Our Government Is Teetering On Insanity & Ridiculousness…read more SITREP Is the Experiment in Free Market Democracy failing? After watching the 2nd Presidential Debate last night between Obama & Romney - and neither candidate sounding like they have significant workable solutions - I don't know If there IS any "HOPE" left... SET-UP So seriously, "Is the Experiment in Free Market Democracy failing?" It's not so much a judgment as it actually IS a question. And in this country, the "free market" is very much intertwined with our brand of "democracy." But just what KIND of democracy are we? We are not a strict democracy in the sense that the Athenians were. But then again, the Athenians were slave-owners the whole time that Athens reigned supreme. We gave up slavery about 150 years ago. Does that count? Does that make our Democracy better than the Athenians? Actually we are a "republican" form of democracy, meaning that we elect representatives who in turn legislate the law of both our states and federal government. We are closer in this respect to the Roman Republic, who enjoyed a republican form of democracy for over 500 years. So the U.S. is not even the OLDEST democracy that the world has seen. And yet, after that time, Rome still DEVOLVED into an empire, becoming no different in the end than the Egyptian, Persian, African empires that it was surrounded by and defeated. The brits after their nobles forced the "Magna Carta" upon King John in the 13th Century began to develop a "parliament" that soon took upon itself the power of government and ruling the people. So much to the point that under Prime Minister Oliver Cromwell they executed King James. But yet, they to this day, they still have a King or a Queen even though they have a Parliament. In the 1700s, we didn't find this to OUR colonial satisfaction, so we decided to stage a revolution and separate ourselves. Interestingly enough, Canada (just next door to us) and Australia (even FURTHER away from England) decided to remain with the crown. I honestly think the jury's out as to whether those were bad decisions or not. Anyways, isn't having a government that's beholden to a Military-Industrial Complex and Wall Street Barons that can tank our economy and not be held accountable just another form of Monarchy? THE LOWDOWN So I've expressed some thumbnail ramblings on democracy and the U.S. and what it's all about. I just hope people don't cloud their intelligence with patriotic drivel and bumper sticker slogans. If history has been any kind of teacher, and circumstances become tyranical, it's that there's always a place for more revolution.... whether from the inside....or the outside if necessary... [The Yelp survey at the end of the review section is asking if "U.S. Government" accepts credit cards. Of COURSE it does....and GLADLY, especially by the banks whose CEOs made obscene profits off us taxpayers. God "Bless" America!] ;^D
