I'm confused by this place. It is an upscale Asian fusion tapas spot. Interesting concept, but the tiny portions for steep prices and long waits for rather average food was not for me. Miso soup was pretty standard. The french onion soup dumplings were interesting but I would not have them again. I thought the tuna carpaccio was very good, fresh, and flavorful. The chicken jalapeño dumplings were alright. I would not go there expecting a filling meal. Service was friendly but slow and halted. We had a couple servers and they kind of were both taking orders and it got confusing. It was not a particularly busy day - we were one of three customers groups and the others were at the bar, and not ordering much from the kitchen. read more

I love tapas as much as the next person. It's a great opportunity to try a few "small plates" instead of ordering an entire meal. I came here on a Tuesday night with a large group of 12. We were split evenly into 2 different tables on the outdoor patio in the back. People at my table each ordered 2-3 different tapas. There was A LOT of time between when each tapa came out. Up to 45 minutes! Some tapas didn't even come out at all. I'm not sure he's the situation was at the other table, but I overheard the same thing, that some people didn't get anything they ordered...and at this moment, over an hour had gone by. Our waiter kept blaming "the computer system" and saying "I don't know." He wasn't very apologetic or anything. He would just repeat that it was a computer error. When it was time for the bill, both tables bills were wrong and it had to be fixed multiple times. Even when we were ready to pay. It was all ready, and they wanted to fix the bill again. It was ridiculous and uncalled for. Service was absolutely terrible. On to the food... I ordered a cucumber salad. Menu stated it had cucumbers, avocado and onion. When it came out it didn't have onion, but had feta cheese. I am not a fan of feta at all. I didn't bother sending it back, as it already took nearly 45 minutes for a salad. After navigating around the feta, the salad had decent flavor. I also ordered salmon capriccio. It was light and tasty. It took a while to come out, and it's not even something that has to be cooked. Ichiz has been around now for over a decade and they never disappoint. The food is phenomenal. And Ichiz and Tata are wonderful. There's not a single dish I've ever had an issue with. It's a wonderful Huntington staple with excellent food and cocktails. I've seen some of the negative reviews on here and they all seem to focus on the service based on a single person who worked there. If that is preventing you from going to Ichiz, that person no longer works there. You will not have to worry about that part of the experience anymore. Definitely give Ichiz a try. What a delightful surprise! I cannot believe this place has been here for like 8 years and I've never tried them before. Shame on me! Met up with a friend for a girls dinner out a few weeks ago, and had a wonderful time. It was a Friday night and the place was pretty quiet, so there were no concerns about social distancing. The bartender and waiters were all wearing masks and were super friendly as well. Onto the menu. Prepare yourself for a ton of dumpling options, like half the menu is devoted to the delicacy. And each dumpling is unusual and creative with the most delicious combinations. Being an Asian fusion place, the options run the gamut, from hot pots, to steamed buns and of course, back to dumplings. We tried the French Onion dumplings since they are the most talked about and they were delicious! Served on a plate that usually would hold escargot, I think. We also tried a few others, but the winning dumpling was filled with sweet potato, bacon, and cheese, as recommended by the waiter (I always ask what they like). I don't recall the name but it was one of the best and most interesting combinations in a dumpling that I've ever had. Coming from the high end restaurant industry in Manhattan and Long Island this place can meet the standard for food but NOT at all for service. I work near Ichiz and It was my first time going there. My fiancé & I wanted food to go but I was told by the staff member Kevin to wait 45 to 50 minutes.... the restaurant looked pretty empty I only saw 2 tables seated so do not consider ordering take out on a Wednesday night. We decided to seat at the bar and order food. It tasted ok. I wanted to give it more stars to this place because of the food but it doesn't deserve it because of the service and rude attitude by the person welcoming you. What a disappointment. We came with 7 people and each person got 1 order of dumplings and we got a couple appetizers. 3 ladies got 2 gin and tonics ($15 per drink = $90 in alcohol) and 2 ladies got 2 glasses of WHITE wine ($15.50 per drink = $62 in wine). Great food TERRIBLE service! To start we ordered a bottle of Sake. The bartender thought it would be a good idea to open the bottle and pour it into a jar. So we had no idea what we were drinking. They claimed "that's how we do it" Well guess what, you're doing it WRONG. There was only two tables in the entire place and our food took over 25 minutes to arrive (meanwhile we could here the staff laughing and having a good time) None of the food arrived at the same time. We ordered another drink but I guess the bartender decided to take a break during their only rush. Our second order of food came out before the drinks. To cap it all off we were then given a check but with no pen to sign it. Like I mentioned at the beginning of this review, the dumplings were wonderful but the staff requires some serious training. I must admit from the first time I heard of Ichiz I was a bit confused - how do you pronounce that name? Itches? Since it's tapas, does the Z get the Spanish Castilian treatment with a th sound at the end? Is it a fancy spelling of ICEHOUSE? Regardless of how you say it, we arrive to a sleek looking space that has a bit of Asian fusion feel to it, but higher end decor and distinctive design elements. We take notice of the vast selection of high end bottles behind the beautiful bar - the one misstep in the space is having a tv with a football game playing. We are handed their large menus, physically large since they are two feet long and narrow, but also large due to the broad number of tapas dishes available. It was a bit disconcerting to see some items crossed out by hand and hand written additions, which does not fit into the concept of a high end tapas restaurant. It also made me ask myself - can all these items be made well? I order the one cold draft sake on the menu and my wife gets a Malbec. She liked my sake very much so we decide to reorder a large later in the meal to share. This was was a good choice. For our dishes we try the orange crush (?) sushi roll, the French Onion soup dumplings (that so many reviews rave about), a half dozen blue point oysters and a tuna avocado salad. First out is the sushi roll, and I'm a disappointed by seeing pink dyed gari presented with the roll since I usually associate it with lower end sushi establishments that use the food dyed version to make it more appealing. The sushi roll itself is tasty, but nothing remarkable beyond what can be found in most sushi places. Next comes the french onion soup dumplings which we both enjoyed, but at $14 for 6 they certainly are pricey for dumplings. The Blue Point oysters were fresh and very good served with a cocktail sauce and lemon. The Tuna Avocado salad is served in a half avocado shell it has chunks of tuna, and avocado with tasty spicy mayo dressing. For dessert we get combo A for the evening - creme bruele, vanilla ice cream and chocolate cake all were good renditions - the whip cream served with this is the reddi-whip variety with a drizzle of Hershey's syrup :( sad. Along with my initial confusion regarding the name, my experience as a whole was also confusing, with so many menu items, puzzling choice of presentations and use of ingredients that make you wonder if the prices they charge for the high end experience are worth it? Since there are so many overlapping and similar plates I would prefer to see the chef slim down the menu to focus on fewer, higher quality items that could change often to give you a better sense that you are always getting the freshest and the best of what is currently available in the market. read more

First off, I'd probably give this place 4.5 stars if I could! Ambiance and wait staff: we went to Huntington on a Saturday night with the thought of going to MB Ramen, but when the wait was 2 hours long, we needed another plan! We walked by ichiz and went in asking if they could accommodate our party of 6, and they sat us immediately! Inside is clean and the wait staff was friendly. The waitress gave recommendations when we asked her for them! The bathroom was super clean and modern as well! Food: this place serves tapas type dishes, although it's Asian inspired. They have about 40 different types of dumplings on the menu and by quickly ready some reviews on yelp (thanks!) I read that most people came to ichiz for their infamous French onion soup dumplings... so we ordered those (they were amazing), and the following dumplings as well: buffalo chicken, chicken teriyaki, potato Parmesan, pumpkin, goat cheese and mushroom, and mushroom risotto! They were all phenomenal. The chicken teriyaki was really delicious, the chicken was tasty and the teriyaki was sweet and they sprinkle sesame seeds over the top! The potato Parmesan was so creamy, like a potato soup inside the dumpling! We also ordered bacon and egg fried rice and spicy salmon fried rice... the spicy salmon was sooooo good! It was my cousins birthday so we wanted them to sing, so she asked us to buy a dessert, which was okay... but then she did through in 6 plum wine shots, which was really nice! What a hidden gem! We have unfortunately walked by this place many times and today we decided to go in. Based on pictures of the menu, we were a bit confused, but decided to give it a shot. I am so so glad that we did. The ENTIRE left side of the food menu is composed of different types of dumplings. One more delicious than the next! We just kept ordering until we realized we were way too full to enjoy anything more. My favorites were the French onion soup dumplings, the mushroom risotto dumplings, the spicy pork dumplings, the mushroom and bok choy dumplings, and the poached pear dessert dumplings. The manager courteously gave me the option of choosing indoor or outdoor dining for my group. I chose the latter because the evening weather was clear and beautiful and the impending end of summer would soon not permit this option. The restaurant seated us in a comfortable outdoor table in the rear courtyard.The waitress took orders in a friendly and expeditious manner. She even agreed to do separate checks. Food arrived quickly as the restaurant proved that it had no problems serving a large group.Service was very good here. Not really knowing much about the actual size of the "small plates", I ordered three: Bacon Egg Fried Rice, French Onion Soup Dumplings and Salmon/Tuna Sashimi. I had been craving dumplings for weeks and decided to try Ichiz with my husband after finding it online. So glad we did because the food was outstanding. After a busy week, some friends called and asked us to meet them for some eats and drinks. We were eager to meet them and try something new in the neighborhood. Best thing about Huntington proper-- a never ending source of great restaurants to try. When we got there for our 7:30 reservation, I was afraid we would be eating solo. It only took a few minutes for the rest of the restaurant to fill up. There is an outside eating area that for our next trip will be a must. Cocktails were very good and from the extended list, I'm sure that anyone will find a drink to match their tastes or whims. My Belvedere martini was very good and we rounded out our selections with a Cucumber cooler and cucumber jalapeño martini. We all enjoyed them and ordered seconds. Maybe thirds for some of us. For food, we basically ordered everything. Dumplings of every variety-- I mean every.variety. Highlights were the steamed sea bass and the French onion soup. MR (mad Russian) loved both the mushroom risotto and the shrimp risotto as well. Our friends and the lively conversation made the meal a memorable experience and mostly overshadowed the service that seemed a little disjointed. Most everyone who serviced our table was beyond the pale of friendly and found each of them cordial, attentive and amiable. However, a few dishes we didn't order found their way to our table and we noticed immediately and made sure they found their rightful homes. Drinks on a busy night were slow and although we had an awesome meal, I found I was worrying about the needs of our party more than I should have. The staff member was clearly overwhelmed and said that the wait staff does come in until 6:30.... Why would your wait staff come in a half hour AFTER you're opened? When potential customers walked in asking for a table, the staff member was very aggressive, telling them they up to "here" with tables and basically pushing people out. It was extremely uncomfortable. We tried to get out as soon as possible, however, when wait staff did come, no one came to our table. The food was okay. What a unique little place. I came here on a whim after hearing about their French Onion soup dumplings. The menu in person was much larger then what I had seen online. They must have over 30 homemade dumplings to choose from. We started off with French onion soup dumplings, Enoki & Bacon dumplings and bang bang chicken. The soup dumplings are pretty cool. Much smaller then the usual kind you'd find in queens. They were alittle larger then a quarter each. Similar to shumai, but topped with cheese then baked. When you cut into these little pods of awesomeness, they spew onion soup. Really unique. The enoki ones were good as well. The bang bang chicken was nice but the serving size was very small. Next up we tried the short rib dish in orange glaze. My only complaint with this dish is with the amount of short rib you are served. Its 1 thin slice that after removing the bone pieces/fat equated to a very small portion of food. For a dish that costs around $16, I feel you should get double the amount of meat that was served. We literally took a few bites and it was done. Pork sliders here are awesome. We finished up with a few of these and then moved onto a red bean dumpling dessert with a side of ice cream. Also worth mentioning that the bar here is pretty sweet. They have ALOT. Tons of sake choices, liquor, wine, beer and an excellent cocktail menu. My boyfriend and I used to suggest Ichiz to everyone we met. We loved them for their atmosphere and food, we even rented out the back patio for a birthday party in 2020. However, our view on the restaurant has changed drastically in the last two times we dined there. We had made a reservation for 6:30 and were sat no problem. With in 15 minutes and 3 more parties being sat, the bartender completely lost his cool and wasn't able to handle the pressure of the multiple orders coming in. As someone who has worked in the service industry, I fully understand the stress of a Saturday night rush, but this man was rude to not only the customers but also his coworkers. I watched him lose his cool with a waitress who was clearly training a few times as well as not so quietly mumble negative remarks about customers. His attitude and tense demeanor was too loud to ignore. After dinner I looked on yelp to see if anyone else has had this experience before and people have been making the same complaints for 5 years. I dont know if this bartender, Kevin, is an owner, or manager but his temperament is a determining factor if we return on a regular basis. We want to go back because of how amazing the food is, but I've never been there when he isn't working and we don't want to endure another negative experience when it's such an expensive night out. read more

Had been waiting to try this place out in Huntington! Perfect for a cold windy day or when you need a change in your taste buds. Came here with the family and everyone loved it from meat lovers to vegans. There's a dumpling combo of everything you can imagine! They are served piping, hot and fresh so be careful not to burn your tongue. The French onion soup dumpling is a must and was highly rated. The bang bang shrimp was bang on! (It's fried). HORRENDOUS service. When given our bill we initially left $60 cash tip on $300 tab and when card/receipt was returned, we planned on putting additional tip on bill. My family booked a table for 8 celebrating my mother's birthday. We chose Ichiz because of the outdoor seating on the patio given we have a few unvaccinated children in the group as they are too young. The restaurant had mistakenly given out table to another party that they thought was our reservation and said they could only offer a table inside. We asked if they could move the other table given we booked the table way in advance and they refused. The tables inside are just too tight for my mother's comfort level. We chose to sit outside bc of some nice weather, but be warned there's an entrance/exit out there, so you'll hear that gate crashing closed every 5-10 minutes and people will wander by your table (and stare at your cute date). They should lock that thing. Anyway, onto the eats. They're... OK. As most people mention, the menu is HUGE. Wtf, huge. It's pretty much an Asian diner here with options that border on absurd. 20+ dumplings with just a little variation on the one before... and then ones filled with some crazy outlandish ish. For me, a huge dumpling fan, it was just way too much. At a price of $14 for five dumplings, it's not like you can order half of the menu to see what's good/bad/weird. Went here on Saturday night super excited to try since my sister raves about this place. Walked 3 blocks in the rain and Anticipated having to wait for a table , but to our surprise we were seated right away perfect you'd think. We sat across from the bar near the wait station, the waiter was sweet and training another waitress still not a problem until bartender which seemed annoyed about something , lack of help or the machine getting messed up , he started cursing and making it obviously clear he was pissed off . This made us very uncomfortable since we were sitting so close to the bar , I definitely don't mind spending money on good food which it definitely was. I asked if he was the owner and told no. I get people have bad days but after reading a few reviews on this place this is how he acts I'd love to return for the food But only if he's not there Maybe that's why we were able to get seated so quickly he scares off the patrons ! read more
