a nice walk maybe in January when it's too cold outside and I've got cabin fever. read more

I love love shopping at IKEA. I love finding a new way to use an old item. I like to walk around inside and get my exercise in a temperature controlled building. I also love finding a new accessory to add to my living room. Yesterday I was shopping and I noticed so many empty spaces I asked a worker named Jill. She said they are selling at 130% everyday. On the app you can check to be notified when an item is back in stock too. Also do curb side pick up thru the app called Click and Collect. My favorite stop is in the As Is Room near the registers. I try to avoid going to IKEA on the weekends since it's a tourist destination. Some days I skip the showroom and go in the doors under the escalator. Going to Ikea is a special event for me- this is the closest one to me and it's a three hour drive! I planned my weekend around this trip. It was super busy but not crowded. They're limiting the amount of people that can go in at a time, and Ikea already railroads you through the store in one direction so it's not a mass of potentially infected weird strangers getting in your personal space. They had a line outside to get in but it moved quickly, it was probably ten minutes all total. They have a lot of hand sanitizer stations set up throughout the store, and the kids play area as well as the restaurant are closed. They enforce distance pretty well at the checkouts, too. The food counter up front is still running, though, thankfully, so you can get your meatball fix. I had a great time, I love Ikea, I'm so happy with my visit today. read more

I'm sure it's all been said before, but if you want inexpensive, put-it-together yourself furniture that is nowhere near top of the line but definitely not super flimsy either, IKEA is your place! I mostly enjoy it for all the fun little knickknacks and unique & different art pieces & lighting fixtures. It's an absolutely massive store, so I can't feel toooo guilty about mindlessly shopping here for hours on end because at least I'm getting a lot of steps in haha! Make sure you get some chocolate bars at the checkout (thereby negating all the good you did by walking around the store!) and if you're hungry for more, there's authentic-ish Scandinavian food in the restaurant and snacks in the bistro. I can't believe I've never reviewed Ikea! Its been a year since I've been here, but have been here multiple times. My last trip started out with lunch in the dining area. My friend insisted I HAD to try Ikea's coffee; which was amazing btw! I also got a soda because their drink prices were so cheap. My meal consisted of Swedish meat balls, macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes. Then to end it all, a marzipan! Marzipan is kind of a weird desert to me. Its a biscuit topped with jelly, marshmallow fluff then fondant. And its served cold... But it was good! Then we looked around at all the furniture and home decor. They have everything you need for a home from screws and whatnot to an entire kitchen. (How do I get out? How can I skip this area? CAN I skip this area? Where is the exit? Where are the arrows? I'm hungry. How big is this place? How many more things can they possibly have? Oh, but that's a cool thing. What was I buying again? Take pictures of that, too!) Seriously. It's a maze designed to take you through the entire store before you can buy anything. Word is, there are shortcuts and ways to dodge the full Monty. Send a PSA if you figure it out. At the end, you hope you took pictures to find the item in the SELF-SERVE (i.e., get a flatbed cart and deliver it to your car yourself) warehouse. But if you can read numbers, you'll navigate just fine. Really though - I've gotten some cool things here (think simple, modern, clean decor) and I'm happy with the quality and price. Some things at the store are loosey goosey and cheap/rikety. However many things are good quality, sturdy, and I often exclaim, "Whoa, that price!" in a good way. If you need anything for the home - functional or decorational home items alike - you should definitely go here FIRST, then go to your brand name store to pay more if you don't see what you need. Just take snacks or be prepared to eat meatballs and lingonberry sauce when you finally hit the restaurant. They do strategically place this restaurant in between the maze and the time to make purchases. These kinds of strategies make me giggle @ Sweden. read more

I always enjoy visiting IKEA and feel like I end up getting some items I want or need when I visit. They actually had the cheapest indoor chair cushions compared to the likes of Walmart and Amazon. I also was able to get a super cheap stool from the clearance section as well - which is great they offer this spot even if most of the time I do not find anything I want. The cafeteria is such a bonus as well and we have always enjoyed the food here when we do decide to eat. The grocery section is fun to walk through as well, even though I wish it wasn't after the registers. I highly recommend their cinnamon rolls too! I usually never need assistance from employees so that never has been an issue for me, but the last two times I was there an employee was super helpful both times. One helped direct me to the correct department to find my item, and another was very friendly near the registers. Also, getting 5% off my purchase every time I shop in store via their friends and family program is such a nice bonus! Overall, I really enjoy IKEA and love having one in our area! read more

As many times as I've been to the IKEA café, I never get tired of the reasonably priced but quality food items. Mostly, I love coming for fika - the Swedish tradition of mid-day coffee, dessert, and good conversation. The dessert selections are few, but they're indulgent! Today, we could be found enjoying a chocolate layer cake, berry streusel cheesecake, and sustainably sourced coffee. I recently drove 6 hours round trip with my family to pick up and new dining room table. As you can see, the box was in perfect condition so we didn't think to open the box until we got home. When we did open it, we found the table top split and both support beams damaged. I have spent 3 hours on the phone and I was promised two different times that a manager would call me within 24 hours and its almost been a week. The most they've done so far is told me I could drive the table back to the store to get a new one. It has been extremely frustrating to get absolutely no where with customer service. IKEA is my happy place. I don't think I could ever live in a city that didn't have an IKEA! Even when I lived in China, there was a location only 15 minutes away!! IKEA is great because: 1. Affordable and unique furniture 2. Amazing affordable restaurant. I love getting the traditional Swedish meatball plate and trying different Swedish desserts. 3. Colorful and affordable textiles, rugs, artwork 4. Varying quality of products depending on price point. If you want something cheap for your dorm room, you can find it. If you want something more durable and aesthetically pleasing, you can pay a little more and find it! 5. Amazing and unique light fixtures 6. Smart closet and kitchen designs- you can create exactly what you want and need for reasonable prices 7. You can get a decent amount of steps in! 8. They have childcare if you want to let the little ones play while you shop 9. They have plants!! 10. Their boxes are all flat so they easily stack 11. Putting together ikea furniture is a right of passage these days!! 12. They're an international company. I've lived in a few different countries and it's comforting to be able to buy my favorite chair and plates in all the different cities! Pro tip: if you want a wonderful first experience, go when you're not in a rush. My favorite time to go is at 7:30 pm on a weeknight. I can eat my Swedish dinner plate and then enjoy the store in the absence of the typical weekend rush. It's also really busy right before the school year starts, so just plan accordingly! read more

Hmm if you've been to one.. you know you should wear your walking shoes. Grab a cart because some items are the cheapest priced you can find anywhere. You have to do a lot of walking - not a grab and go place. I stocked my kitchen: lights, utensils, hooks, etc. If you are needing a rug, welcome mat, light fixture, or table centerpiece- this place is a must visit. This location seems the same as I visited in Centennial/Denver, CO. Cashiers were friendly. Cafeteria was clean and offered vegetarian options. IKEA is pretty great. It has pretty much everything you could need for your house or office. That being said there is one thing they don't have enough of: short window curtains. I went there tonight looking for one and the only ones I had to choose from were plain gray, red, or white. Everything else, all the fun patterns, were for floor length curtains. If you are buying a bed, make sure you check that you need the midbeam as well. For whatever reason they sell that separately... silliest thing I've ever come across. I got the bed made and realized I have no way to hold up my slats unless I have that piece. There's no signs about this separate purchase or anything and obviously the worker didn't remember. You know when people ask a couple how they knew they were ready to get married? It likely wasn't a special moment, it was if they survived a trip to IKEA from start to finish. This really is the relationship tester obstacle course. First off, if you're coming on a weekend you both need to be prepared to navigate some pretty legit crowds. The whole place feels like a Swedish airport minus the vacation like sense of adventure. That's pretty easy though, right? I mean navigating a well laid out design center shouldn't cause any issues. Now agreeing on what you want to furnish an apartment or a house? Now we're getting into real territory. If you make it to that point you're likely feeling pretty good. You're smelling cinnamon rolls wafting from the check out lanes, and you've agreed on some love seats or cabinets. They look great in the display area and everything's pretty peachy. Cross through the children's section at the end with tots running around, crying and breaking stuff. That might be a sign of things to come on a future IKEA trip. Then you get to the final warehouse part and there might be a little turbulence. You have to locate all the pieces to what you've bought, and depending on what it is, there can be some heavy stuff, some awkwardly sized pieces and some tough sledding to find it. Then you get to test your patience by waiting in line. You haul it into your car and are on your way. So by now you've come through IKEA and worked together to come up with some pretty key relationship testers: Navigating a potentially stressful area, financial management, agreeing on decor and design, and working together to get every piece together... or so you think. You still get to haul these bad boys home and assemble them! That's effin' teamwork. Depending on what you just bought, prepare to block off some hours to put some of these things together. The instructions at IKEA kinda suck but they get the job done, but prepare for the figurative wheels to come off here and there. You'll learn new, innovative curse words that you didn't know you could come up with. Breathe deep. Enjoy the process and bumps here and there. Try to limit the little stress outbursts when you realize you put the brackets on backwards. If all goes well you not only get a bed frame put together with your partner successfully, but you both end up in it and you pass the IKEA relationship test. read more

First, a little background. I manage inventory for a living, and have done so for the last decade. If anyone is familiar with what you should have on the shelf --- and the feeling of being chastised because you don't --- it's me. You can't have everything and please everyone all the time; I get that. But IKEA must have the worst inventory management system in existence. Case in point: I just want to buy the GUNNERN lockable cabinet in Red. Seems simple enough. But I've been to the Merriam store on multiple occasions since they first opened in September and this cabinet is never, ever in stock. I go online and look at stock in other locations. There are 9 in Tempe, 11 in Schaumburg... Out of stock forever in Merriam. Why...?!? I can name plenty of stores that will let you order an item online and have it shipped to your local store for free when they don't have local stock. But not IKEA. Recently, the gf and I wanted to buy two sets of the EKBY BJARNUM 7.5" brackets and the accompanying EKBY MOSSBY shelves. We picked what we thought was an off night during the week (it was still checkout chaos) and drove over there. After snaking our way through the place to get to the shelf section, we found the shelves but no brackets. Sorry, but what good is one without the other? Next to the shelves? A stack of about 50 cheap drills and screwdrivers. Now, I don't know about you, but I happen to own a drill. And multiple screwdrivers. And if I was looking to replace one or the other, I'd go to Home Depot, not IKEA. Basically, they've got a plethora of items no one really needs and are missing key components of the products people drive there to buy. Shouldn't be hard to remedy, one would think. Stock more brackets. Too many, even. Or, come up with a better solution for getting the product to the customer. Making people go back again and again to check and see if it might happen to be there is not working. So we left empty-handed (again) and in full option overload mode; plus, we had wasted a good hour of our lives in the process. I've vowed not to step foot back in that store until I can go online in advance, check inventory and see that there is plenty of stock on everything I wish to buy before making the trip. Oh, and before I left there last time, I logged into one of their handy touch screen suggestion monitors and expressed my frustration. A few days later, I received an email response from their local Customer Relations Manager, assuring me that my comments would be forwarded to the appropriate department(s) for review. He began the email with, "Dear Carrie..." Who the H is Carrie? Do they even read this stuff? *sigh* IKEA has a lot of cool products. But the store layout, the lack of availability and the difficulty of the checkout process that others here have described make me less and less enthusiastic. Lots of room for improvement. read more

I really like Ikea! Matter if fact, I like ikea more than two stars. On this visit, my six month old and I flew solo. I was happy to be offered a shopping cart and was told that the cart would slide sideways into the escalator, giving us full reign of the store. Once we got to the front entrance we were stopped and told that our cart could not enter the showroom and that we could only ride the elevator. I explained what we were told and was "corrected" and asked again to change carts. Once inside I remembered why I enjoyed shipping ikea and started filling up my smallish bag that connects to the cart. Eventually I ran out of room but found a trolly to pull my larger purchase behind me. The store is HUGE and they maximize their space so I give myself five stars for traversing the opening week crowd with a full cart, trolly and a six month old. They had lots of checkouts open. Matter of fact I had no wait - except for the checker to get his check stand in order. After checking out I scrambled to pack my purchases up. Never mind that there was no one behind me - the checker DID NOT help. Also a woman came to claim my trolly. I asked if I could keep it. "Oh no! These HAVE to stay in the store!" Then she quickly walked away. I managed to cram my purchases back into a single bag on my little cart and schlepped my large purchase over my shoulder. The store was full of first time shoppers, suburban mons with the mega strollers and other patrons stopping mid isle to compare carts. If you are not a Black Friday veteran you may want to avoid this place for a few weeks. Why the two stars? Associates should know how to help patrons around the store with ease. Also, instead if telling me what I cannot do, how's about you provide me, THE CUSTOMER, with a solution. Another thing, it may not be your job to help bag purchases, but when you can see a customer struggling why not lend a hand? Overall we had a great visit, got some excellent purchases and we'll be back. Or at least I will - next time I'll leave my baby at home. read more

It's the final destination for home decor. If you have new place or you are thinking of getting new furniture to liven your old place then you must pay them a visit. You will get so many new ideas and options. From beds to cushions, from chandeliers to bulbs, from dining tables to decorative vases, from cook tops to kitchen knives. They have it all. There are 3 levels to shop from so you can be there all day. And of course, if you get hungry with all this walking around they got this big cafeteria which serves Swedish food. I didn't know that Swedish food is this good before I had it. They have this rich chocolate cake which is my favorite. There is also a Swedish market where you can buy frozen and packed Swedish food. It's Ikea! Honestly this is my first time in one but they have just about anything for your home that you could possibly want at a great price! Upon entering the store they give you a brochure and a pencil. The brochure has a store map and a bit of small info but the biggest help is the shopping list area to write down the items you want for pick up in the self service area. The store is huge but feels small due to the nice use of fully built sets, walls, and zig zagging lanes. IKEA really has almost anything you want for your home and more. They also have a great mobile app to download. This place is extremely affordable for good quality products! I'm an Ikea fan now for sure! :-D read more

I helped him with the furniture assembly and it all went together pretty easy. The TV stand came with a ton of hardware so I was a bit concerned something would be missing but it was all there and everything turned out just as expected. I like Ikea. I am already a Family member after visiting one on job travel in New Jersey. I have a list, that is their classic items, from 2 years ago, that they still sell. I am so glad we have one, or rather, Merriam Kansas has on e. If it were closer, my pay check would be in trouble. But to say the least, they put alot of thought into how they built this complex. First off, you see the children's area, then the escalators. Once you go up the escalators, to the very left is the eating area. You can get to it without taking the entire store route. That is also where the bathrooms are. If you begin to follow the route, it starts in children's, then goes on to the areas of the house. The living room area, I believe is in the same area. You write down what you want, don't forget aisle and number. You also need to grab a yellow bag, shopping cart or a yellow wheeler. You can get a pencil and one of those wonderful tape measures. Then start on the path. If there is anything int he store (this part is kind of the show room, but they sell pillows and things as well, you get it. You get it then, or you have to back track along the path. Then you go throughout the store, either using a short cut to the long huge walk to the marketplace. There is the elevator or escalator. Then you search for the item in the market place. Eventually, you go to the check outs. And pray there are more then 2-4 people working. All Ikea's seem to be built this way.
