1 pm on a Sunday-Called in 5 of the exact same thing, hibachi steak & chicken, rice, no vegetables, salads. Told would be ready in 30 minutes. Arrived at 1:30 pm and still waited until 2 pm finally. Vegetables were in every plate, I asked if they could just give me extra rice to make up for the error, and was told they would have to take the plates back to remove the vegetables. Imagine how much more time I would have waited, not to mention, the vegetables were already mixed with everything else in the plates. 2 customers came in behind me and were allowed to sub soda in the place of the salad that is included in the price, and were not upcharged. How I start? Well went to give it a try. The place was not busy at all actually a family of 4 went in at the same time as me. Requested the 3 roll special. It took about 20 minutes to bring the side of rice that comes with it. Remember I'm only one person and it another hour to get my rolls People went in and out way before me. Don't taken wrong the lady taking care of media her best but management should do a better job!! The food was good after all. Believe I thought about living it thereafter waiting for so long. But did not want to make my waitress worst Her service could not be better due to the sushi guy not keeping up with orders. So, this exceeded our expectations. We walked in, and saw that there are some tatami rooms, there are paper lanterns hanging from the drop ceiling, and there's a sushi bar. There's a weird, dark event room which we walked by, and where the servers seem to congregate between services. If there were specials on the boards, we got hustled by them by the host, so we missed them. Oddly, we seemed to be the only people that got a paper menu. Everyone else around us got asked to scan the QR code taped at the end of each table. The menu is full of Japanese-y looking items, sushi and the like. I went "Bento Box," which included a bag salad with "sesame ginger" dressing, tempura prawns, and "hibachi chicken." The Mrs. got the "Joy Roll," based on our server's recommendation. And then we waited. The salad came out. I ate. We then waited some more. We'd been told the service here was slow, the kitchen slower. We were curious to see how bad it might actually be. While we waited, we received a big (really big) squeeze bottle of "the white sauce" for the table because "most people like this on their hibachi." The hibachi chicken (different from the teriyaki chicken because "it doesn't have teriyaki sauce") seems to have been cooked in this white sauce. It was okay. The tempura was crunchy on the outside, not bad. The "spicy tuna" roll was spicy and orange. I'm not sure it was tuna, maybe salmon. But, it wasn't bad, all in all. I'm not sure that the wasabi was real, as the greenness of it just didn't look right. The Joy Roll was fine. Nothing transformative, but, and as I find tempura-fried sushi rolls as some sort of conspiracy to try to get Southerners to eat "sushi," it was still alright. The service wasn't as bad as others have made it out to be here or on the Goog. Our server was attentive, kept our glasses filled, and kept assuring us that the food was going to hit the table, really it was. TLDR; this is Japanese style food in Vance County, NC. I purchased the to go bento box and overall is was terrible. The spicy tuna rolls weren't fresh it had a gummy texture. The fried rice was scorched and hard, hibachi chicken was flavorless. we walked in, got seated, me and one of my kids went to the bathroom it was filthy, stinky, crust-so grosse. back to the table and there was so much grime on it u could write on it with your finger the silverware they put out for us was cover with crusty prices and just filthy. the floor, the chairs, everything was filthy and greasy/grimy. we didn't even order we just left. never again Ichibar #RIP. someone honestly needs to call a health inspector on them. no way they are passing any kind of standards that would be considered safe for people to consume food from. read more

A year ago my review would have been better but the past few times I've gotten food I've been very disappointed. One time I ordered delivery, but after an hour hadn't received my food because they didn't have a driver. The person seemed to indicate it would be a huge problem to just give me a refund so he brought over the order himself. I was thankful for this, as I was starving, but then when it got there it was very much not the right order. I've gone in for take-out a couple times and after seeing only one staff member wearing a mask (on her chin) I will not continue to frequent a restaurant that allows such a lack of responsibility. Unfortunately at this moment it seems to rule out many of our local restaurants. Maybe this helps them keep their "anti-masker" customers, but it definitely keeps me out. read more

We started going to a Ichibar 5 years ago. We used to Love sitting at the bar and letting the sushi chef make special selections for us. The fish was fresh and great quality and so the sashimi was great. The sushi quality has really seemed to go downhill lately. We've been twice in the past several months and weren't really happy with the sashimi. The fish did not taste sushi grade. I would not recommend going here and expecting to get high end cuts of fish. This place is better for rolls mixed with other ingredients. The seaweed salad is good. The staff is friendly. read more

Five stars. I must say, coming all the way over from Hawaii, to Henderson, NC and finding a Japanese restaurant was, well, shocking and quite a nice surprise. The food here is really great and coming from really good Japanese food in Hawaii, Ichibar really could compete with some of the best out west. Ordered by phone for birthday dinner on Sunday afternoon. Ordered 2 spring roll appetizers & Yakitori and Veg. & Tofu Teriyaki (and extra side of rice). Arrived 10 minutes after being told it would be ready and waited an additional 10-15 minutes to get order. After getting home, the Yakitori was something I didn't recognize., thin square chicken pieces on a stick with small amount of glaze. Rolls were fine. The Veg-Tofu Teriyaki was not its usual self. The tofu squares were much smaller and had no sauce (was on side). No vegetables at all and the hot tofu was placed on top of the ginger salad that had no ginger dressing. I've had all of this in the past with no problems, but this was awful, especially for $35. I shouldn't have tipped. read more

So much better than I expected! When I called to place an order they told me there would be a 30 minute wait and it was ready right on time. We ordered 3 hibachi dishes, each one the person asked if there were any vegetables that needed to be left off. We love veggies so that was a no, but I thought was really considerate for people who might have food allergies. They had separators between the cashier and the patron and even an area to the side to check your order before leaving. read more

I picked up chicken hibachi tonight and was disappointed. The chicken sauce had a good flavor, but the chicken was so dry. The rice and white sauce were okay. The veggies were soggy and not good. I have been here 3 times, first time i really enjoyed my meal i ordered the kanikaki and a kid's chicken hibachi. As soon as they picked up the phone to answer i heard someone arguing in the background...ok. no one said anything to me for three minutes then heard a voice say "give me one second i'll be back with you shortly" they came back about 4 minutes later and i casually placed my order. Second time i ordered for the family 3 kids chicken hibachi plates, it was a little less flavorful and a little dry than the first time. Yesterday i ordered a shrimp tempura with a kids Shrimp hibachi (trying something new). i asked the worker that i was ordering with how many pieces of sushi came in the different rolls and it was a 8 option and a 6 option i chose the roll with 8. the man on the phone was rude cutting across my sentence as i was spelling my name for the order.. i enter the restaurant starving walked out with high hopes and a busy night. I get to my destination and there's no white sauce, DISAPPOINTED! no one eats hibachi without white sauce so my plate was ruined i opened my sushi and the whole roll looked torn apart and i counted and there was only 6 when i paid for 8. I called let them know and ate my sushi theres no saving that hibachi. i finished my 6 piece shrimp rice and tasted the hibachi first bite i had to throw it away. the 4 little pieces of shrimp were dry and hard and the rice was under cooked half of the plate was full of vegetables and THERES NO WHITE SAUCE. Ichibar had their chance if i need a snack i'd go back for a roll of sushi but never their hibachi thank you! read more

We've gone here so many times, I couldn't begin to count. I don't usually have Hibachi or have I even ventured far into the menu. However, I have tasted just about every sushi roll on their menu. Their sushi has always been very good and quite affordable. Their sashimi/nigiri is a little expensive, but is comparable to other establishments. My wife often gets the seaweed salad and occasionally orders hibachi of random assortments and has never been disappointed. Once I made an odd request for extra roe on my sushi rolls and the waiter brought me back a soy sauce saucer full of roe, or "Sushi's Sprinkles" All in all, my wife and I love Ichibar's Sushi more than our wallets can handle. Ichibar is my FAVORITE restaurant in Henderson, NC. This isn't a traditional Japanese steakhouse, and they don't cook the food in front of you. All for the best, as that would get old quickly. I eat here on a weekly basis. The portions are reasonably sized, and cost around $12 a plate. I usually get the hibachi steak. They have sushi, which I haven't tried. However, I haven't heard many complaints. They offer takeout. Most lunch specials are around $7 and include soup. A great deal. read more

I had the ginger dressing and the shrimp tempura rolls with added cream cheese. The rolls were made fresh and the sauces were amazing. Their Spicy Mayo and Eel sauce is great. The ONLY thing I don't like is the water...so there you go! I'll buy a bottle the next time. Colin was our waiter both times and he is ON POINT! Fast and helpful! We arrived a little after 9pm, the servers were rushing us the joke time, one young lady was unsure of the alcohol they sold. The portions were generous, but the food left something to be desired.
