Considering how this place is right next door to the famous Stumble Inn, I'd say it is an under-rated bar in the UES. Very narrow and dive-y when you first walk in, but then opens up to a larger room in the back which can accommodate larger groups. They have good specials pretty much every night of the week, and a free whisky shot if you check in on yelp! How thoughtful! I also like their wings, very crispy and well seasoned. There was a time when I would have given Iggy's 5 stars. I used to live around the corner from it and would go there specifically for karaoke. I've since moved, but have gone back several times, and have not liked some of the recent changes. For one, karaoke used to be completely free (except for Fridays and Saturdays) and I don't like that you have to pay a dollar a song even if the bar is relatively empty. I also feel like the bar has gotten more press (good for it!), which means it's a LOT more crowded (and douchier) on weekends. In fact, I'm pretty sure that you won't be able to sing most weekends unless you reserve the karaoke area. The last time I was there on a Friday, I only got to sing one song... and I had to wait 3 hours for it to come up. Negative asides, I love this place b/c it is a true dive bar- a rare and surprisingly refreshing thing to see in the UES. The bartenders are very friendly and will remember you if you go there often enough- they also serve nothing but stiff drinks. I also appreciate that Iggy's has a strong flow of "regulars" who give the bar character and provide some choice people watching. There is one reason people should come to Iggy's...KARAOKE!! It gets ridiculous. I have yet to find a more accessible karaoke stage in the city with such a large musicbook. During the day on the weekends (before the drunk formerhighschoolchoirfolks dominate the back area), the screens double as huge projector screens for sports games. The one thing that puzzles me about the bar is the sparse seating -- it's as if management wants to maintain a dance floor or concert standing-room-only mentality to the stage, when I bet more tables and benches, or an area for beer pong/games would boost business and turn this place into a righteous beer hall! read more

I came here first with my co-workers for a Karaoke night and I occasionally visit this place with my friends now and then. It's crowded sometimes and totally empty other times but when it's crowded, strangers clap and dance to another stranger's terrible singing and it's so much fun. To be blunt, I was already several sheets to the wind when I ended up at Iggy's. But, judging by some of the other reviews, maybe that's why I had such a freaking awesome time. Yes, I had a freaking amazingly awesome time. Granted, I think I need a week or two to detox after it, but damn. Wow I had a lot of text messages this morning. And I'm still finding slips of paper with random phone numbers scrawled on them (I'm old school like that). Yeah, I think I had a real good time. And all my friends seem to have a great time, too. It was just such a happy, merry place. Oh, and they have Jane Says as karaoke, which automatically gets them a couple of stars. OK, yes, there was an extremely long wait until I finally got to sing Jane Says (which didn't help, considering several more vodkas were consumed between initially wanting to do Jane Says and finally doing it). Three hours? It was a really long wait. And only happened when a friend tipped, er, bribed, the karaoke DJ. So, if you're looking for a place where you can sing your heart out, this probably isn't it. But, if you don't mind entertaining yourself during the long wait for your song, and dancing your ass off to other peoples' bad renditions, then you, too, might just have a fabulous night. I came here last weekend on a whim. I actually thought it was a fun time... but it almost might have helped that i was feeling pretty good before arriving around midnight. The space is not too crowded and there is actual seating. The crowd was a bit questionable but i was with a group of friends so it didn't matter much. Also, good prices for drinks. $5 bud lights. I've been to Iggy's tons of times, and always have a good time, but in reality the bar kind of sucks. There is an obnoxiously small area between the bar and the back wall, the limited 'dance floor' area, and the general dingy decor. The bathrooms are at best, gross, and there is usually below average talent in terms of good looking people. However, they have free karaoke, great happy hour deals ($3 PBR, $4 Jager/Jameson shots until 11PM), and is a stellar spot to ramp up your enthusiasm before going to Dorian's. I visited this bar while I was on vacation and from the outside it looks like any other bar but on the inside it definitely makes you feel at home while also giving that lively feel! My friends and I always have an incredible time whenever we come here. Sure, it can be a bit creepy, but you'll meet all kinds of interesting characters, and the crowd really gets into the karaoke. They have a fairly large open area in the back with a small stage for that business, and while it often takes a LONG time to get called up, you really feel like a rock star once you do. Plus, they have a MASSIVE amount of songs to choose from, and you can check them out online at the Big City Karaoke website before you go. The drink specials are good ($3 PBRs especially), but even without them, the prices are pretty reasonable. Never tried the food, but you're probably not here for that anyway. The music lured us in one night, even though the outside told us to keep walking... That being said, this is not my kind of place. Just personal preferences in certain scenes over others now a days. However, even I could recognize that the fun, affordable Irish bars that had a sense of community that were iconic growing up around in Nyc has been preserved here- and that is impressive in 2nd avenue at this day and age! Karaoke space is spacious and people were enjoying themselves. Yes, like other reviews stated- there are "characters" who drift in and out, it is what is : a Bar bar. And the decor reflects that. Everyone around us was drinking beer, we had vodka cocktails - like I said, someone like me might not be the best one to appreciate this kind of atmosphere- but thats the thing- in the end, we did! The Bartenders here are just great. Attentive, easy going , personable and FUNNY. I feel like if more places had Barmen and Barwomen of this authentic caliber, I would be out drinking more often! I don't like Bar bars, I don't like beer in plastic cups, I don't like heavy drinking or being around those who do....yet, I know I will be back again soon sometime- the staff assured that! Give the DJ the 2-4 dollars to sing a song and then wait forever........ my experience is not based on one solitary trip but multiple trips to this below average karaoke bar. LOVE Iggy's. My friends and I have been there a handful of times now, and every time it ends up being a party. The bartenders are great, the drinks are legit and inexpensive, and it's an all-around great scene. The bar has a perfect set-up for karaoke (room for dancing and cheering on your friends, but still plenty of seating) but if you want to just chill at the bar up front, and not partake in making a fool of yourself singing Celine Dion, you can do that as well! They also play a good mix of music when no one is singing. My friends and I did a fundraiser there for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and we had an amazing experience. Iggy and his staff were accomodating and generous, and we ended up having a very succesful night! They couldn't have been more helpful. No one ever waited long for a drink (the bartenders are speedy!) and Iggy jumped at it anytime we needed something. They also have an ATM in the bar which I always find convenient. They just re-did the interior so the bar has a funky, fun vibe without being pretentious. Hands down one of my favorite bars!!! Aside from the hilarious and outgoing staff, that love to get up on stage and sing, the environment completes the place. From the outside it looks like your typical Irish pub with a great selection for happy hour and draft beers. Then walking down a massive bar which parades all the way to the back to a banging DJ, dance floor, and karaoke stage. The selection of music is endless. Anything from hip-hop, country, pop, show tunes etc. The night begins with grabbing a cold drink from their specialty cocktails, mix drinks and beers followed by taking a shot of fireball to kill the nerves. Then you make your way to the DJ to pick a song from the large selection they have and partying as you wait for your song to come on. As your name is called up and you take your last sit of beer you make your way to the stage. No matter what song or how deep your voice is, your always gonna have a blast! "I had the Time of my Life!" That's what one of my friends said about our evening last night at Iggy's. I almost hate to write this because I sort of want to keep it a secret between myself and the 30 odd friends who I came with last night for the first time. We weren't sure how they would handle our crowd so I was extremely happy that there was just enough space and very efficient service despite the varied requests for drinks and individual tabs from all of us. Fantastic DJ mixing great songs for dancing amidst the Karaoke. My one caution would be to get your Karaoke requests in early because they multiply fast!
