Not sure what I can say to describe this place but I'll try. Iggys is the place I take people visiting the city. It encapsulates everything right and beautiful about this city. From the fun karaoke to the colorful clientele to the well made drinks to the incredible staff, iggys is and has been me and my friends go to for years. It's where I've met my girlfriend, it's where I've met many friends, learned to sing mr. brightside to the word, rediscovered running, and where I go for game days. Went here last night and they totally LIED about their happy hour. I was meeting a friend who was in town for a few days and arrived right after 7 (Monday night) i was happy to see their sign when I walked in that stated "whole bar half price til 8). I walked up to the bar, ordered from the male bartender, ordered a Stoli O & Soda...then said "this is included in the happy hour right?" He then said happy hour ended at 7...I said, no the sign says its til 8. He then scurried away leaving me drink-less. After standing around a few minutes a female bartender approached and asked if I'd like to order. I said that I gave the guy my order but he disappeared. The girl then proceeded to take about 5 minutes to pour me a vodka soda! I didn't realize it was such a tricky cocktail to craft! After getting my drink, I decided to go outside to snap a pic of the sign to show the bartenders that it indeed said 8pm. That's when I realized where the original bartender had scurried off too - the sign was gone!!! I know I didn't just see the sign wrong because my friend who walked in with me read the same thing (as did other friends who were at the bar). I wasn't coming here expecting drink specials...but I do expect a bar to honor their advertised prices. If you want to end your happy hour at 7....FINE...but GET A NEW SIGN! Totally misleading...I felt like me (and everyone else in the bar) had been scammed. Shady, Shady, Shady!!! Will I come back to this place? I'm not giving Iggy's three stars because it isn't fancy. Reviews are scalable, and the three stars are granted to Iggy's with the full knowledge that Iggy's could quite rightfully be renamed Icky's. Yes, it is dirty. Yes, it is smelly. Yes, the bathrooms are gross. But so what? It's a DIVE BAR! That's how dive bars are SUPPOSED to be! Yet Iggy's is still only worth three stars, because it's just not that great of a dive bar. Fist of all, what kind of dive bar charges $5 for PBR? It should be $3 max! Secondly, the karaoke isn't that good. There's always a long line. My friend put a song request in and two hours later it still wasn't played. Also, the volume of both the music and the singers is usually somewhere between deafening and ear-piercing. And, Iggy's can get overcrowded and chlostrophia-enducing. Iggy's is the kind of place you go to at 3 a.m. when you're already three sheets to the wind and looking for one last cheap drink. Or maybe a cheap thrill. read more

I don't know why I keep coming back to this dump.. Actually I do, Ryan is awesome, but since he left I won't be back. The worst part of this place is the HORRIBLE karaoke host. Besides showing way too much cleavage (it's not cute hunny, you need to cover that up, no one wants to see that, trust me) she only puts in songs for either people she knows or people that tip her well (I've tested this theory and I know it's true). We arrived at 9:30 so the place wasn't too packed and it still managed to take over 3 hours for that "host" to call just one of our 5 songs we requested. If that wasn't bad enough the bartender I had was incompetent. She kept forgetting what I ordered and had to keep asking, plus I had to ask her about 5 times to close my tab. Fun, chill place, nice staff. Had a fun time with many friends here. There is a dance floor, which is alright. Karaoke nights are fun here. They have a wide selection of songs. However, it takes a while for your request song to come up - my only complaint is against DJ Manny, - he is biased, and selects his favorite song requesters to sing early out of turn, and turns down the microphone when some other people sing. If you want to be treated well, than don't go here. I stopped by with my friends around 11 PM for some karaoke. We had been drinking for a while and I just needed some water to sober up a bit. The bartender told me that if I was going to stay at the bar, I had to order a drink. This is after I had paid to sing some songs for Karaoke. I didn't realize drinking alcohol is a requirement to go to a Karaoke bar. I just ignored him and decided I didn't want water. My other friend, not knowing that the bartender had refused to serve me water, went up to get water as well. He was driving so he wasn't drinking. The bartender said no to him as well. He decided just to go to another bartender and asked for water. As the guy was about to serve my friend water, the first bartender came running over to tell him not to serve my friend water. I think it is ridiculous to refuse to serve water to someone who is being responsible. He had to drive home, he was not drinking. read more

Unless you know somebody who works there good luck getting a chance to sing. Went there with a group this weekend and only one of us got to sing over the course of 2-3 hours. Meanwhile the same 3 or 4 people sang multiple times, sometimes two songs in a row. The $2 charge per song wouldn't have been a big deal, if we ever actually got to sing. But we didn't so it's a load of crap. There are other and better places that don't charge per song and you actually have a variety of people take turns. What a concept! In the past it was a decent place, but the clientele has gotten to be very douchie. There are plenty of other and better spots. Don't bother. read more

This place is HORRIBLE! Last night I went with my fiance, his brother and a friend expecting to have a good time because I've been here before and I really liked it. Boy was I wrong. We got there while the place was still relatively empty (well it was 8:45 on a Friday night). My brother-in-law wanted to sing so he put in a song and about 10 minutes later so did my fiance. The DJ got things rolling at 9pm and introduced the first few singers. The place started to get kind of crowded and more people sang. After an hour we all realized that the DJ totally skipped over us because people who came in WAY AFTER us were taking turns on the stage, especially this group of bachelorettes who kept getting turns over and over again. My brother-in-law's song FINALLY came about 5 mins before the time we planned to leave the dump, two and a half hours after we got there. To add insult to injury, our drinks were so watered down that we didn't even get half a buzz. C'mon, truthfully, I'm a 5'3" 122 lb woman. I had 2 whiskey sours (Jack Daniels) and a Vodka Tonic with Belvedere in the course of just an hour. I shouldn't have been able to stand with all of that. This was an unpleasant experience heightened my managements unwillingness to accommodate customers after a failed communication mishap on Iggys part. We were told over the phone that there was karaoke and cabbed it over 20 blocks to find out that there was not any karaoke and when we informed the manager he told us to come back the next day. And I try really hard not to be judgmental. We put in a request RIGHT away, paid the $1 or whatever, and waited, and waited, and waited. Over an hour. And the place wasn't crowded. After reading the reviews posted by a few of the little sweethearts regarding Iggy's I have a pretty good idea of where they usually like to kick up their pumps and khaki's. If you want a high end dive with kick-ass bartenders who don't give attitude- just cheap booze- sit down, pony up 6 bucks and get a beer and a shot. Watered down? If I know anything, I know what whiskey tastes like, and if you can find a shot of Jack or Turkey with a beer for the same price, go there, stop bitching, and let me drink in relative calm. And yes, this bar is terribly out of place on the UES- it's called "working class" and that's where I like drinking. read more

Karaoke on the Upper East Side, why not. Drinks are cheap! This is a major plus. This place is a MAJOR dump, however. It has not been renovated...ever. It's kind of skeevy to be honest. However, if you're looking for cheap drinks...and a show this is the place. People go here and get so drunk and they sing their hearts out....and the drunk members of the audience sings and dances along...oh my...it is one hell of a show. This is a local bar in my neighborhood. I went in last year to watch the NFL playoffs, as they have a huge screen in their back room. I had gone to several places to find somewhere for some friends to watch the game, but every bar had all these ridiculous requirements. There were outrageous minimums...it really started to look like we were going to have to watch at home.. But when I walked into Iggys, it was a completely different story. It was business as usual. Nothing was different, and the manager/owner Ryan, was as nice as he could be. So, when The Holistic Chamber of Commerce was looking for a space to have thier monthly networking evening, I went back to Iggys to see if that could work out. Ryan couldn't have been more accommodating. He was delighted that we would come to have our event there. He called ME on the day of the networking to confirm...to see if we needed anything! I mean, where did this guy come from???? Such a lovely man...such a gracious host to our event. EVERYONE who worked there was so incredibly helpful and nice, it was a pleasure. They even kept the bar area (which is set back from the room we were in) quiet so we could have our speaker have the full attention of our audience. Crazy, but true. Ryan, and his place Iggy's is a real find. If you are having a party...get together, or just want to hang out and watch some sports...have time out with friends...this place is a GEM. This PLACE ROCKS. we would go there after our kickball games and from Ryan to Sammi the staff are super friendly and extremely nice. I was never a big karaoke person but now i am. Having ONE bartender for the WHOLE bar for the first USA vs. England game in the WORLD CUP......no good. In the hour I waited I couldn't even get a Diet Coke from the bartender. She was rude, not doing her job, and tons of people were walking out. I don't really like karaoke or bars that are completely karaoke-centric, so three stars is a pretty good review from me. It gets 3 stars because I went there at 1:30am on a random Tuesday night and they still had a karaoke DJ there calling out people to sing. I'm impressed by that level of dedication. I came here for Karaoke. I signed up for my song, which I had been wanting to do for a couple weeks. Then I go up to do 'Nelly - EI'. and a few seconds in they stop my song and tell me. "No Rap". The place itself was tiny.. The drinks are OK, nothing to rave about.. We went there on a Saturday night around 2.. the place was packed.. We waited for more than 2 hrs for our turn to sing, but unfortunately we just got tired of waiting. The grossest part of the experience was not the bathrooms, but the flooring of the dance area... I went in a couple month ago while I was visiting with some friends. The place is awesome! We got to meet Iggy and he even have up a shot on the house. We went in early afternoon and it was very chill and had a great atmosphere. We went back later that same night and it was even better. The karaoke was great as were the people. What can I say? There was a guy walking around polishing off (actually drinking) all the half empty glasses of beer that littered the "dance floor". I actually kind of like this place. On the right night, when you've packed the place with your own friends, that is. The wind blows in some questionable characters, who seem to have come for the heat or to get close to the throngs of Northbound run-of-the-mill tramp-stamped chitterlings of Murray Hill that congregate en-masse. Hey - if you wanna feel like the Kansas City Karaoke Queen for a night, they do have an elevated stage and functional screens on all sides which means you can really perform. Just a great shitty dive bar located in the UES where you can drink cheap booze, sing some karaoke on top of a stage, and dance the night away. Don't come before midnight and don't come sober or you will absolutely hate this place! However, come there ANY night to see the 80 year old Women dressed up in her fancy 1950's getup with way too much makeup sipping some alcoholic drink and trying to hang out with the drunkin crowd! My friends and I always have a blast here. If you tell them you're bringing 20 of your friends, you and your friends drink for free for an hour! Plus once you get a little booze in your system it's always hilarious to laugh at all those people who are shamelessly singing another backstreet boys song. Yes, it is a small bar, but the owner Iggy I met a few times, and he is super sweet and always makes sure everything is going well on the weekends by being there for hours or sometimes the whole night. This gets four stars because the bathroom. There's like only two bathrooms, not even stalls. So the line is rediculous. read more

As far as karaoke bars go, this one has less flash and sparkle than most, and I say that in a complimentary way. My roomie just held a fundraiser here, and the staff was most accommodating to her needs. We all got drink specials and free karaoke for everyone that donated $15 towards her charity run, which ain't too shabby for a Thursday night out! The bar area was long and narrow. If I stood in the middle of the passageway between the wall in front of the bar and the bar itself, I could touch the wall with one hand and easily touch the bar with the other. In short: it's a NARROW space! Not only is it narrow, it is long! It took me approximately 7 years, 56 days, 2 hours, and 17 minutes (...or, about 20 seconds, if you want me to NOT exaggerate my point) to walk from the front of the bar to the back. Beyond the bar is a HUGE room with lots of lights, tables, mirrors, and a mini-stage to sing your booze-filled power ballads. The songbook provided is QUITE impressive. It was like studying a college textbook; easily just as thick as most! (Not enough Lady Gaga, I felt, but, to each their own. Did I really want to see half a page of Alan Jackson songs? Not so much...) The crowd is supportive, no matter how much you suck. My rendition of "Save the Best for Last" by Vanessa Williams was met, at the end, with a standing ovation by some. Most of it was probably drunken praise, but I'll take what I can get. ;-) I think it'd be rad to go back there. I didn't drink, but I heard the drinks were decent. I heard the bar food provided (fries, wings, burgers, and the like) was passable, too. Wow, just wow. Is this how 30 somethings party it up on the UES? At Iggy's you can find girls dancing not to the rhythm of what's playing, but to what's inside their head. You'll find the nerdy guy at your office crawling on the floor seductively trying to get a girl's attention while she is up on stage singing Britney Spears. I used to come here a lot more than I used to, mainly because I used to live two blocks away and sometimes my buddies and I would need a change of pace from hanging out at Mo's. We'd go next door, we'd hoist a few with Iggy, we'd eventually get tired and wander back to Mo's. Well, Mo's in gone, but Iggy's remains. It's still more narrow than a railroad apartment, dirtier than Penn Station and its bartenders are still wonderfully surly. Almost scary how fun karaoke can be when alcohol is mixed. Iggy's provides a great atmosphere (although the small space reaches sweaty temperatures when there are too many people present) for grabbing the microphone and belting out your favorite song like "Sweet Caroline". The bartenders, MC and waitresses are very nice and will quickly re-fill your drink so you don't sober up before your musical performance. The place smelled like garbage on a hot day as soon as we walked in. The rest rooms are horrible. Just plain nasty. The bartender was nice but the drinks were weak. If I hadn't paid the $35 for open bar my ass would have been gone. I do have to say they did have a good song selection. But the chic in charge of the Karaoke sucked. We almost waited two hrs before they called us up to sing. Mind you there wasn't that many people there and the same people kept singing. DJ Brooke you suck. The crowd wasn't exactly my favorite. I can't give this place 5 stars because well it could be better. sunday nights are whats up there. I use to go there every sunday. The bartenders karl and justin are pretty awesome. Specially if you're a regular there. FREE SHOTS! who doesn't love that? but if you don't like random dudes creeping on you the whole time and really loud music with some horrible people singing..i wouldn't suggest going. if you like to be entertained by people and have a good time and sing and dance. go. I have never had a bad time there.. down side to it all is on some days they don't have enough bartenders..so it might take a while to get a drink. their bar is huge! the bathrooms are dirty and broken half the time..so if you can look past that you're fine. andd there is no minimum on credit card. considering i paid like 20 dollars included tip. read more
