THE FOOD WAS GOOD I came in to the SternCo Center IHOP in Bellevue on July 22, 2019, along with a friend of mine, whom I decided to treat for lunch. My friend ordered one of the 55+ combination breakfasts. I don't know which one, since the receipt does not itemize exactly what was ordered (funky!) Most restaurant receipts tell exactly what was ordered. Anyway, I ordered their chocolate pancakes, which came with a side of four strips of bacon. We also each had an orange juice. I don't remember my friend having any complaints about the food. As for me, I liked my chocolate pancakes very much. The bacon did not seem to be warm enough, but I think I waited too long before eating my two strips (my bad, the other two strips I shared with my friend). BUT THE SERVICE WAS SLOW Our server was Naomi. The food took what seemed like forever before it finally came. This is by both mine, and my friend's estimation as my friend asked me to check up on the food. Therefore I got up to ask Naomi re: our order, who was fetching food from the line. She stated that the food had just arrived (I noticed my chocolate pancakes sitting on the line just as I came up). I then immediately went back to my seat. But she seemed distracted, as it seemed to be another whole minute or two, before she brought our food out. However, it was lunchtime, and the restaurant seemed to be "in the weeds", as they say in the restaurant business. ALSO IT WAS TOO NOISY AT LUNCH TIME And no marvel, as we both wanted to go to a quiet place to have our conversation. In fact, I asked Naomi to put us in the quietest place. But the whole place was very noisy at the time, even by lunchtime standards (but at least they did not have any music playing). I don't think my friend had too difficult a time hearing me speak. But my hearing is not what it used to be as I frequently had to cup my ear to hear him above the din. Nevertheless, that would've been unnecessary in a quieter place. NOT FAST FOOD, NOR CHUMP CHANGE! The receipt was $31.63, including tax (about $28.47 before tax), which upon reflection a day later, seemed a bit pricey for what we ordered. If the receipt were itemized, I could know just how much I paid for each item. And yet, I added another five dollars tip because Naomi was nice and because it was their busiest time. (It also helped that we were not in a hurry). I knew I should not have ordered orange juice as this is one place where restaurants really will ding you. Their orange juice is $3.99, BUT with free refills (how many?). Next time, I may just order water, or at the very least have a refill or two of orange juice! Also, although IHOP is not cheap fast food, I would have expected our orders to be closer to $10 for each of us, rather than $15 for each of us. Upon reflection again, I don't think the food bill was that big after all (it was the orange juice and especially my inattention to the menu that made my wallet unduly smaller). 3 STARS IN THE END ANALYSIS I give this place three stars because despite the slow service, noise, and price,the food was good, Naomi was nice, it was their busy lunch hour, and I have to cut 'em slack on account of my ADD. read more

I haven't been to IHOP since the pandemic. Decided to go recently for breakfast and was impressed with their service. In the past their service was mediocre but our waitress, unfortunately forgot to get her name, was the best waitress I've ever had. She was so nice, made sure we had everything we needed. I was so impressed. During our meal, I'm assuming the manager, stopped by to ask us if everything is going well. I was blown away by the service at this location. We joined the waitlist online for a party of six including four kids and arrived to find that our online request never made it through because apparently they only use the Yelp reservation system on the weekends. Faced with a 40 minute wait and starving kids, we left. Once back in the car, Yelp prompted us to check our place on the waitlist. Ha. Do I feel cheated. I ordered a fairly large meal. Sampler for the appetizer, burger with egg and hash brown. Tipped more than generously and asked for extra ranch. Instead I have one ranch and two ketchup. Haha. Thought I had a nice moment with a service person and giving extra cash including a two dollar bill (being generous since I respect service people and made an extra request for a lot of ranch). Pathetic service! Went there on 03/22 around 10:20pm. Ordered one spicy chicken ranch sandwich, waited for 25 minutes and inquired the the waiter 2-3 times, he said "We are running a little bit delay" and walked away (all the times). I asked him to cancel the order at 10:40 pm and he was "oh,yes! We can absolutely cancel the order". There was no courtesy in his tone or didn't even care, he just said "oh, sorry you had to wait" in a very mild tone. He was walking here and there, chatting inside the kitchen.. he glanced us multiple times when he crossed us but didn't even care to inform that the order will be delayed. Literally the only place open if you work mornings and want breakfast, so I'm giving a full star extra for that. I'm not into the sugary/starchy pancake/waffle/crepe type of breakfast, so most of my rating is based on their other breakfast items. The omlettes are ridiculously huge (too much toppings), and always cooked hard. Steak and eggs is very middling: the steak is almost always overcooked, and I'm pretty sure they are microwaving it. Eggs are okay, they come cooked to order, correctly. Hashbrowns are good. Coffee is okay. Chicken fried steak is pretty bad, quite bland and very oily. Hot tea - the water is never hot enough (I suspect they are just pulling it from the side spout on a coffee urn) and served with a cold teapot to steep it in, so it cannot steep correctly. They don't even have biscuits and gravy on the menu (even though they have all the necessary makings for it). Service is good and prompt. The other patrons are often loud and swear a lot, but there isn't' much to be done about that I suppose. Price is reasonable (for the quantity) if you order a combo, but al la carte items are way overpriced; $5 for a slice of ham?! read more

I've eaten here dozens of times over the years. There have certainly been ups and downs but overall this is one of the better IHOP's I've eaten at. Our most recent visit as a family of 6 was great. Arrival to seating was just a few minutes. Service was attentive, friendly and considerate. Our food was perfectly prepared and drinks were refilled quickly and after the waitress asked. It used to be a family-favorite Sunday breakfast place, one I looked forward to... the pancakes were good and there were tons of syrups to try. Now I just feel like it's a one-speed sugar emporium. If you don't want their soy-flour enriched pancakes, you're going to find yourself limited to their anemic bacon or fake-eggs-from-a-carton. I have to stick to the grilled cheese; it's about all I can stand there. My daughter loves their kid offerings, but last time we went, I let her get the chocolate chip pancakes, and as my normally well-behaved child literally bounced off the booth and around the two or three-table area where we were sitting, I tried to figure out what the hell I'd done to deserve this nightmare. I paid and wrestled her to the car, where she fell asleep within 10 minutes. When she woke up 30 minutes later, the first thing she said was, "Mommy, I'm sorry that I was so bad in that restaurant" -- well, at least it wasn't ALL about craziness. The prices have gone up more than inflation since I was a kid and the food just isn't that good here. Extremely poor service. A few days before this visit we waited 20 min, were sat at a table and then ordered. It wasn't until after we ordered we were told here was an additional 45 minute wait... So we had to leave because of our lunch break. We came back a couple days later again, with unfriendly service. We just came here for the first time in years and we're very pleasantly surprised by the new menu and all the healthy options. Most awful IHOP ever! I'm Brazilian, so I am a fan of American chain restaurants. I love them! IHOP is one of my long-lasting loves. It used to be a treat having an American breakfast like in the movies. But this branch is terrible! You have to wait in a non-organized manner to be seated. Then you finally sit at your booth (which is kind of dirty) and you are waited by an unfriendly person, who is willing to argue with you about the definition of iced coffee. Apparently, at IHOP, iced coffee means sugary iced latte. Then you get your food, which does not taste good. It's just pure sugar! Then after that, the waitress drops off your check at your table and you wait forever because nobody has told you that you have to pay at the cashier. I don't wanna beat up on IHOP too much, what's the point right? It just seems mean. I had only been to an IHOP once before in my life, and the experience did not drive me to come back. But, I saw that you get a free b-day entree if you sign up for their email list. And I will eat almost anywhere for free. So there we went with low expectations. Sad looking joint with bad 90's music on. Our server was perfectly nice and efficient. It was what was advertised, a free meal. It was a scramble with potatoes and gravy and sausage and cheese and ... oy, I tried not to look at the calorie count. It was not horrible. It wasn't particularly good either, but better than Denny's which is why I am rating this place a star up from Denny's. My family comes here for breakfast once or twice a year. And it's always the same: not great, and not terrible. The pros: The menu is extensive, with bfast fare offered all day, as well as tons of sandwiches and salads. Their new fruit cooler drinks (made with Minute Maid oj) are really delicious, and there are free refills. The prices are reasonable. We've always had decent service - not super attentive, but not negligent, either. Mediocre is an apt description. The food itself is good. Not great, but good. And, as mentioned, there's such a huge selection of choices, it's easy for everyone in any party/family to find something they want. And they've a particularly good selection of meals for toddlers. The cons: The building is fairly old and decrepit. The booths and seats are fairly close together. The women's bathroom is nasty; the toilets are perpetually bubbling (weird plumbing issues going on) and it's never really....clean. Because this place offers family fare, we've often encountered loud babies and rambunctious toddlers (our neighboring party had a baby and a toddler this past weekend, and the toddler was eating messily - as toddlers do - and mashed food was spewing everywhere, including our table. It's not very often that I go out to eat breakfast, so when I do, I don't like to be disappointed. I know that IHOP restaurants are everywhere; they don't call it "international" for nothing. But this was my first time dining at one, and I really wasn't expecting much. It's a pretty generic greasy spoon, but it still gets the job done. That's about the only thing it has going for it. Pour yourself a bowl of cereal for breakfast; it would be less of a burden on your wallet and you would also probably find it more satisfying. This place in particular is rather nondescript. It was very quiet, which made it feel even more dull. The waitress the whole time looked like she hated her job, and it's a shame because that's almost certainly the case. I gave her a big tip to try to brighten up her day, but it's certainly depressing for someone who's used to perky waitresses. I ordered a breakfast with a T-bone steak, two eggs, three pancakes, and an extra hash brown for an additional price. The wait for this whole thing took a little over ten minutes. Most of it shouldn't have taken that long to make, but it's not a big deal. I'll start with the steak. I ordered it medium rare, and it was a little tough but still edible. It was almost impossible to separate the meat from the bone cleanly, much to my annoyance. And it was barely warm by the time it got to my table. I know that I didn't ask for it to be cooked a lot, but this one had lost a lot of its heat by the time it arrived. Maybe they should try making it toward the end so it doesn't spend a lot of time cooling down. Otherwise, it was okay. The poached eggs that I got in the same plate were not just watery; they were basically swimming in water. They seem to have been made carelessly. Either that, or they took my order too literally. The pancakes that I got were fluffy but plain. The weird thing about them is that when I tried to dig into them with a fork, the skin peeled off very easily. Are pancakes supposed to do this? I'm actually not sure. The huge supply of maple syrup really saved them, though. And the hash brown was thin and stringy; thankfully there was ketchup for it, because otherwise I would wish I hadn't gotten it. The hash browns that McDonald's serves for breakfast are more enjoyable, and there's something wrong if McDonald's does breakfast better than IHOP. The bill for the meal came to $16.73. It's not like I'm shocked by it, since I knew the prices of what I was ordering in advance. The problem is that the food seems to have been made without attention to detail, and it's clear that nobody working there likes their job. The waitress ignored me after I started eating and didn't come back to refill my water. I was already done with it anyway, so I won't count it against her. But I think I feel happier eating somewhere that takes the food and service more seriously. I had a lunch here today following after my fiance's family. It's Mother's Day so I won't complain about the long wait to be fair. I ordered a Breakfast Sampler which is a mix of two bacons, two sausages, two slices of ham, egg cooked in the way I wanted, hashed brown, and two buttermilk pancakes. They tasted fine but it was only slightly better than frozen food in my opinion. Might as well save my time and gas. I also poked at my fiance's Swedish Crepes. We both agreed that it's bit too fat and lack the flavor of the cooked brown surface to call it Swedish style. I remember having better Swedish Crepe at IKEA. Absolutely unbelievably bad service and long wait. Had a party of 8 and was estimated way off while constantly told I was next. Never offered any accomodation to split up. I was only seated after speaking to the manager where we suddenly had a clean table available... We were sat and had our drink order taken quickly, only to wait a long period of time. The server brought our drinks with her fingers around the rim... And didn't bring enough straws as several of us then sat waiting for straws... Food took over 50 minutes and the table was missing a crepe. The kids Mac and cheese was completely cold and the pancakes were so cold butter wouldn't melt and the pancakes were already hardening. They tried to make up for it with fresh pancakes on to deliver gooey barely cooked ones. This all occured while the yelp app said the restaurant had zero wait. I'm really at a loss as to how so many things could go so poorly. I was at the Lynnwood location a week before and everything went great. I can't recommend village square cafe, brown bag, or even Denny's enough over Bellevue IHOP. UPDATE: I spoke with the manager and while she really couldn't make it right, the feedback was professionally taken and an effort was made to discuss improvements. We went to IHOP again in the evening, the cashier said there is nothing he can do, and he asked us to come again the next day. Are you kidding me? Why should we keep coming in person while this is your mistake? We were angry so he called his manager (the lady who suppose to call us), she then said she'll call at 9am the next day. But she did not, she called at 11am. She asked us to go to IHOP (again...), she left $15 at the cash desk. That's all, no apology!!! We need to go to IHOP to take $15 back.
