Light + Bark is such a cute addition to Old Town, and I especially love their commitment to supporting rescue dogs! We were in town for my brother's ASU graduation, which happened to fall on Mother's Day weekend. I was searching for Mother's Day activities that didn't involve food (so much of the graduation festivities were ALL about food), and I came across Light + Bark. I decided to book a candle pouring reservation for our group of seven, and was grateful they still had availability on such a busy weekend. I've done candle pouring before, and it's been more of a private experience, where we had the space to ourselves. Light + Bark has a bit different of a layout ... the candle pouring takes place right in the middle of the shop, and felt a bit crowded at times for a larger group like ours. Even still, the instructors made us feel welcome, and encouraged us as we selected our scents! They even had free mimosas for Mother's Day, which was such a thoughtful touch to make moms feel special. The scent selection is expansive, and we especially loved the desert-themed collection. We felt the pricing was fair for the experience as well ... it's $38 for a small vessel, $48 for a medium vessel, and $58 for a large vessel. We ended up getting really into the scent mixing process, and had a great time smelling everyone's final products! The candles take two hours to set, and then you can pick them up at your convenience during regular shop hours. I'd definitely recommend this experience to anyone looking for a unique way to celebrate, and you could absolutely pair your experience with brunch reservations elsewhere in Old Town. read more

What an amazing event! We came on a weekend for an early girls get together. If you're looking for an activity to do with your girlfriends or daughters this is the one! There is plenty of time to socialize and you get to leave with non toxic amazing product of your own creation. The staff here is super helpful and welcoming and they can help you with scent profiles if you aren't sure what to combine. If you're looking for your next girls get together come check them out and you can make candles too! They are worth every penny, and I can't wait to go back for my next event. My sisters planned a candle making activity for my birthday. We had a party of 5 for a Saturday afternoon. When we arrived, everything was already set up for us. There was even a little "Happy Birthday" sign on the table. We were given the instructions on how to pick a vessel/candle jar + lid and then the oils that would create the scent of our candle. The vessels/candle jars were really pretty and there was a good variety of sizes, shapes, textures, and prices. It was really fun to go through the huge variety of options. It's definitely trial and error. It takes some tinkering to figure out how to get the idea you have to actually smell like that in the end. The staff helped us figure things out when we were stuck or wanting to scrap our creations and start over. Once the scent is done, they bring you the hot wax to pour in and mix. We were also taught proper wick trimming tricks and candle care. The candles have to sit for at least two hours so if you want to pick up same day, you'll need to come earlier and then hang around the area. The shop is tucked behind Hula's Modern Tiki in Old Town Scottsdale so there is no shortage of things to do to keep busy until your candle is done. You can also pick them up within a week. If you don't pick them up, the staff said they get "repurposed". If you are someone sensitive to smells, this might not be the activity for you but if you aren't, it was a very creative and fun thing to do with a group. read more

The ladies that helped us out were great, just need to warn people it takes 2 hours for the candle to harden before you can take it home. Nestled in a strip of Old Town Scottsdale, this little shop played host to a client event we held before Christmas. We were allowed to bring in pizza and wine for a complete experience. The staff were so friendly & helpful. I can't wait to see how my candle turned out. You select the candle base and lid, then select your scents. The hard part for me was narrowing it down. I have my next 3 candles designed in my head (15% refills!!). Once you complete your scent blending, they provide you with the wax to add. Staff is there with step by step directions, making it completely stress free. Once you are finished with your candle, it needs 2 hours to set up. Due to the time, we had to return for ours. If you go early enough in the day, you could go grab lunch nearby. All in all this was a great choice for our event. Can't wait to take my beau back with me to create another. read more

Candle making is my new favorite activity to do with friends! My partner and I celebrated our anniversary here and made candles for each other. We reserved a time slot on their website, and the rest was a breeze. We chose our candle container, and the staff walked us through the process of choosing and combining scents to add to our candles. All of the oils were clearly labeled and organized by scent profile, and there were small pre-made candles out for us to preview each scent in candle form! My partner and I ended up combining SEVERAL different essential oils like a creative chemistry experiment and had so much fun while we were at it. The staff checked in with us regularly, offered tips and suggestions for scent profiles we were searching for, and overall maintained such a positive vibe. After finishing our candles, we perused their store and I also bought two glass wine tumblers with dogs illustrated on them. They also sell pre-made and mystery candles, which are also so fun and fragrant! Our candles required about 2 hours to set, then we came back to the store to pick them up on the same day. Both candles smelled amazing and we couldn't have been happier with how they turned out! We had such a great time here and are already planning to come back with more people. My girlfriends and I were in Scottsdale for a bachelorette trip and our visit to Light + Bark Candle Co. was one of our highlights! We made a reservation online for our group of 11 and had the whole store to ourselves during our session. The two staff members who helped us (I apologize for forgetting their names) were so sweet, patient, and accommodating! I have attended several other candle-making experiences but this store provided one of the best based on their easy process, quality materials, and wide variety of unique scents. Everything was very organized and fairly priced. Once we arrived and were seated, the staff walked us through the steps and we were set loose to pick our candle jars and oils. I appreciated that we were not limited to the number of fragrances we were allowed to choose (I ended up with five!). We were also given cards to write them down for future reference. The overall activity took about 1.5 hours. We returned the following day to pick up the candles once they had cured and each one was packaged in a cute gift bag. Everyone loved their results! They all smelled like elegant, expensive products you would find in a high-end boutique! It has now been a couple of months since our trip but I have yet to burn my candle for fear of using it up. I leave it on my vanity to enjoy the aroma and it is still as fragrant as when we first received them! Light + Bark is such a great experience and a unique place to host an event! I found it browsing on places to host my birthday celebration. I had done a similar concept before but never heard of this particular place but so glad I found it! Communication with Tiffany about booking a private event was quick and simple, she made the process run smoothly. They allow you to bring snacks and drinks to your event which is a great touch to better host my friends. On the day of, they were super welcoming! They let us setup a little earlier so we could be ready for our time slot and had all the tables and supplies ready for us by the time we got there. We mingled for a bit while everyone arrived and settled in and then they went into what the process was and let us do our thing! There was a variety of scents, from earthy to floral to fall and you get to pick as many scents as your heart desires. What's great is that they let you do everything yourself but were super helpful when someone was stuck and were there the entire process for whatever we needed. OMG this place was so much fun. First off, the store front is absolutely beautiful and inviting. When you walk in, all of the beautiful fragrances welcome you. I immediately felt happy when I walked in. The owner, Jenni, is such a beautiful soul. She and ugh I knew I was going to forger her sidekick whose name begins with an M were super friendly, fun and down to earth. We walked in, no appointment needed. They happily explained the candle making process. We were never rushed and were told to take our time as a they wanted to ensure we will love the candles we make. There are plenty of candies and choices to choose from to fit your style and mood. I went with more the fruity/sweet fragrances. You can even name your candles. Candles range in price according to size and then you select your fragrances. You can choose one or several. I opted to purchase 2 candles since I chose 7 fragrances lol. After you make your candle, they require 2 hours to set before you can take them home. What makes this expedience even better is knowing that you are helping a cause. They donate a portion of their proceeds for animal care and rescue. They even hold per painting classes. This is perfect for a day night, ladies night, bachelorette party, recently divorced party.. just about anything you can think of. I don't even know where to begin to express how amazing this little shop is. Originally, a friend wanted to go to a competitor in Scottsdale quarter, I started researching candle making places in Scottsdale and after learning they support rescue dogs, I was sold. The shop is impeccably curated. I walked in on my own and they made room for me to make a candle, even though they had reservations at both of their main tables. The scents are organized by categories and color coded, it's a straightforward and enjoyable, yet creative process. Mixing scents was experimental and fun and all of the staff were knowledgeable, kind and kept the place running (cleaning, explaining how the process works, cashing people out, consulting on scent suggestions etc.) They even ship candles you make back to you if you live out of town. If you opt in, they'll also catalogue your scents for you for future reference. Highly recommend - they take bachelorette parties and large groups, they also do candle parties after hours and have a BYOB license for that. I was incredibly impressed with their reasonable prices, approachable and friendly demeanor, and overall curation and aesthetic of the space. This is a must when in old town! read more

Okay. I really wanted to give this place a stellar review but they definitely let me down after the actual candle making. A group of us came to town, walked in they were great; set us up a table went through the candle making process with us it was a great time. We made labels stickers, they advised us to leave them with the candle and they will put them on since the candle was still hot and settling. They went over the shipment process with us and let us know the candle does need to sit for a little before burning they let us know shipping would be in a few days so we left excited had a great time. Insert disappointment:They did not ship our candles for two weeks no communication then when they did ship the candles, they left one out and no stickers. Mind you I know they had the sticker because they posted it on their social media. We reached out to them and let them know that one of the candles was missing in the shipment and all they said is they forgot it. I understand there can be hiccups in the process, but they really should be clear about their actual shipping time and be a little bit more organized, I don't know what happened to the sticker that I made. I never got it and I'm hoping that we get the candle sometime within this month. The cost of the candles and paying for shipment I expect more. This was not a cheap outing. Can definitely use improvement; don't sale people on a seamless process if that's not the actual case. read more

They've done two company events for my office, both times bringing in jars, a selection of scents, and all the supplies needed to host our very own in house candle making. What a fun experience! Made a reservation online a few days ahead of time for the candle bar. When we arrived we were immediately greeted and prepped for our candle-making experience. The options for marking your own customizable scent are endless. The Jenni, the owner, and her staff were very accommodating, helpful and fun. They were a delight and helped make the experience so enjoyable. While mixing the scent, we were able to get their thoughts and opinions. I couldn't have asked for better experience! The whole process took about 45 minutes to complete and then we were able to walk around Old Town Scottsdale during the 2-hour cooling time. When going back to pick up our creations, we were immediately greeted delightfully again and each of our candles was neatly in a bag with tissue paper. I would definitely recommend a trip here. While we visited as an activity for friend who was visiting from out of town, we'll definitely be back to make more candles on our own and when we have more visitors.
