I would've put 5 stars but today I went with my boyfriend to buy three furnitures... one had an aisle 0.. so there's no aisle 0 so my boyfriend asked one of the employee that stands by the aisles of bed and sofas " helping " customers my boyfriend showed the picture and asked for help and this rude employee said with a nasty attitude " What! is it?!" And another employee dark skin guy laughed because the way he talked to my boyfriend. This pisses me off because I work as a Pharmacy Technician I deal with customers... with patients that are not friendly most of the time and one thing I hate to do is treating bad my customers or the last thing I want to do is make my customers feel so stupid. I swear I wanted to say something so bad to those employees and complain to the manager. They should get another job if they don't like what they are doing! read more

I placed an order for pick up on MAY 23rd for a 6- drawer chest dresser. I received damaged drawer pieces and called for replacement for my parts. After 6 months and over 10+ calls, false delivery dates, no refund I am ABSOLUTELY EXHAUSTED of this company. They have ZERO VALUE for customer service. They have blatantly lied to me on the phone about my damaged parts being shipped and sent to me via priority shipment. I am so fed up of wasting my time constantly calling and following up for an issue that was not my fault. They are the worst and most unreliable company I have ever dealt with. It is disgusting to see SO MANY similar complaints on BBB, this is terrible representation of the organization. I am going to dispute my charge with my credit card and throw this entire 6-drawer chest out. Even when I asked for them to deliver a new one they said they would send a new one and a order shipment confirmation would be in my email very shortly. 6 months later, no email, no new 6-drawer chest, no justification for why my shipments are not here yet. This is poor quality control and needs to be resolved. I have already complained to the BBB as I am EXTREMELY unhappy and need to bring this issue to light. read more

good lights but the service is lacking on busy days.

Lines move very slowly, but ours especially. Took over an hour from paying to arranging delivery at Elizabeth store. Some folks complained, especially elderly women trying to catch bus back to NYC. I complained to an anonymous employee who physically intimidated me with his elbow and forearm in my face. My attempt to file a complaint has failed. I hated the cattle-car shopping experience and felt bullied by this employee. I was relieved to leave this awful store. read more

Worst experience ever. Looking for a newly released item. All the closest IKEAs in CA are out of this item. No one can tell me why. After about a month of continually driving down to the stores because NOONE ever answers the phone, I am finally told there is a "delivery problem" and none of the stores have it but they will "call me when it's in". Never got a call. I found what I was looking for in a NJ IKEA so I texted with IKEA on Facebook. They were supposed to help me in locating this item for me and sending it to me. They got back to me and said all my local IKEAs were out of the item. Yes, I knew that which is why I contacted them directly. I told them which IKEA had it and could they ship it to me. They said they had to contact the store to see what they had in stock. I didn't hear back from them so I contacted them again. They said they were waiting on a reply as the store never got back to them. So, I picked up the phone myself, called that East Coast store, found the item and had them put it on hold for me and then re-contacted IKEA on Facebook. Their response? We cannot help you. They didn't help me at all. It took me 5 minutes to find out the answer they couldn't get. I had a friend go pick up the item for me and they were made to wait for thirty minutes in this IKEA while they waiting for someone from that department to come help them. No one ever came to help him but many team members passed him but, ignoring him. He finally got someone to page the person from that department but when he finally hit 45 minutes waiting with no one helping him or responding to him, he finally looked behind the employee counter himself and found the item they were holding for me. Customer Service doesn't happen here, online or at the store. No one will do their job to help you, much less, god forbid, go out of their way. The only helpful person was Tricia, who was kind enough to hold the item for me. read more

It used to be better. But the furniture seems to be turning into over priced junk. I still go because my son loves the meatballs.

I wish I could give IKEA 0 stars. They are the WORST. They don't care about their customers or about anything else for that matter. I went into the store 4 weeks before I moved into my new apartment to pick out furniture. They day that the delivery was suppose to come (Monday), they called and said their truck broke down and they could not get mine, or my roommates', furniture here until Wednesday. We called to ask if it was possible to get our stuff delivered the next day. After several hours on the phone, they told us that they would be able to deliver and assemble the furniture the next day. That next morning, they delivered and assembled my roommates furniture but mine never came. I spent that entire day on the phone with them arguing until they agreed to bring my furniture that next day (Wednesday). However, when my stuff came on Wednesday, they never sent someone to assemble my furniture. So I waited for them ALL DAY (literally 12 full hours) to never show up. Thursday, I hired a task rabbit who came and assembled everything..until he realized that they sent me parts to 2 different beds. So that night I took the trip all the way back to Elizabeth, NJ (without a car) to pick up the parts of my bed that were missing because they told me that they would not be able to deliver anything to me until AT LEAST Monday. After 3 hours of being at the store, I finally got my stuff, however they told me I will not see my money back until they pick up the parts of the bed that do not belong to me. And they don't give refunds, just store credit. AND they have not compensated me in ANY way at all. Anyway, They have yet to come pick up this extra furniture and I have not gotten through to them without spending at least 2 hours on the phone on hold. DO NOT USE IKEA. They literally took 30 years off my life. read more

I love Ikea and you will too as long as you follow my Ikea guide. 1. Do not go on a weekend. Ever. The only time it might be okay to go on a Sat and Sun is late in the evening after the shuttles from Manhattan have stopped. 2. Ikea is like Ellis Island. One of the things I love about living in the NYC area is the diversity. But when you have a big store with 50 different languages being spoken and 50 different cultures it can make navigation hard (but if you don't go on the weekend like I advised this too shall not be a problem). 3. If you're planning on buying more than just a few small things you must bring someone with you. There are no shopping bags or carts you can take out of the store/loading zone. If you have something big you can only bring your car up to the loading zone; You can't wheel it out to the parking lot. Therefore one person stays with the stuff on the trolley while the other gets the car. Now they do have cages in the loading zone where single shoppers can lock up their stuff so you can go get your car and come back to all your crap. But it will just make you rethink your life decisions as to why you aren't married yet. That and, if you're a female shopper, the people next to you will feel bad for the poor single girl and all offer to help you load your furniture purchases. Which you will hate bc since you are the strong, single, independent type you feel a lil insulted. Whoa. I'm sorry. Got a little too real right there. So back to Ikea... There are soooo many great deals in this place. I love their products and prices and they are my first stop for any home needs. read more

This Ikea is totally a joke. I placed two orders and they said both will be delivered on Saturday. At 8pm Friday a guy called and said there's sth wrong with their driver and cannot deliver my second order until next Tues. I said no because I'm flying away on a business trip on Sun and I live alone. They agreed to reschedule my second delivery to Sunday. I agreed to that and also confirmed my first order is not influenced and will still be delivered on Saturday morning. No one shows up on Saturday. I called and they tell me they are not able to deliver on Saturday but will deliver both on Sun. I was so pissed off as I've been waiting at home for whole day. To save some arguing energy, I accepted the change. 12:00pm Sunday, they called saying not be able to deliver again... I'm speechless. What the hell IKEA is doing???!!! With all happened, the person called me also stated she cannot give me any compensation plan but a customer service number... which is also a big joke as no one answering the phone... read more

Our Malm furniture was recalled and we were offered to receive a wall mount kit or to return the furniture for full value price. We decided not to use the wall mounts and make large holes in our new home. A lone IKEA driver came to our home to pick up the furniture. Since we was alone and my husband had to talk a half day off from work he had to help the driver load the furniture, this took place on 9/22. The driver gave us a receipt and said we would receive a full refund including the glass specifically made to fit the Malm furniture. On 9/25 I called IKEA to follow up. They could not locate my furniture and said they would follow up. That evening they called to inform me that my furniture recall had been processed and I would receive a check for everything returned within a week. No check that following week. Called ikea again, was told the refund needed to be signed off by "LP" and would be sent immediately. No refund check that week. Called IKEA a THIRD time and was told I would receive my check this week. Today 10/12 we receive an IKEA gift card for $96! (We went back to IKEA 2 days after our pickup and spent more than $700 on new furniture.) I called IKEA again today and the $96 refund is for the glass that only fits the Malm furniture. I have all the emails stating we would receive a check (not a gift card!) for the furniture AND the glass tops. Absolutely no one we spoke to was able to assist. They informed us that we now have to drive back to the original store to speak to a manager. 60 miles, an hour drive and tolls to attempts to resolve this matter. As far as I'm concerned they can stick that gift card where the sun doesn't shine and I will NOT be shopping at their stores again. Ever! read more

When I moved into my new house in New Jersey, I spent nearly 4,000 dollars at IKEA during the summer. Included in this was the purchase of the TJUSIG shoe rack, a simply small purchase that has taken 4 hours of my life and at least 20 dollars in gas because it was sold to me with 3 right legs instead of 2 right legs and 2 lefts. So of course as life would have it took me to till February to settle in and put this item together. So when I opened it and tried to put it together I realized that it didn't have the right parts. It had an additional right leg and missing a left leg. So of course I instantly thought it was no big deal, I would just bring it back to the store and they would get me the right part. Big mistake, it would have been easier and less time consuming to have just order it new online and paid for it. So I drove thirty minutes to the Elizabeth store in New Jersey. I took a ticket and waiting very patiently for close to an hour. So far I have wasted 30 minutes unboxing and putting back together, 30 minutes driving back and an hour in line waiting to be seen by customer services for a 20 dollar product. The guy who called my number was a very well-mannered customer service agent who actually tried to help me but was limited in powers. Once he looked in the back for the part and couldn't locate the part, he began to explain that there was nothing he could do without the receipt and I could call and fill out a form to retrieve the receipt. I politely explained that makes no sense, and that I really didn't want to waste any more time on a 20 dollar product that was defective from the start. So he said well you can wait for a manager, which I said no problem. After waiting 20 minutes for the manager finally showed up and she was just very unpleasant for no reason. First off, she implied that the product was either I bought used from someone else or stolen since I didn't have the receipt and I wasn't willing to spend 30 minutes calling to retrieve it. I politely explained that it was a 20 dollar product and I would not be wasting my time trying to scam IKEA over a leg for a 20 dollar product. Once she realized that no one would waste so much time trying to scam ikea over a 2 dollar part. She looked in the back for the product, and after another 20 minutes of looking she came back and explained she couldn't find the part and there was nothing she could do for me. I then proceeded to explain to her how ridiculously this situation was. I explained how much time I already wasted and I wanted was all the parts for the items I purchased. As she was looking up the item, we were then interrupted by a customer who was returning a lost credit card. She asked me to give her five minutes, so she can bring to the credit card to security which I agreed. After about another 20 minutes the manager is by the door taking her time to put carts in their place. Finally the guys who first helped me came to me and said the manager said to give you 13 dollar credit and I can go buy the item again. I expressed my frustration with this solution as I would have to go get the item and wait in the purchase line all over again. I explained this was unacceptable and this isn't helping and is just causing me to waste more time. He asked if I would like to talk to the manager again, and I said first off she should have finished this transaction herself but yes I would like to talk to her again. So I waited another 10 minutes. Finally she comes to me and doesn't say a thing and stares at me with the what do you want face. After 2 minutes of her not saying anything, I say HI. She says Hi back. That was it, I began getting upset. I expressed to her how poorly I was being treated and in all of my 6 years working in retail I would never treat a customer in which the retail company messed up in the way she was treating me. The only thing she could say is well I am trying to help you. I had to explain to her no she wasn't helping me. Helping would have been getting the part or the new product I need without delay and without making me wait and without telling me to go wait in another line and pay another 6 dollars plus taxes. She clearly didn't understand what I was saying and I got so frustrated that I left without taking my defective product just to prove that she was not indeed helping me. The worst part of this experience was not the fact they didn't fix my issue but that the manager wasn't not empathic nor was she apologetic. Not once in this whole experience did I hear we are sorry for your inconvenience and not once was there consideration to the time and money I wasted for IKEA's mistake. Just as IKEA charges to take anything off the shelves and put in a truck and deliver it, I would expect IKEA to value my time the same and at least give me a working product at customer service instead of telling me to go get it off the shelves and wait in another 40 minutes line. AVOID THE ELIZABETH STORE AT ALL COSTS!!! I don't know where to begin. This has got to be the least customer oriented store I have ever had the misfortune of patronizing. It started when we went to the counter to request the service where they pick up all of the items and arrange delivery. Rather than combine our orders, they sent us back through the store that was bad enough, but the real fun started when the installers came. First they screwed through the headboard on a bed. Then they were to install closet systems in 3 closets and didn't bring screws...any. I will be reviewing XPO Logisitics separately, but why IKEA uses them when they have terrible reviews I do not understand. At any rate we call IKEA to find out when someone will be coming back to finish the job and they said two weeks! Oh and did I mention there were pieces missing. If I ever shop at another IKEA, and that is a big if, it will not be the Elizabeth Store. read more

Horrible experience. I went here to shop and also tried to talk to the manager as I had to wait on the Phone for hours to actually talk to someone, but the manager was so rude she just told me to call a number, which was the main line that I had to wait for hours and never had anyone pick up... Also the couch I bought at this branch was supposed to be delivered but they sent me the wrong legs for it. O don't have time to physically go to the store so of course I had to call and I waited for hours again to talk to someone so that I can have what I purchased and was told they will call again for a confirmation within 48hs. I finally got the call after 3days and was told I had to pick it up. I told them I paid for delivery then they told me to wait another 48hs... It's a JOKE. And I've purchased something else last month and had never got it product. I decided to get it somewhere else and asked for a refund but they told me they had already shipped another but I haven't even received that one yet!! The phone representatives are not helpful and the manager at this branch is RUDE!! I will never buy from IKEA although I still like their product. I just don't want to deal with the people here anymore. read more

My wife visited this store on January 8, 2013 and bought a table we were very excited to add to our kitchen. Upon opening all the boxes (3) we discovered that there was no assembly hardware. I called the store right away and they very nicely offered to ship us the parts we needed. I was told on the phone the parts would ship from the Elizabeth store and should arrive in 7 days business day. Even though I pressed the buttons to speak to the store I was transferred to a call center somewhere else. A week later I called to find out the status and was told they shipped the day before and should arrive in 3 to 5 days. 6 days later I called again and was told once again it shipped yesterday and we should have them soon. I waited the remainder of the week and called once again on the following Monday. Same run around, we see they shipped on the 21st. Was told it takes 3 to 5 business day for UPS and/or FedEx to deliver. Of course they have no tracking number or proof of shipment except that someone said they shipped it in their system. Anyone who has any working experience with these carriers know it does not take 3 to 5 business days to ship something to a neighboring county in the same state. Pure bunk! Upon brining this up the rep said "sir you are not privy to our contracts with the carriers so how would you know!" I was done and transfered to a supervisor. Same crap but offered to open a new ticket and start the process all over again. I have spent thousands of dollars at this company and they can't even overnight me parts after they clearly messed up? Who treats their customers like this? Is this IKEA, the Elizabeth store I don't know. But what I do know is that if you purchase anything from this place that requires assembly, and it seems most of their stuff does. Make sure you have all the parts or be prepared for a LONG wait or a return to the store. We are now faced with more waiting or returning to this store which is a complete nuisance to travel to! Buyer be ware, they do not seem to care one iota after they have your money! read more

I don't know what is happening with the Akea Brooklyn location but that's like saying I don't understand the reason for lack of customer service or concern. I won't even comment on deliveries not showing up for several days, as promised, because that's minor compared to the debacle we have experienced. Suffice to say that after ordering several thousand dollars of furniture and contracting with a independent service organization that AKEA uses: Urban American, our experience has been pretty horrific. Three different contractors via AKEA that were sent to assemble the furniture did such a terrible job that we finally needed to send everything back. Parts were left off, doors did not close properly, the wardrobe was not leveled, the back panel was cracked and covered up, the rails fell down because they were not secured properly, the shelves were uneven etc. Also, we were subsequently informed by customer service that the reason some bookshelves were not secured was because the installer had reported that we had "mesh in the walls." Not even sure what that means but I checked with the building management office and they just laughed, wondering if perhaps we also bought swamp land in the Everglades. Perhaps another AKEA location will bring better results but I am not hopeful. read more

This is my third morning waiting for XP, the company with which Ikea Elizabeth has a relationship for delivery and assembly, to come to assemble a sectional sofa I bought on Tuesday. At the time of purchase, late Tuesday afternoon, I paid for delivery and assembly and was told both services would happen the next day. And, on Wednesday morning, the boxes purportedly containing the sofa were delivered. The guys who made the delivery said another team would come to assemble; all of this to occur between 9-1. At 12:18, I called Ikea to inquire about the assembly team. It was 22 minutes on hold before I could speak to a person. I was ultimately transferred to the "resolution section" where I spoke to someone who explained that XP can do next day delivery but not next day assembly and I should never have been told assembly would happen on Wednesday (this, despite a receipt in writing saying deliver and assembly on Wednesday between 9-1). This individual apologized and said my assembly charge would be refunded, either by crediting my credit card or in the form of a gift card in the sum of $117, the cost of the assembly service. Total time spent on phone with Ikea on Wednesday was 38 minutes. On Thursday, when no assembly team had arrived, I called at 12:41 and waited on hold for 30 minutes before talking to someone. After looking up my order and case reference number, he told me he had bad news: XP had no record of an order to assemble for me. I was passed to the "resolution section" again and just as the woman there was about to tell me what they could offer to resolve the issue, the line dropped. Total time for that call: 48 minutes. Fortunately, she called back to confirm there would be no assembly on Thursday. I said I needed to make a formal complaint and she transferred me to a supervisor. The supervisor told me that I could not have an assembly team come on Thursday and the employee who had told me the assembly charge would be refunded was wrong. She offered me a $30 Ikea gift card in which I had no interest, as I had developed a strong aversion to Ikea by that point. She promised to look into both the incorrect promise of next day assembly and the undertaking to refund my assembly charge. She said XP would come to assemble the sofa on Friday morning between 9-1. I asked if I could be put first on the list for Friday as I have been waiting at home for two mornings already and I have some things I need to get done outside the home. She said she'd ask but could not promise. That call took 20 minutes, for a total of 68 minutes for Thursday. It is now Friday morning at 9:37 and I have not yet heard from an assembly team. My first major purchase from Ikea is almost certainly going to be my last. read more

customer service is horrible!!!! nobody answers the phones or they make you wait!!!! 4 huge boxes of wrong item delivered have been sitting in my living room for 2 weeks now. i have to constantly call to follow-up. why can't they just deliver the missing items and pick-up the wrong delivery to satisfy the customer and they can do their research later? it seems that there is only one manager who can make that decision and this manager is very difficult to find. don't they know they are losing money since the price of the wrong item delivered is twice the items i was missing? this kind of customer service is unacceptable!!!!! read more

I bought two sofas, dining table and 6 chairs and paid for home delivery (order number 233715854). They scheduled delivery a week later, Monday between 5-9PM. Nobody showed up. Called the customer service and was told that delivery company was not able to contact me. BTW, I gave them two phone numbers and there was no missed calls. They rescheduled for upcoming Wednesday same time. Again nobody shows up until 7.30PM. I call the customer service to check the status and after holding half an hour they told me that it is in IKEA's systems but not in delivery company's. So the earliest they can deliver is Friday. I ask for the next day. She forwards me to her supervisor to see if he can help. The manager puts me on hold to speak to delivery company. After 20 minutes he tells me he can not make it faster. On the contrary, the Friday spot is also gone in the meantime and they cannot even deliver on Friday. You escalate a problem and it gets even worse. Never had such a bad customer service experience. I cancelled the whole order hoping they can do the refund right. I doubt it though. read more
