The technique they use is unique compared to other massage places and Sam, my massage therapist could always find where my body has tension and help me release the tight spots right away. He is super professional and he's simply the best! I always feel that my body gets lighter after the massage. I always go to him and my friends who tried other therapists also loved their sessions. They also have excellent service. Whenever I come, they always greet me with a big smile. This place is always sparkling clean and it has a nice herbal smell that makes you feel really calm. They also have sauna and shower available before COVID. Currently they're taking everyone's temperature at the door and has very strong COVID prevention measures in place. Eh, this place is okay. I've had better massages. I bought a groupon and my friend and I called in early to make sure we got an appointment before the groupon expired. They were able to accommodate us both in one room which was great. For $69 each, we got a 75 minute massage, and 30 minutes in the herbal sauna. They have a bathroom with a shower in it for after you come out of the sauna. I do not know if it is the Japanese way to do a massage but they massage you with the sheet over your body. I would have preferred them to use oils and such to massage my body and really get into the muscles, but with the sheet acting as a barrier, it almost felt like a dry rub. I'm glad my body was already motioned from this morning. The 75 minutes lasts a while which is nice but like I said, the massage would have been more productive in my opinion if it was done without a sheet over my entire body. The massage left me feeling good but only for a few hours. The location is inviting and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. They try their best to make you feel comfortable which is nice. My best friend gave me a Groupon for a 1-hour massage at Ido as part of my birthday present this year because she knows I'm a frequent spa-goer (who's had to cut back in the past year because I've been out of work). The day before my appointment, I went on their website to get the original price of the massage so I know how much of a cash tip to give. When I saw the price was $115, I expected a truly high-end spa complete with plush carpeting and heated massage beds. Instead, I was disappointed to find out the spa appeared anything but high-end. The space reminds me of an old dentist's office--the walls were a yellowish-white; the carpet was industrial, gray office carpeting; the chairs in the front reception looked like they belong to an old dining room set; and the beds were NOT heated. In fact, when I complained that the room was cold in the middle of my treatment, the therapist turned on a space heater. I've been to cheap, low-key massage places in Chinatown with better ambiance and furniture than at Ido. With $115 per treatment, I would expect them to invest some of that into interior decorating. Sam was my massage therapist and he was incredible! 5 stars for the massage and 1 star for the space which averages out to 3 stars. If I find out that Sam works at another spa, I would go there instead because I don't plan on returning to Ido. And like one previous said, Ido has notes posted all over (including the bathroom) say they are collecting Yelp reviews for a $20 coupon in exchange, so keep that in mind as you're reading these reviews. read more

I have been going to iDo Holistic for almost a decade now, and they are hands down the best massage I've ever had in my life. Every time I leave feeling refreshed, and as if my body has been fixed from it's various pains and injuries. Sam and Malmi are my go to masseuses, though every massage I've had has been wonderful. This is excellent Shiatsu massage holistic treatment centre. I immediately felt I was back in Japan. Everyone speaks mostly Japanese and everything is so clean like in Japan. I have bad sciatica and after two massage sessions already feel measurably better. The staff really are excellent and you can take a Japanese sauna before. Unlike the one at my sports gym I can stay a whole 20 minutes which makes me dream of the onsen, or hot baths, in Japan. He took my questionnaire and talked to me about my problems in the room. Also he asked me if need more or little pressure when he touched a new parts of my body. He concentrated on my cervical spine because I had problems on this area. So he did a great job. Also I had 15 minutes special service. I chose feet massage. At the end I understood that he pointed out to to my problem zones...I loved it. If we will talk about the place itself. The place is very clean and quite. Music was classic and not too loud. By far the best massage in NYC!!!!! iDo was recommended by my friend and her husband when I was looking for a good massage place in town. When I looked iDo up on Yelp, some of them weren't great, so I wasn't sure if I should go. But iDo offers affordable deals for first timers, so I gave it a try, and I'm so glad I did! Honestly, I don't know why they got some negative reviews on Yelp, but they were from years ago, when iDo was on Groupon. Maybe the ownership has changed or Groupon deal wasn't good? Idk. Anyway, iDo is located somewhere between Grand Central and Rockefeller Center on the 3rd fl. Easy to locate even though there is no clear sign outside. I really wanted to like this place. I LOVE shiatsu massage, and I've found it works great for the problematic soreness and tightness in my neck and shoulders. I don't even mind that it's not a spa atmosphere. I've been to so many spas that the luxury element no longer thrills me. Just give me a clean, quiet room and I'm happy. But! Unfortunately the whole experience was kind of a letdown. I bought a Groupon for an hour massage. When I arrived at the place, I waited over 10 minutes in the reception area. There was not a soul in sight, even as the phone kept ringing off the hook. I was just kind of sitting there, not sure what to do or how long to wait. Finally, a nice woman came out and had me fill out a form and escorted me to my room. My therapist was Issa. He was a nice man, but the massage left a lot to be desired. First of all, I KNOW my muscles are tight, thanks very much. Hearing him exclaim "wow!" over and over again in shock and disbelief at this did NOT make for a relaxing atmosphere. I couldn't relax at all because he kept on talking through the entire hour about how tight my muscles are. Second, What's with using one hand at a time to massage me?? The majority of his massage technique was pressing one (that's right, ONE) finger into my neck to loosen the muscles. Yes, it was a targeted area that needed work, but honestly, it made me feel awfully ripped off. That, combined with the "wows" made me feel like I was simply more trouble than I was worth. This was the worst experience EVER for me. Arrived for my sauna and massage session. the receptionist was not hospitable, the water from the sitting area was OLD. the Sauna was nothing special and not private... being female it would be good if there were some privacy. I went here on a TravelZoo voucher - $65, for a choice of 60-minute massage, 30-minute herbal sauna and shower, and a choice of add-on treatment and herbal sake, regularly $205 (I chose reflexology as my add on treatment). This place is not a spa. It is a Japanese massage center so if you go here you should be aware of that. However, it was an ok experience. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it either. First they had me fill out some paperwork. Then I was shown to the women's locker room in the back. I had to change out of my clothes, they provide lockers with locks/keys. First I used the sauna. I only stayed there for like 15 mins, it was really hot. (Doesn't help that today it hit 90 degrees). I didn't like the fact that there wasn't privacy in the sauna - the door to the sauna opens out to the common hallway everybody walks through to get to the locker rooms, showers and their massage rooms. And it has a glass door. It wasn't frosted or solid so you had to be careful. Then I used the showers because they make you shower after the sauna. They provide shampoo, conditioner and soap. And the showers were clean. Then I was shown to my room for my massage. I requested a female masseuse and I did get one. I had never had an authentic japanese shiatsu massage (which is what I assume I got). Basically they rub you down/push down on you while there is a sheet on top of you. They don't use oil or cream like a swedish or deep tissue massage. All the contact is through the sheet. Which was fine with me. I actually preferred not having greasy oil or lotion rubbed on me knowing that I wouldn't have time to shower afterwards as I had to catch a train. And being in 90+ degree weather while being oily and greasy and sweaty would be really gross and uncomfortable. It was a decent massage, it was relaxing. The reflexology massage was decent as well. They offered me sake afterwards but I turned it down. I had the feeling that in the 90+ degree heat it would make me ill. I found this place via Groupon, and I am so glad that I did! Like another reviewer said, it is a little difficult to find, but what small business in New York isn't? Making an appointment is extremely easy, and they call the night before to confirm. When I walked in, the receptionist was friendly and helpful, giving me a tour of the facility and then instructing me into the herbal sauna, which is small relaxing and cozy. Like S.M. said, the shower is small and fairly clean, but I took her advice and took my own bar of soap, which turned out to be a smart move. They provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, but they don't provide anything to put the body wash on, such as a wash cloth. After the shower, I changed into the comfortable robe they gave me and had my treatment with Mil-Ma, who was fantastic. Definitely a fan of the facial acupressure treatment! I'll be returning even without my Groupon because of their fair prices, comfortable facility, and excellent customer service. And just to be clear, I do not work for either the Center or Groupon. I went there for the first time because I had a discount coupon through TravelZoo local deal. $45 for 1 hour massage and the use of Sauna. Not bad, I thought. (Though later I found out that they had the same deal for $39 for Groupon.) I liked it overall. The facility is clean and peaceful. The decor is simple and tasteful. This is not a Spa. It's a massage center. So don't expect a Spa with a plush bathrobe and fresh flowers and aroma candles. (They give you a Japanese Yukata to wear instead.) The massage was a very authentic Shiatsu massage. That's what I needed and wanted. So I was happy to have it for a half price. I, too, had to wait for weeks to make an appointment. I figured that it's not strange when they gave away so many coupons with deep discounts. Would I go back for a full price? I think that I will but will keep looking out for coupons. They do have a discount for regular customers. So the real price is $80 if we pay in cash. With $20 tip that they recommend, $100 total, which seems like a market price for a real Shiatsu massage by a trained professional masseuse. First things first- i came at 6pm and the place was pretty empty which was great for me and my friend because the locker room can for maybe 4 people comfortably. We were given robes and towels then hopped into the Herbal Sauna. A M A Z I N G. I'd come here for this alone however be weary because it IS co-ed so if you're uncomfortable about sharing a sauna with a man this might not be the place for you. (But we're all adult here aren't we?) My fiend and I both had our massages right after the sauna and I had a gorgeous gal names Ami while she got an awesome guy named Kenji. I opted for the Immune Boost for my special treatment, it helps with digestion and inner organ regularity. All in all the massage was awesome and super professional. I came here with my sister after purchasing a Groupon. This place was brightly lit and looked clean and modern. The locker room area was small. There's only one shower room in this whole place, so basically you needed to wait your turn. The sauna was unisex and it wasn't tucked away at a corner or anything, anyone walking by can see you in there - not that I was laying their naked or anything, but still I like it a bit more private. The massage was done without oil, which was a bit odd to me. This massage was done over a sheet, but I guess it works. The massage was very painful for me. I told my masseuse to lessen the pressure, but it still hurts. I felt her bony hands against my back and felt my organs were going to burst because of the hard pressure she applied on me. However, when she stepped on my back that felt really good. Wished it was like that the entire time I was there, but I sucked up the pain I felt during the massage. Did the Groupon 90 min package plus sauna. First of all, full disclosure I'm not writing for monetary gain here. While they do say that they will give you a discount (I think it's decreased to $10) if you write something, that's not the point of my review. Also, from reading some previous reviews I believe they have implemented some positive changes in response to the feedback, so that is a good sign. Read on... Booking the appt was somewhat of an ordeal. I tried the online system but it didn't look like anything was available for a month so I tried calling instead. They told me I had to book it online, to which I indignantly responded, "you mean you can't tell me your own schedule??" They said they would take my number and call me back later. Fortunately, they did call me back after a day and they had availability the following week. You do have to put a cc number down to hold your spot. I arrived on a lazy Tuesday night and was promptly shown to the locker room and sauna. Everything was clean and pleasant, and the sauna smelled great. The shower was fine although I wish they would provide proper body wash, because the soap completely dried out my skin. At least there is lotion in the locker room. Bring your own products if you are so inclined. My massage was done by Sam, who definitely knew what he was doing and had firm pressure all through the massage. Even though you can tell them to adjust their pressure, I figured pain would be somewhat involved so I did my best to withstand whatever Sam was dishing out. At times it definitely felt like a test in pain tolerance, and at other times it felt great. Definitely not for the squeamish; they do a very thorough massage and cover every single inch of your back and, well, backside. Trust me, it's one of the best parts of the massage, in a totally non-perverted way. (Really! You can stop giggling now) I also got the reflexology foot massage which was really good, again thanks to Sam's magic fingers. This was the only part of the massage that wasn't done over a sheet, since they slather your feet and legs with massage oil. I wish I could have tried the scalp massage too. At the end I went up to pay tip (agreed, it is a little bit tacky that they have this huge printout with suggested tips in the range of $20-$30), and I completely forgot about the "herbal sake" part (evidently so did they). Acting on a Groupon offer, I visited Ido Holistic Center for an hour-long shiatsu massage. My masseuse was a gentleman named Sam. At the beginning of appointment, he asked if there were any areas that should be focused on. My neck and back muscles are coiled tighter than a love-starved boa constrictor around her mate and the deep & penetrating massage did a world of good. I bought a groupon for 30 mins herbal sauna and 60 mins massage. This new location that I am at looks pretty clean. When I arrived at the receptionist area with my friend, it took them a little time to get things in order (it's like they were confused as to what needs to be done). We then finally were shown which way is the locker room. The 30 mins herbal sauna is not really a full half hour sauna, they start counting the 30 mins as soon as they are done showing you where the lockers are. So for the 30 mins, you have to change, do the sauna, and finish showering. For me, that's really just a 20 mins at best. Also, it's not a herbal sauna, just a regular one, I don't smell or see any herb bags inside the sauna room. One thing I don't like about the sauna room is that it's situated in a common area. So while I'm in the sauna naked w/ only a towel on me, there could be men walking by and see everything inside. The shower/bathroom looks spacous and clean. However, it's a combo, which means that when someone is in the shower, bathroom will not be available, or vice versa. Between me and my friend, we have to take turn showering and still get to the massage portion by a certain time, that means shortening one of our sauna time again. Eventhough they provide a shower, there's no shower gel. They do have vo5 shampoo and conditioner sitting on the shower room floor though. There are personal care items in the locker room, but not the essential products that you will need, like lotion. They provide items like q-tips though. The impression I'm getting is that it is not well thought out. Then comes the massage. The room is dim and quiet. Me and my friend were having our massage in the same room. They did ask us before hand to see if we were ok. We were fine with it since I know we don't or make noise during the massage. The bed and head rest is quite hard. My chest and face hurts from laying on my face for too long, and my arms are tingling because it was hanging on the side of the bed for too long. Btw, these massage are not the ones they put oil on you. You actually wear your gown and they also put a layer of bedsheet on you. I did look forward to my massage since I read reviews that said eventhough those Japanese ladies look small, they do put muscle behind the massage. However, the massage that I got was quite lazy, it's more rubbing than massaging. I keep on hearing the noise they made from the bedsheet they put on me, even my friend noticed that and said I didn't get a good massage. All-in-all, it was only ok. Sam gave me the best massage of my life. Every point in my back I ever wanted massaged by my boyfriend was accomplished by Sam. Out of Swedish, Thai and aromatherapy massages, shiatsu is by far my favorite. Some moments were painful but Sam listened well to adjust. Sometimes I just gritted my teeth through it and am so glad I did. Halfway through the massage I felt like I was going to fall asleep despite their being a nimble Asian man kneeing me in the back. First of all these facilities are super clean and comfortable. I was greeted when I entered and quickly shown to the locker room and sauna. Had a relaxing 15 minutes in the Sauna before proceeding to my massage. The massage was amazing!! NaNa was my therapist and knew exactly the amount of pressure to apply and all the right areas. I had a pain in my arm running along my left thumb - she did more than any other massage therapist has ever done. I left feeling very adjusted and ready to conquer my day :) My fiance also came here the following week to see NaNa and she also had a similar experience. I got the Groupon package with the herbal sauna and shower in addition to a 45-minute massage. I knew going in that this place that it would be basic and not a luxury experience. I found the staff friendly and organized, and I enjoyed my massage. However, the shower I was supposed to use after the massage was disgusting. It was dark, and it smelled bad. There was a bug. There were bottles of bargain shampoo, and half-used bars of soap! Yuck! The sauna itself was just a sauna really...only marginally better than what I can use at the gym. It had some herbs in pouches, and smelled okay, and it was clean...but I wasn't going to sauna without showering, and I decided I would much prefer to just shower at home. I used a $65 Groupon (1 hour massage, 30 minute sauna, 15 minute service of choice (I chose a foot rub) and an herbal Saki to top it off. While the non-massage related services were nice, I appreciated the massage the most. For those interested in the experience, I will detail it for you. Otherwise, skip to the last paragraph for the summary. You are first greeted by a host and asked to remove your shoes before you go back to the changing room. A key, towel and robe are provided, You are asked to wear the towel for the sauna, then shower and put the robe on for your massage. The changing room is small but clean, and complete with Aqua Net and Aloe Vera Gel :) The Herbal Sauna is also clean and at a comfortably hot temperature, lined with towels on the seating and floor areas. I was lucky to have it to myself. Hung on the walls were several bags of dried herbs (Cinnamon, Ginger, Tangerine, Mint, and Japanese Root), each herb designed to stimulate or heal or do something for you. I could vaguely smell them, but it was nice to have around for the journey. After a half hour, I went to the shower and used some of the not-very-luxe products (I'm spoiled by other spas that use fancy brands and sell it in the reception area), and I put my freshly-pressed and well fitted robe on before the massage. I was lead into my calmly lit massage room and asked to lay face down with the sheet over my body. The table was kind of Japanese (I think). Not the normally high massage table, this one was wider and lower to the ground, and had a shower rod suspended above from wall-to-wall. I'm glad my masseuse didn't have to use it...I'm not a fan of that. The table was leather or pleather, but had a towel to lay on top of if you weren't comfortable (I believe one unhappy reviewer was horrified with leather...I don't see a problem with it). The massage style was Shiatsu (meaning f"inger pressure"). The strokes were shorter and deeper than a sweeping Swedish massage. I have lower back pain, so this was a perfect balance of stretching and massage. My therapist, AKI, was fantastic. It didn't feel like a routine massage where you can sense an egg-timer going off in the masseuse's mind reminding them how long to spend on each body part. I had a concentrated session on lower back and legs, which is exactly what I needed. Also, my massage was without oil, which was a nice change. The entire massage was done above the sheet, with the exception of the 15-minute foot massage, which featured a cream rubbed directly on my feet. After the massage, I changed and went up to the reception area where I was offered tea and herbal saki. Though not a Saki enthusiast, I really enjoyed this one. Very strong and very potent! I tipped well as they deserved it for the effort and the experience, though I was presented with a "proper" tip menu for Groupon or discounted customers. They also encouraged using Yelp to write a review for a future discount, though they didn't specify that it be a good review. I would have written this review otherwise. Overall, Aki (the masseuse) gave a damn good massage and Ido Holistic Center did a great job accommodating my Groupon. I only had to wait 7 days for the appointment. I saw a Groupon deal for this place $39 for a 50 minute massage of my choice (shiatsu, Swedish, or deep-tissue-- as per their site, the regular price is $105) and jumped on it. You can book online through Groupon and at first when I tried to schedule my appointment, I saw that the earliest one would be in early December (I bought the Groupon in mid September). But, I checked the booking system again a few times and then suddenly there were lots more openings much earlier than December. So, anyone that bought this deal I advise you to just keep checking periodically. The center asks that you come in 15 minutes prior to the appointment but they were understanding and nice about it when I arrived just on time (Held up in another part of Midtown -.- ). Upon first impression, I have to say the place is simplistic, clean, inviting, and modern. I was led to my personal massage room. The decor really is as people say-- simple and tasteful. They give you a thin blanket sheet that you put on top of yourself after you've removed your clothes. The masseuse came in promptly and she was friendly and willing to accommodate my needs in terms of massage pressure but I ended up not needing to adjust this. She was firm where she needed to be. Sure, there were moments where my muscles hurt a lot more than others but overall it was very much needed and relaxing in the end. I'm very happy with my first experience and I think I will definitely consider coming back.. even better if I can find similar deals to the one I got! read more

I love holistic places. This is the second one I have been to. magnificent is all I can say about this place and my therapist. Everyone is very respectful. I would recommend this to everyone. NaNa was my therapist. I showed her my knot areas and she did a great job concentrating on them. I actually think my back was so tight I could've used more than an hour. An athlete, I have to get massages often. I can be quite demanding about them and unforgiving if I don't get what I want. I had had extraordinary massages and terrible stressful ones. I always leave a yelp review, to help others. This was one of the great ones. I admit: making the appointment was complicated for me. I don't like doing online appointments - it takes forever because, so often, the day you want is not available. However.. The space is lovely, clean and well lit. My massage therapist was Megumi. She was friendly and she listened when I told her what I needed and THEN she DID it!! How often have I told massage therapists not to touch my legs, only to have them do it? Every time. Today, Megumi listened, as I told her about the tension in my neck, traps, back, lower back and left glute. Those are the exact areas she worked on. I told her I prefer deep tissue - the harder, the better. She did it. She did EVERYTHING to PERFECTION. I am definitely going back! Ask for Megumi. PS I read a review where someone said they wanted to do backflips on Madison Avenue. I actually DID dance after I left. I had on my Ipod and I danced on the street, on the subway platform, on the train and when I reached my destination. I have had many, many massages in my lifetime - some bad, some good, very few great. My massage at Ido Holistic Center was (as the Yelp 5-star rating denotes) "as good as it gets". I asked for deep pressure and, not only did I get it - but my massage therapist (Aki) hit all of the "deep and shallow" notes (muscles, tendons, what-have-you) with rare sensitivity and finesse. I did the Groupon thing, and could never afford to visit Ido Holistic Center regularly (not even monthly) - but, boy, if I could, I would be here weekly!!! read more

iDo is clean and spacious! Making an appointment was a breeze. Although largely ignored for the first 10+ minutes of my arrival, I finished my paperwork, was led down a hallway into a dimly lit but quiet room and ready to go by 7:10p. Glad I didn't hold that against them as my massage & therapist was wonderful. Tomo was professional and continuously asked for my input on needs/pains and pressure. I found it funny that she kept stressing how tightly wound my muscles were. Did appreciate her explanation of the differences between shiatsu, swedish and deep tissue & why shiatsu was best suited for me. With her medium pressure and hands, she was able to lull me into a relaxing sleep. There was a towel over the parts she worked on, and a thin blanket over my body. When I started to feel cold, she turned on the heater for me. The first 40 minutes focused on my neck/back/shoulders while the last 10 were focused on the hands/feet/lets. Definitely appreciated the attention and her whole demeanor. Enjoyed the atmosphere and massage. Even received a coupon for my next visit that I'll definitely be using! read more

I get massages all the time and have been looking for years for someone who actually knows what they're doing. Too many massages are performed by people who clearly don't understand anatomy and have no technique. I initially went in for a Groupon and had the best massage I've had in New York from Issa. He put some major pressure on when I said I could handle deep Shiatsu, and let me tell you, it hurts like &(*)&, and I felt deep soreness in my muscles for a couple of days. BUT, it was totally worth it. My shoulders felt like they dropped from their usual position (practically up to my ears) down to where they're supposed to be for a couple of weeks after. It was a phenomenal therapeutic massage. Ido isn't really a scented candles and pampering sort of place, and it's spartan and better suited for people who want a deep massage to cure specific muscular ailments. But I highly recommend for those who are looking for a deep, effective massage. read more

Came back a second time with a livingsocial voucher. This time the process to make appointment was a little annoying. Right after me and my fiance purchased the voucher, i called to make an appointment but the woman told me to make the appointment through their website. I tried that but it was not working then i called back, the woman tried guiding me to making the appointment online but it didn't work too so she made the appointment through the phone eventually. On the day of the massage we arrived about 30 minutes before our appointment. Presented our voucher picked our treatment and we went in early. I had Ami massaging me. She did a wonderful job. I told her initially i had lower back problems and she focused a lot on the issue. At the end my back felt a lot better and more loose. Overall this is a great place. I often do not go to massage centers. Going to iDo Center was the first time for me. I came here through Groupon. What I can tell you is that... my massage was not relaxing or soothing. However, it was VERY therapeutical. My therapist Issa was phenomenal. I didn't take the form that was handed out prior to the massage seriously. However, Issa was able to pinpoint all the problems my body was facing lately (without me having to mention it) .. headaches, low/ high blood pressure and muscle limitations. After a grueling hour of major pressure on my arms and shoulder points... I feel good as new. True, one will feel some soreness right after to the next day, especially from having your muscles unknotted. On the third, you'll feel loose and have a better blood circulation on the muscles that were worked on. I exercise a lot and do heavy sport activities. After my visit there, I can say it was definitely worth it- if you can bear it. I can move my shoulder and back muscles much more freely now. Point blank: If you want a therapist who knows their anatomy and will put effort in helping you, this is it! I will be booking another appointment sometime soon! read more

I found Ido on Travelzoo as part of a deal and bought a half an hour in their herbal spa, an hour of shiatsu (which I had never tried) and a 15-minute special treatment (I opted for reflexology). It was more than worth it and I've already recommended it to a number of friends. The staff is respectful, the offices clean and quiet. There are a number of comments calling out noise level in the hallways as a downer, but two minutes into the massage and I probably could have cared less if there was a fire in the room and most of the noise was from guests. At the start of my massage I was asked if there were any issues I'd like to call out and I informed the practitioner I've suffered from sciatica for a couple of years and I'm not sure what exactly she did, but I felt noticeably better immediately afterward and am still feeling the benefits of the massage (it's been two days). I'd say the biggest draw backs are that there is only one shower (not a deal breaker by any means) and the reflexology (foot work) paled in comparison to some I've received in Chinatown. The biggest perk was the way I felt when I left. I've had plenty of deep tissue and Swedish massages and always left feeling a bit dazed and was sore the next day. With shiatsu I felt very relaxed and almost like I was floating down the street (mind you this was in midtown near Rockefeller - imagine that!) and, a great bonus, I never got sore from the massage. All in all, I liked it, I'll be going back and I'll be recommending it to more friends! read more

I came to Ido because I bought an online deal. Deal was great but the experience was completely miserable. First off, they didn't actually book my appointment when I called. Thankfully for me, I rescheduled so was spared the annoyance of showing up to no appointment. It took several phone calls to sort out the unscheduled appointment issue before I was allowed to schedule another appointment. The massage however, was heavenly. Everything hurt when the massage was over, but the next day my body felt so much better. Definitely one of the better massages I've had in NYC. read more

If you want a real good deep massage, this place is not for you. If you want a touch massage, then it's perfect for you. I asked my massage therapist twice to go stronger or harder, no luck. I had to go home and ask my boyfriend to give me some shoulder rubs... I love massage and likes my massage more therapeutic then just soft motions, and has being a fan of shiatsu and deep tissue massage. I went here with my cousin from a groupon deal that she got online. To be upfront, it is my first time going to a Japanese massaging place so I don't have other experiences/places to compare it to. The ladies were very nice, polite and courteous, and my masseuse always asked me if the pressure was okay. But for me, my head massage ( a different lady) could have been better if she were more attentive to all my hair in my face, and for my cousin, her facial massage could have been better too. So I visited here on a groupon and it was ok. I'm definitely glad I didn't pay full price, but not bad for a girls day out. First of all the place is absolutely beautiful and extremely clean, which is a plus for me. We started by removing our shoes and changing in the locker room. Next they sent us to the sauna which was EXTREMELY hot and uncomfortable. They did lower it for us, when we asked. For the massage it was really nice but they didn't use any oils which was a little awkward. It was for 75 minutes which was Great, but the no oils took some getting used to. When it was over, they kind of bullied me for a tip, which a major turn off, but hey to each his own. In all, I've had better massages and I doubt I'll be rushing back to get here, BUT if you must, definitely get the groupon. read more

I also went to Ido through Groupon. It is a good barebones operation, which is what I like. I"m the kind just wants the massage, I don't all the bells -and-whistles. Since this is Japanese-owned, I was not surprised by politeness I received when I walked in. It's a small place, so there were some issues with the locker room and sauna. There were 2 other women in there ahead of me and there aren't seperate mens/womens locker room and sauna. The massage itself was good. Mal-mi listened to my concerns (shoulder, calves) and went right to work. I wanted strong pressure and she delivered. Ido will definitely be on my list for a return visit. read more
