Absolute worst customer service throughout the entire process. I LOVE Ikea, but this location will never receive my business again. First, we were given the run around in store with changing an order. . .we were sent to three different departments and no one was very helpful. An associate ultimately said to us at one point, "yeah, they all could've helped you but the manager on right now doesn't want us doing that. . ." OK. Then, we waited for 2 weeks for delivery of our products. We bought a couch during their gift card back promotion, so I can understand some back up, however when it came to our delivery day, 48 hours prior to our set schedule they tried to say they no longer had our time slot available. This lead to several phone calls back and forth between the store and delivery company, I finally was able to get a straight answer. Now, my product has arrived and not all pieces are here. I have spent 30 minutes on hold trying to get in touch with someone on the phone at the store to no avail. I'm completely frustrated and appalled at their lack of consistency as I have never experienced this before with IKEA, and I am surely never going to this store again. read more

My ikea experience has never been as bad as this. We ordered several items online and the Hemnes desk came to us with defective paint. We tried to get this desk replaced with an online ticket, and after waiting more than a week for a response, we were told to pay $99 for a shipping fee to get the desk replaced. I'm dumbfounded at the level of carelessness of ikea customer service. I called the customer service line more than 20 times, each time going through the phone tree for defective online product order, and getting hung up on by the system citing a busier than normal phone line. This is crap, because i got this response on both weekdays and weekends that i was trying to reach the company. I finally decided to press any number to get a hold of any customer service department i could get a hold of. They would re-route me to the afterservice department, which would inevitably hang up on me again. I finally got a hold of a very nice lady named Victoria (which was an exception and not the norm), who belonged to a shipping department, but after hearing me plead to talk to a customer service manager, told me that she is capable of handling aftercare services and took care of my issue. I had no idea how terrible your customer service is, and am sad to say that i probably wasted time worth more than the value of the actual desk. I hope more people will think of your customer service issue before choosing to put an online order through this company. read more

Love this place. You pay for what you get. They save you money but making it self serve and produce it in mass quantities. The food there is also reasonably priced and pretty good. Would I decorate my entire home in IKEA gear?? No way! But a group of cheap shelves for the garage, a couple cheap desks for the kids rooms, no brainer! I even enjoyed the feeling of accomplishment after constructing them. Took a while but what do you expect when everything is packed flat!!! Regardless of the furniture. Walking through the place is like Disney, they force u through the the park/store and make you re think on why you are truly there. To buy everything!!!! They pump in smells that make you think....ooooh I really need that $2 breakfast in bed tray, then you get home with 4!?!? I mean, what the heck! I placed an order at the beginning of December. The order was scheduled to be delivered the next week. I get a phone call the day of the delivery saying that the warehouse had not fulfilled my order and they would not be able to deliver it that day. When I talk to the resolution team they offered to reschedule reschedule and that was it. I rescheduled the delivery and when that date came I got another phone call saying the warehouse again had not fulfilled my order. Again customer service only offered a redelivery date, barely apologized claiming that they're just really busy right now. They were unable to give me a reason for the delays and acted like I was the one with a problem. I canceled my order and I asked how they were going to keep me as a customer and they offered me a $30 gift card when I had spent hundreds of dollars and been hugely inconvenienced. They wouldn't have offered me anything if I hadn't have demanded something. I am disgusted and infuriated. read more

If I could give them negative stars, I would. Bought an item here and paid the $100 delivery fee. Was told the delivery would be between 6-10 at night. I live in a military base so I would have to go meet the silvery truck at the gate, I contacted the delivery company and asked that they come before 8 because I have a small child that is in bed after that and my husband is out of town so I can't live the house. They told me the delivery person would be at the gate at 8. At 8:30 pm, the delivery person called and said he was 20-30 minutes away. I informed him I could not leave because my child was asleep and I didn't have anyone to stay with him and that I had requested for him to come at an earlier time during the window. He told me I would need to call IKEA to reschedule the delivery. I called IKEA to reschedule the following day to reschedule and they told me someone would contact me within 24-48 to schedule the delivery. Received an email the next day stating that we would be charged an ADDITIONAL $100 because delivery was "attempted". I have now spent 1 hour and 40 minutes on the phone with the worst customer service personnel I have ever encountered and I'm still on hold. I've been transferred four different times. I have been a frequent shopper at IKEA and I am an IKEA Family Member. I will be throwing those cards out and NEVER shopping at IKEA again. They want to charge me for a delivery that did NOT happen, PLUS charge me again to reschedule it and when I told them I just want a refund of the merchandise and forget the whole thing, they told me my delivery charge will not be refunded. I asked to transferred to a supervisor and I am STILL on hold. I'm sure they will keep me on hold until the store closes. LITERALLY the worst customer service EVER. Did an IKEA kitchen and a couple of parts that were delivered were damaged so I took them back to the returns area and dealt with a nice young lady named Adrienne who above and beyond my expectations. While waiting what seemed like forever she actually left her post 3x to check on what was taking so long and then went and actually pulled the parts herself. Unfortunately only one part was in stock even though it showed there was supposed to be 4 of the other part so she had to have it mailed to me. Then I had a question about my countertops and she went right into the computer and figured everything out for me. That's what I call an outstanding employee and customer service guru. If every place I had to deal with had an employee like Adrienne I would have the best shopping experience! This woman is management material. I always enjoy my visit here and everything I bring home. It's a really fun place to walk around and shop. I always get neat mirrors and frames here. They also have really cool bedding, duvet covers and sheets. I usually check out the "As Is" section too, my boyfriend found a really cool couch a couple years ago for a great bargain. if i could give zero stars, i would do so. i ordered over the phone a bunch of items to furnish a work apartment, and the rep gave me the false impression that despite the estimated delivery date, they could probably do it sooner. i was dependent on that earlier delivery date and when the time came, i called to nail down a specific date. of course, they told me they don't expedite deliveries and that they couldn't give me a specific date. so moral of the story is that unless you have ample time to wait around for your furniture and not under a deadline, ikea phone order is not the way to go. their customer service could be better - no apologies at all. they totally suck and can kiss my butt. not shopping at some cheap scandanavian place no more - you can keep your cheap ass furniture and suck it. My trip to IKEA yesterday has me still peeved. It was my first trip to IKEA, so I walked through the door and was immediately overwhelmed by the steel drum band and the fact there were a few different directions to choose from. Could they not spare one extra floor arrow from upstairs to give you a hint? Eventually got upstairs and found a TV with "how to shop IKEA" directions, found a chair, and headed off to get a desk. Or so I thought, as they were out of all the parts I wanted. Admittedly it had been a day or two since I checked availability online, so they get a pass on that, but once I eventually cornered one of the stealthy store employees they told me it would be maybe three weeks, and to just keep calling to find out when it's back. What the heck store can't call you when the thing you want comes in? (I want a glass top, so shipping isn't an option.) Did get a well priced shoe rack, although there were also mighty spendy ones. I love IKEA. I go to this one all the time. Sometimes just when I am bored and want to walk around. I always find something I need in the market area and then a quick trip to the dining area is always in order. The food is surprisingly so good! and so cheap. Ikea has cheap prices and for budget conscious consumers it is a great option. However, once you leave the store you truly get what you pay for. The items are aesthetically decent but do not last. In addition, the telephonic customer service is terrible. You can wait for up to 20 minutes with out ever talking to a human being and can be shuffled around from department to department. I have had a terrible experience with delivery. I placed a large order online for delivery and was never informed when my delivery would occur per their agreement that I would receive a call 24 hours before my delivery with a four hour window for delivery. The third party delivery service then randomly called one day and said they were thirty minutes away and asked about parking. We informed them that we live on a major street and rush hour traffic prohibits parking directly in front of our house. They refused to deliver. IKEA is the worst establishment to ever buy anything online from. You cannot return your items because they only answer the phones for new purchases. You cannot obtain a label to do a return without emailing them multiple times and no response whatsoever for days. They try to force you to drive hours to the store to do a return with hopes that you will purchase more merchandise. Don't do an ikea kitchen to save money, unless you are installing yourself. You will end up paying the same as getting solid wood cabinets elsewhere (as opposed to ikea poor quality particle board) and the process is insanely clumsy and frustrating. You will have to make many trips to ikea -- a nightmare in and of itself -- and be there for hours, regardless of how efficient you try to be. If you go with the ikea contractor to assemble cabinets, they will require that you have them also do the install. The sub contractor will charge a reasonable rate (in the DC are it's Carnegie kitchens) and are professional. But they are sub contracted by ikea's national build partner, which is Traemand. Traemand will charge a service fee of $1000-$2000 or more just to be the builder of record. There goes any savings over purchasing solid wood cabinets from Lowes or a wholesaler and dealing with one general contractor you hire to take care of the frustrations. You will still need to hire a general contractor after Traemand to do any plumbing, electrical, painting, and had hook ups after installation. Summary: - 5 frustrating trips to ikea (though staff is pleasant) - 3 contractors - cumbersome process - very slow turn around (many pieces out of stock will cause 1-2 month delays - low quality cabinets - buy appliances, lighting, hardware elsewhere In short, if you don't want this experience to save only a few hundred dollars, don't go to ikea. read more

Worst experience I had at an Ikea. I have been to Ikea at Tampa, Fl, Woodbridge, Va and now the one in College Park, Md. Normally my visits are great, which is why I look for an Ikea. Today my wife and I wanted to purchase cabinets to create a Butlers Pantry and went to the nearest Ikea. Our intent was to design and purchase the cabinets we would need for this project. We went to the Kitchen section to work with the design software and maybe get some expert advise. This was our first visit to this franchise. We found two open computers in the back of the design section, I sat down at one and started to work on my project. I no sooner started on my project when another customer came upto me and stated her phone was near this computer. I pointed to the one next to me and stated that computer was open. Then the floor person came up and asked me "Are you here to buy or are you just playing around?" ????? That is customer service, I explained I was there to purchase if I could get my cabinets. Then she said "These computers are only for purchasing. You have to leave." HUH? They are all marked for Planning, Not one was marked for purchasing. I asked to speak to the manager, after 15 minutes he sauntered over. I asked him if the computers in this section where for Planning, his answer was Planning (as the poles in front of the stations state). I explained to him that his employee stated they were for purchases, then he had to back track and lie to cover her. Really. Words printed in 3 inch block letters stating the intended use of these machines and you are going to stand in front of those signs an Lie. Store returns is a joke only 2 cashiers that take their time in between customers, sips water, takes gum out. Manager or sup bringing other customers to line to cut and instead of the manager dealing with it they make the associate do it. Even tho there is a line of 8-10 people at a given time. How are more people not cross trained? To be able to help, this is inefficiency when someone asked for help the manager said sorry i have no one, why couldn't he help? Another guy came as i was checking out and asked one of the cashiers do you guys need breaks? I can cover, looked like he was an order puller or a cart runner he had a yellow reflective vest on, the cashier said "ask farrah fawcett" walked away to tell another associate something in the middle of my transaction, poor customer service. If it were possible I would put zero stars I would. I have shopped at IKEA in at least 3 other countries. The furniture is not the best quality but it is affordable so I am not going to comment on that. You get what you pay for basically. The service at IKEA college Park is appalling however. The worst service in the US I have encountered so far. The staff is rude and extremely inefficient. We waited for almost an hour to have our items scheduled for home delivery. But despite having fully paid for the items they failed to deliver some of them. It is more than two months now (purchased items on the 8th of August) and we are still waiting to be reimbursed -- every day we send emails and waste hours on the phone -- always a different person answering who has no idea of what is going on...we cannot even receive our items if we wanted to because some are out of stock (the headboard of the brimnes bed, which appears available online) -- we have the bed, but will never have a matching headboard... what can I say? terrible terrible terrible. The representative told us the delivery guy will call us 30 minutes before arrival and I double checked with them twice to ensure it. But the delivery didn't call until they ARRIVED at 5:50pm! I had a TERRIBLE experience with the picking (they load items on a pallet) and delivery service. I do not have my furniture after 4 attempts. Attempt #1 Couldn't fit items on truck. Needed to be rescheduled later that day Attempt #2 Nobody actually rescheduled my delivery. NO SHOW with NO CALL to inform me. Attempt #3 ANOTHER NO SHOW with NO CALL to tell me they are not coming. The delivery company cannot find all of my items. I called a manager, and she ASSURED me that my items would arrive with the night delivery. Attempt #4 ANOTHER NO SHOW with NO CALL. Apparently, the delivery company can't find my items AGAIN. If you need to talk to a manager, call the local store at (301)446-6411 and press 0# and ask for a manager (not that it has helped me so far). STILL trying to get my furniture. I would give up and ask for a refund, but I have already bought some smaller pieces that we have already assembled. Calling the central Ikea number is a joke. Total waste of time. read more

When I was young and broke, Ikea was the mecca of home furnishings. Now older and with a career under my belt, I only come here if I absolutely have to. The crowds are ridiculous (don't even attempt to visit on a weekend), customer service is nil, and the hassle of having to put together your own furniture with directions that aren't even in English just seem insane. I can easily say, Ikea is like the Forever 21 of furniture...use it for a very small period of time and in the trash it goes. You're not going to find investment pieces here. I will say though- as a military spouse, Ikea is a great place to pick up a small computer desk or something similar. What is going on at IKEA?! I and my gen. contractor have been trying to reach IKEA through only phone # listed (888) for 3 days. They say they're too busy and then hang up. I've spent over $1000 and need to have one of the large orders returned. They delivered the replacement but didn't pick up the original which now sits in my living room and should be refunded. They have no chat platform on their website and email "form" doesn't conform to anything related to my issue. I'm furious and frustrated. Have you been to IKEA? Okay..You probably know what you're in for. If you haven't, prepare for... 1) Parking is a crap shoot. When people go to IKEA all rationality fades while looking for parking. This is a universal truth. You could be waiting patiently for a spot for two minutes with your signal on, and some minivan packing 10 people will somehow sneak in before the person you were waiting for has even left. Your best bet? Plan to make a quick round of close parking spots but don't get your heart set on it. You're gonna walk... When you enter the store you have 2 choices A) Go upstairs to the restaurant and showroom, or B) go straight to the marketplace and quick food bar. But everyone gets to the marketplace via the showroom, while stopping for some Swedish meatballs on the way. (You cannot shop at IKEA hungry. It is the worst thing in the world..trust me). So now you prepare for 2) Getting food. I've been to this IKEA a few times now and never have seen both sides of the food line open. Well, grab a tray and wait in line. Random kids will hang off from you, but it's part of the IKEA experience. I'd recommend getting a piece of chocolate cake, and skipping the coffee, but it's your choice. (By the by, don't google IKEA chocolate cake if you've got a piece sitting in front of you...) I'm knocking off a half star because both times I ate here, they messed up my order and charged me incorrectly. I paid in cash, so it was easy enough, but disappointing they did it twice. 3) Now with full tummies, you hit the show room. This experience is much like any other IKEA experience. But, I'm taking off another half star at this point because the one time I requested help the worker acted as if I was a terrible burden, and wasn't all that helpful in the end. Much like everything else at IKEA, you're better off going in with a DIY attitude. So you've got your furniture picked out, it's time to 4) go to the marketplace. I'm knocking off another half star here because unlike a few other IKEA stores that I've been to, this one is not kept at all. The carts are beyond crap, and you can barely navigate them. This place is packed a little tighter than other IKEAs and seems to have stuff knocked over on the floor a lot. Watch your step. Afterwards it's time to go get your self service boxes... And we knock off our final half star here. I had my heart set on a dining set, but despite assurances from the not-too-interested staff that they had it in stock, it turns out they only had 1 out of 2 boxes in stock. I was told "It happens" as a result. But they had plenty of the first box at least... If I can muster up the courage to drive back down to College Park, I'll hit them up just because the furniture is too good of a deal to pass up...But I'll be snacking before hand. read more

I give this ikea 3 stars because all too often it's either overcrowded with students, empty of 70% of their supposedly "in stock" items, or you can't find help. This place is quite literally, a rat maze. I've never been to another ikea, so I don't have any real alternate or positive experience to compare it to, but I do know that I've never been so frustrated by housewares shopping in my LIFE. I'm so torn about this one. I keep going back and forth with whether to review the store, or the products I've purchased. To be fair I always have a hard time giving negative reviews. It might be the social worker in me who doesn't want an IKEA fan to be heart broken and dismayed at the negative things I say. But.... It has to be said. Well, let's start with a positive. Visiting IKEA is a popular thing to do. This store location is spacious, laid out well and although always crowded, never so overwhelming that it makes me run away. But... I've never ever owned a piece of furniture from there that didn't fall apart on me 5 months later. Nope that's a lie, I do have a kick ass bookcase in the living room that's still holding strong. But the other two bookcases, chair and two dressers I've angrily dragged to the dumpster over the years makes me realize... I need to upgrade my furniture choices and stop shopping at IKEA for lifetime products. I realize now that IKEA furniture is made for those college/grad school years when you need quickly assembled, affordable stuff that you don't mind leaving behind a year later when you move out of your room/apartment. It's NOT meant for grown up long term living. At all. It generally starts with perhaps a drawer that falls off track. Here's the thing... It'll never ever go back on track. And once the other drawers hear of the first drawer's rebellion it's an all out war. Currently I'm stuck with a dresser where I can't open two drawers. One drawer collapsed on the other, and one has a face that's laying on my floor. Smh... Cheaply made stuff that dies before you need it too. I'll end on a positive. Anything you can carry out of there with bare hands that doesn't require folding down car seats to get it home is generally ok too. Absolute worst customer service ever! We spent a small fortune on their crappy furniture because it's all we can afford. We schlepped the boxes from self service. Got the boxes home only to realize that one of the 3 boxes in the kit had been in the wrong bin so we couldn't assemble it. We called to see if Ikea could deliver the correct box and swap it out with wrong box. The phone agent said someone would call us back in 2-3 business days with an answer but it was unlikely because it was our fault for getting the wrong box; they would only deliver if we had used their selection service. We couldn't wait 2-3 days for an answer due to guests coming so we schlepped back, waited in line and got told again that it was our fault for not checking the product numbers. Seriously? I asked why it wasn't the check out clerk's shared responsibility to check all the product numbers ( to which there was no response). She then informed me that I would have to wait while Ikea staff did an inventory count before we could get the box we needed BECAUSE if we just got the box we needed it would cause more paperwork on their end. Inefficient systems in place and a staff that acts like it's too much of a bother to work. This store knows people will $hop regardless so why bother investing in paying employees who care or are courteous. read more

We dropped the youngest explorer at the child center at the entrance and were assured that she would be well taken care of. After assuring the caretakers that we could be reached should our youngling begin a coup we started our journey. Facing unknown wonders and experiencing a slight feeling of apprehension I empathized with Bilbo Baggins as he travelled through the Mirkwood Forest. Though I knew we shouldn't stray from the established path, within no time we had made the mistake as we were tempted by shiny Scandinavian gadgets. It was a long time before we would see that clearly marked path for what seemed an enternity. Fortunately our party was able to stay together as wonder after wonder appeared before us. Affordable items and furniture that seemed to be well crafted yearned to us in an attempt to separate us from our gold coin. Knowing that we had a specific mission, limited resources, and a time constraint prodded us forward to find the bar stools that we had learned about back in the real world. After some time and many wonderful experiences, we found the stools that we had quested after. Still, as we pushed forward, more wonderful kitchen wares, lamps, bags, toys, beds, and many other wonders appeared ahead and we were mesmerized. Was the quality and affordability too good to be true? No. They were that good. As we made it to the check out line we realized that we had accumulated far more than just bar stools, but were happy in knowing that we had not exceeded our allotted budget. We gathered our youngling from the child area and decided to feast. Hot sausages on buns for only 2 bits! A bargain indeed! After filling our bellies we left and found that while we felt as though we had been on our quest for a fortnight, only two hours had passed. IKEA is truly a wonderful land! Their meatballs are crap. This IKEA has always been a store I frequent when I need household items and patio furniture. In the past I thought nothing special of it but a place I go once in a while. Not until last week I was very very impressed by the level of customer service some of their employees provided to me. I honestly felt I was treated like a guest at a 5-star hotel and I guess the company must have done something right for their employees to be able to take care of their customers this way. Basically I was looking for a small part for a TV media center I bought around three years ago. The floor staff pointed me to the discontinued section after I consulted them. Tracey from the discontinued section explained to me that they might not have the part any more since it's been a while. However, he still recommended me to check with Returns to see if they can see if there is any part available in their inventory system. I pretty much gave up hope at that point and just walked over to Returns in motion. Wendy at Returns confirmed the same info Tracey told me. I was about to leave at that point. Wendy nonetheless called their part expert Michael to see if he knew about the furniture piece just to double check. Then after talking to Michael, we realized that the model number we thought was the model was actually not the model I was supposed to look for. A different model number should be used. A search in the computer pulled up the right piece of furniture with the part I was looking for, however, with no availability info. At this point, I thanked Wendy and Michael and was about to walk out of the store, thinking I may just have to make do with something else instead of the original part. As I was walking into the parking area, Tracey from the Discontinued department ran after me and told me that they checked in the inventory again and found the part. I was really touched, surprised and happy! The development after surprised even myself. I opened the part and couldn't figure out where the third plastic ring was, which was the piece I was locating. Tracey explained to me that there should be only two rings used in the standard setup and how I could adjust the two rings I already have to get my TV hang up right. It just turned out that what I thought I needed was not essential and I could probably adjust things right with what I have. I did not buy the part in the end but ran out of words to thank the three who patiently helped me. It was at the end of the day, I was not even hopeful about finding the part but they persisted helping me solve my puzzle. It was a rare find to have people who care about your problem as much as you do these days, not mentioning they did even beyond... Because of these three lovely people, Tracey, Wendy, Michael, I have a complete different perspective about IKEA now and hope other big chain stores can train/empower their employees the same way, because customer care makes people's day -- I can attest to that first hand! read more

Worst costumer service ever! Not even worth buying their products just in case you would have an issue forget it!! I order a sleeper couch on line. It was delivered with 1 screw incorrect. We emailed them within the 3 days they ask you to let them know if you have had an issue. Its been a week. 10 attempts to contact them by phone!! And still haven't been able to contact any IKEA representative. So I have 2 huge boxes of sofa pieces just because of 1 screw and no support or solution! read more

Interesting mix on IKEA kitchen remodel.... cabinets are nice, installers are awesome - but there is only one company that they work with for countertops - Norwood stone - and they are just awful. Poor at communicating, terrible at scheduling. They came last week to measure, they've been paid, but still haven't been able to at least contact us to schedule installing forget about the installation itself. We have called and emailed ikea multiple times but the best we can get is "!we have asked Norwood to contact you". Bottom line cabinets are great but you can't use them without a countertop .... this would be the number one reason to avoid ikea kitchen read more
