I've gone to Judee for a few alterations now...the most recent was my bridal gown. Judee did…read morephenomenal work on my gown and I could not have been happier - she's a true artist with a sewing needle!!! The bridal shop or designer had sized it incorrectly or the gown was marked wrong and it needed to be let out a little. The trick was the extensive hand beading and intricate detail work throughout the entire bodice. It also had a chapel train made of tulle and I wasn't thrilled with doing a bustle. Judee suggested cutting the train off and making the entire gown one length and that's what we did. I got so many compliments on my gown - how well it fit, how beautiful it is and also everyone actually loved that I didn't have a train - bustling it would not have enhanced the gown in any way and actually would have have detracted from it. I wish I could show how much work Judee needed to do to remove the train and make the gown all one length as well as hemming it to the proper length. This gown must have had a dozen layers! I've included a close up of the gown and then a full length of it on me (p.s. the hem doesn't look even in the photo but that was either the way I was standing or it came up - it was even). I've also been to Judee to have a bridesmaid gown altered as well as many cocktail dresses. She does fabulous work on everything and is so great to work with! Judee is so friendly, easy going and accomodating! I'm not tall, have a short waist and fairly large bust/shoulders so I pretty much have needed alterations my entire life. Judee is by far one of the best I've been to and she is also very reasonably priced for the magic she does. I'm sure if I had had the alterations done at the bridal shop, it would have cost a LOT more!

Anita was our instructor. She gives very explicit instructions and I had success fairly quickly with my small creations. I learn by following instructions. My husband's experience was not good. He had success, but Anita told him several times that he didn't listen and he wasn't following instructions (in a rather harsh tone of voice. I think she calls it as she sees it without sugar coating her instructions). My husband learns by making mistakes and figuring out what works. He wasn't given the freedom to do that in these 45 min working sessions. So, overall my experience was OK. His experience was not good. So, I cannot recommend Desert Dragon, based on our personal experiences. But I found it was a good intro to pottery and the wheel.

During…read morea recent hospital stay, we lost her most beloved stuffed animal -- a bunny with her name embroidered on the ear. Despite weeks of calls to the hospital, it was gone. Edie cried about it every day. My wife tracked down the same bunny online, but it had been discontinued and the personalized embroidery was no longer available. We bought a plain one and brought it to Twisted Stitches, hoping they could recreate the name. The staff treated it like it mattered as much to them as it did to us. They helped me match the font and thread color to the original, and even carefully removed existing stitching from the ear so the embroidery could be placed perfectly. When I picked it up, it was flawless -- indistinguishable from the bunny we lost. When I asked what I owed, Mel, the owner, refused payment. She didn't ask for anything in return. She simply said she was hoping for the best for our daughter and was happy to help. Edie has slept with her bunny every night since. To Mel and the team at Twisted Stitches: your skill gave us a perfect replica, but your kindness gave a little girl her best friend back. We can't recommend this business enough.

She then walked us through step by step on the process of how to form the rings, and how to shape and round them, and not weld but the other word that I can't think of. I think that had to be my favorite part, the torches were fun to turn on and use. In the end we polished them up, and smoothed out the inside of the rings so there isnt anything that rubs against your finger. All in all, a time was had, she did mention a pendant class soon, and my girlfriend and I can't wait to come back and make more stuff!

I was helping my friend find a gown. She had the extra challenge of being a second time and a bit older than the average bride. To top it off she had experienced one hell of a ride with some unethical antics from an out of state shop and then more from a local seamstress. She was having her hair done at Rumors and, what could only be portrayed in a Hallmark movie, looked out the window and realized a bridal shop was located in the same shopping center. She and her hairdresser went to the shop while her hair was in foils and knocked on the door. The shop owner was miraculously inside and brought her in and patiently listened to the whole story. An appointment was made for the following afternoon. My friend was shocked at how many dresses she was able to choose from and the owner came in for the ultimate save, remembering a dress she had from a discontinued line. It was as if the dress had been waiting for this bride. Everyone was conscientious about the budget and everything fell into place with a fair price for the gown and expedited tailoring. Alterations were made by the talented Viola (funny enough my friend and Viola had both lived in New Jersey, AND the same small polish town Viola is from is the exact same town my friend's great grandmother was from before she came to the US many years ago). We had the perfect dress in hand 2 days before the wedding! I do not recommend this experience but I will recommend this shop, always. Your destiny awaits!

I attended a scrap retreat in Payson Pines with Kim Reynak and a group of scrappers. I've been…read morecoming to Kim's scrap retreats for six years. She recently purchased a home in Payson, AZ as a scrap retreat house. We spent seven days in a beautiful environment with plenty of room to create our scrap projects. Kim makes all of our meals. She cooks a variety of food and everything is delicious. Accommodations are perfect. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are large. The house has five bedrooms and four baths. Kim provides all sheets and towels. The scrap space is large enough to spread out. Kim provides eight foot tables. She provides make & takes daily. She comes up with fun little games with prizes. Each night around dinner time we were treated to majestic Elk that came up behind the deck.
