I consider myself quite the connoisseur of down home Virginia cooking, and it can be hard to find a place that gets it right, but Nanny's knocks it out of the park. The parking lot isn't jumping for nothing! A lot of the reviews mention the items available in detail, and the menu rotates a little, so I'm going to stick to the highlights. Navy bean soup - outstanding and very soppable. String beans - perfectly cooked. Mashed potatoes topped with some hamburger steak and gravy - homemade and melt in your mouth. Crispy crunchy moist fried chicken. Seasoned and tender greens. All the BBQ offerings - traditional and flavorful without doing too much. The desserts? Fresh out of your gramma's kitchen. I did almost take off a star because the banana pudding didn't have any whip or meringue on top, but everything was so outstanding I'll let it slide :) The price is, I think, more than fair for the quality of the food. They also never let anything run out for too long and fresh supply was in and out of the kitchen regularly. However, because I was in a hurry to get back home and there were only a few cars in the drive-thru, I decided to place my order there instead. After placing my order, I was instructed to pull forward to the pickup window. When I arrived, the window was open, and I could see two employees working hard to prepare and serve orders for both the dining room and the drive-thru. While I appreciate their effort, what I saw next was completely unacceptable. As I waited for my order, my attention was drawn to the floor and the pass-through area where food is staged before being placed into bags or onto trays. During my twenty years of military service I have traveled extensively and have seen a lot over the years, but I honestly do not have the words to adequately describe how filthy this area was. The floor beneath the pass-through counter and everything visible from my vantage point was covered with an alarming amount of dirt and grime. The conditions were so unsanitary that I found it hard to believe the restaurant was operating, let alone that it had passed any health inspection. I immediately canceled my order because I no longer had confidence in the cleanliness of the restaurant or the safety of the food being served. I then drove to Bojangles and placed my order there. Before accepting my food, I looked through their drive-thru window as well. The food preparation area I could see was clean and well maintained, which gave me confidence in my purchase. I am writing this review because I genuinely like Hardee's and would like to continue being a customer. However, cleanliness in a restaurant is not optional--it is a basic expectation. I sincerely hope management takes this review seriously, addresses these unacceptable conditions immediately, and restores the restaurant to the level of cleanliness that customers deserve.

We met the owner's mom who said that the owner is 12 years old & they bought the shop in September 2025. They plan to have a ribbon cutting ceremony in June 2026. It was a great conversation & I was excited to learn about this black-owned business. She still has Hershey ice cream flavors & great deals. She allowed my teen to have a million samples until he finally made up his mind. Very patient and accommodating to him. They also have 2 ice cream food trucks for rent.
