Really, I promise.) 3. Park in the underground garage directly under the store. (Why would anyone park at the edge of an exposed lot when there is so much parking available away from the elements? Just please don't take my favorite spot. I'm the car in the center of row H. You can park next to me!) 4. Take the escalators to the top floor. Sign up for a family card if you don't already have one. (It's FREE!) 5. Don't turn right! Noooo! Turn left, and then left again, and go grab a coffee or tea from the cafe. It is free with the family card. (Those meat or veggie balls look tasty, don't they?) 6. Go downstairs, grabbing a yellow bag at the bottom. (Because you might need more than just that one thing.) 7. Go get your spatula. The kitchen goods are just beyond the dishes. (Try not to be tempted by everything else!) 8. Backtrack. The fastest shortcut is right across from the stairs. It will take you directly to lighting. (You needed some light bulbs anyway.) 9. Lighting is followed by frames and plants, and then the warehouse. As you leave the plants, make an immediate left. (Not into the carts! Just a few extra steps!) 10. Follow the empty, wide corridor all the way to the registers. (Turn right at the end of all of the shelves. They are just ahead.) 11. Check out. Done! Time for a victory dance! (Or a visit to the candy wall. Try the salmiakki- salted licorice- if you are feeling brave.) 12. Next week, realize that you actually did need the tongs. They have the worst customer service there. I've shopped there for years. I had my $10 off birthday coupon but couldn't make it out there till 2 days after my birthday ok 7/2. Coupon says birthday month, which is June, but I tried calling customer service and couldn't get anyone on the phone to ask before I made the trip. I spent an hour on hold between 2 calls to ask and couldn't get anyone on the phone to ask. Forget trying to get phone support for anything there, since they simply don't answer the phone there. So I went out, figuring 2 days after my birthday they would still accept it. At the self checkout the machine rejected it, so I asked the employee there, who claimed she was a manager, and she was really rude to me, refused to take it, and just walked away from me. Horrible customer service. And forget trying to find an actual employee in the store for help as you're shopping. They're almost impossible to find. read more

Walking through their massive warehouse is always detrimental to my poor little wallet, but I do it anyway. (There, there wallet. It'll be ok.) Cheap furniture, modern style, clean cut and they have everything! Sometimes I just love the plain white furniture instead of the old school wood furniture. I love that you can get a small nightstand for as much as a bowl of ramen. Cheap, nice modern style. Love that you can grab an ice cream cone for $1 flat, and don't have to worry about change. Love the yellow shirt salespeople that help you at every turn and turn and...turn. Love the showroom areas so that you can visualize how your potential crib can look like. Love the big parking lot and areas to load all the 1001 items you have accumulated. Love the fact that I can take my active 2 year old through the maze and tire him out so that he passes out in the car on the way home. Love the return service that allows you to take a ticket and wait for your number to be called in organized fashion. Now enough about the Love. Now the hate. Hate the fact that they throw you into a maze like one of the experimental lab mice. Hmmm where can I take these mice today...muhahaha. I swear they have some master maze designer that plays with us like Hunger Games or Maze Runner. But they got shortcuts! Woop dee do! Hate that they make it so kid friendly that you have to pry your kid away from play areas (guess this also could be a love to keep them occupied). Hate the crappy quality of their furniture. Hate that they try to tell you the furniture is good quality with demos on display. Hate that they use an Allen wrench to put together 99% of their stuff. I know people go to IKEA for cheap and slick furniture, and not for its customer service. But its poor maintenance and customer service means that you risk getting mispacked items. I bought a bed here, drove it all the way home just to find out that it was obviously a previously returned item which was missing pieces as well as the assembly instruction. I called to see if I can have it exchanged in a different branch that's closer to my house, but it was impossible to get out of their infinite loop of recorded messages. So I drove it all the way back to this store, explained what had happened and all I got was a refund and an obnoxious 'have a good day'. An apology would have made my experience bearable! Went to ikea for dinner and to pick up a dresser. The restaurant experience was good. Food was hot and fresh. Staff were helpful and friendly. After eating my family and I walked the sales floor. Staff were present but we were never greeted on acknowledged throughout the entire store. We had entered the kitchen and home design area and I guess my daughters were getting tired of walking because they all attempted to sit at all the computers. I fussed at them and instructed them all to get up . No sooner than I did a staff member comes over and says " yes these are not toys" in a very aggravated tone. Sad to be the only employee interaction in the whole store. The cashier was very friendly commented on us having only girls and sang along pleasantly to the Jackson 5 song playing throughout the store. She was nice. read more

I'm a bit biased because this was my first trip to an Ikea *pause for shocked gasps* But I completely enjoyed it! As most of you know, it's a big place. You need to set aside a little chunk of time if you know what you're looking for, and if you don't know what you're looking for just set aside a few hours (a noob like me took forever). As a "young" women moving out, the pricing is pretty great compared to "high end" retailers. Of course they do have pieces and items that would be considered pricey but for each item that one may not be able to purchase, there's one that will definitely be in your ballpark! And you have several several, several options for whatever you're looking for. The little showrooms help get your creative juices flowing for home decor and I loved that aspect as well. I wasn't too particular on the glass drinkware, but then again I'm kind of finicky and know exactly what I want for each aspect of my home. There's also a cafe here which I didn't stop at because I was exhausted but I hear it's quite good. There's something for everyone here honestly, no matter what your taste AND budget is :) read more

I knew IKEA was a budget-friendly option, but I did not anticipate this level of headache from such a widely known company. Never again. Anyways, onto my fun story... On the Friday before my classes begin in Baltimore, I chose to buy some furniture for my bedroom from IKEA. All seemed well. I scheduled for IKEA, who utilize XPO Logistics for deliveries, to deliver and assembly the furniture on Saturday. We scheduled for them to show up anytime between 2-6pm. I drove an hour from Silver Spring to my new home in Baltimore at 12:30pm. Fast forward to 8pm (yes, a full 2 hours after the scheduled window), IKEA sends only 2 delivery gentlemen (wonderful guys may I add!) for a relatively large order. At 11:30pm, we figure out IKEA sent a faulty screw for the bed, and we are unable to complete the assembly. I go home at 1am an unsatisfied, yet hopeful customer. Bad luck. It happens. (Although, I've never had this happen with any other company...). Fine. Fast forward to the next morning. I drive to the College Park IKEA (the one closest to me), who inform me they have ZERO ability to get in contact with the Baltimore IKEA, which in itself boggles my mind. How can a company with a national brand be unable to communicate internally?! Still, I am able to get the needed screw 1 hour later after complaining (as politely as possible) to the store manager. Also here, let me note that IKEA stores do not have any telephone number by which you can contact them. They have only have one national operating system that plays an automated message for TEN MINUTES that you cannot skip, and subsequently (and I kid you not...) hangs up on you. In my life, and I can say this without exaggeration, especially after many long, long holds on the phone, that the IKEA customer service via telephone (or lack thereof) is the worst I have ever experienced ever. Anyways, since their customer service phone line remains a sadistic joke, I had to drive to the Baltimore IKEA who rudely inform me that they cannot send anyone that day, despite all of the inconveniences and time lost. I finally persuade them to schedule a delivery for tomorrow morning (yes, I am still dealing with them in the present moment to my dismay). Since I enjoyed the company of the initial assembly men, I decided to call XPO Logistics and ask if they could send back the same technicians. However, I find out that either the IKEA rep at Baltimore either lied to me or failed to communicate my new order to complete the incomplete assembly. Aside from the lack of sincerity, compassion, and/or competence, If I had not randomly called, I would have been sitting on my tush, staring at a wall from 9am-1pm and perhaps even longer, none the wiser. As of now, I don't know how IKEA will handle this. I want to assume, they cannot make the situation even worse, but I am not hopeful of that any longer. I will most likely have to start school sleeping on the floor, which I actually wouldn't mind at all, if it were not a direct result of IKEA's ineptitude. I'd like to make the side note that in all honesty, I am grateful that this is my most alarming problem at the moment in life. None the less, I wanted to type this out so that my experience could be shared and available for other potential IKEA customers should they be interested. To anyone from IKEA, if they care to read this, I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau if this is not resolved to my satisfaction tomorrow. Ikea is like trying to go to more than one Disney Park in one day. First, you have to get into the mindset that you're going to walk for miles before getting back to the car. Then you have to be logistically ready for what you will buy, how it will be transported home and that you have another ?# of hours ahead of you putting together the pieces. Pros: 1. Low prices 2. Inoffensive and often genius design 3. Comprehensive catalog includes furniture, lighting, kitchen utensils and appliances, textiles, and shelving as well as tools, light bulbs, batteries, curtain hanging solutions, toys, extension cords, and Swedish food. 4. $1.99 breakfast, and 50 cent hot dogs Cons: 1. Coming here is a workout. Wear sneakers. 2. Unless you pay for someone else to do it, you have to carry and put together your own chest of drawers 3. Interior design snobs will turn their collective nose up at your Ektorp couch. 4. Lingonberry isn't that great. 5. College Park location has been under construction so some areas are out of sorts and some things aren't available. Call first. -------- My last visit ------------ Mom and I came to buy me a chest of drawers - a specific one that I had researched online. By the time we walked half way through the store to the cafeteria, we had earned a break, so we had lunch ($8 for the two of us), then we continued through the marketplace and got to the piece I had decided on. I pulled the immensely heavy thing onto the cart, then I had a moment of clarity... I REALLY don't want to move this into the car, then from the car to the house, and then have to build it... I'll just get rid of my clothes. That'll be easier. We put it back on the shelf. We still left with a great chandelier, a bath mat, a toilet paper dispenser, and some lightbulbs. DO NOT ORDER FROM IKEA! Learn from those of us who have been absolutely screwed over and stay away from this place. We ordered a bed from Ikea. Seemed like a simple purchase. We opted to have it delivered because it was big and bulky. Well, half the order arrived (3 weeks after placing the order) and the other half of the order was missing. When we look up our order online, it just says that the order is "completed." Ok, so I called customer service and that's when the real issue began. It is impossible, no matter how hard you try, to get any sort of assistance with an existing order. You can get someone in the sales department, but then they immediately transfer you to "logistics." NO ONE EVER PICKS UP THE PHONE. I've spent a total of about 8 hours on hold, just leaving my phone on speaker while I go about my business. With each call, at the 1 hr mark, the phone is automatically disconnected. I cannot believe this is happening. We're out $661 with no potential recourse. We've filed a dispute with our credit card and also a complaint with the BBB.I don't know what else to do at this point. Hopefully the credit card company will give us our money back, but if not, we're out $661. I suspect the company may be going out of business because that's the only reason why the phones aren't being answered. Other people online are complaining about the same thing. read more

I've been a huge fan of Ikea's mission statement and find that this location often has some of the things that tend to run out in the Woodbridge location. With that said, I could not give it the 4 for its products and products availability due to its lackluster customer service! Whether it is the hiring process, training, or both, the cashiers and greeters seem to know little about what their store's promotions are and service is at the bottom of their list. If you buy anything that is on sale / promotional deals, I'd suggest that you take photos or print outs with you to the cashier to avoid paying the wrong price and hassle of having to sort it out after paying. I was told by a cashier to return to the section that items were in to confirm the prices, mind you while I had an overflowing cart full of MDF furniture. #customerservicefail read more

Got home delivery service for the $1000 worth of furniture we purchased at this location. Very uninspiring delivery representative didn't get all the items on the cart with the scanner until the third try. The slated delivery window came and went--with nothing coming. I spend 40 minutes on hold with customer service to find out that they "lost" my order. "They will call you back to reschedule delivery..." yeah right. I love IKEA and I don't care who knows it!! 4.5 on my Richter scale.... It had been probably 4 years since the last time I went and man how things have changed! They are EXTREMELY family friendly; it is too obvious that they are catering to mini-van passengers and nursery dwellers, but that's okay, because I was thoroughly entertained by it. Parking spots for families, shopping carts for the kids, family restroom stalls and kid seats on the backs of bathroom doors. Have a baby and just want to go to the bathroom in peace? Hang your baby on the door! It's that easy. Wow! I want one now just so I can hang it on the door. I was also impressed by the kid entertainment stations. They will keep your kid from destroying the merchandise while you shop; what's good for IKEA is good for you too! I was laughing with (not at) Mary Kay's review, because the reason why I avoided coming back was because I felt so lost here before. I really had no idea what to do. There is so much going on at IKEA that if you are prone to seizures due to massive information overload, don't come here. I have to say, it has gotten a lot better. When you come in, they have a little stand with pencils and cards to write what you want on one side and a map on the other. They even have these handy IKEA measuring tapes you can use - great! Confused about what the heck to do? Find a TV and they loop instructions on how to shop at IKEA. I had to watch about 5 times; I guess the more times you have to watch it, the more special you are. How special are you? Probably not as special as me. Overall, I walked outta there making only 1 mistake. I grabbed an external door for my cabinet that I was putting together instead of an internal one. It helped for me to take my man back with me to clarify. I was also super excited by their food court. It's an all out cafeteria where you can get healthy stuff, like their yummy chilled Greek salad or some not as good for you, but also yummy Swedish meatballs with lingonberry jelly. They also sell Swedish food stuffs downstairs in this little grocery area. I really like their fizzy drinks: pomegranate, peach, pear and apple are crazy good. I'm going to be quiet now, but I'll leave you with this bit of advice. Plan to spend a lot of time there (2 hours+); 1) to watch the video loop and 2) to look at everything!! They have so many cute things! Also, it gets crazy on the weekends, so if you want to go and actually enjoy IKEA, I would go in the afternoon on a weekday or go early on the weekend. Yes, it's an IKEA - but it's one of my favorite IKEAs...and here's why: 1) It's well laid out. If you follow the path, you will get to see everything without having to double back on yourself. This is key, as I have the attention span of a FLEA - so by sticking to the path, it gets me in and out within 2 hours. 2) The food area is the first place you see, after you go up the escalators into the mainshow room! YAY! I heart me some swedish meatballs for $4.95 ($2.95 on Tuesdays!)! 3) I have NO decorating taste (my perfect house would have wall-to-wall books...and one perfectly comfy reading chair. That is all)...and they constantly change up their little displays on how one properly utilize curtains (like Scarlette O'Hara, I've been known to make outfits out of my curtains. Heh.). 4) Mostly clean. I'm not a germaphobe, but there have been a few IKEAs where I feel like gnawing off my hand, after touching a surface. This isn't one of them. 5) The parking lot is HUUUUUUUUUUUGE. AWESOME! Things that doesn't work for me (and why it lost that star): a) THERE IS A KIDS DAYCARE/PLAY AREA! It should be mandatory that parents use that if they plan on being at the IKEA for more then 30 minutes...otherwise, my contemplation over which armchair is most comfy is interrupted by the shrill shrieks of bored small-creatures. A little look into my "customer service" experience with IKEA. My apologies, because this is going to be lengthy: My husband and I ordered a fair amount (and spent a fair amount of money) of furniture from IKEA. All of this was to be delivered on September 9th. Things went wrong from the beginning. Called the delivery company the day before so I could get my delivery window. Was told "we don't have a time yet, call back at x time and we'll have it then." I called that delivery company 4 more times that day and each time was told a later time to call back before eventually it was 8:45pm and I was told "Sorry, everyone has left for the day, call back tomorrow." A little annoying, but okay, I'll call back tomorrow. Next day, delivery day, furniture finally arrives, but there's no table top even though we ordered and paid for one. Talk to the delivery dispatch "sorry, call IKEA". I call IKEA several times that day and each time I call I don't even get a person on the phone, I get a recording: "Sorry, we're expecting a high volume of calls and cannot take your call. Please call back later." I call IKEA the next business day, Monday, and still the same recording that they can't take my call. I call again on Tuesday and finally get through to someone. They were pleasant and so sorry I didn't get what I paid for. "Okay, we can have the table to you Monday the 17th." Wait... I have to wait another week to get what wasn't delivered to me? Can't you just overnight it? Can't you put it on the next truck out? "No, I'm so sorry, this is when the delivery company can get it to you." Okay... fine. I'll wait. Yesterday was Monday the 17th. No table top. No attempted delivery. No phone call from delivery company or IKEA. I pick up the phone and call IKEA... "Sorry, we're receiving a high volume of calls at this time and cannot take your call." I call the delivery company, they have no idea what I'm talking about and don't have my table. I call IKEA today, the day after I was supposed to receive my table for the 2nd time. I have to call them 20 times, T-W-E-N-T-Y times, today before I can get an IKEA customer service associate on the phone. "I'm so sorry you didn't get your table. Looks like it hasn't left the warehouse yet to get to the delivery company. We can get it to you on the 22nd..." Wait, that's two weeks after I was promised this table the first time. It was supposed to be here yesterday after they messed up the first time. Can I get this sooner? I haven't had a dining room table to eat meals at for over a week now and I have to wait yet another week? I paid for this table and the delivery and it wasn't delivered twice. Please just tell me what we can do to get me this table. "Sorry, you'll receive an email from us when your table to going to be delivered." At this point I offer to drive up the College Park IKEA (in rush hour traffic on the Beltway) to get this dang table. I'll pick it up myself! I just want a table top. "Okay, but you'll have to re-purchase it when you arrive to the local store. We can't cancel your order now because it's in transit." But it's not in transit. You just told me it hasn't left the warehouse and isn't even in the hands of the delivery company. It's sitting in an IKEA warehouse waiting. At this point I ask for a manager because I really just want my table and I'm at work, I'm already spending my whole lunch trying to get someone on the phone. This is where is gets frustrating. The manager has no interest in helping my issue. She tells me repeatedly "Your options are either to wait for the table to arrive on the 22nd or you can call us back when you receive an email that your table has shipped, and we'll cancel it and you can go in store to pick it up." Ma'am, I don' want that. I want the table I paid for over a month ago. I want the table that was promised to me twice over now. I will pick it up myself. I'll do whatever, I just want my table. When I say this manager told me repeatedly her same answer above, I mean she repeated her scripted non-resolution, deal with it attitude answer of "Your options are either to wait for the table to arrive on the 22nd or you can call us back when you receive an email that your table has shipped and we'll cancel it and you can go in store to pick it up." Verbatim. For nearly 20 minutes. Okay, well will I be reimbursed any way for this? This has been incredibly inconvenient and time consuming. "No...you'll have your table." IKEA, I can promise you that you will never have another order from myself or my husband. Had there been any "Let me solve this for you" or "we messed up, lets fix this," then we might be in a different boat. But if you read all of this and still want to deal with the headache and waste of time that IKEA will give you at the cost of your own time, money, and patience, then be my guest. Ikea is now on my shit list. You know, I appreciate that most of their stuff requires home assembly, but when Ikea doesn't give you all of the necessary hardware, what is one to do? You'd think there'd be a centralized phone number you could call to have them send you the missing pieces. They even show a picture in all of the assembly manuals of a cartoon person calling Ikea when he is having trouble. You'd be wrong. See, Ikea doesn't even have a readily available central phone number. It's not on the packaging, it's not on the instructions. Maybe there's one on the website, if so, it's buried pretty deeply. When you email or use their online help chat, they send a canned response to return the item to the store. Screw that (pardon my pun). When I can't assemble a piece of furniture because I'm missing 2 tiny but crucial screws, I'm not paying to rent a Zipcar and drive 30 miles roundtrip to exchange the item for another, which may or may not have all of their pieces. 1. Try, just try coming to this location once and not get accosted in the parking lot by some guy trying to sell something out of his trunk. I lived here in 2010, moved back in 2013, and have come to this location somewhere around 20 times. EVERY SINGLE TIME...GOING BACK TO 2010...SOMEONE HAS APPROACHED ME IN THE PARKING LOT TO SELL ME SOMETHING. The big thing seems to be "mobile body repair". And don't try to just ignore or walk away, these people follow and harass you if you don't let them do some sales pitch. I reported this to management. Their reply? "We only control what goes on in the store." Really? Because I'm pretty sure IKEA corporate would have some interesting thoughts on who is liable for what happens in your parking lot. 2. 90 minutes to return a box of 6 glasses. 90 minutes for $5. You need to have a full day reserved if you plan to shop at IKEA. Plus, you need a pair of really good sneakers. After you shop at IKEA, believe me, you'll be so tired that you'll need a nap. There are so many things to look at. The model rooms are interesting and fun to look and walk through. Prices are pretty good for these European stuff. IKEA thought about just everything. There's a daycare/playground center for kids. Plus, there a a couple of play spots for kids throughout the store. There's a cafeteria that you can go to eat lunch or dinner. Then, there's a mini cafe downstairs. You can grab up some drinks or food for home. Their sticky cinnamon buns are sooo good! You gotta take some home! It's a good thing that IKEA has cafes so you can get some energy back. Otherwise, your shopping time would have been drastically reduced. So, why not 5 stars? Furniture feels so small. It's like these stuff are designed for those who are petitely 5'5" and live in an apt that is no bigger than 500 square feet. Here's how: Go into IKEA with a friend, friends, or loved one. (I typically choose my girlfriend, as it makes the rest of the plan more believable. Plus, she lives with me... and it's usually her idea to go.) Walk into the bedroom section. (If you choose to stroll, meander, or gallivant, this is also acceptable.) Have a soft conversation about the layout of the bedroom. Turn said conversation into a disagreement. Turn disagreement into personal attacks. Turn personal attacks into comments about partner's mother. Smile. Laugh. Walk away. Repeat in the kitchen section. More about IKEA: First things first: it's balsa wood... everything in IKEA is balsa wood. The extending tables, the chairs that fold into other chairs, the bedframes, the mattresses, the dinner plates, the forks... all balsa wood. Sure, it's a great price, but it's not supposed to be a treasured heirloom, it's supposed to furnish your first 450 sq. ft. apartment. The service is always helpful, but no one comes to IKEA for the service, especially because you are going to spend 4 hours putting together your new BILLY bookcase. The food is little more than cafeteria food, but it's cheap and there's Swedish meatballs (disclaimer: not actually from Sweden). Hot dogs are $.50 and fro-yo is $1. YOU CAN'T EVEN BUY GUM FOR LESS THAN $1! Need furniture, but your girlfriend/wife won't let you buy from the thrift store anymore? IKEA is the place for you. Practical, affordable, and hey, some of the stuff looks pretty good! I recommend you go for the real wood instead of the composite pressboard type materials if you can, cause if that stuff gets wet you're kinda screwed. But here's the key to making any IKEA furniture not turn into junk after a few years: WOOD GLUE! When building your shelf or dresser, apply a thin layer to all the surfaces that touch each other and then wipe away the excess with a paper towel so you don't see anything unsightly afterwards. Decent cheap furniture, that's the American dream! I mean I wish we'd import Swedish parental leave policies, high union density, and low levels of government corruption instead of just their furniture. But I hear there's a candidate for that ;)... POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AT COLLEGE PARK IKEA I had a very unpleasant shopping experience at College Park IKEA on Monday June 6, 2016 when buying a palm plant displayed near the registers and clearly marked $11.99 but scanned $14.99. Cashier and store manager insisted customer had put plant in wrong place and refused to charge as marked. I voided my other purchases which exceeded $50 because of poor Customer Service over a measly $3 dispute. I have been to Sweden and all the other Scandinavian countries and I assure you that is not how customers are treated in those socially progressive countries...or U S retailers like Whole Foods,Trader Joe's, or Home Depot who truly care about their customers. WARNING: DO NOT CHOOSE IKEA HOME DELIVERY IN THE MARYLAND AREA. MAKE SURE THE DELIVERY COMPANY IS NOT URBANEXPRESS. As I predicted correctly yesterday, that "nice young lady" never called. And sure enough, like clock work, UrbanExpress called me today...only to cancel again. They statedf that they once again didn't have a truck big enough. And/or they would have less deliveries tomorrow so maybe they could do it then. The supervisor was hostile. I was expecting this considering the culture of this company is so poor. He tried to talk over me about how its going to be with regard to delivery. They could care less that you took days off from your work so that they could continue screwing up there work. I have no faith that they will deliver tomorrow, so I decided to file chargebacks to protect myself against Ikea and UrbanExpress in the meantime. Ikea of course has ridiculous wait times for customer support over the phone so I will begin the 1 hour long process again and update here on Yelp as I hear from them about how they're somehow not at fault here. Update: I was finally able to get Ikea on the phone, they called up UrbanExpress who then claimed that they had no notes on the account about requiring a larger truck for delivery. The Ikea agent then laughed and let them know that they clearly had it annotated on their yesterday after the first mess, and this is what is sent to UrbanExpress. The UrbanExpress agent then disappeared putting both myself and the Ikea agent on hold and told us that they would note the account and again it would be delivered tomorrow. read more

Having watched IKEA over the years, I've watched as the furniture has gone from the category of "cheap crap" to "decent product". I remember buying things years ago and watching them deteriorate, particularly at the joints, to furniture pieces that will last a few years. Or maybe I'm just getting better at putting them together. Who knows. The food is also not bad anymore - they've long graduated from the Swedish Meatballs platter to other dishes during the week. Grabbing lunch here following your mortal combat with the crowds of people won't break the bank. The furniture is especially great if you have young children as you can spend less than $1000 on solid pieces that will last until they're teenagers and able to figure out that Crayola is not a welcome additive to the decoration of the piece. The Click and Collect service they offer is unorganized and no one knows what they're doing. I showed up on the date and time the email told me to show up. Its amazing how cheap you can get from spending a day in Ikea. When you literally pick up an item and say "pshhhaa.. I'm not spending $4 on this", when you know damn well that the same item is $15 at Target. You scoff at anything over $150, and yet you cannot leave without dropping that coveted C note despite all your treasures being under $10 each. I like the picture frames here. I have this white cloud sanctuary thing going on in one part of my apartment, and I needed white picture frames. White picture frames I got. :) When I'm having a day where I'm going to cheat my diet, and ruin my gluten free lifestyle I go upstairs and get chicken fingers and garlic bread. Oh man.... I need to stop. Its like elementary cafeteria food. And thats good enough for me. Certain times of year they have elderflower juice boxes, and I buy CASES of it. Typical Socialist Swedes, making us all walk the same path, regardless of natural walking ability. No respect for the freedom to make your own decisions, like get out from behind the family that brought all 14 generations with them to shop for a desk. Just kidding, all I really know of Sweden is this: my hot 4th grade teacher was from there, that Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie was sweet, and IKEA furniture has made my apartment more than a white carpeted box. So while the one-lane browsing is annoying, I can forgive them, because you get good value, the stuff is aesthetically appealing (or neutral at worst, what kind of person wants to make a statement with a bookshelf, anyway?), and it's pretty easy to maneuver your way through the warehouse downstairs. Employees are helpful, too, like if you get distracted surfing on your push cart and lose track of which aisle where you're supposed to find what you need. Self checkout is always a plus, the last thing you want to do after meandering through a furniture store/meatball restaurant is watch some moron miss the barcode over and over again. Lastly, if you're in a bad mood, it's funny to stand at the loading dock and watch that 30 Rock episode where IKEA breaks up all couples who go inside come true. read more

I'll leave the short version.. We bought a couch for $700!! Got it delivered the next day (an additional $70 fee)...then spent 3 hours in the delivery line to top it all off. Got it delivered, at 11am next day Opened the box and found a few screws missing. Went back up there and it 2 hours for the customer service rep to give us a new bag of screws. Got home opened the bag and they were THE WRONG SCREWS!!! I spent about 45 minutes comparing the screw to see if there was an error, NO WRONG BAG, WRONG SCREWS. By now it's about 3:30 pm, our whole afternoon is almost over. Feeling very irritated we went back up there again!!! THIS IS WHERE THEY CROSSED THE LINE!! After a brief conversation the customer service rep brought out ADRIEN in Recovery Clearance. This guy was so rude to me, my mother and girlfriend, accusing us of not knowing what we were talking about and out right telling us we were lying. We told ADRIEN several time that the screws we were given the Second time at IKEA was the wrong size but ADRIEN refused to listen. He continued his aggressive rant leaning over, over-talking my mother and girlfriend and telling them they were all wrong!! Kind of upset I kept my composure to explain to ADRIEN that I personally spent 45 minutes assembling the furniture and he must have made a mistake. Even still his aggressive demeanor and assertive over-talking watered out my obvious complaint. Still we waited and after another 2 hours we finally got the 2 SCREWS we were waiting for. The customer service rep and ADRIEN grouped together to inspect the screws, with ADRIEN bellowing under his breath. ( there were 2 different sized screws by the way) Upon leaving I asked the customer service rep to speak to ADRIEN I felt my mother and girlfriend deserved an apology for how he talked to them. I wanted to see if he was a man of integrity, could admit his wrongs and forgive my family for the disrespect. He claimed he couldn't come out for whatever reason after spending the last 30 minutes arguing with us. If he would have came out and apologized I would not have left this review but... ADRIEN IN RECOVERY CLEARANCE IS A RUDE, INDECENT, UNPOLAGENTIC EMPLOYEE WITH NO CUSTOMER SERVICE CAPABILITY AND RUNIED OUR 8 HOUR LONG DAY AT IKEA!! Way to go ADRIEN!!! read more

Absolutely terrible experience buying an Ikea kitchen. The planner first didn't respond anymore after our virtual appointment (and never sent the plan we spent 2.5 hours on). Then half of the pieces were missing at delivery, making us to have to pay 2 times for extra delivery costs. Their Traemand kitchen installers are unreachable and left in the middle of the construction an unfinished kitchen. We ended up paying over $6500 for the kitchen and over $1500 for an installation that never was finished. This is the WORST customer service I have ever experienced read more

IKEA is Swedish for "Person on a budget shops Here". Just kidding, not really. IKEA is huge and provides a multitude of design options for your home or tiny hole in the wall condo. The materials are fairly cheap and will not last forever. However, the stuff you find here will get you through a couple years until you start to build a permanent collection of household items. IKEA is fun and you usually end up buying stuff you don't need. So check it out. I found myself in an empty house waiting for the walls to be painted and some floors to be replaced wondering where I'd get furniture for 2 bedrooms, living room, etc without taking out a second mortgage. My memories of IKEA were from 30 years ago when IKEA first opened in the Potomac Mills outlet center. Frankly I used to go there for free babysitting for 30 minutes. I'd pretend to actually be looking to shop, but I spent most of the time in an "alone at last" euphoria. During one of those visits, they offered a free small plate with the meatballs. I still use it. This time, I did most of the walking on the internet in between chatting with the various contractors. It took a lot of time, but I didn't have to visit the store until I had made all my decisions. Ultimately I had to go to the store and pay for it. Yes, it was a madhouse, but I have my strategies for patiently waiting my turn. And it helps that I no longer have to take toddlers along with me everywhere. I stood in one line to place the order; a second line to schedule delivery; and a third line pay for it. The cashier was extremely helpful and pointed out that immediately joining their friends and families would lower the price of several items. I know I saved at least $250. The delivery came on the early end of the promised time; the assembly took a couple of hours. It's now several months later and nothing seems off-kilter. The drawers move smoothly, the bookcase is level, the bed frames don't wobble. The delivery and assembly fee was expensive, but I had a kitchen table and chairs delivered from another store and that was pretty high priced as well; delivery just seems to be high priced these days. read more

I've been searching for an office desk for the past couple days. All in all I can't complain and parking was easy. They have a huge lot as well in addition to the parking garage. I ordered a dresser to be delivered and paid for it online early September. What I was sent was in complete. I have spent HOURS on the phone trying to get someone to help me. I have held for HOURS only to be hung up on or "disconnected" during a transfer. I finally got hold of someone who then left me on hold for hours again before the system disconnected our call at closing time. I was surprised to get a part sent to me at all, only to find that it IS THE WRONG PART. BUYER BEWARE the service here is non existent!
