My kids and I had some last minute Christmas shopping to do for family members so we stopped by the Southpark Mall in Colonial Heights to knock that out. As I have three kids and none of them could decide what the wanted I unwisely offered them to eat at the food court. This meant, I ended up taking each of my three kids to a separate location in the food court, because they couldn't agree in the food court either. For my part I ended up at Knockout Burgers with my youngest son. While he ordered a cheeseburger, I decided to give the Cheese Steak a try. I don't have a lot to say about the cheese steak, it was fairly average even for mall fare. I've certainly had a better cheese steak, I've even had better cheese steaks from a mall. Admittedly, I don't live in the area and I doubt I'd ever visit the mall here again. Even if I did end up at the mall again, I think I'd give another place a try.

One K.O. Cheeseburger ($3.89) with added beef ($1.25) and American cheese ($0.25); one large lamb gyro ($8.99)

I'm giving Knockout Burgers & Cheese Steak four stars because this place is actually surprisingly good for mall food court standards. Even if this were just a standalone restaurant, I would probably be giving it the same rating. I am impressed with this place primarily because of how large the portions are and how good the food tastes. That is key when running a restaurant, and it's a surprise how many places still can't get that right. Definitely one of the stronger options for quick food in the area, though be advised that you may gain weight as a result. I got the K.O. Cheeseburger for $3.89 and added beef for $1.25 and American cheese for $0.25. This thing was a pretty sizable, double-decker sandwich with the usual tomato and pickle, and it tasted great. I also got the large lamb gyro for $8.99; it's not very often that you come across a restaurant that serves both cheeseburgers and gyros. The two halves that it was cut into were both pretty hefty, and it too was a treat for the taste buds. The whole thing was wrapped in aluminum foil that insulated the heat for hours. Finally, a decent fast food restaurant in the area that can keep me happy and satisfied.

There is a pretty small public parking lot directly across the street, and it was full, so I'm not 100% sure if we parked in the public parking or the parking lot of the glass shop next-door since there weren't really any signs. I really hate parking in the middle of any town, but it wasn't too bad. But I'm still not sure if we could've gotten a ticket or not. You seat yourself in this really awesome classic rock themed restaurant. The decor is great, a perfect mix of interesting things to look at, without being super claustrophobic-ly overwhelming. It is really cute. We took a minute to look over the menu, and decided on the house cut chips appetizer, and both a beef and chicken Shawarma for us to try both. The beef Shawarma was delicious. I really like the seasoning that they use on their meat or sauce or something. I never could place what it was or where it was, but the flavor is just heavenly. A little sweet, a little savory and delicious. The fresh pickled veggies were also amazing. They were still crisp with that snap that you really want with pickled foods. Chicken Shawarma was definitely my favorite since it had slightly different pickled vegetables. They were both good, but the chicken was definitely my favorite by just a touch. The bread was a little hard and chewy for my likings, it definitely stood up to the creamy sauce and the juicy pickled vegetables, but it almost hurt my teeth if you just had a dry spot that hadn't been soaking in some form of liquid. The house cut chips are just OK, nothing special by themselves, but that trio of dipping sauces was amazing. We were dipping our fries into it because we liked those a little better than the chips, but we ate almost every drop of that sauce trying to figure out which one was our favorite. one of the hot sauces is blueberry and very sweet with a mild spice, one is I think mango and not spicy initially, but when you swallowed, you definitely felt it burn in the back of your throat. It was a nice sneaky heat, which I love. And the third dipping sauce, we could not place, but we literally could not figure out which one we loved the most. They have a patio outside with lots of tables, but we did not go out there. It looks cute in the pictures though. The downside, is that while the service was very great, if you catch them out a bad time, they don't yet seem to be able to handle huge amounts of orders. They've only been open for about two months, I think, so that will come in time. It seems that they only have one guy cooking in the back, so we were unluckily there at the same time as a table of eight people. If we had all the time in the world, I could have sat and stared at the decor for ages. But unfortunately, if you are on a lunch break or have to be somewhere, they could potentially be so backed up it takes quite a while to actually get your food. It was a rare and random set of circumstances, and probably does not happen often, and she generously comped our chips which was not necessary but was very appreciated. The service here is absolutely top-notch. We will definitely be back for more of that delicious Shawarma. Definitely earlier in the day though, so we can sit as long as we want.

Service was good and atmosphere nice. I really hope they make it…read more That being said, went for lunch, twice. Might be that Lebanese food is not my thing. I found the chicken pita/wrap dry and bland. The burger way too large, overcooked and dry. I'll admit, I'm a saucy person and like lots of flavors and textures, which I didn't find in my couple of visits. The fried cauliflower was tasty, but wish the pitas accompanying them were warm, or at least not cold.

We got a pepperoni pizza, loaded tater tots, mild lemon pepper wings, a beef patty with pepperoni and cheese, and garlic bread bites. They estimated that the order would take 15-20 minutes to make and when we arrived 17 minutes later they told me they needed five more minutes. They were nice enough to bring it out to the car once it was ready. So we wanted pizza and I think that was the best item that we had. The pizza was piping hot with plenty of cheesy goodness. The sauce was slight sweet and the ratio of sauce to cheese was good. The crust was a good thickness and it was light and slightly chewy. Everything else sort of missed the mark. The wings were ok but not very crispy. The stuffed tater tots tasted like a loaded baked potato, which was great but they also weren't crisp on the outside, which was what I was expecting. The garlic bread bites tasted stale. They were overly chewy and the garlic parmesan topping was inconsistently covering them. The beef patty looked like a frozen patty from the grocery store that had been sliced open with pepperoni and cheese stuffed inside. It looked pretty pitiful and wasn't worth $2 extra for the pepperoni and cheese. I would come here again, but next time, I would only get pizza.
