I've been here a couple times. Each time we've waited a while for service. The rating is soley about service, it's not the best but definitely close to the worse. The hostesses at the front are super nice tho but it all ends once you get sat. Aside from the not so friendly server I had on my last visit, things were forgotten from my order. Also, the biggest thing, I asked for DECAF coffee and she brought me caffeinated coffee.. I know because if the affect it has on my body. It drives me insane to know that servers are out there that don't listen on specifics. I get that it's colonial heights and good workers are hard to find in that area but I mean dang, come on. Ate at IHOP about two months ago because of tv advertising about the two thick slices french toast with banana slices and whole small strawberries in its juices with syrup on the side. It was delicious and filling with I believe also had a little vanilla flavor in the french toast. Been there twice for the french toast. There's a new french toast with peaches got to try that kind next. I usually only ate there pancakes in which was the best Md. plus it's a busy place for breakfast. The place was extremely dirty. The floor was slippery from the amount of something like oil all over the floor. The table assigned to us was dirty as was one of the chairs or other tables. We decided to leave without breakfast but paying more attention to where we walked. It seemed that they had closed the previous day without cleaning and opened the next day (today). There is the possibility that the restaurants in the Southpark Mall food court will leave you bored or uninterested. In that case, you need not walk more than a few feet to go to the IHOP right next to the mall. Yeah, it's just another store in a large chain, and this one is nothing special. But I happened to be with a friend who wanted breakfast for dinner, so I figured hey, why not? After making my order, I was promptly served a salad and the chicken tenders that I had ordered as an appetizer. The chicken fingers were on a plate with fries and a dipping sauce, and for the most part they were okay, though I was a little unhappy about how there were only four of them. At this time, I also sampled some of the pancakes that my friend had ordered. Mixed with the four different kinds of syrup that they had, they were actually pretty good. My entree was okay but nothing spectacular. Turkey with gravy over stuffing, and corn and mashed potatoes and bread. This combination has been done to death before, and IHOP does nothing to make its attempt any better. But the people serving us were nice enough, and the food they served us was largely enjoyable. Ordered food online at 12:50pm and was supposed to be ready by 1:05pm. My daughter arrived at 1:15pm and food still was not ready! Plus, she had to go in to pick up a CURBSIDE order! This is by far the worst IHOP in Virginia! Service was ok from the server, but the time it took from ordering our food until it arrived on our table was extremely long. I felt like they literally were making the food from scratch even tho this is a chain type restaurant. The crepes took forever to make and then the server brought the wrong order. Then offered to fix it and took just as long bringing back the correct order. So just a very unsatisfying experience. Included a picture of the crepes after waiting an hour for this. Everyone was friendly. However, our waitress oddly brought our 7 year old a cup of coffee. Then, she forgot to put on my daughter's meal order. She blamed it on the cook, but it was obvious she forgot. She said she'd take it off the bill since we waited forever for it and everyone else done eating. I heard her tell the manager and he said 20 percent off. She put that in wrong and it ended up taking $1.00 off. We didn't quibble - just will never go back. The "Meh" award goes to IHOP today! The two star average for this place was spot on. We came here because circumstances had us out and about before 7AM today. Plus the fam loves pancakes. The food was somewhat consistent. Service was weak even with the fact that we were their only customers for at least 40 minutes. So it was pretty quiet with the place to ourselves with the exception of multiple complaining employees. I had to ask for refills twice. We got the check and I inserted my card and put it upright at the end of the table. 10 minutes went by which included a visit from the server to clear a plate. So I stood up to go pay up front and got a prompt "Sir we takes those up for you". So I returned and got a lecture why that's the case now... got my card back and rolled out. Didn't check reviews before I came here, mistake . After 20 minutes and no food the waitress came over to let us know that there was a party of seven that had ordered before us and they still had not received there food so we would not get ours until they were done fixing there's. I appreciate her letting us know but the place was not crowed at all. We waited about five more minutes and went up front to let them know we were leaving. There were two of us. They didn't seem overly concerned and we actually spoke to the DM who was walking out. He apologized and tried to give us a coupon but we declined and left. We've been here multiple times and always waited so long to get seated, and our food. It's a hit or miss. However, I give this a 5 stars only because our latest visit was spectacular. We went for dinner on my sons birthday (his pick over Texas Roadhouse! Lol) Our server was so quick and friendly to my family and my kids loved her. I recently visited the IHOP located in the SouthPark Mall and it was a complete disaster. First off, the food was horrible. Where do they get off serving "liquid eggs" I feel, if an establishment is going to serve artificial food, then they should inform the patron so no food allergies will be an issue. I have frequented IHOP from back in the day and they were known for their pancakes, eggs etc. Not the case here. In addition to all this the waiter was substandard as far as not checking on her patrons. The food as far as the pancakes were burnt and even the manager said the same when she came to our table. The meat that was served was disgusting. The bacon was substandard as well as the link sausage. I hope the management reads this and makes the necessary changes and or training for the staff. I also wish that the waiters would wear the proper hairnets as to not get hair in the patrons served food. read more

I've seen some pretty awful reviews regarding the service at this location, so I wanted to share my positive experience. I took my son for his birthday breakfast this morning knowing it would probably be busy. We were seated immediately and had our food and drink orders taken. Drinks came quickly. We did wait about 45 minutes for food but that was ok. We had the most amazing server. She was friendly and kept us up on what was happening with our order the entire time. Her smile never left even with several large parties including a party of 17 who came in after us. The food was hot and really good. We had pancakes, funnel cakes, and a melt across the table. This wasn't a good experience for me. It's my first time here, maybe because it's a Sunday I should hold back, but it's a madhouse. I called in my order and by the time I I showed up to pick it up I'm shocked. I see a lot of people that are hanging around the entrance I guess waiting to eat. There wasn't any kind of order so when I walked in I would've liked for someone to acknowledge me and either send me to one direction to take my name or find out if I'm here to pick up my order. Once I finally made eye contact with the lady she did jump in and she rang me out for my order. It just seems that it could be more orderly. They told us coffee got no free refills and when i showed them the menu they got me a free refill. However, both soap dispensers in the women's bathroom were empty when I went when I first got there, & immediately told a manger. My family and I came in for breakfast. The staff was unprofessional and the food took an extremely long time to come out. When it did come out there was a 10-15 min gap between when they brought the food out for the three members in our party. My son was almost finished his meal before mine and my lady's food was brought out. I'm still waiting for my food as I type this review. Several employees walked past us at the hostess stand as my family waited for over 10 minutes waiting to be acknowledged. I happened to catch the kitchen door swinging open and noticed a gaggle of employees in the back carrying on and laughing. We finally got seated after an employee who wasn't even the hostess decided to seat us. Met our waitress, she took our order, and again, waited 10minutes for just our waters and coffees. Over 45min has past and still no food nor visit from our waitress. Even after I spoke to another waitress, and we decided to leave, we see our waitress on the way out, told her we were leaving, her response was "Ok" like this was the Jay-Z "OJ" song.
