It didn't matter that I've managed an $80 million budget, the prospect of navigating the process for GAP insurance on a totaled car (while trying to move states, etc.) nearly brought me to tears. Called AAA and they tried to send another company tow truck out but I asked for Bates towing as well and their company tow truck came out in less than an hour, hooked it up and agreed they'd take a look at in on 10/19. The tow was on 10/18. We weren't sure when they would be able to get to the vehicle. This morning 10/19 we got a call telling us the starter was shot and a price for replacement. Before noon we got a call the car was done and my son could go out and pick it up. We're a couple hours away. I cannot recommend this business highly enough. From the gentleman who picked the van up to the guy who called this morning, friendly, professional, reasonable and fast. Couldn't ask for a better experience.

The driver was careful with my car, and he was very courteous and personable ... we had a good conversation on a whole range of topics as he took me and my car to a nearby repair shop. Turns out he's the third generation of this family-owned operation started by his grandfather. They have 12 different trucks, so they can handle a lot of different types of jobs. I'm hoping my car holds up and I won't need to use Bates again, but I would definitely recommend them for anyone in the Ashland area who needs a tow.

I didn't realize it, and drove on it just a mile or so before getting to a place I could put air in it. The next morning, I was trying to find a place that could come tow it or put air in so I could drive it to be fixed, since that service was covered by our insurance. I called McCall's, and the call was sent to voicemail. While I was talking with my brother about the tire over the phone, I got a call back from Bill McCall. I returned the call, and he said they could come put air in it. When Jeff arrived less than 15 minutes later, he surprised me by saying HE would take the car to the shop, leave his truck at my house, and then bring my car back when they were finished. I thought that was pretty awesome, but they topped themselves by bringing it back and saying "no charge"!They also turned the tire around, because it had a noticeable mark on the tire from where I drove it flat. I was blown away!! Where on earth do you get that kind of service these days? So glad I went with a local company. They've been in the same spot for so long, they have to be doing things right or the business wouldn't have lasted. I've already told a few people about the experience, and everyone has said they were impressed and would not hesitate to go there for service in the future. THANK YOU, McCall's Auto Service! Smetz's Tire came up and I gave them a call and was informed that early afternoons would be the best time of day for walk ins. That turned out to accurate info, as the work on our vehicle was able to done right away -- Not having to wait was much appreciated, BUT, what really impressed me was that the "reminder" sticker placed on my front window, once the work was completed, indicated the next recommended oil change was listed at a 7500 mile interval. That is the number that our car manufacturer recommends, but my previous quick oil change location had always recommended it be changed at 3500 miles. I raised concerns about that number with employees of that establishment, but was given some B.S. corporate answer -- So if you are looking for GREAT and honest car service, I suggest you check out Smet'z, in Ashland (OH).
